  • Apache: Stealth 404 the admin area until authenticated via basic auth, then allow access

    - by Kzqai
Given a administrative area with urls like this: wp-admin/ wp-admin/whatever wp-admin/another-page wp-adminsecretlogin/ A standard basic-auth coverage would provide a username and password prompt on all three urls, and return a 403 on all failed auth attempts. This is a pretty obvious signal that something exists there, and thus is an invitation to script/brute force access. I would like to instead, require basic auth everywhere, but when not authenticated, not prompt for username and password, and instead return a 404 not found error for all urls except a wp-adminsecretlogin/ url. At that individual-to-the-site url, basic auth could go through, and unlock the rest of the administrative functionality (though the standard application login would still be necessary). How would I do that via apache .htaccess or .conf directives?

  • Cross-platform build UNC share (Windows->Linux) - possible to be case-sensitive on CIFS share?

    - by holtavolt
To optimize builds between Windows and Linux (Ubuntu 10.04), I've got a UNC share of the source tree that is shared between systems, and all build output goes to local disk on each system. This mostly works great, as source updates and changes can quickly be tested on both systems, but there's one annoying limitation I can't find a way around, which is that the Linux CIFS mount is case-insensitive. Consequently, a test compile of code that has an error like: #include "Foo.h" for a file foo.h, will not be caught by a test build (until a local compile is done on the Linux box, e.g. nightly builds) Is it possible to have case-sensitivity of the Windows UNC share on the Linux box? I've tried a variety of fstab and mount combinations with no success, as well as editing the smb.config to set "case sensitive = yes" Given what the Ubuntu man page info states on this: nocase Request case insensitive path name matching (case sensitive is the default if the server suports it). I suspect that this is a limitation from the Windows UNC side, and there's nothing to be done short of switching to some other mechanism (is NFS still viable anywhere?) If anyone has already solved this to support optimized cross-platform build environments, I'd appreciate hearing about it!

  • Right solution for /etc/hosts file reset on reboot

    - by user846226
i've just installed funtoo and after setting the FQDN on /etc/conf.d/hostname i noticed when setting a list of aliases in /etc/hosts file it get overwtiten on each reboot. Someone points to set the aliases to 127.0.0.2 ip address but that's not a valid solution for me. Could someone point me to the file where i should place entries like 127.0.0.1 local.foo 127.0.0.1 local.bar in order to make them persist in /etc/hosts after rebooting? Thanks! PD: I think openresolv could be the one who is overwritting the file.

  • Having two FTP ports for the user

    - by user1663896
I'm running vsftpd on RedHat 6.4 using TLS/SSL on port 990. It works great. I have been tasked to have my VSFTPD server running on unencrypted port 21 as well. This gives my users to either use clear text FTP on port 21 or TLS/SSL on port 990. I have tried the following in my vsftpd.conf file and did not work. listen_port=990 listen_port=21 In my config file it has the following SSL parameters: chroot_local_user=YES ssl_enable=YES allow_anon_ssl=NO anonymous_enable=NO anon_world_readable_only=NO force_local_data_ssl=NO force_local_logins_ssl=NO require_ssl_reuse=NO Can VSFTPD run on port 21 and 990? Thanks in advanced.

  • Which modules can be disabled in apache2.4 on windows

    - by j0h
    I have an Apache 2.4 webserver running on Windows. I am looking into system hardening and the config file httpd.conf. There are numerous load modules and I am wondering which modules I can safely disable for performance and / or security improvements. Some examples of things I would think I can disable are: LoadModule cgi_module others like LoadModule rewrite_module LoadModule version_module LoadModule proxy_module LoadModule setenvif_module I am not so sure they can be disabled. I am running php5 as a scripting engine, with no databases, and that is it. My loaded modules are: core mod_win32 mpm_winnt http_core mod_so mod_access_compat mod_actions mod_alias mod_allowmethods mod_asis mod_auth_basic mod_authn_core mod_authn_file mod_authz_core mod_authz_groupfile mod_authz_host mod_authz_user mod_autoindex mod_dav_lock mod_dir mod_env mod_headers mod_include mod_info mod_isapi mod_log_config mod_cache_disk mod_mime mod_negotiation mod_proxy mod_proxy_ajp mod_rewrite mod_setenvif mod_socache_shmcb mod_ssl mod_status mod_version mod_php5

  • Synergy configuration with multiple X screens

    - by Rob Drimmie
I'm having a problem figuring out how to configure synergy to behave on a system with multiple X windows. On my desktop I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. I have two monitors, setup as separate X screens by preference as well as to enable me to rotate the left-hand monitor. I also have a laptop, which I have on the desk in front of me, lower than the other two monitors. I have a very simple synergy.conf: section: screens desktop: laptop.local: end section: links desktop: down = laptop laptop: up = desktop end It works, but on the desktop only on whichever screen I run synergys from in terminal (I haven't set it up to run at startup yet because I've been playing with the configuration). I can't find any information how to reference multiple screens on one system, and would appreciate any help.

  • Can't access phpMyAdmin because of host, username and password

    - by Engprof
everyone. When I try to access phpMyAdmin on Uniform Server I get the following error messages: " #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES) " " phpMyAdmin tried to connect to the MySQL server, and the server rejected the connection. You should check the host, username and password in your configuration and make sure that they correspond to the information given by the administrator of the MySQL server. " The funny thing is my username and password are both set to "root" and I have changed the IP address in the httpd.conf file to my Unique IP adddress, so I still don't know what the problem is. Could somebody please help me out? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Web application access different between Domain Name and IP

    - by h82
in our office, we have a web application running. When we access the application by the domain name, http://server.domain.com/application/name it will display the current version of application. However, when we go by the IP address, http://192.168.1.111/application/name it will display the old version of that application. One thing is that we can access that application either by http://server.domain.com/ (it will be redirected to the long URL automatically) or http://server.domain.com/application/name when we are using domain name. But only accessible via the exact URL when we use IP address. Why is it showing the old version and how can it be corrected? It is running JRun4, Apache on Red hat. I've checked in httpd.conf a bit but could not find any. Please advice what should be done to display the same (updated version) when we access using domain name or IP address. Thank you.

  • Grepping through the results of apachectl -S

    - by CamelBlues
I have a server with about 300 virtual hosts. When I want to make sure a specific httpd.conf file is loaded into the Virual Host config and the syntax is correct, I run apachectl -S. The problem is, though, I get a ton of output. I've tried apacectl -S | grep 'foo' and apachectl -S > foo.txt to try and make this data a little bit more manageable, but the output of the command is not conducive to grepping or shoving into a text file. When I try apachectl -S | grep 'foo', it simply returns the entire output of apachectl -S. When I try apachectl -S > foo.txt, foo.txt is an empty file. This may have something to do with how the server is configured, because I am able to successfully grep on my local machine. Any suggestions?

  • How to "debug" a keyboard in Linux? Like pressing a key and seeing a code in a terminal.

    - by Somebody still uses you MS-DOS
I didn't have an answer to my problem about adding additional keyboards in my Ubuntu 10.04. Questions mark is not working in my keyboard, only using Alt Gr key + W. So, I don't know if this is a problem with Ubuntu or Virtualbox itself (I'm running it inside a VM). I would like to debug this problem. The keyboard is plugged in, so when I press a key I believe something is being sent to my operating system, some code, I don't know. I would like to digg this problem, find some damn key code and find some damn *.conf file and manually fix my problem. So, do an application like this exist in Linux?

  • Sudo asks for password twice with LDAP authentication

    - by Gnudiff
I have Ubuntu 8.04 LTS machine and Windows 2003 AD domain. I have succesfully set up that I can log in with domain username and password, using domain prefix, like "domain+username". Upon login to machine it all works first try, however, for some reason when I try to sudo my logged in user, it asks for the password twice every time when I try sudo. It accepts the password after 2nd time, but not the first time. Once or twice I might think I just keep entering wrong pass the first time, but this is what happens always, any ideas of what's wrong? pam.conf is empty pam.d/sudo only includes common-auth & common-account, and common-auth is: auth sufficient pam_unix.so nullok_secure auth sufficient pam_winbind.so auth requisite pam_deny.so auth required pam_permit.so

  • Proftpd: How to set default root to a users home directory without jailing the user?

    - by sacamano
Hi there. I've installed proftpd on my debian box but I'm having having some trouble with the configuration. In my proftpd.conf I've added; DefaultRoot ~ !ftp_special This works fine in that all users except members of ftp-special are unable to navigate outside of their home folder. However, I want users that are members of ftp-special to enter a special home folder when logging on to the ftp server but at the same time I want them to be able to navigate the entire server. Right now, if a user that is a member of ftp-special logs on his entry-point is the root ( / ). Thanks in advance.

  • Sync Linux to Windows 2003/2008 Natively

    - by user26753
Without using any external packages for Windows, can Linux synchronise it's clock to a Windows 03/08 Server natively? I've tried it using various NTP packages for Windows but would like to use just Windows software for this. EDIT: I've tried the below however it doesn't work. I've put TimeSource in /etc/hosts, stated server TimeSource in /etc/ntp.conf however when I do a service ntpd start it doesn't sync (it's 3 minutes out at the minute). I then stopped the NTPD and did a ntpdate TimeSource, thinking it would sync and then I'd start the NTPD once it's got the time, and it says: no server suitable for synchronization found. Though I can ping it. Any thoughts?

  • asterisk outbound caller id

I'm using flowroute as my carrier. Is there something wrong on their side?

  • I can not cd "LaunchAgents" on macbook

after installing mongdb on my macbook-pro, it tells me: If this is your first install, automatically load on login with: cp /usr/local/Cellar/mongodb/1.6.3-x86_64/org.mongodb.mongod.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents launchctl load -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/org.mongodb.mongod.plist If this is an upgrade and you already have the org.mongodb.mongod.plist loaded: launchctl unload -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/org.mongodb.mongod.plist cp /usr/local/Cellar/mongodb/1.6.3-x86_64/org.mongodb.mongod.plist ~/Library/LaunchAgents launchctl load -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/org.mongodb.mongod.plist Or start it manually: mongod run --config /usr/local/Cellar/mongodb/1.6.3-x86_64/mongod.conf but after i copy org.mongodb.mongod.plist to ~/Library/LaunchAgents, it tells me launchctl load -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/org.mongodb.mongod.plist launchctl: Couldn't stat("/Users/liuqiang/Library/LaunchAgents/org.mongodb.mongod.plist"): Not a directory and also i can not cd "~/Library/LaunchAgents", but i can ls the directory! • how to serve php files on a Apache server (localhost) running Coldfusion/MySql?

    - by frequent
I'm still learning my ways around on my localhost server, whih is running Apache 2.2, Coldfusion8 and MySQL Server 5.5 (on Windows XP). I need to work on a site I inherited, which also ran some PHP scripts under the same setup. I have installed PHP5 on my localhost, but when I open a dummy page with: <?php phpinfo();?> I only get plain text returned, so I guess I haven't configured Apache correctly to also serve PHP (while defaulting to Coldfusion). Question: Where do I need to get started if I want PHP to work on my current setup, too? Is there something I need to add to the httpd.conf file? If possible I don't want to uninstall/reinstall everything, because it took forever to get everything to work (excluding php). Thanks for any pointers!

How should I change my configuration to run both the apps in different environments. Let's assume app2 is suppose to run with RAILS_ENV=qa and app1 with RAILS_ENV=demo

  • Downgrading httpd on centos4 with yum

    - by Echo
A server currently has httpd-2.0.63-2.el4s1.centos.2 installed (from the centosplus repo) but that version is missing some security updates. Where as httpd-2.0.52-49.ent.centos4 is a lower version, but it does have recent security updates. So I need to downgrade. It looks like the only way would be to remove it and then install 2.0.52. Would this mess up any configurations? Should I backup all the conf files first?
