I'm a .NET developer learning Java EE. These two concepts seem to serve the same exact purposes in either system.
So which framework gets credit for inventing them?
I'm fairly new to programming and from learning I have seen different ways of formatting code, comments, etc; and have been recommended on different techniques.
I mostly program in C#, C++, and Java so I want to know what is the the best way to layout code so that if other people where to go through it, they would be impressed by how simple and easy to understand it is.
I would like to know the same thing for commenting as well.
Hi,
Is adding / removing HttpModules and HttpHandlers at runtime from a website a good idea ?
I am looking at ways to make my website as dynamic as possible without uploading changed content all over again. Something like config files.
Rule engines exist, but learning them seems like a pain. I might be wrong in my perspective. Please suggest possible ways to change logic in the code at runtime.
How can I start to use SQL with Visual Studio. I use it just for SQL learning .
I don't want to install a big pack of SQL server 2005 :)

A friend of mine, who studies game development at an university, is currently learning programming in OpenCL. What would be a simple project that teaches the most important aspects of OpenCL and can be finished within about 50 - 100 hours?
I am programming in Ruby and have wanted to learn about matrices but I can't find any resources for actually learning about them. Are there any good tutorials on matrices and programming? It would be nice if it would be in ruby but other languages are fine too.
Hi,
I have started learning Ruby recently and I was trying out the following piece of code.
a=[1,2]
b='slam dunk'
a.each { |b| c=a*b; puts c;}
I am getting the following output. I have no clue why. I expected an error or something to be thrown. Can someone explain me why this happens?

I'm learning CodeIgniter and I come from Microsoft Visual Studio so I'm used to the auto complete feature. I've been using notepad++ so far but I wonder if anyone knows an editor that works better with CodeIgniter.
I would love to see features like:
Right-click - Add new model
Right-click - Add new view
Autocomplete with CodeIgniter helpers and libraries
From an asp.net perspective (C#)

Where do filesystems like Reiser, NFS, etc store the file tables? We're looking at writing our own filesystem, and wondering if we should use a single file to hold it all using btree's or use something out there.
Any advice? This is more a learning exercise than anything.
I am a .NET webdev using ASP.NET, C# etc... I "learned" javascript in college 5+ years ago and can do basic jobs with it. But I wonder if it is useful to become proficient in it.
Why should I learn Javascript?
Is it more advantageous then learning JQuery or a different library?
Hello,
i'm building my first RIA in flex, and did a little of research to find a radar chart component free, but all i found is not free (licence 500$).

Hi there,
I am writing some learning tests (i.e. what's the answer for...; choose correct options...). Now my question is, how should I store them. SQL db seems quite an overkill, but I really don't know what would be the best choice if I wanted to select random subset of questions etc. Perhaps some simple xml files?
Thanks for advice.
I have a set of points in 3d space and I want to be able to categorize the shape that best fits them - cube, sphere, cylinder, planar (flat) etc.
I've looked at supervised/machine learning but since I need first generate a large training data set that's not really suitable.
My dream solution would be a java library with a wonderful magical function something like :
public enum ShapeType {
CUBE,
SPHERE,
CYLINDER,
PLANAR
}
public ShapeType CategorizeShapeFromPoints( 3DPoint[] points )
However, any and all help will be appreciated. Thanks
I recently began learning C++ in order to reach people w/o .net. I need to run my program in the background(without any visual indication to the user so no window or cmd). I know there a various methods to do this In C#, but I don't know how to do this in C++ (specifically Dev-C++). Any help is greatly appreciated.
Hi,
I am learning some embedded programming. I am using Linux as my platform and I want to create a daemon program that will check if a particular device(magstrife, keypad, etc) is active. Like for example, my daemon program is running in the background, then when I make a keypress event, my deamon app will do something.
What implementation should I do to create this app? And how can I check the event of the devices?
Thanks.
I've been playing around with C# console applications for about a year and I want to move on to creating GUI applications. I have never done any GUI development besides basic Java applications, but I want to continue using C#. Should I start learning Windows Forms or jump straight to WPF? Is there a huge difference? Does WPF build on top of Windows Forms or are they totally different?
In my search for a good, freely available resource that will teach me C++ I stumbled on http://www.learncpp.com/.
My question is for intermediate to experienced C++ programmers...
Does this site seem to be a good resource for a beginner to learn C++ from?
I've gone through the first few section of the site, and I feel like I am starting to grasp the language, but being a beginner in C++ I really could be learning things all wrong and have no idea.
Hi,
I'm a newbie in applescript. I was trying to learn it from various sources, such as Doug's site, macscripter and this forum
Just for learning purposes, I was trying to print on the screen all the tracks names using this code:
tell application "iTunes"
set myTracks to (tracks of library playlist 1)
repeat with aTrack in myTracks
get name of aTrack
end repeat
end tell
But it only prints one track name, probably the last one...
So, how is the best way to iterate over a list?
TIA,
Bob
I'm learning JavaScript, and I can't understand why you'd make methods that aren't 'privileged,' that is, that aren't defined in the constructor but rather the class' prototype.
I understand the idea of encapsulation and all, but you never encapsulate parts of a class from the rest of it in most of the OO world.
Let's not go so far as to say that I'm paranoid, but I've been spending hour after hour learning how to prevent SQL injections (and XSS for what it's worth).
What I'm wondering is that a SQL injection doesn't seem like it would do permanent harm to my database if I've made daily backups. Doesn't importing yesterday's copy of my tables just restore them and then I can be on my merry way?
I am JEE developer, and I want to get skills on concurrency development.
Could you provide me some assignments, ideas, or other - just for learning and training concurrency programming?
Thanks!
I've recently been learning perl and am wondering what frameworks are available for creating a web app. I'm mostly concerned about security, so if there are any security-specific web frameworks you'd recommend, I'd be more interested in those.
