  • Resources for writing kernel in C

    - by anon
I don't want to write my own boot loader -- happy to use Grub. I just want to implement pre-emptive multi threading, a basic file system, and virtual memory. I want something that can run on top of qemu. What's a good resource (book / tutorial) for accomplishing this goal? Thanks!

  • How to automate detection of out of order tab navigation in Qt dialogs?

    - by WilliamKF
Typically, a dialog wishes to have tab navigation proceed in an orderly fashion through a dialog that roughly corresponds to the order of reading a book. When new fields are added to a dialog by engineers on a team, the new widgets can often not be inserted in tab correct order. Can anyone think of a way to automate the detection of out of tab navigation order widgets within a dialog?

  • python `IN` module problem (FreeBSD)

    - by Shamanu4
I'm trying to work with sockets and I have such problem In code example: setsockopt(socket.SOL_SOCKET,IN.SO_BINDTODEVICE,self.listen_address+'\0') I have error AttributeError: 'module' object has no attribute 'SO_BINDTODEVICE' On Linux machine this attribute is OK but on FreeBSD trere are no any SO_* attributes in module IN. What port should I install to resolve this problem on FreeBDS machine? Python versions on Linux tested: 2.5.4 and 2.6.4; on FreeBSD: 2.5.5 I can't find anything about this module in my book, and googling keyword IN looks like seamless ...

  • Converting part of a multi-purpose XML file to RSS using XSL

    - by Nate McCloud
I have an XML file that I use for storing and displaying recipes that I collect, but that same XML file also has updates for the site at the top of it. How would I, say, use Recipes.xsl to transform Recipes.xml for display as an actual website, and use RecipesRSS.xsl to transform Recipes.xml into Recipes.rss? Currently, my XML file is formatted something like this: <book> <updates> <update when="2010-04-19"> <format> <update>Formatting updates here, if any. Otherwise, omit the Format section.</update> ... </format> <recipes> <update>Recipe updates here, if any. Otherwise, omit the Recipes section.</update> ... </recipes> </update> ... </updates> <recipe name="Recipe Name"> <from>Recipe source</from> <category>Recipe category</category> <ingredients> <ingredient>Recipe ingredient</ingredient> ... </ingredients> <instructions> <step>Recipe instructions go here.</step> ... </instructions> <notes> <note>Additional notes go here, if any. Otherwise, Notes section is omitted.</note> ... </notes> </recipe> ... </book> Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Learning Javascript in one weekend?

    - by dueyfinster
Similiar to this question, I am wondering if experienced Javascript developers have any websites they use with examples to get the basics of Javascript down in 24/28 hours? I have looked at Douglas Crockford's Google Tech Talk and I bought the book "Javascript: the good parts" but I haven't had time to read it.

  • Variable reference in a Groovy GString

    - by Maurits Rijk
From the book "Groovy and Grails recipes" I'm using the following code snippet: String HelloLanguage = "def hello(language) {return \"Hello $language\"}" However, I get a compiler error "You attempted to reference a variable in the binding or an instance variable from a static context." because language can't be bound. What is wrong?

  • Override generic methods in c#

    - by Pascal
I thought I can not override generic methods of a derived class. http://my.safaribooksonline.com/book/programming/csharp/9780071741163/generics/ch18lev1sec13 The code in this link runs fine. The overriden method is called although the instance type of the base class is used and not the instance of the derived type. Now I am confused because a former question of mine Type parameter declaration must be identifier not a type is about calling the overriding generic method with the instance of base type which did NOT work!

  • lock-free memory reclamation with 64bit pointers

    - by JDonner
Herlihy and Shavit's book (The Art of Multiprocessor Programming) solution to memory reclamation uses Java's AtomicStampedReference<T>;. To write one in C++ for the x86_64 I imagine requires at least a 12 byte swap operation - 8 for a 64bit pointer and 4 for the int. Is there x86 hardware support for this and if not, any pointers on how to do wait-free memory reclamation without it?
