I am about to start developing an Android application and had a question if in Java there self naming. For instance say I had a variable named dog that held the value of scruffy.
Could I then create a variable named scruffy from that variable. In PHP it would be $$dog. That would make a variable with the name scruffy.
If this is possible please provide example
Hi all,
I have an android application that utilizes another project as a project reference. i've gone into the application options, build path, and then selected the project in project references.
everything builds and deploys fine, but when i try to run the application and instantiate a class in that project, i'm getting a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError errrrrr.
i'm no java project expert, so i assume i've cocked something simple up. any ideas?
where to add the new GUI xml pages in android project, say I have a welcome screen in reslayoutmain.xml layout and when user clicks "next" button, it has to load up a new page with username and password GUI. any help will be appreciated
Hi,
i've developed an android app that's fetches an xml file and displays this data via several markers on the map. This works fine so far.
The problem right now is that when i switch the orientation of the phone (portrait-landscape or vice versa) the markers disappear for a small moment, the xml processing is started again and then they reappear.
Is there a way to prevent this re-loading of the file? It only takes about 2-3 seconds..so no big deal, but still disturbing
I have downloaded the android source code (1.5 Gb and appx. 5 Gb after extracting).My intention is to compile this.
1) Do i need a toolchain for arm ..if yes which one will be suitable.
2) to run simulator and to be able to debug on workstation do i need to have any specific PC -linux toolchain .
We have subversion setup with http access through apache at http ://svn.local/ This provides access through svn clients and the standard svn repository browser. We also have a separate repository browser installed at http ://svn-browser.local/ (fisheye in this case).
Is it possible to change the subversion/apache server so that browser requests are redirected to the subversion browser, but requests from svn clients go to the subversion server? Essentially, I'd like to use a single URL to identify a resource in both svn clients and the svn browser and be able to copy the url from a svn client into a web browser to have the enhanced functionality provided by the browser.
I am developing an Android app, it will connect to the internet to load some data back.
I tested it with WIFI and it works well. But when I switched to use EDGE/GPRS, it always timed out, I have set a big timeout parameter for httpclient, but it did not help.
Anyone have experienced this before?

Hi,
Could someone explain in technical details how an android application handles updates ? . What kind of information does the application usually needs to send to request an update , and what does it receives back ? .
I'm running Win XP 64bit and am connecting a Motocliq to my computer. The device is recognized by windows and shows up in the device manager (Motorola ADB Interface), however when I try to install drivers (manually, from the usb_driver revision 3 provided by Android) it fails giving the error "The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software."
Does anyone else have experience installing this drivers on XP64bit/Motocliq?
Team,
I am facing some issue at the time of parsing the XML, but the same works in Java program... When I run the same code through android prgming its failing to parse...
InputStream byteArrayInputStream = new ByteArrayInputStream(
response.toString().getBytes());
SAXParser parser = SAXParserFactory.newInstance().newSAXParser();
parser.parse(byteArrayInputStream, xmlHandler);
Facing the following error
DTD handlers aren't supported
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ramesh
I usually need to deal with things on a page right before switching to yet another page, this ranges from "liking / upvoting a comment or post" up to "an important action" and doesn't always come with feedback on whether the action actually proceeded.
This is a huge problem! I assume the action to proceed once I start the particular AJAX request, but because I switch to another page it didn't actually happen because the AJAX request got aborted. This has left me several times with coming back to the page and seeing my action didn't take place at all; to give you an idea how bad this is, this even happened once when commenting on Super User!
Is there a way to tell my browser to not drop these AJAX connections but simply let them finish?
Is there a way to determine the audio format of an audio file in Android? On normal java I do it like this:
File file= new File(...);
AudioInputStream stream = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(file);
AudioFormat format= stream.getFormat();
Hi,
I have a Android class extending Application to generate some global classes, etc.
It works, in that I can, for example, get the context, etc.
BUT, when I try this:
row = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.list_row_text);
I get
R.id.list_row_text = Class not loaded : <mypackage>.R$id
Any ideas why this is happening?
Thanks
Gerardo
I'm looking to get a device (phone, tablet, etc.) for developing Android applications. I know I can use the emulator to get me started, but I feel like that will only get me so far along. I'm looking for something reasonably priced, and I don't want a phone contract, data plan, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?
This is a simple question about getting started with developing Android apps using Eclipse. I have followed all the tutorials on the developer site for installing Eclipse, the SDK and the ADT plugin. When trying to run a simple Hello World program, everything seems to compile correctly, but then the virtual machine comes up empty. In the Console Window it reads:
The program then just sits and my text never comes up. Any idea with what the problem could be?
In Android, how can I apply a style to an API action?
I am using the RingtoneManager.RINGTON_PICKER action to let the user select an alarm, and would like to apply the standard theme that the other child-activities use.
Does anyone know how I can apply a theme? The code I'm using to open the RINGTONE_PICKER is
Intent intent = new Intent(RingtoneManager.ACTION_RINGTONE_PICKER);
((Activity)mContext).startActivityForResult(intent, BackendConstant.RINGTONE_CODE);

Hi,
I am writing an Android app, part of which will be a survey involving multiple pages of checkbox question and answers. I have created an activity to display the question and options (from the DB) and what I want to do now is when i press the "Next" button it should just reload the current activity with the next question set from the database.
(the activity starts with survey.getNextQuestion() - so its just a case of refreshing the activity so it updates)
Im sure this is a simple thing to do -any ideas?
Thanks
Does anyone have any good pointers on designing the UI for an android application and some good practises?
Obviously I'm aware of the basic principles involved with designing the layout in XML. Also, that you have a stack of activities. But I'm interested in some approaches to creating the interfaces and also how to design an application around those intentions.
