  • Reference inherited class's <T>ype in a derived class

    - by DRapp
    I don't know if its possible or not, but here's what I need. I'm toying around with something and want to know if its possible since you can't create your own data type based on a sealed type such as int, Int32, Int64, etc. I want to create a top-level class that is defined of a given type with some common stuff. Then, derive this into two subclasses, but in this case, each class is based on either and int or Int64 type. From THAT instance, create an instance of either one and know its yped basis for parameter referenc / return settings. So when I need to create an instance of the "ThisClass", I don't have to know its type basis of either int or Int64, yet IT will know the type and be able to allow methods/functions to be called with the typed... This way, If I want to change my ThisClass definition from SubLevel1 to SubLevel2, I don't have to dance around all different data type definitions. Hope this makes sense.. public class TopLevel<T> { ... } pubic class SubLevel1 : TopLevel<int> { ... } public class SubLevel2 : TopLevel<Int64> { ... } public class ThisClass : SubLevel1 { ... public <based on the Int data type from SubLevel1> SomeFunc() { return <the Int value computed>; } }

  • [C#] Improving method to read signed 8-bit integers from hexadecimal.

    - by JYelton
    Scenario: I have a string of hexadecimal characters which encode 8-bit signed integers. Each two characters represent a byte which employ the leftmost (MSB) bit as the sign (rather than two's complement). I am converting these to signed ints within a loop and wondered if there's a better way to do it. There are too many conversions and I am sure there's a more efficient method that I am missing. Current Code: string strData = "FFC000407F"; // example input data, encodes: -127, -64, 0, 64, 127 int v; for (int x = 0; x < strData.Length/2; x++) { v = HexToInt(strData.Substring(x * 2, 2)); Console.WriteLine(v); // do stuff with v } private int HexToInt(string _hexData) { string strBinary = Convert.ToString(Convert.ToInt32(_hexData, 16), 2).PadLeft(_hexData.Length * 4, '0'); int i = Convert.ToInt32(strBinary.Substring(1, 7), 2); i = (strBinary.Substring(0, 1) == "0" ? i : -i); return i; } Question: Is there a more streamlined and direct approach to reading two hex characters and converting them to an int when they represent a signed int (-127 to 127) using the leftmost bit as the sign?

  • c# Most efficient way to combine two objects

    - by Dested
    I have two objects that can be represented as an int, float, bool, or string. I need to perform an addition on these two objects with the results being the same thing c# would produce as a result. For instance 1+"Foo" would equal the string "1Foo", 2+2.5 would equal the float 5.5, and 3+3 would equal the int 6 . Currently I am using the code below but it seems like incredible overkill. Can anyone simplify or point me to some way to do this efficiently? private object Combine(object o, object o1) { float left = 0; float right = 0; bool isInt = false; string l = null; string r = null; if (o is int) { left = (int)o; isInt = true; } else if (o is float) { left = (float)o; } else if (o is bool) { l = o.ToString(); } else { l = (string)o; } if (o1 is int) { right = (int)o1; } else if (o is float) { right = (float)o1; isInt = false; } else if (o1 is bool) { r = o1.ToString(); isInt = false; } else { r = (string)o1; isInt = false; } object rr; if (l == null) { if (r == null) { rr = left + right; } else { rr = left + r; } } else { if (r == null) { rr = l + right; } else { rr = l + r; } } if (isInt) { return Convert.ToInt32(rr); } return rr; }

  • How to change one Button background in a gridview? -- Android

    - by Tstop Studios
    I have a GridView with 16 ImageView buttons. My program makes a random number and when the user clicks a button in the gridview, i want it to take the random number (0-15) and set the background of the tile with the same position as the random number (0-15) to a different image. How can I just change one of the buttons background? Here's my code so far: public class ButtonHider extends Activity { Random random = new Random(); int pos; @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.button_hider); pos = random.nextInt(15); GridView gridview = (GridView) findViewById(R.id.gvBH); gridview.setAdapter(new ImageAdapter(this)); gridview.setOnItemClickListener(new OnItemClickListener() { public void onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View v, int position, long id) { pos = random.nextInt(16); if (position == pos) { Toast.makeText(ButtonHider.this, "Found Me!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } else { Toast.makeText(ButtonHider.this, "Try Again!!", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } } }); } public class ImageAdapter extends BaseAdapter { private Context mContext; public ImageAdapter(Context c) { mContext = c; } public int getCount() { return 16; } public Object getItem(int position) { return null; } public long getItemId(int position) { return 0; } // create a new ImageView for each item referenced by the Adapter public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { ImageView imageView; if (convertView == null) { // if it's not recycled, initialize some // attributes imageView = new ImageView(mContext); imageView.setLayoutParams(new GridView.LayoutParams(100, 100)); imageView.setScaleType(ImageView.ScaleType.CENTER_CROP); imageView.setPadding(15, 15, 15, 15); } else { imageView = (ImageView) convertView; } imageView.setImageResource(R.drawable.bh_b); return imageView; } } }

  • Best Practice: QT4 QList<Mything*>... on Heap, or QList<Mything> using reference?

    - by Mike Crowe
    Hi Folks, Learning C++, so be gentle :)... I have been designing my application primarily using heap variables (coming from C), so I've designed structures like this: QList<Criteria*> _Criteria; // ... Criteria *c = new Criteria(....); _Criteria.append(c); All through my program, I'm passing pointers to specific Criteria, or often the list. So, I have a function declared like this: QList<Criteria*> Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria * Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) which inserts a Criteria into a list, and returns the list so my GUI can display it. I'm wondering if I should have used references, somehow. Since I'm always wanting that exact Criteria back, should I have done: QList<Criteria> _Criteria; // .... Criteria c(....); _Criteria.append(c); ... QList<Criteria>& Decision::addCriteria(int row,QString cname,QString ctype); Criteria& Decision::getCriteria(int row,int col) (not sure if the latter line is syntactically correct yet, but you get the drift). All these items are specific, quasi-global items that are the core of my program. So, the question is this: I can certainly allocate/free all my memory w/o an issue in the method I'm using now, but is there are more C++ way? Would references have been a better choice (it's not too late to change on my side). TIA Mike

  • Sending 2 dim array using scatter

    - by MPI_Beginner
    I am a beginner in MPI, and i am using C Language, and Simulator for Processors (MPICH2), i wrote the following code to send a 2D array to make 2 processors take a line from it but it produces error when running MPICH2, the code is: int main ( int argc , char *argv[] ) { int rank; int commsize; MPI_Init(&argc, &argv); MPI_Comm_size(MPI_COMM_WORLD,&commsize); MPI_Comm_rank(MPI_COMM_WORLD,&rank); char** name=malloc(2*sizeof(char*)); int i; for(i=0;i<2;i++){ name[i]=malloc(15*sizeof(char)); } name[0]="name"; name[1]="age"; if(rank==0){ char** mArray=malloc(2*sizeof(char*)); MPI_Scatter(&name,1,MPI_CHAR,&mArray,1,MPI_CHAR,0,MPI_COMM_WORLD);//send } else{ char** mArray=malloc(2*sizeof(char*)); int k; for(k=0;k<2;k++){ mArray[k]=malloc(15*sizeof(char)); } MPI_Scatter(&mArray,1,MPI_CHAR,&mArray,1,MPI_CHAR,0,MPI_COMM_WORLD);//receive printf("line is %s \n",mArray[rank-1]); } MPI_Finalize(); }

  • In Perl, is a while loop generally faster than a for loop?

    - by Mike
    I've done a small experiment as will be shown below and it looks like that a while loop is faster than a for loop in Perl. But since the experiment was rather crude, and the subject might be a lot more complicated than it seems, I'd like to hear what you have to say about this. Thanks as always for any comments/suggestions :) In the following two small scripts, I've tried while and for loops separately to calcaulte the factorial of 100,000. The one that has the while loop took 57 minutes 17 seconds to finish while the for loop equivalent took 1 hour 7 minutes 54 seconds. Script that has while loop: use strict; use warnings; use bigint; my $now = time; my $n =shift; my $s=1; while(1){ $s *=$n; $n--; last if $n==2; } print $s*$n; $now = time - $now; printf("\n\nTotal running time: %02d:%02d:%02d\n\n", int($now / 3600), int(($now % 3600) / 60), int($now % 60)); Script that has for loop: use strict; use warnings; use bigint; my $now = time; my $n =shift; my $s=1; for (my $i=2; $i<=$n;$i++) { $s = $s*$i; } print $s; $now = time - $now; printf("\n\nTotal running time: %02d:%02d:%02d\n\n", int($now / 3600), int(($now % 3600) / 60), int($now % 60));

  • Unknown error in the memory in C

    - by Sergey Gavruk
    I have a 2D dynamic array. I enter a line of 0's after line which has a biggest number: void InsertZero(int **a, int pos){ int i, j; a = (int**)realloc(a, n * sizeof(*a)); a[n-1] = (int*)calloc(n, sizeof(**a)); d = 0; for(i = n-1; i > pos; i--){ for(j = 0; j < n; j++){ a[i][j] = a[i-1][j]; printf("%d ", a[i][j]); } } for(i = 0; i < n; i++){ a[pos][i] = 0; } } If i make a size of array 3, 5, 7, 9, ... it works correctly. But if a number of lines is 2, 4, 6, ... , it is an access violation error, when i try to print my array: void Print(void){ int i, j; for(i = 0; i < (n-d); i++){ for(j = 0; j < n; j++){ printf("%d\t", arr[i][j]); } printf("\n"); } } code: http://codepad.org/JcUis6W4

  • Printing Arrays from Structs

    - by Carlll
    I've been stumped for a few hours on an exercise where I must use functions to build up an array inside a struct and print it. In my current program, it compiles but crashes upon running. #define LIM 10 typedef char letters[LIM]; typedef struct { int counter; letters words[LIM]; } foo; int main(int argc, char **argv){ foo apara; structtest(apara, LIM); print_struct(apara); } int structtest(foo *p, int limit){ p->counter = 0; int i =0; for(i; i< limit ;i++){ strcpy(p->words[p->counter], "x"); //only filling arrays with 'x' as an example p->counter ++; } return; I do believe it's due to my incorrect usage/combination of pointers. I've tried adjusting them, but either an 'incompatible types' error is produced, or the array is seemingly blank } void print_struct(foo p){ printf(p.words); } I haven't made it successfully up to the print_struct stage, but I'm unsure whether p.words is the correct item to be calling. In the output, I would expect the function to return an array of x's. I apologize in advance if I've made some sort of grievous "I should already know this" C mistake. Thanks for your help.

  • Stretch video to full screen in a SurfaceView extension

    - by SS
    I have created a widget that is an extension of SurfaceView (very similar to [VideoView][1]) and I am working on a feature to stretch the video fully across the device screen when certain action is taken. I've looked at onMeasure function of VideoView and re-wrote it this way: @Override protected void onMeasure(int widthMeasureSpec, int heightMeasureSpec) { if (mStretchVideo) { super.onMeasure(widthMeasureSpec, heightMeasureSpec); } else { int width = getDefaultSize(mVideoWidth, widthMeasureSpec); int height = getDefaultSize(mVideoHeight, heightMeasureSpec); if (mVideoWidth > 0 && mVideoHeight > 0) { if (mVideoWidth * height > width * mVideoHeight) { height = width * mVideoHeight / mVideoWidth; } else if (mVideoWidth * height < width * mVideoHeight) { width = height * mVideoWidth / mVideoHeight; } } setMeasuredDimension(width, height); } } This seems to work fine if I completely stop the video and start playing again. Now I am trying to force the refresh of this SurfaceView after setting the stretch flag so that the video gets stretched while it is playing, but I couldn't figure out how to force a refresh on SurfaceView. I tried android.view.View.invalidate(), android.view.View.refreshDrawableState() and calling android.view.View.measure(int, int) directly with different combinations but did not get any success. Any ideas?

  • What do these C operators mean?

    I'm reading the book "Programming Challenges: The Programming Contest Training Manual" and are implementing a problem where I do not understand the use of operators c1 and the comparison if (n&1), someone could help me to know they mean? this is the example code #include <stdio.h> #define MAX_N 300 #define MAX_D 150 long cache[MAX_N/2][2]; void make_cache(int n,int d,int mode) { long tmp[MAX_D]; int i,count; for(i=0;i<MAX_D;i++) tmp[i]=0; tmp[0]=1;count=0; while(count<=n) { count++; for(i=(count&1);i<=d;i+=2) { if(i) tmp[i] = tmp[i-1] + tmp[i+1]; else if(!mode) tmp[0]=tmp[1]; else tmp[0]=0; } if((count&1)==(d&1)) cache[count>>1][mode]=tmp[d]; } } int main() { int n,d,i; long sum; while(1) { scanf("%d %d",&n,&d); if(n&1) sum=0; else if(d==1) sum=1; else if(n<(d<<1)) sum=0; else if(n==(d<<1)) sum=1; else { make_cache(n,d,0); make_cache(n,d,1); sum=0; for(i=0;i<=(n>>1);i++) sum+=cache[i][0]*cache[(n>>1)-i][1]; } printf("%ld\n",sum); } return 0; }

  • Using TaskDialogIndirect in C#

    - by Dennis Delimarsky
    I've been working for a while with the regular Windows Vista/7 TaskDialog for a while, and I wanted to add some additional functionality (like custom buttons and a footer), so I need to use TaskDialogIndirect. Following the MSDN documentation for TaskDialogIndirect, I got this signature: [DllImport("comctl32.dll",CharSet = CharSet.Unicode,EntryPoint="TaskDialogIndirect")] static extern int TaskDialogIndirect (TASKDIALOGCONFIG pTaskConfig, out int pnButton, out int pnRadioButton, out bool pfVerificationFlagChecked); The TASKDIALOGCONFIG class is shown below: public class TASKDIALOGCONFIG { public UInt16 cbSize; public IntPtr hwndParent; public IntPtr hInstance; public String dwFlags; public String dwCommonButtons; public IntPtr hMainIcon; public String pszMainIcon; public String pszMainInstruction; public String pszContent; public UInt16 cButtons; public TASKDIALOG_BUTTON pButtons; public int nDefaultButton; public UInt16 cRadioButtons; public TASKDIALOG_BUTTON pRadioButtons; public int nDefaultRadioButton; public String pszVerificationText; public String pszExpandedInformation; public String pszExpandedControlText; public String pszCollapsedControlText; public IntPtr hFooterIcon; public IntPtr pszFooterText; public String pszFooter; // pfCallback; // lpCallbackData; public UInt16 cxWidth; } The TASKDIALOG_BUTTON implementation: public class TASKDIALOG_BUTTON { public int nButtonID; public String pszButtonText; } I am not entirely sure if I am on the right track here. Did anyone use TaskDialogIndirect from managed code directly through WinAPI (without VistaBridge or Windows API Code Pack)? I am curious about the possible implementations, as well as the callback declarations (I am not entirely sure how to implement TaskDialogCallbackProc). PS: I am looking for a direct WinAPI implementation, not one through a wrapper.

  • LINQ Query please help C#.Net.

    - by Paul Matthews
    I'm very new to LINQ and struggling to find the answers. I have a simple SQL query. Select ID, COUNT(ID) as Selections, OptionName, SUM(Units) as Units FROM tbl_Results GROUP BY ID, OptionName. The results I got were: '1' '4' 'Approved' '40' '2' '1' 'Rejected' '19' '3' '2' 'Not Decided' '12' Due to having to encrypt all my data in the database I'm unable to do sums. Therefore I have now brought back the data and decrypt it in the application layer. Results would be: '1' 'Approved' '10' '3' 'Not Deceided' '6' '2' 'Rejected' '19' '1' 'Approved' '15' '1' 'Approved' '5' '3' 'Not Deceided' '6' '1' 'Approved' '10' using a simple class I have called back the above results, and put them in a list class. public class results { public int ID {get;set;} public string OptionName {get;set;} public int Unit {get;set;} } I almost have the LINQ query to bring back the results like the SQL query at the top var q = from r in Results group p.Unit by p.ID int g select new {ID = g.Key, Selections = g.Count(), Units = g.Sum()}; How do I ensure my LINQ query also give me the Option Name? Also if I created a class called Statistics to hold my results how would I modify the LINQ query to give me list result set? public class results { public int ID {get;set;} public int NumberOfSelections { get; set; } public string OptionName {get;set;} public int UnitTotal {get;set;} }

    I have the following casting problem when my data structure sSpecificData contains a field of type tm: typedef struct { unsigned char data[10000]; } sDataBuffer; typedef struct { int m_Id; sDataBuffer m_Data; } sData; typedef struct { int m_value1; int m_value2; tm m_Date; } sSpecificData; const int SPECIFIC_SVC_DATA_SIZE = sizeof(sSpecificData); typedef struct { int m_Id; sSpecificData m_Data; } sMyData; int main(void) { sData svc; sMyData* ptr1 = (sMyData*) &svc; sSpecificData* ptr2; ptr2 = (sSpecificData*) &svc.m_Data; ptr1->m_Data.m_value1 = 90; ptr1->m_Data.m_value2 = 80; cout << ptr1->m_Data.m_value1 << endl; cout << ptr1->m_Data.m_value2 << endl; cout << ptr2->m_value1 << endl; cout << ptr2->m_value2 << endl; return 0; } Without the field "tm m_Date;" as part of the sSpecificData, the output is correct: 90 80 90 80 With the field "tm m_Date;" as part of the sSpecificData, the output is wrong: 90 80 0 <-- ! 90 <-- ! Is there any idea why my example doesn't work when there is field of type tm as part of the sSpecificData? Thanks!

  • Optimize CUDA with Thrust in a loop

    - by macs
    Given the following piece of code, generating a kind of code dictionary with CUDA using thrust (C++ template library for CUDA): thrust::device_vector<float> dCodes(codes->begin(), codes->end()); thrust::device_vector<int> dCounts(counts->begin(), counts->end()); thrust::device_vector<int> newCounts(counts->size()); for (int i = 0; i < dCodes.size(); i++) { float code = dCodes[i]; int count = thrust::count(dCodes.begin(), dCodes.end(), code); newCounts[i] = dCounts[i] + count; //Had we already a count in one of the last runs? if (dCounts[i] > 0) { newCounts[i]--; } //Remove thrust::detail::normal_iterator<thrust::device_ptr<float> > newEnd = thrust::remove(dCodes.begin()+i+1, dCodes.end(), code); int dist = thrust::distance(dCodes.begin(), newEnd); dCodes.resize(dist); newCounts.resize(dist); } codes->resize(dCodes.size()); counts->resize(newCounts.size()); thrust::copy(dCodes.begin(), dCodes.end(), codes->begin()); thrust::copy(newCounts.begin(), newCounts.end(), counts->begin()); The problem is, that i've noticed multiple copies of 4 bytes, by using CUDA visual profiler. IMO this is generated by The loop counter i float code, int count and dist Every access to i and the variables noted above This seems to slow down everything (sequential copying of 4 bytes is no fun...). So, how i'm telling thrust, that these variables shall be handled on the device? Or are they already? Using thrust::device_ptr seems not sufficient for me, because i'm not sure whether the for loop around runs on host or on device (which could also be another reason for the slowliness).

  • Binding ListBox ItemCount to IvalueConverter

    - by Ben
    Hi All, I am fairly new to WPF so forgive me if I am missing something obvious. I'm having a problem where I have a collection of AggregatedLabels and I am trying to bind the ItemCount of each AggregatedLabel to the FontSize in my DataTemplate so that if the ItemCount of an AggregatedLabel is large then a larger fontSize will be displayed in my listBox etc. The part that I am struggling with is the binding to the ValueConverter. Can anyone assist? Many thanks! XAML Snippet <DataTemplate x:Key="TagsTemplate"> <WrapPanel> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Name, Mode=Default}" TextWrapping="Wrap" FontSize="{Binding ItemCount, Converter={StaticResource CountToFontSizeConverter}, Mode=Default}" Foreground="#FF0D0AF7"/> </WrapPanel> </DataTemplate> <ListBox x:Name="tagsList" ItemsSource="{Binding AggregatedLabels, Mode=Default}" ItemTemplate="{StaticResource TagsTemplate}" Style="{StaticResource tagsStyle}" Margin="200,10,16.171,11.88" /> AggregatedLabel Collection using (DB2DataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader()) { while (dr.Read()) { AggregatedLabelModel aggLabel = new AggregatedLabelModel(); aggLabel.ID = Convert.ToInt32(dr["LABEL_ID"]); aggLabel.Name = dr["LABEL_NAME"].ToString(); LabelData.Add(aggLabel); } } Converter public class CountToFontSizeConverter : IValueConverter { #region IValueConverter Members public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { const int minFontSize = 6; const int maxFontSize = 38; const int increment = 3; int count = (int)value; if ((minFontSize + count + increment) < maxFontSize) { return minFontSize + count + increment; } return maxFontSize; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion } AggregatedLabel Class public class AggregatedLabelModel { public int ID { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } CollectionView ListCollectionView labelsView = new ListCollectionView(LabelData); labelsView.GroupDescriptions.Add(new PropertyGroupDescription("Name"));

  • Most efficient way to combine two objects in C#

    - by Dested
    I have two objects that can be represented as an int, float, bool, or string. I need to perform an addition on these two objects with the results being the same thing c# would produce as a result. For instance 1+"Foo" would equal the string "1Foo", 2+2.5 would equal the float 5.5, and 3+3 would equal the int 6 . Currently I am using the code below but it seems like incredible overkill. Can anyone simplify or point me to some way to do this efficiently? private object Combine(object o, object o1) { float left = 0; float right = 0; bool isInt = false; string l = null; string r = null; if (o is int) { left = (int)o; isInt = true; } else if (o is float) { left = (float)o; } else if (o is bool) { l = o.ToString(); } else { l = (string)o; } if (o1 is int) { right = (int)o1; } else if (o is float) { right = (float)o1; isInt = false; } else if (o1 is bool) { r = o1.ToString(); isInt = false; } else { r = (string)o1; isInt = false; } object rr; if (l == null) { if (r == null) { rr = left + right; } else { rr = left + r; } } else { if (r == null) { rr = l + right; } else { rr = l + r; } } if (isInt) { return Convert.ToInt32(rr); } return rr; }

  • Precision error on matrix multiplication

    - by Wam
    Hello all, Coding a matrix multiplication in my program, I get precision errors (inaccurate results for large matrices). Here's my code. The current object has data stored in a flattened array, row after row. Other matrix B has data stored in a flattened array, column after column (so I can use pointer arithmetic). protected double[,] multiply (IMatrix B) { int columns = B.columns; int rows = Rows; int size = Columns; double[,] result = new double[rows,columns]; for (int row = 0; row < rows; row++) { for (int col = 0; col < columns; col++) { unsafe { fixed (float* ptrThis = data) fixed (float* ptrB = B.Data) { float* mePtr = ptrThis + row*rows; float* bPtr = ptrB + col*columns; double value = 0.0; for (int i = 0; i < size; i++) { value += *(mePtr++) * *(bPtr++); } result[row, col] = value; } } } } } Actually, the code is a bit more complicated : I do the multiply thing for several chunks (so instead of having i from 0 to size, I go from localStart to localStop), then sum up the resulting matrices. My problem : for a big matrix I get precision error : NUnit.Framework.AssertionException: Error at (0,1) expected: <6.4209571409444209E+18> but was: <6.4207619776304906E+18> Any idea ?

  • Printing a sideways triangle in java

    - by Will
    I'm trying to print a sideways triangle in java. If the user enters 5, the output should be: * *** ***** *** * If the user enters 6, the output should be: * *** ***** ***** *** * I've gotten it to work for the case when the user enters 5, 3, or 1 but my code seems to work for those three cases only. I was wondering if anyone could help me get my code working for more cases. Here it is: public void printArrow( int n ) { int asterisks = 1; for ( int i = 0; i <= n/2; i++ ) { for ( int j = i; j < asterisks; j++ ) { System.out.print( "*" ); } asterisks += 3; System.out.println(); } asterisks = asterisks / 2 - 2; for ( int i = 0; i < n/2; i++ ) { for ( int k = i; k < asterisks; k++ ) { System.out.print( "*" ); } if ( i == 1 ) { System.out.print( "*" ); } asterisks -= 2; System.out.println(); } }
