I plan to go to tafe sometime next year to get my diploma but want to start myself. instead of learning asp.net as a whole and all the languages involved such as c#, html css and javascript etc etc. I'm starting to think a solid understanding of at lest one of these might be beneficial I have "Beginning C# Object-Oriented Programming - Clark - Apress, is it worth learning about the languages before I go head first into a ide?.

<b>Montana Linux:</b> "I recorded them with a Samsung SC-MX20 which is a very inexpensive / budget rig. The sound quality is fair to good considering the camera does not have the ability to use an external mic. The video quality is fair to good considering that most of the rooms had the lights turned off for viewing projected presentation slides."

Ive written about collection initializers on my blog before, but I thought Id catch up with the VB Team to tell me more about how they really work. In this interview Spotty Bowles, a tester on the VB Compiler team, shows us a couple of new language features: Array and Collection Initializers. He gives us insight into how they are implemented in the compiler and best practices on how to use them in our code. Additionally, he discusses how to extend Collection Initializers with your own extension...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? I have been working with a bunch of custom timer jobs for last month. Basically, I'm processing a bunch of SharePoint items from the timer job and since I don't want the job failing because of an error on one item, so I'm handing errors on an item-by-item basis and just continuing on with the next item. The net result of this, I soon found, is that my timer job actually says it ran successfully even if every single item fails. So I figured I would just set the "Failed" status on the timer job is anything went wrong so an administrator could see that not all was well. However, I quickly found that there is no way to set a timer job status. If you want the status to show up as "Failed" then the only way to do it is to throw an exception. In my case, I just used a flag to store whether or not an error had occurred, and if so the the timer job throws a an exception just before existing to let the status display correctly.
If you have tried Sharepoint discussion boards, you already know that you cannot offer a PROPER forum experience with it. It's still very primitive and it will take considerable time and effort you to extend and customize.Fortunately I found that there are some third party solutions, and Lightning Storm Forum is a very nice alternative. I'ts not free but not that expensive either. You can try it for free and can have a proper forum running in your website withing less than an hour :)http://lightningtools.com/products/storm-forums/
