Hi all,
I've built an iframe based facebook application. In my application I use http handler. I need to access information from the api.
What would be the best way to do so?
Hi there,
I'm overwriting UINavigationController to replace the default navigationBar property with an instance of my own subclass of UINavigationBar. So I tried something like
_navigationBar = [[SBNavigationBar alloc] init];
in my -initWithRootViewController:. But that didn't work out as I expected it. There's still the default navigationBar being displayed.
So what's the best point to overwrite the navigationBar?
Thanks in advance

In a system which requires use of multiple languages, what are the best practises to ensure a loosely-coupled architecture when code is calling another language's code?
Specifically I'm looking for a native linux program that is similar in functionality to Navicat or SQLYog. I.e. I need something good at editing data. Free would be best, but not essential. Thanks!
The National Park Service's Natural Sounds Program collects multiple terabytes of data each year measuring soundscapes. In your opinion, what is best available scripting language to manage massive amounts of files and file types? We would like to easily design and run efficient user-friendly scripts to search for and retrieve/create copies of files that may be located in different directories according a single static hierarchy. The OS will most likely be windows. Thanks!
I need to programatically encrypt a directory of files, like in a .zip or whatever. Preferably password protected obviously.
How can I accomplish this, and WHAT IS the BEST encryption way to do it, if applicable?
Programming language doesn't matter. I am dictioned in all syntax.
With a single page app, where I change the hash and load and change only the content of the page, I'm trying to decide on how to manage the JavaScript that each "page" might need.
I've already got a History module monitoring the location hash which could look like domain.com/#/company/about, and a Page class that will use XHR to get the content and insert it into the content area.
function onHashChange(hash) {
var skipCache = false;
if(hash in noCacheList) {
skipCache = true;
}
new Page(hash, skipCache).insert();
}
// Page.js
var _pageCache = {};
function Page(url, skipCache) {
if(!skipCache && (url in _pageCache)) {
return _pageCache[url];
}
this.url = url;
this.load();
}
The cache should let pages that have already been loaded skip the XHR. I also am storing the content into a documentFragment, and then pulling the current content out of the document when I insert the new Page, so I the browser will only have to build the DOM for the fragment once.
Skipping the cache could be desired if the page has time sensitive data.
Here's what I need help deciding on: It's very likely that any of the pages that get loaded will have some of their own JavaScript to control the page. Like if the page will use Tabs, needs a slide show, has some sort of animation, has an ajax form, or what-have-you.
What exactly is the best way to go around loading that JavaScript into the page? Include the script tags in the documentFragment I get back from the XHR? What if I need to skip the cache, and re-download the fragment. I feel the exact same JavaScript being called a second time might cause conflicts, like redeclaring the same variables.
Would the better way be to attach the scripts to the head when grabbing the new Page? That would require the original page know all the assets that every other page might need.
And besides knowing the best way to include everything, won't I need to worry about memory management, and possible leaks of loading so many different JavaScript bits into a single page instance?
I need to add two lines of html to every page on a large website. I will be using a regex to do it.
I would like to know the best tools to download all the html files from a website, then ftp upload them back up on Windows.
I want to write a database app in Python, using SQLite and wxPython.
My only "experience" is 1 class on basic C++ console programming and OOP concepts.
Which IDE would be best for my situation?
In case it matters, I only need my new program to run on Windows, and I do want to make it "portable".
Thank you.
What is the best way to convert from Pascal Case (upper Camel Case) to a sentence.
For example starting with
"AwaitingFeedback"
and converting that to
"Awaiting feedback"
C# preferable but I could convert it from Java or similar.

Its common to observe listview developments for webforms but no common in mvc. on the other hand for mvc I´m only finding grid views displaying tabular data.
In your opinion which is the best List view solution for asp.net mvc?.
Edited:
ok, finally I found a possibility. Kazi Manzur wrote a listview using telerik controls. http://weblogs.asp.net/rashid/archive/2010/03/24/creating-rich-view-components-in-asp-net-mvc.aspx
Hello,
I want to know what algorithm do best approximation on salesman problem,
and in what scale this approximation like to be a optimal solve (%?)
Anyone can help me on this?
I have a few classes in my current project where validation of Email/Website addresses is necessary. The methods to do that are all the same.
I wondered what's the best way to implement this, so I don't need to have these methods copy pasted everywhere?
The classes themselves are not necessarily related, they only have those validation methods in common.
Hi,
we have a collection of FLV files, to be displayed by FlowPlayer flash-app in a website.
The scripts and handling of data are done with Apache/MySQL/PHP.
As the video files are static files they should be served by a more static oriented webserver like lighttpd or nginx, like it's done with photos.
What's the best webserver for serving video? A static files oriented webserver should be good?
thanks in advance
regards, rui
What is the best way to combine two uints into a ulong in c#, setting the high/low uints.
I know bitshifting can do it, but I don't know the syntax, or there maybe other APIs to help like BitConverter, but I don't see a method that does what I want.
What is the best, up-to-date and comprehensive book on operating systems? Voice your opinion.
I have seen recommendations for Tanenbaum's Modern Operating Systems but the reviews saying the latest edition has many conceptual errors and numerous typos make me worry.
We are working on a hiring application and need the ability to easily parse resumes. Before trying to build one, was wondering what resume parsing tools are available out there and what is the best one, in your opinion? We need to be able to parse both Word and TXT files.
I am just beginning to build my Rails application and thus far I've followed a RESTful design and it's proven much easier to understand and organize the code and structure of the application. I have things like posts and comments. However for the front page. I want to display all the latest posts but also may be in the sidebar display things such as Latest Comments and Latest events. What's the best way to go about this while maintaining the RESTful philosophy?
I'm working on a web application using JSP/Servlets, etc. And I have a lot of form progression. I am aware of some ways to use the "Back" functionality, but I am not sure if its efficient enough.
What are the best ways to implement this? Does it Involve using the session object? or just the request? or neither?
I am intrigued by stack-based languages like Forth. Are there situations where Forth is the best tool for the job or is it just an intellectual and historical curiosity? What about derivative languages like Factor or Joy? Which of these languages would you recommend learning? And for what purpose (apart from mind expansion)?
Hi all
I'm trying to figure out the optimum way to develop and release a fairly simple web application, and I'm running into several problems. I'll outline the decisions I've made, because somewhere I've clearly gone off the rails.. Hugely grateful for any help!
I have what I think is a fairly simple web application. It contains a couple of jsps that reference a couple of java beans, and the usual static html, js, css and images.
Decision 1) I wanted to have a clear and clean release procedure, such that I could develop on my local machine and then release reliably to a production machine. I therefore made the decision to package the application into a war file (including all the static resources), to minimize the separate bits and pieces I would need to release. So far so good?
Decision 2) I wanted things on my local machine to be as similar as possible to the production environment. So in my html, for example, I may have a reference to a static file such as http://static.foo.com/file . To keep this code working seamlessly on dev and prod, I decided to put static.foo.com in my /etc/hosts when developing locally, so that all the urls work correctly without changing anything.
Decision 3) I decided to use eclipse and maven to give me a best practice environment for administering and building my project.
So I have a nice tight set up now, except that:
Every time I want to change anything in development, like one line in an html file, I have to rebuild the entire project and then wait for tomcat to load the war before I can see if it's what I wanted. So my questions are:
1) Is there a way to connect up eclipse and tomcat so that I don't have to rebuild the war each time? ie tomcat is looking straight at my actual workspace to serve up the static files?
2)I think I'm maybe making things harder by using /etc/hosts to reflect production urls - is there a better way that doesn't involve manually changing over urls (relative urls are fine of course, but where you have many subdomains, say one for static files and one for dynamic, you have to write out the full path, surely?)
3) Is this really best practice?? How do people set things up so that they balance the requirement for an automated, all-encompassing build process on the one hand, and the speed and flexibility to be able to develop javascript and html and css quickly, as quickly as if one just pointed apache at the directory and developed live? What do people find works?
Many thanks!
I have seen at least two ways to include an external log4net config file in an ASP.NET web application:
Having the following attribute in your AssemblyInfo.cs file:
[assembly: log4net.Config.XmlConfigurator(ConfigFile = "Log.config", Watch = true)]
Calling the XmlConfigurator in the Global.asax.cs:
protected void Application_Start()
{
XmlConfigurator.Configure(new FileInfo("Log.config"));
}
What would be the best practice to do it?
I have a .net application which needs to expose a service consumed by a java client. The service can't be public. There should be some authentication mechanism for the client. What is the best way to do this? I'm new to web services and am confused by all the soap, wsdl etc. and have also heard a lot that it'll be a pain to get the two to communicate. Your thoughts?
