  • Good Word HTML cleaner?

    There are a ton of utilities for cleaning the html produced by Word. Some are online services and some are Windows desktop apps. Does anyone have good experience with any? I am looking for one that does a very good job of maintaining the layout and text styles of the original document. The people using the tool know very little or no html which means they can't be spending time doing html editing to fix the layout.

    Hello. Tune2fs allows to change inode size from default 128 bytes to almost anything (but it should be power of two). What can the the reasons of changing default inode size? Here http://kbase.redhat.com/faq/docs/DOC-7433 is written, that this can be done to be able to store ACL attributes inside inodes. What else can be stored inside inode? May be some other attributes? Or anything else? Is there any reason to increase inode size on modern high-capacity drives (2TB and more)?

So instead of trying to find it somewhere, I'd like to use an Open Source alternative instead. Nice to have: * iPhoto library importer * Facebook exporter * Exporter for other online photo apps I'm NOT looking for a pure online-based service.   • How to fix broken IIS on Windows 7

    how can I fix broken IIS on Windows 7 ? Deinstalling it via "Windows Features" doesn't help. Apparently it doesn't uninstall IIS completely so on my subsequent attempts to install it installer hangs and I can see in Process Explorer that it keeps trying to launch svchost.exe -iis for 10 mins and then gives me error message. Reinstalling whole Windows with all apps would take me another 3 days :/ Please help.

  • Spreadsheet formula: lowest 100 values in a range

    Is there any way I could sum up the lowest 100 values within a range? I know that min() would give you the lowest value but i need something to return the 100 lowest values. I just used 100 hypothetically to make it easier to understand what I'm trying to achieve. I can use any of the following spreadsheet apps: Openoffice.org, Excel or Google Spreadsheets -- whichever works. Thanks a lot!!!

  • downgrade PHP 5.3 to 5.2 on lenny

    Unfortunately I did upgrade PHP to version 5.3, but it end up breaking up some web apps, now I'm trying to go back to 5.2. I removed both sources php53.dotdeb.org from /etc/apt/sources.list and I did apt-get update && apt-get upgrade, but it didn't downgrade anything. Any ideas on how to go back will be appreciated Thanks

  • running localhost mta vs. php smtp'ing via 3rd party api

    so the question is, would it be "better" to run localhost mta (ie. postfix) or "better" to use 3rd party restful api, embedded in the application, to send email? i am curious what people would do here. i find postfix on linux allows much greater flexibility and control. the default sendmail/postfix logging (/var/log/maillog) suits me fine, and you can even set limits via iptables on per uuid's which allows rate-limiting apps.

What are some good applications for viewing large files? Bonus points for apps that can open compressed files, search for things with regular expressions, parse output lines, etc.

  • Quickly switch Win7 volume normalization on/off?

    Is there some way to quickly toggle the state of volume normalization in Windows 7? When it's off watching movies late is tricky, and when it's on it messes with music in a bad way. It's a great feature, but argh, it requires me to make my way through so many dialogs... Any solution that requires no more than a couple of clicks or keystrokes is welcome - shortcuts, AutoHotkey, tray icon apps.

    I'm building a home office and looking for the ultimate desk. Lot's of resources about the great desk chairs, but very little on great modern desks. Requirements: $1000-$2000. Straight. No side cabinets. Attractive. Electric adjustable would be nice, but I haven't found very attractive looking one.   • Performance difference between compiled and binary linux distributions/packages

    I was searching a lot on the internet and couldn't find an exact answer. There are distros like Gentoo (or FreeBSD) which does not come with binaries but only with source code for packages (ports). The majority of distros uses binary backages (debian, etc.). First question: How much speed increase can I expect from compiled package? How much speed increase can I get from real world packages like apache or mysql? i.e. queries per second? Second question: Does binary package means it does not use any CPU instructions that was introduced after first AMD 64bit CPU? With the 32bit packages does it mean that the package will run on 386 and basically does not use most of the modern CPU instructions? Additional info: - I am not talking about desktop, but server environment. - I dont care about compile time - I have more servers, so speed increase more than 15% is worth for using source code packages - Please no flamewars.     I have a rails app on an old Ubuntu server I need to move onto a new machine. I haven't worked with ruby on rails so I don't really know anything about the structure of the app. I want to load this onto an Ubuntu 8.04 AMI on Amazon EC2 and am looking for any information regarding the migration process such as: Do I copy over the entire folder defined as the application root in the mongrel config (for ex: /u/apps/myapp/current) or just certain folders?     This question was originally on SO but it was closed since it is considered off topic. I am interested to build a mail service that allows you to incorporate custom logic in the your mail server. For example, user A can reply to [email protected] once and subsequent emails from user A to [email protected] will not go through until certain actions are taken. I am looking for something simple and customizable, preferably open-sourced. I am fluent in most modern languages. What email servers do you guys recommend for this? Mailgun looks promising, but are there any simpler options?

  • Why are there hard faults when my RAM is not 100% used?

    I've got 2GB of RAM and the resource monitor shows that it's only used about 75%. However there are some apps (NetBeans, Visual Studio) that every once in a while start making a lot of hard faults (up to and over 2000/min), thus predictably slowing down to a crawl. How is this so? The memory usage during these "fits" doesn't change. Perhaps it also includes memory mapped files or something?

  • Importing photoimpact .ab3 file database into another album program

    I have Photoimpact Album v5 which has now maxed out at 65,000 photos with database information. I can export the database and file information to a csv or dbase 4 file but I cannot find any way to import the information to a competative Photo Organization/Database product like Adobe Lightroom, ACDSee Pro3 or Photo Collector, etc... which is more modern, will work on Vista/Windows7, and not have any file limitations. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really cannot reinput data information for 65,000 photos manually. I would use any good software that I can transfer my files and data ifno to.

  • Change Windows 7 start menu height depending on monitor size?

    I know I can change the height of the Windows 7 Start Menu so that includes more or fewer recently used apps, etc. But I have a netbook with a tiny screen that I plug into a decent sized LCD most of the time at home. Is there a way to get Win7 to use a taller Start menu with more items when I'm using the LCD and a shorter Start menu with fewer items when using the netbook's built in screen? (I'm a programmer so capable of technical solutions if there's no ready-made solution.)
