  • How to provide users with isolated drive letters in Windows 2008 R2 (Terminal Server) [migrated]

    - by Pierre
I need to be able to host several RDP sessions on a Terminal Server, where users of group A see a drive X: mapped to a given folder of the server and another group B see the same drive letter X: mapped to another folder. For instance : User 1, Group A X: --> C:\data\A User 2, Group A X: --> C:\data\A User 3, Group B X: --> C:\data\B User 4, Group C X: --> C:\data\C Is this possible. If so, how do I configure the virtual drive mapping so that the user has nothing special to do; i.e. I want the letter X: to be available to Remote Apps launched by the user, or if the user logs in to the remote desktop. Can I somehow use subst to get this to work? I would like to avoid, if possible, mounting drive letters on local shares (i.e. I don't like the idea of having to go through \\localhost\data-A to reach the user's data).

  • Status of VB6/ Best Desktop Application Language with Native Compilation

    - by Sandeep Jindal
I was looking for a Desktop Application Programming Language with one of the biggest constraint: - “I need to output as native executable”. I explored multiple options: Java is not a very good option for desktop programming, but still you can use it. But Java to Exe is a problem. Only GCJ and Excelsior-Jet provides this. .Net platform does not support native compilation. Only very few expensive tools are available which can do the job. Python is not an option for native compilation. Right? VB6 is the option I am left with. From the above list, if I am correct, VB6 is the only and probably the best option I have. But VB6 itself has issues like: It is no more under development since There are questions on support of VB6 IDE with Vista Thus my questions are: From the list of programming language options, do you want to add any more? If VB6 is good/best option, looking at its development status, would you suggest using VB6 in this era?

  • Status of VB6/ Best Desktop Application Language with Native Compliation

    - by Sandeep Jindal
Hi, I was looking for a Desktop Application Programming Language with one of the biggest constraint: - “ I need to output as native executable”. I explored multiple options: a) Java is not a very good option for desktop programming, but still you can use it. But Java to Exe is a problem. [Only GCJ and Excelsior-Jet provides this][1]. b) .Net platform does not support native compilation. Only very few expensive tools are available which can do the job. c) Python is not an option for native compilation. Right? d) VB6 is the option I am left with. From the above list, if I am correct, VB6 is the only and probably the best option I have. But VB6 itself has issues like: a) It is no more under development since 2003. b) There are questions on support of VB6 IDE with Vista. Thus my questions are: a) From the list of programming language options, do you want to add any more? b) If VB6 is good/best option, looking at its development status, would you suggest using VB6 in this era? Regards Sandeep Jindal

  • Gmail IMAP OAuth for desktop clients

    - by Sabya
Recently Google announced that they are supporting OAUth for Gmail IMAP/SMTP. I browsed through their multiple documentations, but still I am confused about if they support OAuth for installed applications. 1. In this documentation they say: Note: Though the OAuth protocol supports the desktop/installed application use case, Google only supports OAuth for web applications. But they also have a document for OAuth for installed applications. 2. When I read the OAuth specification pointed by them, it says (in section 11.7): In many applications, the Consumer application will be under the control of potentially untrusted parties. For example, if the Consumer is a freely available desktop application, an attacker may be able to download a copy for analysis. In such cases, attackers will be able to recover the Consumer Secret used to authenticate the Consumer to the Service Provider. Also I think the disclaimer in point 1 above is about Google Data APIs, and surely IMAP/SMTP is not a part of them. I understand that for installed applications I can have a setup like: Have a small web-app at say example.com for my application. This web-app talks to Google gets the access token. The installed application talks to example.com only to get the access token. Installed application then talks to Google with the access token. I am now confused. Is this the only way?

  • Grails + GAE - Issue using app.servlet.version=2.5

    - by Taylor L
Updating the servlet version in application.properties to 2.5 has no affect on the generated web.xml. • Vimeo Desktop App OAuth

    - by Barry
Hi Guys, I'm currently having massive trouble with Vimeo's Oauth implementation and my desktop app. My program does the following correctly. 1- Requests a Unauthorized Request Token with my key and secret and returns - a Token and a Token secret. 2- Generates a URL for the user to go to using the token which then shows our application's name and allows the user to Authorize us to use his/her account. It then shows a verifier which the user returns and puts into our app. The problem is the third step and actually exchanging the tokens for the access tokens. Basically every time we try and get them we get a "Invalid / expired token - The oauth_token passed was either not valid or has expired" I looked at the documentation and there's supposed to be a callback to a server when deployed like that which gives the user an "authorized token" but as im developing a desktop app we can't do this. So I assume the token retrieved in 1 is valid for this step. (actually it seems it is: http://vimeo.com/forums/topic:22605) So I'm wondering now am I missing something here on my actual vimeo application account now? is it treating it as a web hosted app with callbacks? all the elements are there for this to work and I've used this same component to create a twitter Oauth login in exactly the same way and it was fine. Thanks in advance, Barry

  • Android SQLite database locale, locking, and version

    - by gdoten
In some books and online I see these method calls being made after a database is created: db.setLocale(Locale.getDefault()); db.setLockingEnabled(true); db.setVersion(DB_VERSION); Why is this done? As far as I can tell, after creating a new database, the system adds a table named android_metadata with one field named locale and that table has one row with the locale field set to "en_US". Now I assume the column has that value because I am using a U.S. phone, and if I were using a phone from a different region then the locale field would be set appropriately. Can anyone confirm this? I'm guessing that the setLocale method would only be useful in the case that you install a pre-built database onto a phone and then want to change the locale to match the phone's locale. Sound right? The documentation for setLockingEnabled says it defaults to true so there's no need to make that call, right? Lastly, what's with the call to setVersion? I can't find a table that contains this information so I've been assuming that the database file itself stores the version number somewhere. So when I create a database, which requires you to have already specified the version number in the call to the SQLiteOpenHelper constructor, there's no point in calling setVersion. Again, perhaps this method exists for the case of installing a pre-built database to a device and you then wish to change the database's version (though I can't think of when doing this would make sense). Thanks for any insight!

  • Old desktop programmer wants to create S+S project

    - by Craig
I have an idea for a product that I want to be web-based. But because I live in Brasil, the internet is not always available so there needs to be a desktop component that is available for when the internet is down. Also, I have been a SQL programmer, a desktop application programmer using dBase, VB and Pascal, and I have created simple websites using HTML and website creation tools, such as Frontpage. So from my research, I think I have the following options; PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python or .NET for the programming side. MySQL for the DB. And Apache, or possibly IIS, for the webserver. I will probably start with a local ISP provider for the cloud servce. But then maybe move to something more "robust" and universal in the future, ie. Amazon, or Azure, or something along that line. My question then is this. What would you recommend for something like this? I'm sure that I have not listed all of the possibilities, but the ones I have researched and thought of. Thanks everyone, Craig

  • Redirect Desktop Internal Pages to Correct Mobile Internal Pages with Htaccess

    - by Luis Alejandro Ramrez Gallardo
I have built a Mobile site in a sub-domain. I have successfully implemented the redirect 302 from: www.domain.com to m.domain.com in htaccess. What I'm looking to achieve now it to redirect users from: www.domain.com/internal-page/ > 302 > m.domain.com/internal-page.html Notice that URL name for desktop and mobile is not the same. The code I'm using looks like this: # BEGIN WordPress <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteRule ^index\.php$ - [L] RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule . /index.php [L] </IfModule> # END WordPress # Mobile Redirect # Verify Desktop Version Parameter RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (^|&)ViewFullSite=true(&|$) # Set cookie and expiration RewriteRule ^ - [CO=mredir:0:www.domain.com:60] # Prevent looping RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^m.domain.com$ # Define Mobile agents RewriteCond %{HTTP_ACCEPT} "text\/vnd\.wap\.wml|application\/vnd\.wap\.xhtml\+xml" [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "sony|symbian|nokia|samsung|mobile|windows ce|epoc|opera" [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "mini|nitro|j2me|midp-|cldc-|netfront|mot|up\.browser|up\.link|audiovox"[NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "blackberry|ericsson,|panasonic|philips|sanyo|sharp|sie-"[NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "portalmmm|blazer|avantgo|danger|palm|series60|palmsource|pocketpc"[NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} "smartphone|rover|ipaq|au-mic,|alcatel|ericy|vodafone\/|wap1\.|wap2\.|iPhone|android"[NC] # Verify if not already in Mobile site RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^m\. # We need to read and write at the same time to set cookie RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} !(^|&)ViewFullSite=true(&|$) # Verify that we previously haven't set the cookie RewriteCond %{HTTP_COOKIE} !^.*mredir=0.*$ [NC] # Now redirect the users to the Mobile Homepage RewriteRule ^$ http://m.domain.com [R] RewriteRule $/internal-page/ http://m.domain.com/internal-page.html [R,L]

  • Adobe Air update error "file version doesn't match" but it's the same!...

    - by baroquedub
I'm using Claus Wahlers' AIR Remote Updater class (codeazur.com.br/lab/airremoteupdater/). All works fine and an update is triggered if the remote version is newer. The newer file is downloaded and the update starts. However I then get "an error has occured" message: "This application cannot be installed because this installer has been mis-configured" (The same file will update without errors when run manually "Would you like to replace the currently installed version?" Choosing 'replace' works fine) I have enabled Air Application Installer logging and I can see that both the app id and the pub id match - this seems to be a common reason for this problem (forums.adobe.com/thread/243421?tstart=60) The error given in the log file is as follows: AIR file version doesn't match Requested version: ; AIR file version: 1.0.2 But if I unzip the new app file and look at META-INF\AIR\application.xml the version designator shows <version>1.0.2</version> As requested! The log file is also showing me where the newer file is being downloaded and unpacked. If I look at the application.xml file in that directory: Unpackaging to C:\Documents and Settings\myusername\Local Settings\Temp\fla893D.tmp the version designator also shows <version>1.0.2</version> I don't get it?! The log tells me that the requested file version doesn't match but it's exactly the same as what's shown in the version designator of the downloaded update package... This is driving me crazy. Can anyone help?

  • Developing Air (Flex) Applications for Android and Desktop

    - by Roaders
I am an experienced Flex and Air Developer and love Android having owned a G1, a milestone (Droid), a Nexus One, a Galaxy S and now a Nexus S. Understandably I am interested in developing Flex applications for Android. I have just started working through the flex for android in 90 mins tutorial here: http://coenraets.org/flexandroid90/FlexAndroid90Minutes.pdf The very first step says that I have to create a Flex Mobile Project. I was under the impression that the whole point of Air is that the same application could run on many different platforms. I was intending on creating an air app with different skins that could be swapped in and out depending on the platform it was running on. This seems to imply that I will have to compile my Air app once for desktop and once for mobile. This isn't the end of the world but it's not quite how I expected it to work. I suppose that if I am creating mobile specific skins then I may as well create a mobile specific app. Is it possible to create one Air app that will run on both mobile and desktop? Is this a good idea?

  • MVC for a desktop application, connection a view/controller pair with another one

    - by lcf
Hello. I've had mostly experience with "server-side" mvc frameworks very popular in different languages like ASP.NET MVC or Zend Framework for php, Spring for Java etc. Some of them are also possible to use for desktop applications development but I never tried that. I fully understand that design patterns should not limit implementation, they should generally provide ideas and common rules that can be differently implemented. Now I'm playing with one of those mvc frameworks for usual Desktop Applications development (it does not have many tutorials or a decent quickstart) and I have some questions regarding to the mvc paradigm. Here is one of them: What are common ways to link different views / controllers? If I click a button, special controller for that button dispatches the event that is generated, does something with the model, changes view state. But what if I need to interact with another view? Like, when I click on a button, it changes a model, but also I need to open another window or change state of another window (hiding a button on another window let's say...), without changing actually the model. What are common ways here to address this? Should my first controller generate an event for the second controller (or second view)? Or should the second controller be handling events from first view? Some links or examples for any languages/frameworks would be really helpful, thanks!

  • URL path changes between dev and published version

    - by Bob Horn
    I just got Scott Hanselman's chat app with SignalR working with ASP.NET MVC 4. After hours of configuration, trial and error, and getting different versions of Windows to talk to each other on my home network, it's all working except that I'm left with one issue that I'm not sure how to handle. This line of javascript has to change, depending on if I'm running the app through Visual Studio or the published (IIS) version: Works when running within VS: var connection = $.connection('echo'); Works with published version: var connection = $.connection('ChatWithSignalR/echo'); When I run within VS, the URL is: http://localhost:9145/ And the published version is: http://localhost/ChatWithSignalR If I don't change that line of code, and try to run the app within VS, using the javascript that has ChatWithSignalR in it, I get an error like this: Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) http://localhost:9145/ChatWithSignalR/echo/negotiate?_=1347809290826 What can I do so that I can use the same javascript code and have it work in both scenarios? var connection = $.connection('??????'); Note, this is in my Global.asax.cs: RouteTable.Routes.MapConnection<MyConnection>("echo", "echo/{*operation}");

  • SVN Version Rollback Question

    - by phimuemue
Hello, I'm using SVN (TortoiseSVN) and often came into the following situation: I wanted to discard any changes since a specific (old) revision and turn all files back to this specific (old) version. Then I wanted to work further as if this specific (old) revision was the newest one, i.e. I wanted to be able to commit the specific old revision as a new revision. I found several solutions for this problem (for example stackoverflow.com/questions/402159/roll-back-or-revert-entire-svn-repository-to-an-older-revision or rustyrazorblade.com/2007/04/how-to-roll-back-commits-to-an-earlier-version-of-a-repository-in-svn/). However, I wonder if there is a simple way to roll back to a specific revision. I thought version control is just good for such things (or am I misunderstanding something?). Is there a simple command/button/etc. that takes an updates my local repository to an old revision and declares it to be the newest one? Since I suppose that there is no "built-in" function to do this, I wanted to know what reason lead the developers to the decision not to integrate this feature. Does anybody know this?

  • Change DPI of one user using W2K3 Remote Desktop / Terminal Server

    - by GvS
In short: How do I increase the DPI of some (not all) of our customers connected to our RDP server? We are running a W2K3 Terminal Server that our clients connect to to run our application. One of our clients complains that all fonts / icons etc are too small. This user has a high DPI monitor. The DPI of the client OS (XP in this case) is not transferred to the server. To make things worse (or more interesting) the Display properties dialog disables the Advanced button that you can use to change the DPI on normal clients.

  • XRDP: window manager not starting

    - by niboshi
I have setup my Ubuntu server so that I can connect and login to XRDP from Windows remote desktop. My problem is that after logging in, no window-manager is started. It only displays a single gnome-terminal with no border and gray meshed background. It seems that /usr/sbin/xrdp-sesman itself is running (from observation of ps and /var/run/xrdp/xrdp-sesman.pid). I put debugging line like touch /home/myname/aaaaa into ~/startwm.sh or /etc/xrdp/startwm.sh, but the file aaaaa did not generated after logging in, so these scripts have not been executed. (Both of them have chmod +x permission.) Am I missing some configuration file, or is there any way of further inspection? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. • /etc/rc.local not being run on Ubuntu Desktop Install

    - by loosecannon
    I have been trying to get sphinx to run at boot, so I added some lines to /etc/rc.local but nothing happens when I start up. If i run it manually it works however. /etc/init.d/rc.local start works fine as does /etc/rc.local It's listed in the default runlevel and is all executable but it does not work. I am considering writing a separate init.d script to do the same thing but that's a lot of work for a simple task dumbledore:/etc/init.d# ls -l rc* -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 8863 2009-09-07 13:58 rc -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 801 2009-09-07 13:58 rc.local -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 117 2009-09-07 13:58 rcS dumbledore:/etc/init.d# ls /etc/rc.local -l -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 491 2011-05-14 16:13 /etc/rc.local dumbledore:/etc/init.d# runlevel N 2 dumbledore:/etc/init.d# ls /etc/rc2.d/ -l total 4 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-04-22 18:53 K08vmware -> /etc/init.d/vmware -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 677 2011-03-28 15:10 README lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-04-22 18:53 S19vmware -> /etc/init.d/vmware lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-05-15 14:09 S20ddclient -> ../init.d/ddclient lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2011-03-10 18:00 S20fancontrol -> ../init.d/fancontrol lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2011-03-10 18:00 S20kerneloops -> ../init.d/kerneloops lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 27 2011-03-10 18:00 S20speech-dispatcher -> ../init.d/speech-dispatcher lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2011-03-10 18:00 S25bluetooth -> ../init.d/bluetooth lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 20 2011-03-10 18:00 S50pulseaudio -> ../init.d/pulseaudio lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2011-03-10 18:00 S50rsync -> ../init.d/rsync lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 15 2011-03-10 18:00 S50saned -> ../init.d/saned lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 2011-03-10 18:00 S70dns-clean -> ../init.d/dns-clean lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-03-10 18:00 S70pppd-dns -> ../init.d/pppd-dns lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2011-05-07 11:22 S75sudo -> ../init.d/sudo lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 24 2011-03-10 18:00 S90binfmt-support -> ../init.d/binfmt-support lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 17 2011-05-12 21:18 S91apache2 -> ../init.d/apache2 lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2011-03-10 18:00 S99acpi-support -> ../init.d/acpi-support lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 21 2011-03-10 18:00 S99grub-common -> ../init.d/grub-common lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-03-10 18:00 S99ondemand -> ../init.d/ondemand lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2011-03-10 18:00 S99rc.local -> ../init.d/rc.local dumbledore:/etc/init.d# cat /etc/rc.local #!/bin/sh -e # # rc.local # # This script is executed at the end of each multiuser runlevel. # Make sure that the script will "exit 0" on success or any other # value on error. # # In order to enable or disable this script just change the execution # bits. # # By default this script does nothing. # Start sphinx daemon for rails app on startup # Added 2011-05-13 # Cannon Matthews cd /var/www/extemp /usr/bin/rake ts:config /usr/bin/rake ts:start touch ./tmp/ohyeah cd - exit 0 dumbledore:/etc/init.d# cat /etc/init.d/rc.local #! /bin/sh ### BEGIN INIT INFO # Provides: rc.local # Required-Start: $remote_fs $syslog $all # Required-Stop: # Default-Start: 2 3 4 5 # Default-Stop: # Short-Description: Run /etc/rc.local if it exist ### END INIT INFO PATH=/sbin:/usr/sbin:/bin:/usr/bin . /lib/init/vars.sh . /lib/lsb/init-functions do_start() { if [ -x /etc/rc.local ]; then [ "$VERBOSE" != no ] && log_begin_msg "Running local boot scripts (/etc/rc.local)" /etc/rc.local ES=$?
