  • How to get REALLY fast python over a simple loop

    - by totallymike
    I'm working on a spoj problem, INTEST. The goal is to specify the number of test cases (n) and a divisor (k), then feed your program n numbers. The program will accept each number on a newline of stdin and after receiving the nth number, will tell you how many were divisible by k. The only challenge in this problem is getting your code to be FAST because it k can be anything up to 10^7 and the test cases can be as high as 10^9. I'm trying to write it in python and having trouble speeding it up. Any ideas? import sys first_in = raw_input() thing = first_in.split() n = int(thing[0]) k = int(thing[1]) total = 0 i = 0 for line in sys.stdin: t = int(line) if t % k == 0: total += 1 print total

  • Attaching functions to elements in a loop

    - by user435377
    I have the following HTML and JavaScript it works for the first set of elements when I have a '1' in the selector but when I replace the '1' with an 'i' it doesn't attach itself to any of the elements. Any ideas as to why this might not be working? (the script is meant to add the first 3 columns of each row and display it in the fourth) <html> <head> <script src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ for (i = 2; i <= 14; i++) { $("#Q19_LND_"+i).keyup(function(){ $("#autoSumRow_"+i).val(Number($("#Q19_LND_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_CE_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_SOLSD_"+i).val())); }); $("#Q19_CE_"+i).keyup(function(){ $("#autoSumRow_"+i).val(Number($("#Q19_LND_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_CE_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_SOLSD_"+i).val())); }); $("#Q19_SOLSD_"+i).keyup(function(){ $("#autoSumRow_"+i).val(Number($("#Q19_LND_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_CE_"+i).val()) + Number($("#Q19_SOLSD_"+i).val())); }); } }); </script> </head> <body> <table> <tr> <td><font face="arial" size="-1">Lap Roux-N-Y</font>&nbsp;</td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="1" type="text" name="Q19_LND_1" size="3" value="" id="Q19_LND_1"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="2" type="text" name="Q19_CE_1" size="3" value="" id="Q19_CE_1"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="3" type="text" name="Q19_SOLSD_1" size="3" value="" id="Q19_SOLSD_1"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="4" disabled type="text" name="autoSumRow_1" size="3" value="" id="autoSumRow_1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td nowrap width="1" bgcolor="#006699" colspan="9"><img src="/images/wi/nothing.gif" width="1" height="1"></td> </tr> <tr> <td><font face="arial" size="-1">Lap Esophagectomy</font>&nbsp;</td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="5" type="text" name="Q19_LND_2" size="3" value="" id="Q19_LND_2"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="6" type="text" name="Q19_CE_2" size="3" value="" id="Q19_CE_2"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="7" type="text" name="Q19_SOLSD_2" size="3" value="" id="Q19_SOLSD_2"></td> <td align="center"><input tabindex="8" disabled type="text" name="autoSumRow_2" size="3" value="" id="autoSumRow_2"></td> </tr> <tr> </table> </body> </html>

  • laravel multiple where clauses within a loop

    - by user1424508
    Pretty much I want the query to select all records of users that are 25 years old AND are either between 150-170cm OR 190-200cm. I have this query written down below. However the problem is it keeps getting 25 year olds OR people who are 190-200cm instead of 25 year olds that are 150-170 OR 25 year olds that 190-200cm tall. How can I fix this? thanks $heightarray=array(array(150,170),array(190,200)); $user->where('age',25); for($i=0;$i<count($heightarray);i++){ if($i==0){ $user->whereBetween('height',$heightarray[$i]) }else{ $user->orWhereBetween('height',$heightarray[$i]) } } $user->get(); Edit: I tried advanced wheres (http://laravel.com/docs/queries#advanced-wheres) and it doesn't work for me as I cannot pass the $heightarray parameter into the closure. from laravel documentation DB::table('users') ->where('name', '=', 'John') ->orWhere(function($query) { $query->where('votes', '>', 100) ->where('title', '<>', 'Admin'); }) ->get();

  • list in loop, Nonetype errors

  • JavaScript - Loop over all a tags, add an onclick to each one

    - by tripRev
    I've got a list of links that point to images, and a js function that takes a URL (of an image) and puts that image on the page when the function is called. I was originally adding an inline onlick="showPic(this.getAttribute('href'))" to each a, but I want to separate out the inline js. Here's my func for adding an onclick to each a tag when the page loads: function prepareLinks(){ var links = document.getElementsByTagName('a'); for(var i=0; i<links.length; i++){ var thisLink = links[i]; var source = thisLink.getAttribute('href'); if(thisLink.getAttribute('class') == 'imgLink'){ thisLink.onclick = function(){ showPic(source); return false; } } } } function showPic(source){ var placeholder = document.getElementById('placeholder'); placeholder.setAttribute('src',source); } window.onload = prepareLinks(); ...but every time showPic is called, the source var is the href of the last image. How can I make each link have the correct onclick?

  • Counting substring, while loop

    - by user1554786
    public class SubstringCount { public static void main(String[] args) { Scanner scan = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter a word longer than 4 characters, and press q to quit"); int count = 0; while (scan.hasNextLine()) { System.out.println("Enter a word longer than 4 characters, and press q to quit"); String word = scan.next(); if (word.substring(0,4).equals("Stir")) { count++; System.out.println("Enter a word longer than 4 characters, and press q to quit"); scan.next(); } else if (word.equals("q")) { System.out.println("You have " + count + ("words with 'Stir' in them")); } else if (!word.substring(0,4).equals("Stir")) { System.out.println("Enter a word longer than 4 characters, and press q to quit"); scan.next(); } } } } Here I need to print how many words entered by the user contain the substring 'Stir.' However I'm not sure how to get this to work, or if I've done any of it right in the first place! Thanks for any help!

  • Loop through Array with conditional output based on key/value pair

    - by Daniel C
    I have an array with the following columns: Task Status I would like to print out a table that shows a list of the Tasks, but not the Status column. Instead, for Tasks where the Status = 0, I want to add a tag <del> to make the completed task be crossed out. Here's my current code: foreach ($row as $key => $val){ if ($key != 'Status') print "<td>$val</td>"; else if ($val == '0') print "<td><del>$val</del></td>"; } This seems to be correct, but when I print it out, it prints all the tasks with the <del> tag. So basically the "else" clause is being run every time. Here is the var_dump($row): array 'Task' => string 'Task A' (length=6) 'Status' => string '3' (length=1) array 'Task' => string 'Task B' (length=6) 'Status' => string '0' (length=1)

  • Javascript for loop efficiency

    - by Misha Moroshko
    Is for (var i=0, cols=columns.length; i<cols; i++) { ... } more efficient than for (var i=0; i<columns.length; i++) { ... } ? In the second variant, is columns.length calculated each time the condition i<columns.length is checked ?

  • Looping Through Database Query

    - by DrakeNET
    I am creating a very simple script. The purpose of the script is to pull a question from the database and display all answers associated with that particular question. We are dealing with two tables here and there is a foreign key from the question database to the answer database so answers are associated with questions. Hope that is enough explanation. Here is my code. I was wondering if this is the most efficient way to complete this or is there an easier way? <html> <head> <title>Advise Me</title> <head> <body> <h1>Today's Question</h1> <?php //Establish connection to database require_once('config.php'); require_once('open_connection.php'); //Pull the "active" question from the database $todays_question = mysql_query("SELECT name, question FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active") or die(mysql_error()); //Variable to hold $todays_question aQID $questionID = mysql_query("SELECT commentID FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active") or die(mysql_error()); //Print today's question echo $todays_question; //Print comments associated with today's question $sql = "SELECT commentID FROM approvedQuestions WHERE status = active"; $result_set = mysql_query($sql); $result_num = mysql_numrows($result_set); for ($a = 0; $a < $result_num; $a++) { echo $sql; } ?> </body> </html>

  • Using varible in re.match in python

    - by screwuphead
    I am trying to create an array of things to match in a description line. So I cant ignore them later on in my script. Below is a sample script that I have been working on, on the side. Basically I am trying to take a bunch of strings and match it against a bunch of other strings. AKA: asdf or asfs or wrtw in string = true continue with script if not print this. import re ignorelist = ['^test', '(.*)set'] def guess(a): for ignore in ignorelist: if re.match(ignore, a): return('LOSE!') else: return('WIN!') a = raw_input('Take a guess: ') print guess(a) Thanks

  • Why does the order of the loops affect performance when iterating over a 2D array? [closed]

    - by Mark
    Possible Duplicate: Which of these two for loops is more efficient in terms of time and cache performance Below are two programs that are almost identical except that I switched the i and j variables around. They both run in different amounts of time. Could someone explain why this happens? Version 1 #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> main () { int i,j; static int x[4000][4000]; for (i = 0; i < 4000; i++) { for (j = 0; j < 4000; j++) { x[j][i] = i + j; } } } Version 2 #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> main () { int i,j; static int x[4000][4000]; for (j = 0; j < 4000; j++) { for (i = 0; i < 4000; i++) { x[j][i] = i + j; } } }

  • Calculations on the iteration count in for loop in Ruby 1.8.7

    - by user1805035
    I was playing around with Ruby and Latex to create a color coding set. I'm more than a novice with C++, but haven't looked at Ruby until now. So, still learning a lot of coding. I have the following block of code below. When attempting to run this, band1 = 1e+02. I've tried band1 = (BigDecimal(i) * 100).to_f thinking maybe there was some odd floating point issue. This is just me trying anything though as an integer multiplied by an integer should create an integer, if I'm still thinking correctly. I've tried a variety of other things as well (things that I can do in C++, but this ain't C++), but to no avail. (1..9).each do |i| #Band 1 (0..9).each do |j| #Band 2 (0..11).each do |k| #Band 3 #Band 3 Start #these are the colors of the resistor bands b1 = $c_band12[i] b2 = $c_band12[j] b3 = $c_band3[k] b4 = "Gold" oms = ((i*100) + (j*10)) * $mult[k] band1 = i*100 band2 = j band3 = $mult[k] end end end Not sure what I'm missing. Should I be using .each_with_index through these iterations? I've tried this: (1..9).each_with_index {|i, indexi| #Band 1 (0..9).each_with_index {|j, indexj| #Band 2 (0..11).each_with_index {|k, indexk| #Band 3 #Band 3 Start #these are the colors of the resistor bands b1 = $c_band12[i] b2 = $c_band12[j] b3 = $c_band3[k] b4 = "Gold" oms = ((i*100) + (j*10)) * $mult[k] band1 = indexk * 100 and I get the same answer. I can't see why 1*100 should equate to such a large number? Thank you, AT

  • Simple loop, which one I would get more performance and which one is recommended? defining a variable inside a loop or outside of it?

    - by Grego
    Variable outside of the loop int number = 0; for(int i = 0; i < 10000; i++){ number = 3 * i; printf("%d",number); } or Variable inside of the loop for(int i = 0; i < 10000; i++){ int number = 3 * i; printf("%d",number); } Which one is recommended and which one is better in performance? Edit: This is just an example to exhibit what I mean, All I wanna know is if defining a variable inside a loop and outside a loop means the same thing , or there's a difference.

  • Generating new tasks in a foreach loop

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I know from the codeing guidlines that I have read you should not do for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { Task.Factory.StartNew(() => Console.WriteLine(i)); } Console.ReadLine(); as it will write 5 5's, I understand that and I think i understand why it is happening. I know the solution is just to do for (int i = 0; i < 5; i++) { int localI = i; Task.Factory.StartNew(() => Console.WriteLine(localI)); } Console.ReadLine(); However is something like this ok to do? Task currentTask = myFirstTask; currentTask.Start(); foreach (Task task in _TaskList) { currentTask.ContinueWith((antecendent) => { if(antecendent.IsCompleated) { task.Start(); } else //do error handling; }); currentTask = task; } } or do i need to do this? Task currentTask = myFirstTask; foreach (Task task in _TaskList) { Task localTask = task; currentTask.ContinueWith((antecendent) => { if(antecendent.IsCompleated) { localTask.Start(); } else //do error handling; }); currentTask = task; }

  • C input loop for shell

    - by AustinM
    So I'm working on creating a very simple C program that just preforms shell commands. This is what I have so far: #include <stdio.h> int main() { char input[30]; fputs("$ ", stdout); fflush(stdout); fgets(input, sizeof input, stdin); system(input); } It works, but only for one command. For example if I compile and type ./cmd I get the $ prompt. If I type ls I get what I'm supposed to get. But then it exits and goes back to the regular system shell. How can I make it so after the user types a command it goes back to the "$" input.
