• Unity - Certain applications don't stay in Launcher

  I can start up IntelliJ Idea using the commandline, which is a shell script that starts up a java process. It then appears in the launcher, as normal. I can select "Keep in Launcher", but it only remains there until I reboot, then it disapears again. This is the only application I've seen that does this - Stuff already in the applications menu stocks around fine if I tell it to stay in the launcher.

• How can I change a folder's icon by using a script?

  I have in my Profile folder "Home" some specials folders as "Wallpapers", "TXT", etc. and y use for those an personalized icon, the problem is that any time I reinstall Ubuntu, I have to assign again the icon to that particular folder, and with the years an the installs the number of folders are increasing. So I need a automatic way to assign those custom icons to those special folders, Its any way to do that? PS: I hope somebody could help me. Regards Muhadiv

  Stackexchange uses imgur link to show the image to their website, but how do I do this? I am really curious on what ways I can upload an image to a file and show it immediatly again. Like webshops where you can post your products are also uploading images to show them immediatly. What way are there to do this and what is the best / most secure?(I assume how stackexchange does it), but I also have no idea how to do that.

• When using sudo, I get 'premission denied'

  When using sudo to allow edits to files, I regularly get 'permission denied'. For example, my mouse is jittery and sluggish, so I want to disable polling: sudo echo "options drm_kms_helper poll=N">/etc/modprobe.d/local.conf I'm prompted for a password, and then get: bash: /etc/modprobe.d/local.conf: Permission denied So I tried to do a temporary change to disable polling by using: sudo echo N> /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll Yet again the system responded with: bash: /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll: Permission denied Any ideas?

• Mobile Broadband Connection terminating automatically after 2-3 minutes

  I am connecting my mobile device with Ubuntu to access INTERNET, It connects easily but after 2-3 minutes it automatically disconnect and then I have to disconnect my mobile device and then reconnect it again to establish a connection. Cant understand what is the problem. No problem with my device as it works flawless with windows. I tried the steps below at terminal , it made the shutting down background image correct but still the background image of booting time is kubuntu image. sudo update-alternatives --set default.plymouth /lib/plymouth/themes/ubuntu-logo/ubuntu-logo.plymouth How could i change this image to the default Ubuntu image too?

• Graphic crash after Ubuntu 12.04 minor update

  My problem came after doing a normal packages update in 12.04 and then reboot to never been able to boot normally, it appear the "The system is running in low-graphics mode" window and then I tried to fix the problem reinstalling the gmd. Now I'm reinstalling the whole system, from the USB boot it went everything as usual before that update. I just want to never have to reinstall Ubuntu in this way again. Any thoughts? I'm using Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on an Acer Aspire One D255

  I was faced today by an exception saying that "Farm is unavailable" and the call stack which for sure wasn't useful for diagnosing that type of error. My solution to this error was straight forward and below are the steps that I've followed: 1. Open run and type services.msc 2. Search for the SQL server instance and in my case I've found that it's not running, so simply start it :) After that, refresh the page and everything is normal again !

• Is there a way to revert my Lubuntu to the "Previous Linux version" at the boot menu

  Today, after some auto upgrade i think, my Lubuntu boot to a blank wallpaper and wrong graphich display. If I boot my computer again, instead of select the first line in the boot menu, I select "previous linux version" and select one old version in the list then my computer boot fine. Now, is there a way to revert my linux to that version? Or I will always have to select this when I boot? Thank you very much

  I had ubuntu installed for a few weeks now untill it had a kernel update and i canceled the wifi driver because it didnt worked, since then i wasent able to boot into ubuntu. I tryed to boot from livecd but it didnt worked either. I was able to succssecfuly install windows 7 64 bit now and also format my hard drive but i dont like windows and when i tryed to install ubunru again to still didnt worked. Please help me! • How to map TFS to two local directories

  I am working with a web application, using TFS. Every time I build the site it takes an unproductivly long time to start up again. I would like to have a second mapping of the site on my c drive, where I would only get latest and build once a day, so this version would always be fast. This would be like a "readonly" directory as I wouldn't personally make any edits to it. Please let me know if this possible, or if you have any alternative.
