  • Connection to mysql works through php but not through a form submission?

    - by Legend
I have a download.php file that connects to a remote mysql database. If I run it using php download.php it works fine. But if I create another php file form.php and then submit the form to this download.php, it complains the following: Can't connect to MySQL server on '<IP_ADDRESS>' (13) Does anyone know why this might be happening? I can't see a reason why this works directly but fails to work upon form submission...

  • Why are member constants available even if there are no instances of a its class?

    - by flockofcode
    1) Why are member constants available even if there are no instances of a its class? 2) Is the only reason why constant expressions need to be fully evaluated at compile time due to compiler replacing constant variable with literal value? 3) Since string is also an object, I would think the following would produce an error, but it doesn’t. Why? class A { const string b = “it works”; } thank you

    - by hardcoder
I am facing an issue while dividing a double with an int. Code snippet is : double db = 10; int fac = 100; double res = db / fac; The value of res is 0.10000000000000001 instead of 0.10. Does anyone know what is the reason for this? I am using cc to compile the code.

  • domain name vs ip address, same server, but different speed

    - by bn
I have two similar sites: - two of them have almost exactly the same codes, and running on the same server - both sites are the same, they just use different language. - database of the slower site is populated (maybe only the user table) the other tables for site content is the same - the faster uses root to access database one of the sites is not released yet, so it uses IP Address to access the site instead of domain name the site that is using IP address is faster (lot faster) the site that is using domain name is slower do you know why is this happening what could be the reason?

  • Air applicationUpdater: updates every run, should be once a day

    - by artie
I use the applicationUpdater framework with an Air application. The delay property is set (in AS code) to 1 day. However, the application checks every time it is run: the delay property seems to be ignored. Does any one know where last run time is stored, so I can check if there's a reason it can't seem to remember ;-) the app is at http://muchoswing.com/cantoyo

  • what's the use of 0 in wait system call?

    - by Supereme
Hi, The syntax for the wait system call is pid= wait(&var) where pid is the process id of child and var is the variable which will contain the reason for exiting child. But what happens when we use wait((int *)0)? What does it exactly mean? Thank you.

  • running a python script on a remote computer

    - by Richard
Hello all, I have a python script and am wondering is there any way that I can ensure that the script run's continuously on a remote computer? Like for example, if the script crashes for whatever reason, is there a way to start it up automatically instead of having to remote desktop. Are there any other factors I have to be aware of? The script will be running on a window's machine.

  • Internet Explorer treating AJAX GET request as POST request?

    - by Matt Huggins
For some reason, only in IE (tried 7 & 8), jQuery is performing a POST request when it should be a GET. See below: function(...) { /* ... */ $.ajax({ type: 'GET', dataType: 'script', url: '/something/' + id, processData: false, data: 'old_id=' + oldId, success:function(data) { alert(data); } }); /* ... */ } All browsers properly GET, but IE is performing a POST. Why?

  • Is the Google Annotations Gallery useful in production code?

    - by cafe
    I could actually see a use for the Google Annotations Gallery in real code: Stumble across code that somehow works beyond all reason? Life's short. Mark it with @Magic and move on: @Magic public static int negate(int n) { return new Byte((byte) 0xFF).hashCode() / (int) (short) '\uFFFF' * ~0 * Character.digit ('0', 0) * n * (Integer.MAX_VALUE * 2 + 1) / (Byte.MIN_VALUE >> 7) * (~1 | 1); } This is a serious question. Could this be used in an actual code review?

  • Is it alright to call len() in a loop's conditional statement?

    - by DormoTheNord
In C, it is considered bad practice to call strlen like this: for ( i = 0; strlen ( str ) != foo; i++ ) { // stuff } The reason, of course, is that it is inefficient since it "counts" the characters in a string multiple times. However, in Python, I see code like this quite often: for i in range ( 0, len ( list ) ): # stuff Is this bad practice? Should I store the result of len() in a variable and use that?

  • Is there a simple PHP development server?

    - by pinchyfingers
When writing web apps in Python, it brain dead easy to run a development server. Django and Google App Engine both ship with simple servers. The main feature I'm looking for is no configuration. I want something like the GAE dev server where you just pass the directory of the app as a parameter when the server is started. Is there a reason that this is more difficult with PHP?
