  I know for another post that using apt-get source linux-image-$(uname -r) I can get the kernel source, but I'm usign the 3.0.0-13-lowlatency-pae kernel and using the command, I got this message: Picking 'linux-lowlatency' as source package instead of 'linux-image-3.0.0-13-lowlatency-pae' So, I will appreciate any help, hope that someone know where it can be located.   If you've never been a fan of TreeSurgeon (http://treesurgeon.codeplex.com/) then skip this post.However, if have been there have been some interesting developments over the last couple of years.The biggest one is T4Recently Bill Simser wrote a detailed post about the potential future of tree surgeon, called "Tree Surgeon - Alive and Kicking or Dead and Buried" He raised the question:Times have changed. Since that last release in 2008 so much has changed for .NET developers. The question is, today is the project still viable? Do we still need a tool to generate a project tree given that we have things like scaffolding systems, NuGet, and T4 templates. Or should we just give the project its rightful and respectful send off as its had a good life and has outlived its usefulness.For myself, the answer is, keep it.I've spent the last couple of years doing agile engineering coaching and architecture and from my experience, I can tell you, there are a lot of shops out there that would benefit from having Tree Surgeon as a viable product.  Many would benefit simply from having the software engineering information that is embedded in the tree surgeon site be floating around their conversation.Little things like, keep all of your software needed to run the build, with the build in the version control system.Have your developers and the build system using the same build.Have a one-touch buildSeparate your code from your interfacePut unit tests in first, not lastI've seen companies with great developers suffer from the problems that naturally come from builds taking 3 and 4 hours to run.  It takes work to get that build down to 10 minutes, but the benefits are always worth it.  Tree Surgeon gives you a leg up, by starting you off with a project that you can drop into your Continuous Integration system, right out of the box.Well, it used to be right out of the box.  Today, you have to play with the project to make it work for you, but even with the issues (it hasn't been updated since 2008) it still gives you a framework, with logical separations that you can build from.If you have used Tree Surgeon in the past, take a few minutes and drop a comment about what difference it made in your development style, and what you are doing differently today because of it.

  I updated by computer from 12.04 to 12.10 and after I finished updating when I turned on my computer I am unable to update my computer. I tried install a new copy of 13.04 but my cpu doesn't support pae. I have a IBM Thinkpad T42 with a 1.7 gigahertx Cpu.   I just successfully upgraded from 10.04 to 12.04, and these instructions appear to be exactly what I want. However, for the life of me, I cannot find Thunderbird's tools menu to import my Evolution email. I am using Thunderbird installed as part of the 12.04 upgrade, and the Thunderbird global menu package is installed. I checked. I cannot find how to indicate what version Thunderbird is other than it was installed as part of 12.04. Thanks.

  I have noticed that spellcheck will work with any program on Ubuntu. For some reason, this stopped working when I purged OpenOffice and replaced it with LibreOffice. I am guessing that I failed to install back a package that provides this spellcheck. All of thee misstakes inn thiss sentencee were NoT caughht. Spell check is vital to me because I am a student and I can not hand in work with mispellings.

  Hi folks, What would be the best place to save jar files of libraries I want to use in a project, that are not in any repositories, and how should I set permissions? Should I put them in /usr/share/java, or is it better to store them somewhere in my home folder? What would be the most usefull access rights? Does it make sense to follow the convention in /usr/share/java of making a symlink with the package name to the specific version of the jar, and follow the permissions as used there?

  On my desktop Ubuntu 10.4 I use ffmpeg to convert videos to a format my dvd-player understands. On my laptop running 10.10 I can't get the same command to work, what package(s) are missing? ffmpeg -i infile.flv \ -threads 2 -vcodec mpeg4 -vtag divx -acodec libmp3lame -sameq \ outfile.avi #...snip Unknown encoder 'libmp3lame' Using apt-cache search libmp3lame I'm told there exist libmp3lame0 and libmp3lame-dev, both of which I've installed. Using acodec libmp3lame0 doesn't work either.

  So I have a Raspberry PI, with an 1TB external USB HD plugged into it. I have Debian Wheezy installed to which I added the NetaTalk package. Following this guide which is on Ubuntu, but was easy enough to understand - http://kremalicious.com/ubuntu-as-mac-file-server-and-time-machine-volume/ I was even able to change the icon to look like an X-Serve :-) Next step to add a second HD that will backup my Windows 8 laptop as well.

  Are you aware of a complete (or almost complete) cross platform math library for use in OpenGL ES 2.0 games? The library should contain: Matrix2x2, Matrix 3x3, Matrix4x4 classes Quaternions Vector2, Vector3, Vector4 Classes Euler Angle Class Operations amongh the above mentioned classes, conversions, etc.. Standardly used math operations in 3D graphics (Dot Product, Cross Product, SLERP, etc...) Is there such Math API available either standalone or as a part of any package? Programming Language: Visual C++ but planned to be ported to OS X and Android OS.

• What packages do I install for ffmpeg and libmp3lame?

  On my desktop Ubuntu 10.4 I use ffmpeg to convert videos to a format my dvd-player understands. On my laptop running 10.10 I can't get the same command to work, what package(s) are missing? ffmpeg -i infile.flv \ -threads 2 -vcodec mpeg4 -vtag divx -acodec libmp3lame -sameq \ outfile.avi #...snip Unknown encoder 'libmp3lame' Using apt-cache search libmp3lame I'm told there exist libmp3lame0 and libmp3lame-dev, both of which I've installed. Using acodec libmp3lame0 doesn't work either.

• The year ahead, 2011.

  When I look back at last years look at 2010 my blogging rate has not changed much (I suspect this is largely down to using Twitter a lot) but my interests this year have developed a lot further. My view on 2010 would be that Microsoft would commit more to OSS, while I wanted to see more hires from that audience and more projects on Outercurve foundation instead there has been support for JQuery and Gems (aka NuGet). I would love to see more from Microsoft on the OSS front in 2011, Outercurve could become like the Apache foundation with enough support. Staying on the Microsoft front I predict that 2011 will bring the following. C# 5.0 will go RTM (still no MOP though) The next release of VS will go alpha or early beta MS MVC 4.0 (I think by Mix time) and maybe this release will get a command line. I also suspect that Microsoft will want to target the tablet market with WP7 in 2011 (Mix 2011 maybe...). I also predict the following Java will fork with Apache\Google. Oracle will then take them to court and the whole thing will boil right through 2011 (Java have had enough court cases, come on guys). Java and the JVM will sadly not move forward at all in 2011. Android will cause Apple a serious headache, both the smartphone and tablet market will see figures cut from Apple share. By the end of 2011 the current 70% apple market share will be 40-50%. As the features, performance and price of Android devices gets ever better Apple will be left out in the open. Lastly after 7 years I intend to move this blog away from weblogs. In 2011 I will be exploring Java, Ruby\Rails and Android and such subjects don't make sense to talk about it here. See you in 2011.

• Clicking links in pdfs opened with Okular opens Abiword (instead of the default browser)

  I work with Xubuntu 12.04 and use Okular (version 0.14.3) to view pdf files. If I click a link in a pdf file (created with pdflatex using the hyperref package), Abiword is opened instead of my default browser google-chrome. How can I change this behavior? The settings in Okular do not seem to provide a solution. (Note that I set google-chrome as the preferred application for web browsing under Settings - Preferred Applications, so that's not the problem).
