  • Change Visual Studio Default Browser in an ASP.NET MVC project

    - by Kirschstein
FireFox is set to my Windows default browser. I want to change the default browser used by Visual Studio for debugging. Normally the route I'd take to do this is right clicking on an .aspx file and setting the default from the Browse With... dialog. Unfortunately, ASP.NET MVC Views don't have the Browse With... option. What other ways can you set the default browser for ASP.NET MVC projects? Related, but NOT ASP.NET MVC Specific: Visual Studio opens default browser instead of IE

    - by erwin
hi, I have a request to load a swf file, flaMovie.swf from rails. The swf file is located the directory /home/user1/railsproj/flash. I have the code index.rhtml under view directory to show the .swf file, ID=flaMovie WIDTH=250 HEIGHT=250 When I ran the code, I got the error, ActionController::RoutingError (No route matches "/home/user1/railsproj/flash/flaMovie.swf" with {:method=:get}): /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/routing.rb:1441:in recognize_path' /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/routing.rb:1424:inrecognize' /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/dispatcher.rb:170:in handle_request' /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/dispatcher.rb:115:indispatch' /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/dispatcher.rb:126:in dispatch_cgi' /vendor/rails/actionpack/lib/action_controller/dispatcher.rb:9:indispatch' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.1.5/bin/../lib/mongrel/rails.rb:76:in process' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.1.5/bin/../lib/mongrel/rails.rb:74:insynchronize' My rails project is located in /home/user1/railsproj and the web server is Mongrel web server. How to specify the path in the rhtml file so that Mongrel server is able to locate the file? Thanks a lot,

  • How to uninstall a Fire fox add-on that doesn't want to be uninstalled?

    - by Fellknight
Let's say I installed a program, called "E" . Said program requests to install a Firefox add-on. Now the add-on doesn't work due to being incompatible. Because it came with E i uninstall E planning to re-install it with out the add-on, but after the E uninstall finishes the add-on is still there in Firefox, disabled and with the buttons grayed out. Moreover, Firefox displays the "Restart Firefox to uninstall this add-on" message but no matter how many times it's restarted the loop wont end. Is there any way to uninstall E's add-on?

  • FTP v/s SFTP v/s FTPS

    - by susmits
We're setting up a web server at our workspace. In conjunction, we're planning to install an FTP server, however I'm stuck at what protocol to employ -- FTP, SFTP or FTPS. I googled around, trying to see what protocol offers what, coming across articles like this, but I can't make up my mind. Only simple, once-in-a-while file transfer is desired; however, security is a concern since the file server is intended to be accessible from the internet. What protocol is the most apt for my use, and why?

  • Processing potentially large STDIN data, more than once

    - by d11wtq
I'd like to provide an accessor on a class that provides an NSInputStream for STDIN, which may be several hundred megabytes (or gigabytes, though unlikely, perhaps) of data. When I caller gets this NSInputStream it should be able to read from it without worrying about exhausting the data it contains. In other words, another block of code may request the NSInputStream and will expect to be able to read from it. Without first copying all of the data into an NSData object which (I assume) would cause memory exhaustion, what are my options for handling this? The returned NSInputStream does not have to be the same instance, it simply needs to provide the same data. The best I can come up with right now is to copy STDIN to a temporary file and then return NSInputStream instances using that file. Is this pretty much the only way to handle it? Is there anything I should be cautious of if I go the temporary file route?

  • Creating GPT partitions on EFI raw disk using diskpart

    - by kafka
I've got a raw, blank GPT disk for use in a UEFI system. I need to create the partitions on it using diskpart. The only tutorial I've found so far is for diskpart.efi, which I believe is slightly different from the command-line diskpart. MS guide to GPT partitions with diskpart.efi Also the guide says to create a MSR of 32MB, but for a disk= 16GB I know it needs to be 128MB. I'm happy doing it with diskpart, just want to be sure I understand the fundamentals. I'm planning on installing, in this order: ESP partition, size 102 MB (create partition esp size=102) MSR partition, size 128 MB (create partition msr size=128) data partition, the remaining space (approx 460GB) Is this the correct thing to do, or is there anything I'm missing?

  • MySQL LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE example in python?

    - by David Perron
I am looking for a syntax definition, example, sample code, wiki, etc. for executing a LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE command from python. I believe I can use mysqlimport as well if that is available, so any feedback (and code snippet) on which is the better route, is welcome. A Google search is not turning up much in the way of current info The goal in either case is the same: Automate loading hundreds of files with a known naming convention & date structure, into a single MySQL table. • Entry Level Programming Jobs with Applied Math Degree

    - by Mark
I am about to finish my B.Sc. in Applied Math. I started out in CS a few years back had a bit of a change of heart and decided to go the math route. Now that I am looking for career options finishing up and I'm just wonder how my Applied Math degree will look when applying for programming jobs. I have taken CS courses in C++/Java/C and done 2 semester of Scientific Computing with MATLAB/Mathematica and the like, so I feel like i at least know how to program. Of course I am lacking some of the theoretical courses on the CS. I'd very much like to know how I stack up for a programming job as a math major. Thanks.

  • Need advise on choosing aws EC2

    - by Mayank
I'm planning to host a website where in the first phase I would target 30,000 users. It is in php and runs on Apache server. I'm assuming 8,000 users can be online in worst case scenario and 1000 of them will be uploading photographs. A photograph will be resized to around 1MB at client side and one HTTP request is uploading only one photograph. My plan: 2 Small EC2 instances to run Apache httpd 2 Small EC2 instances to DB (Postgresql). I to write data and other its read replica. EBS volumes for DBs Last, Amazon S3 for uploaded photographs. My question here Is Small EC2 instance more than what I require. I mean should I go for micro Is 8000 simultaneous user a right no. (to decide what EC2 instance to choose) for a new website Or should I go for Small instance so to make it capable of spikes

  • Changing Recovery Model in Replicated Database

    - by Rob
I now am the proud owner of two servers that replicate with each other. I had nothing to do with the install, but (of course), now i have to support the databases. Both databases are in the Simple recovery model, but the users want to ensure as little data loss as possible so I'm thinking that I should change the recovery model over to full and start doing transaction log backups. I wasn't planning on backing up the subscribing database, only the publisher. Is this the right plan? Do I need to switch both the Subscriber and and the publisher to Full, or can I leave the subscriber in Simple, but have the Publisher in Full? When I change the recovery model in one (or both) do the databases need to be offline? Thanks

  • Learning Ruby on Rails

    - by Ethan Gunderson
As it stands now I'm a Java and C# developer, but the more and more I look at Ruby on Rails, the more I really want to learn it. What have you found to be the best route to learn RoR? Would it be easier to develop on Windows, or should I just run a virtual machine with linux? Is there an ide that can match the robustness of Visual Studio? Any programs to develop that give a good overhead of what to do? Any good books? Seriously, any tips/tricks/rants would be awesome.

  • Amazon EC2 migration from one region to the other

    - by Gnanam
I'm using the following Amazon EC2 resources in the US East (Virginia) region: 1 Running Instance 1 Elastic IP 2 EBS Volumes 100 EBS Snapshots 1 Key Pair 2 Security Groups 5 My Own AMIs (customized based on my application stack) My instance is based on Linux distribution (CentOS) and my AMIs are S3-backed. Both EBS volumes are mounted on this running instance. We're planning to migrate our deployment to US-West region. Because Amazon EC2 resources are not shared across regions, my questions are: What are all the factors that I need to consider in advance? What are all the recommended & different ways of migrating each EC2 resources from one region to the other? Are there any hidden risks involved during and/or after the migration? Experts ideas/suggestions/recommendations on this are highly appreciated.

  • Windows 8 cloned drive in 2nd computer

    - by Mark
I did the Windows 8 Pro upgrade machine w/ 64GB SSD. Finding 64GB not enough, I ordered a 128 GB SSD (Samsung 830) while planning to use CloneZilla to clone the Windows 8 OS to it. I might try using the 64GB SSD (with the Windows 8 upgrade on it) as a boot drive in a backup machine. I understand that I need to do some registry work to make it happy about the SSD 'transplant,' but I am worried about having to register the same activation key on 2 computers. Am I at high risk of getting 'deactivated'? Note that the backup machine is only used when primary computer is off.

  • Howto allow "Illegal characters in path" ?

    - by hbruce
I have a MVC.NET application with one route as follows: routes.MapRoute("member", "member/{id}/{*name}", new { controller = "member", action = "Details", id = "" }, new { id = @"\d+" }); Thus, a link could be something like this: http://domain/member/123/any_kind_of_username This works fine in general but if the path contains illegal characters (e.g. a double qoute: http://domain/member/123/my_"user"_name) I get a "System.ArgumentException: Illegal characters in path." After much googling the best suggestions seems to be to make sure that the url doesn't contain any such characters. Unfortunately, that is out of my control in this case. Is there a way to work around this?

  • Rails "Load more..." instead of pagination.

    - by Joseph Silvashy
I have a list of elements, and I've been using will_paginate up until now, but I'd like to have something like "load more..." at the bottom of the list. Is there an easy way to accomplish this using will_paginate or do I need to resort to some other method here? From what I know this is a better route anyhow because then I don't need a SQL count of the records. And it really doesn't matter if there are like 9,847 pages, nobody would need the records beyond the first couple pages anyhow.

  • Utilize different region format for a single application on Mac OS X

    - by Jeff Hellman
Is there a way to have a single Mac OS X application utilize a different region format than the system default? For example, I'd like to keep my system operating in English with US date formats but have my lesson planning software utilize French date formats. If I put my entire computer into French mode, I get the desired results, but I'd rather keep my entire system in US mode and have the Planbook application work with French region formats. I know about Language Switcher but that only allow per-app selections of localizations to be used, not which date format to use. I don't care about having the French localization of Planbook appear, I just want the date format to be French.

  • Rails 3.1 assets not recognizing new images uploaded by rmagick until server restart

    - by Mr_Nizzle
I have my Rails 3.1.0 application running with passenger in production environment and I have a section where the application allows the user to change his profile picture so I upload the image using an ajax uploader and in my controller I upload the file and generate different sizes for the image with rmagick then I render the new image with an image_tag but the application won't show the image till I restart the server. What I get is No route matches [GET] "assets/path/to/image.png" If I restart the server It will show the image, but obviously I can't be restarting the server every once a user uploads a new image. How can I solve the keeping the assets working the right way?

  • Disposing of Objects with long living dependencies

    - by Ray Booysen
public class ABC { public ABC(IEventableInstance dependency) { dependency.ANewEvent += MyEventHandler; } private void MyEventHandler(object sender, EventArgs e) { //Do Stuff } } Let us say that an instance of ABC is a long living object and that my dependency is an even longer running object. When an instance of ABC needs to be cleaned up, I have two options. One I could have a Cleanup() method to unsubscribe from the ANewEvent event or I could implement IDisposable and in the Dispose unwire the event. Now I have no control over whether the consumer will call the dispose method or even the Cleanup method should I go that route. Should I implement a Finaliser and unsubscribe then? It feels dirty but I do not want hanging instances of ABC around. Thoughts?

  • router propogation usng OSPF

    - by liv2hak
I am using Juniper J-series routers to emulate a small telco and VPN customer.I need to use OSPF so that the path to each internal subnet is propogated to all PE nodes. The network topology is given below. To achieve this I am planning to run the following commands in UOW-TAU and UOW-HAM. set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface ge-0/0/0 set protocols ospf area 0.0.0.0 interface lo0.0 Do I need to do any additional configuration in TAU-PE1 and HAM-PE1 routers for it to receive the OSPF paths.? I am a beginner at the routing.Any help is appreciated.

  • VirtualBox in production?

    - by MrG
I'm planning to move a service which is currently powered by Debian into a VirtualBox. That would allow us to easily port it i.e. to a faster machine if required. The setup would be: debian host > Virtual Box #1 > debian instance #1 running Apache & application > Virtual Box #2 > debian instance #2 containing database Do you have any experience with a production setup based on Virtual Box? Is it stable and fast enough? Many thanks!

  • TLS-SRP ciphersuites support in browsers

    - by dag
i'm doing some research on how browsers support TLS-SRP (RFC5054). I know that TLS-SRP is implemented in GnuTLS, OpenSSL as of release 1.0.1, Apache mod_gnutls, cURL, TLS Lite and SecureBlackbox. I don't find any fresh source of information, only this from 2011: http://sim.ivi.co/2011/07/compare-tls-cipher-suites-for-web.html I'm testing them manually at the moment, but as far as i know nobody seems to support it. My interest is then in understanding if browsers are planning to support these ciphersuites in the future, apart from the current state. Actual findings (i'm sorry i can't include more than 2 links): Firefox: BugZilla bug id: 405155 IE: Microsoft connect Bug ID:788412 , date:22/05/2013 (closed) Chromium/Chrome: the interesting work by quinn slack http://qslack.com/2011/04/tls-srp-in-chrome-announcement/ Chromium code review: 6804032 Any other help?

  • Network architecture when using Rackspace's Cloud

    - by brianz
I'm planning on launching a web application soon, and have decided on using Rackspace's Cloud offering with Debian. I'm not expecting that much traffic to start, but would rather get the architecture correct now even with the small VPSs. The thing I'm not quite sure about is how many VPSs I should get. At a minimum, I know I'll want three VPSs: Two Apache webservers One server for MySQL I'd also like: Nginx load balancer MySQL replication memcached I'm not sure where those last three processes should be running. Can the load balancer run on the same machine as the MySQL slave, or should they each run on their own machine? Does memcached run alongside the webservers or on different machines?

  • Can I have HTTPS and HTTP for a single instance of an application?

    - by Sivakanesh
I'm planning a web application that will have its own server behind the corporate firewall. There will be two sets of users, internal and external to the organisation. Internal users will be located inside of the firewall as same as the application server and the external users are outside over the internet. All users will be authenticated via a login by the web application. I would like a setup where the external users will be required to access whole of the application using SSL and the internal users via standard http connection. I would like to know, if it is possible to setup a single instance the application so that it can be accessed via SSL for external (over the internet) users AND over http for internal users? Thanks

  • using the data-custom="" to bind to events

    - by Dean Peterson
    I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get slammed on this. I love using the data-whatever attribute to bind events to. It feels very clean to me and helps reserve my class attribute for just styling. I know this selector is among the slowest, so I don't use it when there are a lot of elements. Would love to hear compelling arguments against this. $("body").delegate("[data-action]", "click", function(){ var action = $(this).attr("data-action"); //route action to appropriate function });

  • NetFlow Storage Calculator

    - by javano
I am planning to deploy a NetFlow server (using NfSen/NfDump) for harvesting data from Cisco devices; Are there standard calculations or guidelines I can use to calculate my server requirements, specifically I need to plan for storage. Is there a way of knowing how much data I will collect per day for example, given N flows? Lets say one device has 10k flows per day, this is typically XYZ MBs, so I can scale this up? If not, how many flows are you guys and girls recording per day, and how much data is this generating? Hopefully we can generate an estimate from everyone else's figures! P.S. If it makes a difference, I'll be collecting from <= 50 devices max (non more than 50Mbps each).
