  • New to Ubuntu - 12.04.1 Kernel Panic on Installation

    I'm a complete Ubuntu and even Linux newbie. I'm learning here, so I'm grateful for any info to help me learn more about this. I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with a Pentium 4 and 1GB of RAM. It's older but it's only going to be doing some small stuff for me when I get it up and going. I've tried installing several versions of Linux (but I really, really want Ubuntu) and I keep getting a similar kernel panic message. The problem is I don't have a clue what that means or how to begin fixing it. I would appreciate any help to get my machine up and going. I have already tried Installing alternate Ubuntu versions Burning multiple 12.04.1 disks Installing other versions of Linux I have a picture of the screen to share; however, I can't post due to the fact that I don't have enough reputation points on this forum because I'm a newbie. I would be happy to email you a pic, if you think you can help.

    I have an idea for an application (+usage scenario) and I would like to create an animated cartoon that shows a use case for this application and its novelty. My company is a rather big so I am looking for an interesting way to get people know my idea to get feedback/get a green light to further develop it. Therefore I am looking for an application (free or commercial) that I could use to realize such an animated cartoon.   • Show list items specific to user sharepoint

    Hi all, In my project i have a asset list which contains "request to download" link. In the same list there is "download link" column which is default empty. Now when any user clicks on request to download link a workflow is activated and it will send request to approver to approve or reject the download request. If approver accept the request then the "download link" column in the asset list will be updated by some URL which redirect user to download page. Now what happen is, if user A send request to download asset to approver and approver approves it this will update respective item in asset list and put a download URL in "Download Link" column but if user B get look for the same record in asset list the download link will be visible to this user too which is wrong. I want to display download link columns value to only those user whos request has been approve. FYI: I am using WSS 3.0 Can anyone help me what should be the best approch to do this...?   • Securely automount encrypted drive at user login

    An encrypted /home directory gets mounted automatically for me when I log in. I have a second internal hard drive that I've formatted and encrypted with Disk Utility. I want it to be automatically mounted when I login, just like my encrypted /home directory is. How do I do this? There are several very similar questions here, but the answers don't apply to my situation. It might be best to close/merge my question here and edit the second one below, but I think it may have been abandoned (and therefore never to be marked as accepted). This solution isn't a secure method, it circumvents the encryption. This one requires editing fstab, which necessitates entering an additional password at boot. It's not automatic like mounting /home. This question is very similar, but does not apply to an encrypted drive. The solution won't work for my needs. Here is one but it's for NTFS drives, mine is ext4. I can re-format and re-encrypt the second drive if a solution requires this. I've got all the data backed up elsewhere.

  • No sound after installing a new Graphics Card

    I've just upgraded my graphics card to an Asus Geforce 210 and now my system has no sound. I've ran Update Manager and the Additional Drivers utility which installed the latest Nvida driver. The graphics card is connected to my TV via a DVI-to-HDMI (DVI at the PC end) cable for the visual connection, and an audio jack from my onboard soundcard for my audio connection. Any ideas on how to resolve this? I ran this command ubuntu-bug audio And it outputted this: You seem to have configured PulseAudio to use the "pci-0000_05_00.1" card, while you want output from "NFORCE - NVidia CK804". I've tired a bit of messing about with the audio settings but can't get anything to work.

  • Touchpad stops working when plugging in new laptop PSU

    I recently bought a psu for my Compaq 6710b and when I plug it in to the laptop the touchpad seems to go stop working, especially when the laptop is charging. I checkout this site and it suggests that the problem might be static electricity building up due to poor earthing.I tried replacing the cable that leads from the psu to the wall socket with the one I had of my old psu but to no avail. I even tried to see if I put the psu farther away might reduce to interference but also resulted in failure. Any ideas on how I could solve this problem?

We will soon announce a change in the way that Oracle certification candidates receive their exam scores and score reports (after they take an exam). Once the change occurs you will need to have an Oracle Web Account (in order to access your exam score). This is the account that is used to log into the Oracle website for things such as OTN access, software downloads and other Oracle services. If you already have an Oracle Web Account then you are already in good shape!   • Unable to boot Ubuntu with new Kernel but it works fine with old kernel

    I recently acquired a Samsung Series 9-900x3c and installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on it. Now I wanted to upgrade to the most recent kernel and after grabbing the packages from kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and installing them via dpkg Ubuntu fails to boot. I can select the appropriate Kernel version in grub but when I try to launch the Ubuntu with kernel 3.6 nothing happens. On the other hand Kernel 3.2.x works fine for me. Any suggestions what I can do to use the most recent Kernel? Thanks a lot in advance. Cheers JO

  • how to get new site indexed by alexa

    When I search my site on alexa, it says "Alexa Traffic Rank: No Data". So I google the issue. I come across this page: http://www.loudable.com/my-website-data-not-showing-in-alexa-get-your-website-crawled-by-alexasolution.html It says to get site indexed, click Crawl my site on the webmasters page. However there is no longer a link that says "Crawl my site". So as of now, does anyone know how to get site indexed by alexa so that my traffic rank will display on alexa index?

  • Computer Won't Boot After New Power Supply

    I recently bought a Rosewill 750-M PSU to replace an Antec Earthwatts 500. My computer worked fine before making the switch. After installing the Rosewill PSU, I attempted to boot. Fans spun up for a second, then turned off. After a second, they spun up again and stayed on. However, I had no video output. I put the old Antec PSU back in, and still had the same problem. I put another GPU in the computer, trying both PSUs, and still nothing. I switched out the monitor also, which didn't work. What should I do?
