  • How can I use encryption with Gmail?

    - by Torben Gundtofte-Bruun
I'm currently reading Cory Doctorow's novel Little Brother which includes a part about encrypted messaging, and even wrapping messages first in my private key and then your public key. I'd like to play around with that but from what I've googled so far it seems to be a rather convoluted process, requiring installing several program components, and creating an encrypted message requires doing some manual file manipulation. I'm surprised that I can't find something like a Firefox plugin that integrates encryption into Gmail. I've seen that there is a Thunderbird PGP plugin, but I don't use T-bird. I also saw a blog post that Google apparently toyed with PGP support in 2009, but nothing has appeared in the meantime. Question: To use encryption with Gmail, is there a simpler method than creating a file locally, then encrypting that file, and finally attaching it to a regular Gmail message?

  • NTP daemon or ntpdate doesn't synchronize

    - by user2862333
    I'm having some problems with synchronization with an NTP server. 1) The NTP daemon doesn't sync the system clock at all, even though it's running (confirmed with /etc/init.d/ntp status). Forcing to sync with ntpd -q or ntpd -gq does not work either. 2) Stopping the NTP daemon and syncing manually with ntpdate does give me the following output: ~# ntpdate -d 0.debian.pool.ntp.org 6 Nov 16:48:53 ntpdate[4417]: ntpdate [email protected] Sat May 12 09:07:19 UTC 2012 (1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) transmit(79.132.237.5) receive(79.132.237.5) transmit(85.234.197.2) receive(85.234.197.2) transmit(194.50.97.34) receive(194.50.97.34) transmit(79.132.237.1) receive(79.132.237.1) server 79.132.237.5, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.5], delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3b1.f490b90d Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:50:09.955 originate timestamp: d624e457.eaaf787c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:55.916 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.4a7036fd Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.290 filter delay: 0.08537 0.05141 0.05151 0.06346 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6038 235.6087 235.6095 235.6068 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05141, dispersion 0.00145 offset 235.608782 server 85.234.197.2, port 123 stratum 2, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [85.234.197.2], delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e3e7.dc6cd02b Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:51:03.861 originate timestamp: d624e458.1c91031f Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.111 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.7da1d882 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.490 filter delay: 0.05765 0.07750 0.06013 0.05151 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6048 235.6014 235.6035 235.6078 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05151, dispersion 0.00336 offset 235.607826 server 194.50.97.34, port 123 stratum 3, precision -23, leap 00, trust 000 refid [194.50.97.34], delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624e38d.2bce952c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:33.171 originate timestamp: d624e458.4dbbc114 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.303 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.b0d38834 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.690 filter delay: 0.03030 0.03636 0.03091 0.03021 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6095 235.6085 235.6098 235.6105 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.03021, dispersion 0.00090 offset 235.610589 server 79.132.237.1, port 123 stratum 3, precision -20, leap 00, trust 000 refid [79.132.237.1], delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 transmitted 4, in filter 4 reference time: d624dfcb.6acea332 Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:33:31.417 originate timestamp: d624e458.838672ad Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:52:56.513 transmit timestamp: d624e36c.e405181c Wed, Nov 6 2013 16:49:00.890 filter delay: 0.06345 0.05113 0.05681 0.05656 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 0.00000 filter offset: 235.6087 235.6038 235.6010 235.6074 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.05113, dispersion 0.00305 offset 235.603888 6 Nov 16:49:00 ntpdate[4417]: step time server 79.132.237.5 offset 235.608782 sec Clearly, ntpdate can reach the NTP server(s), but after checking the clock, it hasn't changed and is still displaying the wrong time. Any ideas what would be the problem would be much appreciated.

  • Setting the secure flag on cookies from Outlook Web Access

    - by Cheekysoft
I'm running Exchange 2007 SP3 which is exposing outlook web access over only HTTPS. However the server delivers the sessionid cookie without the secure flag set. Even though I don't have port 80 open, this cookie is still vulnerable to being stolen over port 80 in the event of a man-in-the-middle attack. It also contributes to a PCI-DSS failure Does anyone know if I can persuade the web server/application to set the secure flag?

  • Hooking up a multifunction printer via network and USB

    - by C-dizzle
I have a Dell 2155CDN Multifunction printer that is hooked up through our network. But when using the scan feature, it is terribly slow, and I assume it has something to do with it scanning through the network port. Is it possible to leave the printer hooked up across the network, but also attach it to a computer via USB just for the scanner? Or would doing this confuse the printer not knowing which port to use for each feature?

Thanks in advance.

  • Any Suggestions on How to Soup Up/ Mod a MacBook Pro 13"?

    - by 5arx
So I've got a mid-2009 MacBook Pro 13". Integrated GPU so not a games machine but fast enough for doing .Net development in VMs. I love the little thing and wanted to give it a Christmas present so thought I'd mod it up a bit and give it a boost. I'm probably going to go for a 500GB Seagate Momentus XT hybrid drive rather than full-on SSD (I need 500GB space) but was wondering if there are any other mods/tweaks people could suggest? I saw something online about swapping a HDD for the DVD drive and wondered if anyone had tried this or similarly drastic mods to the smallest of the MBPs. Cheers.

  • Filtering Client IP from Access Log for Urchin

    - by Ram Prasad
I have some apache logs to process, and since the webserver behind two levels of reverse proxies, I am getting two IPs in the X-Forwarded-For header.. for example: 208.34.234.55, 127.0.0.1 - - [29/Oct/2009:21:38:13 -0500] "GET /monkey.html HTTP/1.0" 200 20845 0 0 "http://www.monkey.com/" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.15) Gecko/2009101601 Firefox/3.0.15 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)" Now, how do I filter this in Urchin (or remove this in Apache logging) so, 127.0.0.1 is removed from processing. Currently urchin is not able to recognize the multuple IP address so it does not log the remote IP

  • Windows Server 2008 firewall rules order problem

    - by vnuk
I have one rule that opens FTP port for all connections. I have second rule that blocks ALL connections on ALL protocols for some IP's. However, connections from those IP's that are blocked can still connect to FTP port because that rule obviously takes preccedence. How can I make this work, because I do not see how can I adjust order of rules on Windows Firewall.

  • after install python 2.7.3 yum is broken

    - by user468587
i installed libxml2-2.9.0 and libxslt-1.1.27 then yum is broken any yum command that i ran i got the result of : There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: No module named yum Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. It's possible that the above module doesn't match the current version of Python, which is: 2.4.3 (#1, Jan 21 2009, 01:11:33) [GCC 4.1.2 20071124 (Red Hat 4.1.2-42)] If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to the yum faq at: http://yum.baseurl.org/wiki/Faq then i thought python version is way too old and install python 2.7.3 and install it from scratch, after some wrong trials it got worse and worse, now when i run 'python -V' i got version 'Python 2.7.3', when i run '/usr/bin/python -V', it returned 'python-2.4.3-24.el5', and no matter what i did the yum is still broken with that message. how can i get yum back? my os is: linux 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I'm thinking of swapping out the stock 5400rpm HD with a faster hybrid drive (has 4GB RAM and spins at 7200rpm) but was wondering if any of you had tried or knew of anything else I could change/upgrade/mod to squeeze more out of my laptop. Before you answer though, please be aware that I'm not sure I can run to putting in the 8GB of RAM Apple have suggested :-( Thanks in advance.

Is there a way to somehow catch all invalid URLs and send the user to a certain page I am using PHP Thanks so much! error file is already in .htaccess but seems nothing going to change you can see the error file as below AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5s .php ErrorDocument 404 /content/404.php <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> RewriteEngine on RewriteBase / here are 2 different url one the first one is old one which i edited and the secound one is edited one #1 old one (which is no longer on the server) http://adsbuz.com/vehicles-cars/toyoya/2009-toyota-land-cruiser-gxr-4686.htm #2 the editet one which is on the server http://adsbuz.com/vehicles-cars-for-sale/toyoya/2009-toyota-land-cruiser-gxr-4686.htm i need only the secound one with the vehicles-cars-for-sale because the other directory is already modified and its not on the server but as you can see after the (adsbuz) site name vehicles-cars and vehicles-cars-for-sale both are opening for same location I hope I made myself clear

  • Do I need a Gigabit router with a 24Mbps down and 7Mbps upload speed cable modem?

    - by djangofan
Do I need a Gigabit port capable wireless router with a 24Mbps down and 7Mbps upload speed cable modem? Does anyone know how to calculate this? FYI, I wont be using the wireless connection from my main computer system. My computer will connect via a hard wire into the router (of the wireless variety), which in turn is connected to the cable modem. My research suggests that the 100 Mbps port can easily handle it. Is that true?

  • Why would anacron not be running?

    - by Rory
I have a Ubuntu system that has anacron installed. However I'm pretty sure it's not running. It's not running the commands in /etc/cron.daily to rotate the syslog files (I'm using sysklog, which has its own rotating log method, not using logrotate). The last time the logs were rotated were in October 2009. /var/spool/anacron/cron.daily exists and the contents are 20091015. AFAIR we had a power outage then, and everything rebooted. How can I debug anacron? How can I see why it's not running? My first instinct is to look for /var/log/anacron, but that's not there. How can I fix it to make it run again?

  • remastering knoppix: which version and what method should i use

    - by Stan_
I'd like to remaster knoppix (mainly add and configure some software). I downloaded newest version (KNOPPIX-ADRIANE_V6.2CD-2009-11-18-EN.iso) but later i read that it has some other window manager as default, not kde... and i want to have kde on my remaster. Is kde included on that iso but it's not default or it's not included at all? If it's not there what knoppix version should i get for my remaster? My other question... I've seen some remastering scripts (with menus, etc) on knoppix forums, do any of these works with version i have? Or with version i should have if i need kde?

    - by Stefano Borini
Provocative question, but in any case, this is what it would appear... unless there's some other reason, of course. In my cystat wordpress log, I obtained the following entry IP Browser OS Date Method Type URL 127.0.0.1 Safari 419.3 iPhone July 30, 2009 7:39 pm GET BLOG /blog/ The IP address is the IP of the visiting client. It's clear that this is not possible. Why do I get 127.0.0.1 as IP? cystat bug? some weird network trick I am not aware of? or is my website really running on an iPhone, and the guy at the applestore is reading my blog ?

  • Trying to get DNS services running on Windows Server 2008 R2, what am I getting wrong ?

    - by LaserBeak
Ok, So I am basically trying to get a home server pc up that will provide Domain name services, act as Mail server and web server. I have one static IP, well it's not officially static but hasn't changed in two years so I'll call it static. I have done the following: Configured router NAT/virtual port forward UDP/TCP port 53 to the internal IP of my server 192.168.1.16, in adapter settings specified the manual settings: 192.168.1.16 IP, gateway 192.168.1.1, Subnet: 255.255.255.0 and loopback DNS: 127.0.0.1 Using my public my public IP Checked using http://www.canyouseeme.org/ that port 53 is open and is not being blocked by my ISP. It can see services on this port. Registered Domain name (mydomain.com.au) Updated whois database through the domain registrars site and registered NameServer names: ns0.mydomain.com.au and ns2.mydomain.com.au, both have been associated with my single public IP. (Waited 24 hours) Update the nameserver for mydomain.com.au: primary ns0.mydomain.com.au secondary: ns2.mydomain.com.au (waited 24+ hours) Installed Server 2008 R2, install web server role and DNS role. Webserver works when I enter my public IP into browser of any PC/mobile, get IIS7 welcome page. In DNS server: Created new forward lookup zone: ; ; Database file mydoman.com.au.dns for mydomain.com.au zone. ; Zone version: 10 ; @ IN SOA mydomain.com.au. mydomain.testdomain.com. ( 10 ; serial number 900 ; refresh 600 ; retry 86400 ; expire 3600 ) ; default TTL ; ; Zone NS records ; @ NS ns0.mydomain.com.au. @ NS ns1.mydomain.com.au. ; ; Zone records ; @ A 192.168.1.16 www A 192.168.1.16 The Domain name services will however not work, the whois database updated with ns0.mydomain.com.au etc. but when I type in my site name www.mydomain.com.au from an external machine it will not open site and I can't even ping it (Can't find host) When I check the ns0.mydomain.com.au NS record using a tool Like: http://www.squish.net/dnscheck/ I get: Security: Server ns0.mydomain.com.au (XXX.XXX.XXX.XX <- my public IP) is recursive Domain exists but there is no such record Any ideas, thanks...
