I've been bumping around the startup world for a while, and most startups I've seen seem to have (amongst other things) two things in common:
A lack of money
An inability to, reliably, hire good quality developers
This means that, for startups, the ideal hire is someone who is free - where they can wait until they've both raised money and found out that the hire is worth his price tag.
When (if ever) is this a win win situation? For you, as a programmer or software developer, when would this make sense?
<b>Developer.com: </b>"The open source R language has been in use by statisticians to do data analysis, predictive modeling and visualization for over a decade. This week, R is set to undergo a revolution of sorts with a revamped commercial effort."
When Apple unveiled its iCloud service at its Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco last week some observers called the huge project game-changing. Few noted the challenges inherent in managing an online storage center of this magnitude. Now it looks like Apple has turned to Microsoft and Amazon for help....

We most often hear web developers as well as website design development companies asking in forums and developer boards about use of ASP, PHP & other scripting language and its possible negative effects on search engine optimization and effective SEO strategies for the website. There are many server side based scripting languages such as ASP, PHP, Cold Fusion, Python, and Pearl; among which PHP & ASP are more common.
<b>Network World: </b>"DJ Walker-Morgan over on the Open H has a post up saying that the open source developer community should thank Apple for raising the competitive bar and in using some open source technology in its products. I say rubbish!"
Assuming no experience with version control systems, just local to live web development. I've been dropped in on a few legacy website projects, and want an easier and more robust way to be able to quickly push and revert changes en masse. I'm currently the only developer on these projects, but more may be added in the future and I think it would be beneficial to set up a system that others can use.

When I launch the successful iOS game "Clash of Clans", right in the beginning I get the following message in an iOS info pop-up:
"Clash of Clans is free to play, but you can speed up your progress with in-app purchases. If desired, purchases can be disabled in the general settings of your device."
What's the reason the developer shows this message right in the beginning? Is there any legal obligation to do so?

People that understand client-side prediction and client-side interpolation, I have a question:
When I play the game Team Fortress 2, and type cl_predict 1 into the developer's console, it enables client-side prediction. The also says "6 predictable entities reinitialized". It says this regardless of how many players are on the server, which makes sense, because other players are not predictable entities.
I thought client-side prediction was only for the movement of the player. Are there other entities that the client can provide prediction for?
Deanna Dicken examines an SQL Server Profiler event to determine object access...who is using the object, when, and how. This gives the SQL developer or database administrator much needed information for impact analysis prior to a change or the decommissioning of a SQL Server object.
When one considers the amount of time and effort that Unit Testing consumes for the Database Developer, is surprising how few good SQL Server Test frameworks are around. tSQLt , which is open source and free to use, is one of the frameworks that provide a simple way to populate a table with test data as part of the unit test, and check the results with what should be expected. Sebastian and Dennis, who created tSQLt, explain.

12 must-have SQL Server toolsThe award-winning SQL Developer Bundle contains 12 tools for faster, simpler SQL Server development. Download a free trial.
Ops and Development people have plenty of ideas for improving the whole software delivery process, but the task of developing, maturing and communicating these ideas isn't often in their job-description. Others are only too keen to do so, but on their own terms. So, let's get clarity. What is the central DevOps idea really?

I read this question, but I'm more confused yet.
In developer.ubuntu.com/showdown I read: "(2) run out of /opt" (I understand "run out" is not in /opt :O Am I wrong?)
In https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AppReviewBoard/Review/Guidelines#Packaging I read: "our package should install most files in /opt/extras.ubuntu.com/"
It's not clear for me if the app must be in the /opt or out /opt :$
Then, can I use the /usr? Will be the app rejected if it's on /usr?
Thanks! :)

JavaFX Script blends declarative programming concepts with object orientation. This provides a highly productive, yet flexible and robust, foundation for applications. However, with this flexibility comes responsibility from the developer.
