  • What program can I use to open .mld (recorded webcam) files?

    - by mike
I am looking for a program to open video files with the extension .mld (This is a file from a video recording software I had a long time ago). Does anybody know any programs in Ubuntu that can open such files? Zoals de titel luidt: ik ben op zoek naar een programma dat videobestanden met de extensie .mld kan openen. Dit is een bestand van een wecbamrecorder die ik vroeger had op Windows. Alvast heel erg bedankt.

  • How to reduce bubble-notification time in empathy?

    - by MCan
empathy shows a bubble notification message on top right corner if a user comes online or goes offline (obviously we can change them from the preferences), but is there any way we can reduce the time for which the bubble notification remains on screen. By default it remains fro 3-4 seconds, is there any way we can change it to 1 or may be 2 seconds (I know the matter is of few seconds only but 4 seconds looks too long and I want to reduce it). Any help is welcome. Cheers.

  • Random Vector within a cone

    - by Paul
I'm looking to create a random vector within a cone given the radius (base). It feels like I've been traversing through many pages on the internet and still I'm no further forward to getting an answer. I was thinking I could get a point within the base of the cone and have it point towards the apex (then just use the inverse of that for my animation) but this seems like an incredibly long winded approach.

  • KVM, QEMU, and kernel project management

<b>LWN.net:</b> "Both the code and its development model are seen as conforming much more closely to the Linux way of doing things than the alternatives; KVM is expected to be the long-term virtualization solution for Linux. So, one might well wonder, why has KVM been the topic of one of the more massive and less pleasant linux-kernel discussions in some time?"

  • what is a squeeze page?

    - by Steve
I've been reading a marketing book which suggests building a squeeze page to build an email list. Does this mean one of those long sales letter type pages with crumby styling? I'm assuming the styling does not have to be generic, or does it? Or, if the sales letter is not a squeeze page, what is a squeeze page? Is there an easy way to build one, and what considerations should be undertaken when building one?

  • How often should multiplayer games communicate with the server?

    - by Bane
I once heard that Runescape "ticks" every 0.3s, and that seemed like a very long period of time, although Runescape is kind of a slow game. I'm building a more dynamic top-down shooter game, and I'm wandering, how often should I communicate with the server? ASAP, or every 0.1s? How do shooter games usually do it? Both the server and the client are written in Javascript, node.js and socket.io are being used.

  • Will google "forget" unlinked pages?

    - by Mystere Man
If i remove all links to a page, but do not delete the page from the site (nor block it from being requested), will google eventually "forget" about it when it reindexes the site? Assuming of course there are no other links to the page somewhere else externally. Or will google continue to request the page and verify it in the index and keep it around so long as it returns a valid page? Is this similar for Bing et al?

  • What's the current wait time for reconsideration requests for Google's webmaster tools?

    - by chrism2671
We recently received an unnatural links penalty to our site; a rogue SEO firm did us some serious damage, and we lost 40% of our traffic (hundreds of thousands of users) overnight. The effect on our business has been severe and we're really hoping we making things right. We submitted a reconsideration request but I'm wondering how long I should forecast for an outcome, as it will have a knock on effect for our business.

  • Multiple readers on FIFO

    - by poly
I've asked a question here before about multiple writers on a FIFO, and I know now that the write is thread safe as long as I write less than the PIPE_BIF, here is the link for that limit. What about read? what if have two(or more) readers in multiple threads for reading from the same fifo, do I need locks here? or all I need is to read less than the PIPE_BUF? BTW, I'm talking about Linux FIFO, And I'm using C.

  • Determine Better Coding Practice

    - by footprint.
As a new programmer, it has always been hard to create applications, because I am still at the learning stage. I understand that to achieve a particular affect or function in an application, there will be numerous ways to achieve the same result. However, should I just purely create a function to it's working state, which means that as long as it works, just as the way I want it to, then it should be fine. Can any fellow programmers of a higher level kindly let me know the right way of doing things?
