    - by zac
    I am creating a background color animation with jQuery and the color animation plugin http://plugins.jquery.com/project/color How do I have a function stay in a loop repeating itself each time it has finished running? I tried this but it did not work : $(document).ready(function(){ function colorLoop(){ $("#window") .animate({ backgroundColor: "orange" }, 11000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "yellow" }, 1000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "green" }, 1000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "blue" }, 1000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "indigo" }, 1000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "violet" }, 1000) .animate({ backgroundColor: "red" }, 1000, colorLoop); }; });

  • jquery callback functions failing to finish execution

    - by calumbrodie
    I'm testing a jquery app i've written and have come across some unexpected behaviour $('button.clickme').live('click',function(){ //do x (takes 2 seconds) //do y (takes 4 seconds) //do z (takes 0.5 seconds) }) The event can be triggered by a number of buttons. What I'm finding is that when I click each button slowly (allowing 10 seconds between clicks) - my callback function executes correctly (actions x, y & z complete). However If I rapidly click buttons on my page it appears that the function sometimes only completes up to step x or y before terminating. My question: Is it the case that if this function is fired by a clicking second DOM element, while the first callback function is completing - will jQuery terminate the first callback and start over again? Do I have to write my callback function explicitly outside the event handler and then call it?? function doStuff() { //do x //do y //do z ( } $('button.clickme).live('click',doStuff()) If this is the case can someone explain why this is happening or give me a link to some advice on best practice on closures etc - I'd like to know the BEST way to write jQuery to improve performance etc. Thanks

  • Browser compatibility jQuery UI dialog

    - by Brian
    I have a jQuery Dialog box on one of my pages. One of the buttons in the dialog boxes triggers a JavaScript prompt OnClick. Everything seems OK with the lastest versions of Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox, but some users are reporting weird behavior. Are there any known browser compatibility errors with jQuery UI dialog boxes?

  • jquery event handler- trigger function upon specific key and action

    - by Gal
    Background story: when a user selects a portion of text in a text field with her mouse (mark it up manually), and subsequently hits "alt" key, a certain function would trigger. My questions are: How can I trigger a function when a user hits a key (in her keyboard)? How can I preserve a portion of text selected, and use it as a parameter for that function? I've tried looking up online but haven't found any good answers, but i'd greatly appreciate links as well.

  • JavaScript/jQuery: Follow path over page

    - by Echilon
    I need to make an animated gif 'fly over a page and follow a path. I'm thinking of using jQuery but would I be right in thinking the only way to do it is manually calculating the percentage of width/height where the shape layer should be placed, then using absolute positioning is the only way to do this? I know there are some amazing jQuery plugins available for this type of thing.

  • $.ajax working with Firefox, not IE

    - by Isamtron
    Hello, I have a jQuery code to allow users to login using a lightbox (http://colorpowered.com/colorbox/) and immediately start downloading files, without being redirected or having the page reloaded. It's perfectly working in Firefox but Internet Explorer keeps showing the login box until I reload the page :( <? if (!$this->session->userdata('user_logged_in')): ?> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('a[href^="/link/"]').click(function(event){ var status = $.ajax({ url: "/status", async: false }).responseText; if (status != 'USER_LOGGED_IN') { $.fn.colorbox({href:"/login"}); event.preventDefault(); } }); }); </script> <? endif ?> Your help would be greatly appreciated.

  • jQuery .live() not working.

    - by Silvio Iannone
    Hi there, my actual problem is that .live() jQuery method is not working. This si the code where i use it: jQuery.fn.sb_animateMenuItem = function() { var mousehoverColor = '#0089F7'; var duration = 250; return this.each(function() { var originalColor = $(this).css('background-color'); $(this).live('mouseover', function() { this.style.cursor = 'pointer'; $(this).animate().stop(); $(this).animate( { backgroundColor: mousehoverColor }, duration); }); $(this).live('mouseout', function() { this.style.cursor = 'default'; $(this).animate( { backgroundColor: originalColor }, duration); }); }); }; This snipped is used i another page in this way: <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/jquery-1.4.2.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/color.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="engine/js/tiny_mce/tiny_mce.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="ui/js/ui.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> // UI effects $(document).ready(function() { $('button').sb_animateButton(); $('input').sb_animateInput(); $('.top_menu_item').sb_animateMenuItem(); $('.top_menu_item_right').sb_animateMenuItem(); $('.left_menu_item').sb_animateMenuItem(); }); </script> Since my site uses AJAX requests i used the .live method in the first snippet, but when i load the page the effects are not applied the the button/input... tags. If i remove the .live method and use the 'normal' way, ui effects defined in the first snipped are applied but only the the elements loaded before any AJAX request. The elements loaded after the ajax request are not affected by first snippet (though they have the same selector). Thanks for helping.

  • Jquery - Check for bad words on form submit?

    - by Probocop
    Does anybody know of a good Jquery solution to checking for swear words when a form is submitted? Basically I have a form which submits to Twitter, upon successfully passing a swear word check it will submit via ajax. I know how to do it in PHP (for non javascript enabled users), I did a foreach loop through an array of predefined bad words and checked them against what was submitted. How would I do a similar thing with Jquery? Thanks
