I'm a .NET programmer who've just started to learn more about client side scripting, and I was wondering sometimes you use $get('value') and $find('value') and I've discovered that these are just shortcuts for document.getElementById('value') and Sys.Application.findComponent('value'), respectively.
However, I still don't understand: what is the difference between these two functions in JavaScript? What exactly are they looking up/retrieving when invoked?

I was wondering specifically about whether ItemCreated or ItemBound happens first but I can't seem to find any information on the order that ListView events fire. Can anyone point me to a resource for this information?

I am trying to find a frequency of each symbol in any given text using an algorithm of O(n) complexity. My algorithm looks like:
s = len(text)
P = 1.0/s
freqs = {}
for char in text:
try:
freqs[char]+=P
except:
freqs[char]=P
but I doubt that this dictionary-method is fast enough, because it depends on the underlying implementation of the dictionary methods. Is this the fastest method?
For Eg..(.HTML gives an idea of that website developed with HTML, .aspx gives an idea of
that website developed with ASP.NET and so on...). But, if extension is hidden, then can we able to find out in any other way? Is it possible to know ?..Thanks..

I am adding a label controls at run time. I can add or modify text in label and can change the font also.Now my problem is When i changed the font of text in label, alignment is not proper,its due to padding.Is there any way to find how much padding is ocured [ed: obscured?] based on font?

example from other subject(web):
In browser I can listen to the events and catch the DOM object that was clicked,
in this way I can save the DOM object data.
catching UI components that was changed by the user will give the option to save UI componentdata, and to perform the user actions automatic.

What is the best way to find the period in a repeating list?
For example:

has repeat {4, 5, 1, 2, 3} with the remainder {4, 5, 1, 2} matching, but being incomplete.
The algorithm should be fast enough to handle longer cases, like so:
b = RandomInteger[10000, {100}];
a = Join[b, b, b, b, Take[b, 27]]
The algorithm should return $Failed if there is no repeating pattern like above.
