  • Running multiple versions of Firefox [migrated]

    I've been reading this: http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/797010#answer-193690 But it looks like it only applies to running multiple versions of Firefox when it's Firefox 4. I need to run Firefox but it seems like a lot of my clients are still running versions of Firefox 3 (is this an operating system issue? Doesn't Firefox auto-update?) so I need to run 3 plus the latest version to troubleshoot some css issues...

  • Why does Ubuntu 12.04 dual boot fail?

    Fresh install of XP followed by a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04 results in the following error: error: unknown filesystem. grub rescue and the machine will not boot. Prior to the 12.04 install, XP worked fine. During the 12.04 install, all partitions and free space was visible, and the install seemed to complete without issues until the error message. Although I can fix the MBR via recovery console in XP and allow the machine to boot to windows, why is GRUB/Ubuntu trashing the boot sequence?

    Thanks to Phoronix there seems to be a fix for the power regression/overheating bug in the Linux Kernel 3.0.1 bouncing around on the Internet. However this supposed fix which I read has been patched to the Kernel in a testing phase is not newbie-friendly (if you know what I mean).   • Slow Internet / Can't change brightness on 2010 Macbook AIr running 12.10 Ubuntu

    The title really says it all. I haven't been able to change the brightness of my monitor since putting Ubuntu on it. I started off with 12.04 and then decided to see if 12.10 would fix the issue. The internet is also a fair bit slower than I am used to, especially when downloading. Apart from these two issues, everything goes very smoothly. If anyone could offer any advice or solutions, I would be very grateful.

    I've read that it can be dangerous for your computer to try to run Ubuntu and that the safest option is to run it on an external hard drive. Is this true? (I don't want to run it through a Virtual Machine.) I would prefer to dual boot it, given that my hard drive has so much space.
