• How do I not show files on the main screen

  Ok, so I upgraded to 12.10 and have been trying out Unity, my screen has become a complete mess of folders and files. "Back in the day" the folders that were on my screen were the ones shown in the .Desktop directory now it seems like all the files in my login directory are there (that is a lot of files) Is there some way to set the files being diplayed to come from a specific directory? if so how? I think I've gone through every panel of the system settings application.

• A problem with installing skype

  I recently got a 9,04 version of ubuntu and for the past day i was trying to install skype ( sounds funny i know ) and when I write 'sudo apt-get install skype' I get this error in the terminal The following packages have unmet dependencies: skype: Depends: libqt4-dbus (>= 4.4.3) but 4.4.0-1ubuntu5~hardy1 is to be installed Depends: libqt4-network (>= 4.4.3) but 4.4.0-1ubuntu5~hardy1 is to be installed Depends: libqtcore4 (>= 4.4.3) but 4.4.0-1ubuntu5~hardy1 is to be installed Depends: libqtgui4 (>= 4.4.3) but it is not installable How could I fix this problem? • external monitor can't display max resolution

  I had been using an external monitor, an old Dell Inc. 19" with Ubuntu 14.04 for a while now, The resolution it displayed at was something like 1366x768 or 1366x1024, I can't remember exactly which one it was. However, one day when I restarted my computer, I can no longer get that resolution on the external display, and can now display a max resolution of 1024x768. Does anyone know why this might happen all of a sudden? I think it was after running a system update.

  As in the subject-line. Saw the situation the other day on a page which felt weird to me. Except for markup-delimiting characters such as pointy brackets or the ampersand, escaping, say, German umlauts shouldn't be necessary, should it? Checked the encoding server-side, in-page and by way of HTTP headers, looks completely UTF-8 to me. What's your take on this and do you reckon it could adversely affect SEO or SERP placement?the page

• 12.04 display resolution changes after each reboot

  I am running 12.04-64bit on a Dell xps15z and the resolution changes after each reboot to 1024x768 .As a result my desktop occupies just 3/4 of my entire screen...I have to manually adjust it through the display option to the max 1366x768 in order for the desktop to occupy the whole display!If you add this to the "system problem detected" that pops up every day I cannot hide my dissatisfaction and frustration about 12.04...
