• binlog_format = STATEMENT and CURRENT_TIMESTAMP with MySQL replication

- by xma
Hi, can a MySQL slave instance have different row values for the same ID when binlog_format is set to STATEMENT and we insert something like: insert into foo values(CURRENT_TIMESTAMP) As I understand it, the slave read the SQL statement and execute it thus, if the replication is lagging, could lead to differences for the same row. Right or wrong ? How can I avoid this situation ? Thank you.

• What is DEFAULT_CC in function declaration?

- by humoeba
I'm relatively new to C, and am curious what this syntax means in a function declaration: int DEFAULT_CC foo(void) where DEFAULT_CC is probably defined somewhere else as: #define DEFAULT_CC "cc" Is this a direction to use a certain compiler or something?

• Is there a neater way to get the first occurrence of something?

- by Phil H
I have a list which contains a number of things: lista = ['a', 'b', 'foo', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'bar'] I'd like to get the first item in the list that fulfils a predicate, say len(item) > 2. Is there a neater way to do it than itertools' dropwhile and next? first = next(itertools.dropwhile(lambda x: len(x) <= 2, lista)) I did use [item for item in lista if len(item)>2][0] at first, but that requires python to generate the entire list first.

• do you call them functions, procedures or methods?

- by lowlyintern
consider a standard c# 'function' public void foo() { //some code } In c or c++ this is called a 'function' - even if taking no parameters and returning no value. In another language maybe it would be a 'procedure'. In object orientation speak it would be called a 'method' if a class member. What would be the correct term to use in c#?

• Which is the fastest idiomatic way to add all vectors (in the math sense) inside a Scala list?

- by davips
I have two solutions, but one doesn't compile and the other, I think, could be better: object Foo extends App { val vectors = List(List(1,2,3), List(2,2,3), List(1,2,2)) //just a stupid example //transposing println("vectors = " + vectors.transpose.map (_.sum)) //it prints vectors = List(4, 6, 8) //folding vectors.reduce { case (a, b) => (a zip b) map { case (x, y) => x + y } } //compiler says: missing parameter type for exp. function; arg. types must be fully known }

• Regex issue in rewriter config

- by sgbinks
I'm having an issue with bad requests from certain search parameters. An example URL: http://www.foo.com/washington/forums/search/%26 Results in a bad request. The rewriter config line looks like this: <rewrite url="^(.*)/forums/search/(.*)" to="~/Pages/Forums/Overview.aspx?Address=$1&q=$2" processing="stop" /> I'm thinking it's an issue with the Regex...? Thanks in advance!

• Determining if types alias to the same underlying type in C++

- by emchristiansen
I'd like to write a templated function which changes its behavior depending on template class types passed in. To do this, I'd like to determine the type passed in. For example, something like this: template <class T> void foo() { if (T == int) { // Sadly, this sort of comparison doesn't work printf("Template parameter was int\n"); } else if (T == char) { printf("Template parameter was char\n"); } } Is this possible?

• How to define custom exception class in Java, the easiest way?

- by yegor256
I'm trying to define my own exception class the easiest way, and this is what I'm getting: public class MyException extends Exception {} public class Foo { public bar() throws MyException { throw new MyException("try again please"); } } This is what Java compiler says: cannot find symbol: constructor MyException(java.lang.String) I had a feeling that this constructor has to be inherited from java.lang.Exception, isn't it?

• Is there a "method_missing" for rake tasks?

- by James Wenton
If my Rakefile does not find a task with a particular name, I'd like rake to instead create a new task by that name according to certain rules, if a file with the missing task name exists. But if it doesn't, I want to fall back to the default ("Don't know how to build task 'foo'!"). In short, is there a method_missing for Rake?

• strstr and occurrences to match

- by Mike
I have several possible occurrences to test with strstr. if ((a = strstr(string, "FOO")) != NULL || (a = strstr(string, "BAR")) != NULL || (a = strstr(string, "FOO2")) != NULL ||(a = strstr(string, "BAR2")) != NULL || (a = strstr(string, "FOO3")) != NULL ||(a = strstr(string, "BAR3")) != NULL) // do something and then based on the occurrence found I need to do var = strlen("THE_ONE_MATCHED_ABOVE"); What would be a good way to do this without using lots of if statements?

• Storing a type in C++

- by perimosocordiae
Is it possible to store a type name as a C++ variable? For example, like this: type my_type = int; // or string, or Foo, or any other type void* data = ...; my_type* a = (my_type*) data; I know that 99.9% of the time there's a better way to do what you want without resorting to casting void pointers, but I'm curious if C++ allows this sort of thing.

• Url rewriting : prevent to display xml

- by Frank
Edit : I've got an aspx file (default.aspx) that loads a flash file (index.swf), but this swf needs a xml file (foo.xml) to load correctly. However, I would like to block any request aiming directly at the xml file. Is it possible, using a rewritting engine (isapi_rewrite for example) to detect if the xml file is being 'hotlinked' or being loaded by the 'index.swf'(inside default.aspx)? Any ideas? Thank you.

• ListView: Display data divided into groups?

- by jawonlee
I would like to display the contents of a DataTable, divided into several groups depending on the value of one of the columns. So, if I have a DataTable (from SQL query) with: GroupID Name Description 1 foo bar 1 one two 2 some thing I would like to place all records containing GroupID 1 in one div, all records with GroupID 2 in another div, and so on. How can I do this? I'm writing in ASP.NET 4.0, with C# codebehind.

• Regular expression to match text that doesn't start with substring?

- by Steven
I have text with file names scattered throughout. The filenames appear in the text like this: |test.txt| |usr01.txt| |usr02.txt| |foo.txt| I want to match the filenames that don't start with usr. I came up with (?<=\|).*\.txt(?=\|) to match the filenames, but it doesn't exclude the ones starting with usr. Is this possible with regular expressions?

• Thread safety with heap-allocated memory

- by incrediman
I was reading this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thread_safety Is the following function thread-safe? void foo(int y){ int * x = new int[50]; /*...do some stuff with the allocated memory...*/ delete x; } In the article it says that to be thread-safe you can only use variables from the stack. Really? Why? Wouldn't subsequent calls of the above function allocate memory elsewhere?
