  • google app engine persistent globals

    - by Joey
Hi, I'm looking for a way to keep the equivalent of persistent global variables in app engine (python). What I'm doing is creating a global kind that I initialize once (i.e. when I reset all my database objects when I'm testing). I have things in there like global counters, or the next id to assign certain kinds I create. Is this a decent way to do this sort of thing or is there generally another approach that is used?

  • How do I pass a variable number of parameters along with a callback function?

    - by Bungle
I'm using a function to lazy-load the Sizzle selector engine (used by jQuery): var sizzle_loaded; // load the Sizzle script function load_sizzle(module_name) { var script; // load Sizzle script and set up 'onload' and 'onreadystatechange' event // handlers to ensure that external script is loaded before dependent // code is executed script = document.createElement('script'); script.src = 'sizzle.min.js'; script.onload = function() { sizzle_loaded = true; gather_content(module_name); }; script.onreadystatechange = function() { if ((script.readyState === 'loaded' || script.readyState === 'complete') && !sizzle_loaded) { sizzle_loaded = true; gather_content(module_name); } }; // append script to the document document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script); } I set the onload and onreadystatechange event handlers, as well as the sizzle_loaded flag to call another function (gather_content()) as soon as Sizzle has loaded. All of this is needed to do this in a cross-browser way. Until now, my project only had to lazy-load Sizzle at one point in the script, so I was able to just hard-code the gather_content() function call into the load_sizzle() function. However, I now need to lazy-load Sizzle at two different points in the script, and call a different function either time once it's loaded. My first instinct was to modify the function to accept a callback function: var sizzle_loaded; // load the Sizzle script function load_sizzle(module_name, callback) { var script; // load Sizzle script and set up 'onload' and 'onreadystatechange' event // handlers to ensure that external script is loaded before dependent // code is executed script = document.createElement('script'); script.src = 'sizzle.min.js'; script.onload = function() { sizzle_loaded = true; callback(module_name); }; script.onreadystatechange = function() { if ((script.readyState === 'loaded' || script.readyState === 'complete') && !sizzle_loaded) { sizzle_loaded = true; callback(module_name); } }; // append script to the document document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0].appendChild(script); } Then, I could just call it like this: load_sizzle(module_name, gather_content); However, the other callback function that I need to use takes more parameters than gather_content() does. How can I modify my function so that I can specify a variable number of parameters, to be passed with the callback function? Or, am I going about this the wrong way? Ultimately, I just want to load Sizzle, then call any function that I need to (with any arguments that it needs) once it's done loading. Thanks for any help!

  • Flex project architecture ?

    - by Tony
What's the best way to organize functionality modules in a flex project? I saw some people put all modules in one view stack ,and so the application interface is only load once, but when the application get larger, the whole compiled swf would be very big. If we put swfs in different pages, we pass request parameters through HTTP request, we lost the benefits from flex RPC services, slow loading, and we can't see any superior comparing to php,asp,jsp... what's the best practice to organize front end architecture?

  • Triggering event when Button is pressed down in Android

    - by Cody
I have the following code for Android which works fine to play a sound once a button is clicked: Button SoundButton2 = (Button)findViewById(R.id.sound2); SoundButton2.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { mSoundManager.playSound(2); } }); My problem is that I want the sound to play immediately upon pressing the button (touch down), not when it is released (touch up). Any ideas on how I can accomplish this?

  • table to updated after selection with uipicker

    - by Guille10k
An UIPicker shows up when I select a row in a table, so I can choose some things I want to be displayed on the same row. How can I update the table once I finished with the uipicker? I used reloadData right after the call to the picker, but the code is executed before I do "Done" on the picker. Some idea? Thank u

  • log4j properties file: how to configure ?

    - by EugeneP
Is it right that the procedure of using log4j looks like this: 1) put a .properties file somewhere in a project folder 2) in an initialization method, that runs only once, invoke PropertyConfigurator.configure("path_to_file"); 3) in every method we need to use logger we define a static logger variable and simply invoke getLogger(class) I'm asking you this: what if the initialization module is not defined? Where to put "log4j.properties" file so that we wouldn't need to invoke propertyconfigurator.configure at all, or if it's not possible, is it ok to invoke PropertyConfigurator.configure("path_to_file") in every method that uses a logger?

  • IE only jQuery bug

    - by Greg-J
jsbin for reference: http://jsbin.com/edago3/5/ When viewed in any other browser, the toggler works as you would expect it to. However, in IE (I'm using 8), you can only contract the currently expanded sub menu, and then you get undesired results once it is closed.

  • Regex: How do I match some regex logic 1 or more times?

    - by tom
I already have some regex logic which says to look for a div tag with class=something. However, this might occur more than once (one after another). You can't simply add square brackets around that complex regex logic already (e.g. [:some complicated regex logic already existing:]* -- so how do you do it in regex? I want to avoid having to use the programming language logic to append that regex logic after itself if I can... Thanks

  • How does one set multiple cache-control directives in ASP.NET

    - by strongopinions
I have to have several certain cache-control directives set on an ASP.NET page in order to pass a Hailstorm security scan. For example, it wants me to have Cache-control: no-cache="set-cookie" in addition to Cache-control: no-cache I have been setting the latter with the following line in my C# codebehind: Response.CacheControl = "no-cache"; Is there a special way to indicate both directives at once? Do I just separate them with a semicolon?

  • How to create a column that can never be updated?

    - by Randy Minder
In SQL Server 2008, is it possible to create a column that can have a value inserted into it, but can never be updated? In other words, the column can have an initial value inserted into it, but once it contains a non-null value, it can never be changed. If possible, I would prefer to do it without using a trigger. Thanks - Randy

  • How to update multiple rows with different values in mysql?

    - by user210481
I have a table with a column 'A'. Some rows have 14 digits for the column 'A' and some have only 12. I need to transform all the entries to 14 digits. The datatype is varchar I would like to update all the rows at once (one query), adding zeros before the first digit, so an entry like 012345678910 would become 00012345678910. Is it possible to do it in one single query? Thanks

  • Drupal module to retry failed emails

    - by JavadocMD
I'm trying to find an existing Drupal module to fit the bill: basically, when an email fails to send, it should save the email and automatically attempt to resend the email later. I'm using the SMTP module to relay emails through an SMTP gateway (required by the hosting provider), but every once in a while the connection is refused - probably due to the gateway being too busy.

    - by Shamik
JSF 1.1 and websphere 6.1 was working properly in my case. Once I deployed that to a websphere 7 server, I received the following error - Application was not properly initialized at startup, could not find Factory: javax.faces.context.FacesContextFactoryat javax.faces.FactoryFinder.getFactory(FactoryFinder.java:270) at javax.faces.webapp.FacesServlet.init(FacesServlet.java:164) at com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.servlet.ServletWrapper.init(ServletWrapper.java:358) at com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.servlet.ServletWrapperImpl.init(ServletWrapperImpl.java:168) Not sure what it means, I have enabled JSF1.2 as project facet in the RAD but still keep getting the above error message and none of my jsf files are working.

  • Removing input background colour for Chrome autocomplete?

    - by DisgruntledGoat
On a form I'm working on, Chrome is auto-filling the email and password fields. This is fine, however, Chrome changes the background colour to a pale yellow colour. The design I'm working on is using light text on a dark background, so this really messes up the look of the form - I have stark yellow boxes and near-invisible white text. Once the field is focused, the fields return to normal. Is it possible to stop Chrome changing the colour of these fields?

  • Java - is it possible to read a file line by line, stop, and then immediately start reading bytes wh

    - by hatorade
I'm having an issue trying to parse the ascii part of a file, and once I hit the end tag, IMMEDIATELY start reading in the bytes from that point on. Everything I know in Java to read off a line or a whole word creates a buffer, which ruins any chance of getting the bytes immediately following my stop point. Is the only way to do this read in byte-by-byte, find new-lines, reconstruct everything prior to the new-line, see if it's my end tag, and go from there?

  • WordPress Write Cache Problem with Multiple Sessions

    - by Volomike
I'm working on a content dripper custom plugin in WordPress that my client asked me to build. He says he wants it to catch a page view event, and if it's the right time of day (24 hours since last post), to pull from a resource file and output another post. He needed it to also raise a flag and prevent other sessions from firing that same snippet of code. So, raise some kind of flag saying, "I'm posting that post, go away other process," and then it makes that post and releases the flag again. However, the strangest thing is occurring when placed under load with multiple sessions hitting the site with page views. It's firing instead of one post -- it's randomly doing like 1, 2, or 3 extra posts, with each one thinking that it was the right time to post because it was 24 hours past the time of the last post. Because it's somewhat random, I'm guessing that the problem is some kind of write caching where the other sessions don't see the raised flag just yet until a couple microseconds pass. The plugin was raising the "flag" by simply writing to the wp_options table with the update_option() API in WordPress. The other user sessions were supposed to read that value with get_option() and see the flag, and then not run that piece of code that creates the post because a given session was already doing it. Then, when done, I lower the flag and the other sessions continue as normal. But what it's doing is letting those other sessions in. To make this work, I was using add_action('loop_start','checkToAddContent'). The odd thing about that function though is that it's called more than once on a page, and in fact some plugins may call it. I don't know if there's a better event to hook. Even still, even if I find an event to hook that only runs once on a page view, I still have multiple sessions to contend with (different users who may view the page at the same time) and I want only one given session to trigger the content post when the post is due on the schedule. I'm wondering if there are any WordPress plugin devs out there who could suggest another event hook to latch on to, and to figure out another way to raise a flag that all sessions would see. I mean, I could use the shared memory API in PHP, but many hosting plans have that disabled. Can't use a cookie or session var because that's only one single session. About the only thing that might work across hosting plans would be to drop a file as a flag, instead. If the file is present, then one session has the flag. If the file is not present, then other sessions can attempt to get the flag. Sure, I could use the file route, but it's kind of immature in my opinion and I was wondering if there's something in WordPress I could do.

  • Managing multiple AJAX calls to PHP scripts

    - by relativelycoded
I have a set of 5 HTML dropdowns that act as filters for narrowing results returned from a mySQL database. The three pertinent filters are for "Province", "Region", and "City" selection, respectively. I have three functions: findSchools(), which runs when any of the filters (marked with CSS class .filter) are changed, and fetches the results via AJAX from a PHP script. Once that is done, two other functions are called... changeRegionOptions(), which, upon changing the "Province" filter, and updates the available options using the same method as the first function, but posting to a different script. changeCityOptions(), which runs if the "Region" filter was changed, and updates options, again using the same method. The problem is that since I want these AJAX functions to run simultaneously, and they by nature run asynchronously, I've tried using $.when to control the execution of the functions, but it doesn't fix the problem. The functions run, but the Region and City filters return blank (no options); the FireBug report shows absolutely no output, even though the POST request went through. The posted parameter for filter_province gets sent normally, but the one for region gets cut off at the end -- it sends as filter_region=, with no value passed. So I'm presuming my logic is wrong somewhere. The code is below: // When any of the filters are changed, let's query the database... $("select.filter").change(function() { findSchools(); }); // First, we see if there are any results... function findSchools() { var sch_province = document.filterform.filter_province.value; var sch_region = document.filterform.filter_region.value; var sch_city = document.filterform.filter_city.value; var sch_cat = document.filterform.filter_category.value; var sch_type = document.filterform.filter_type.value; $.post("fetch_results.php", { filter_province : sch_province, filter_region : sch_region, filter_city : sch_city, filter_category : sch_cat, filter_type : sch_type }, function(data) { $("#results").html(""); $("#results").hide(); $("#results").html(data); $("#results").fadeIn(600); } ); // Once the results are fetched, we want to see if the filter they changed was the one for Province, and if so, update the Region and City options to match that selection... $("#filter_province").change(function() { $.when(findSchools()) .done(changeRegionOptions()); $.when(changeRegionOptions()) .done(changeCityOptions()); }); }; This is just one of the ways I've tried to solve it; I've tried using an IF statement, and tried calling the functions directly inside the general select.filter.change() function (after findSchools(); ), but they all return the same result. Any help with this would be great!

  • c declaraing varibles in blocks

    - by anon
I know that in C++, I can declare variables pretty much everywhere. I recall once reading that in C, variables must be declared at the top of a function i.e. the following is invalid: void foo() { int good; if (...) { int bad; } } In the above code, is the declaraing of the bad varaible legal by C standards, or only legal due to a gcc extension? Thanks!

  • Any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files?

    - by Malcolm
Are there any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files? The reason I'm asking is that I frequently use a custom PY2EXE script that UPX's copies of these files on every build. Yes, I could get fancy and try to cache UPXed files, but I think a simpler, safer, and higher performance solution would be for me to just UPX my Python 2.6.4 directory once and be done with it. Thoughts? Malcolm

  • How much network overhead does TLS add compared to a non-encrypted connection?

    - by Daniel Sterling
(Approximately) how many more bits of data must be transferred over the network during an encrypted connection compared to an unencrypted connection? IIUC, once the TLS handshake has completed, the number of bits transferred is equal to those transferred during an unencrypted connection. Is this accurate? As a follow up, is transferring a large file over https significantly slower than transferring that file over http, given fast processors and the same (ideal) network conditions?
