  • How to measure Silverlight or Flash control load time with Google Analytics

    - by ddehghan
Hi everyone I have a simple silverlight page for for finding available domain names. This problem is equaly valid for a flash control as well. I use Google Analytics for monitoring the traffic. I would like to find out how long it take for users to download and render the Silverlight control. Once the java script on a page is loaded there should be a way to start a timer and then stop the timer once the Silverlight/flash control is loaded. Key points I would like to measure are: Time it takes to download the silverlight/flash control Time it takes to initialize the control Thanks

  • Reload AJAX data every X minutes/seconds, jQuery

    - by NightMICU
Hi everyone, I programmed a CMS that has a log of who has recently logged into the system. Presently, this data is fed into a jQuery UI tab via Ajax. I would like to put this information into a sidebar on the main page and load it via AJAX every 30 seconds (or some set period of time). How would I go about doing this? Does the PHP response need to be JSON coded? I am fairly new to AJAX and JSON data. Here is the PHP I am currently using to pull details from the users table- <?php $loginLog = $db->query("SELECT name_f, name_l, DATE_FORMAT(lastLogin, '%a, %b %D, %Y %h:%i %p') AS lastLogin FROM user_control ORDER BY lastLogin ASC LIMIT 10"); while ($recentLogin = $loginLog->fetch()) { echo $recentLogin['name_f'] . " " . $recentLogin['name_l'] . " - " . $recentLogin['lastLogin']; } ?> Thanks!

  • "Introduction to Computer Science and Programming" for a beginner.

    - by Richard
Hi everyone! Im new here and also new to developing software and programming, and with new I mean 0 experience or schooling for it. As Im currently studying medicine via internet and I use a computer on an average of about 8-9 hours a day, this has lead me to get very interested in programming. I got a link from a fellow Redditor and I got some questions before I dive into this project. http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Electrical-Engineering-and-Computer-Science/6-00Fall-2008/CourseHome/index.htm Is this too much/hard for a beginner? Is Python™ programming language the way to go or would I be better off learning some other kind of language to begin with? What other ways of learning basic programming by myself is there? Are there any better ways for a complete beginner to start off? Thank you for your time!

  • Using Jquery to slowly hide a div

    - by Pete Herbert Penito
Hi everyone! I'm trying to make some code which finds if a div exists, and if it does then have it fade away slowly. I have this to determine whether or not the div exists if($('#error').length != 0) { $('#error').hide(500); } And that does work but only on a refresh, I've been attempting to put it in a timer like this: var refreshId = setInterval(function() { if($('#error').length != 0) { $('#error').hide(500); } }, 500); But its not getting rid of the innerHTML! I have some code which on hover alters the innerHTML of the error div so I can fill it up, but for some reason this isn't working, any advice would help! Thank you!

  • How can I kill MySQL queries every 60 seconds in Windows?

    - by Ethan Allen
I want to check my MySQL server every minute and kill queries that have run longer than 150 seconds. The main reason I want to do this is because I don't want queries from certain people to lock up the DB for everyone else. I know this is not the ultimate solution to the problem, but at least it's a fallback in case something goes wrong with a query. I don't have a slave DB (this is just an at-home project). I'd like to schedule a script to run that does this for me. I'm unfamiliar with Perl or Ruby and I need it done on my Windows 2008 Server box. I've looked into creating a simple cmd line script, but that doesn't seem to be possible. I know currently I can do something like this but I have to do it manually: mysqladmin processlist mysqladmin kill Anyone have any ideas or examples on how I could do this?

  • A web application that uses someone else's mail server?

    - by John
I'm building a web application, call it http://mywebapp.com, where a user should be able to create a newsletter and email it to everyone in his user account's contact list. So he can check mark all his friends, select an html template, fill in the body content, and send. The only catch to this is that after the user sends the email, the recipient must NOT be allowed to trace the source of the email back to http://mywebapp.com. The reason for this condition is because the user is a "reseller" of my business who wants to appear as if he's an independent business. If liability issues arise due to the reseller's unduly usage, I do not want to be caught up in the legal issues. Hence, I do not want anything about my business or technology to be traceable back to me by newsletter recipients. What's the best way to achieve this?

  • nUnit Assert.That(method,Throws.Exception) not catching exceptions

    - by JasonM
Hi Everyone, Can someone tell me why this unit test that checks for exceptions fails? Obviously my real test is checking other code but I'm using Int32.Parse to show the issue. [Test] public void MyTest() { Assert.That(Int32.Parse("abc"), Throws.Exception.TypeOf<FormatException>()); } The test fails, giving this error. Obviously I'm trying to test for this exception and I think I'm missing something in my syntax. Error 1 TestCase '.MyTest' failed: System.FormatException : Input string was not in a correct format. at System.Number.StringToNumber(String str, NumberStyles options, NumberBuffer& number, NumberFormatInfo info, Boolean parseDecimal) at System.Number.ParseInt32(String s, NumberStyles style, NumberFormatInfo info) at System.Int32.Parse(String s) based on the documentation at Throws Constraint (NUnit 2.5)

  • Why are Asynchronous processes not called Synchronous?

    - by Balk
So I'm a little confused by this terminology. Everyone refers to "Asynchronous" computing as running different processes on seperate threads, which gives the illusion that these processes are running at the same time. This is not the definition of the word asynchronous. a·syn·chro·nous –adjective 1. not occurring at the same time. 2. (of a computer or other electrical machine) having each operation started only after the preceding operation is completed. What am I not understanding here?

  • Why isn't my javascript working on a local HTML file using UIWebView loadRequest:?

    - by Raphael
Hi Everyone, I have a script that generates a temporary HTML file that has links to external Javascript files that it requires to run. <script src="file:///Users/raphaeldefranco/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/BA9E724E-76BD-4F28-B224-54B4C73786D6/LogTen.app/Reports/Time by Year/../../Tools/PlotKit/Base.js" type="text/javascript"></script> The links are absolute and they are to the right place (There is a CSS link as well that uses the same method and it works fine). I've been using the following, which finds images and CSS just fine but for some reason won't run the .js. [webView loadRequest:requestObj]; I've tried changing the encoding of the files. I had a problem getting the CSS to work until the file was in unicode, but so far no luck. All the Script files are bundled with my project etc. Thanks in advance!

  • filter lists that are split by easylistsplitter.js?

    - by Jason
Hi Everyone, At my site - jasondaydesign.com. I'm using easylistsplitter.js. I designed it this way, because I actually wanted a masonry.js style layout but I couldn't find a way to filter divs. So I made the switch to lists, and found a plugin that allowed me to have a masonry style layout. Unfortunately, I have tried several list filters including: filterprojects.js and a netuts tutorial on a filterable portfolio. Unfortunately, both work, but only on the first column. I can't seem to figure out a way to have a filter plugin work on all list items that have been split by easylistsplitter.js Thoughts?

  • Recommend a local LDAP store for development

    - by Paul Stovell
Our project uses an LDAP repository for storing users. In production this will be Active Directory. For development, we seem to have a couple of options: Install an AD LDS instance that everyone uses Install an AD LDS instance on every developer machine We're trying to keep the 'F5' experience as lightweight as possible, so installing things or relying on a central AD store aren't my favorite ideas. There are other LDAP servers, like Open LDAP. I was hoping there might be an LDAP server that simply talks to an XML file. This would allow us to store the XML file in source control and have something that is fast and works. Our nightly builds would still use AD to pick up any differences, but the hope is since we're using LDAP it should Just Work. Can you recommend an LDAP implementation that works well for zero-config shared-nothing development?

  • SVN update returns nothing, while it should

    - by user325483
Hi everyone, First some background information; I've set up my SVN repository on my local server at home using VisualSVN Server. Using SSH on (or via php/shell script), i am able to check out a folder from this repository to the webserver, all goes well. Also updates and other svn commands execute normaly and return their messages. Now comes the problem, and I'm struggling with this for a few days now. Before I execute the checkout command *svn co http://server_home/folder*, I want to make sure no conflicts are going to happen, so I execute *svn status [folder_on_webserver]*. But this doesn't return the result as expected, it returns nothing. When I execute * svn status --show-updates [folder_on_webserver]* it returns the following: * newfolder * 13 anotherfolder * 13 yetanotherfolder * 13 . Status against revision: 16 As you can see it misses the svn codes (A,U,D). Does somebody knows why the svn update command and the svn codes doesnt work?

  • GIT vs. Perforce- Two VCS will enter... one will leave.

    - by Justin Bozonier
So I'm in the process of getting GIT sold at work. First thing I need is to convince everyone that GIT is better at what they're already used to doing. We currently use Perforce. Anybody else go through a similar sale? Any good links/advice? One of the big wins is that we can worth with it disconnected from the network. Another win imo is the way adds/checkouts are handled. More points are welcome! Also we have about 10-20 devs total.

  • What advantages can I get from learning C++ if I'm mainly a C# Programmer?

    - by Sergio Tapia
Hello, Recently I've started to notice a lot of smirks and generally rude comments whenever I mention C#. Everyone I talk to either says learn Python or learn C++. Python is a nice language, I get it. But I don't find much use for it right now (for my use cases), and C++ I heard is a faster language (not sure). So my question is this, what advantage can I get from learning C++ (besides the knowledge and expansion of my horizons), when I mainly program in C#. If anyone can make a legitimate claim, I'll for sure look into learning the language because let's face it, I trust you guys. Thanks so much for all the help.

  • Conditional interface programming for iPad?

    - by Fyrian
Hi everyone! I'm working on an app for the iPad and am a little over my head with one issue. Is it possible to build an app for iPad that uses a function to control which interface layout is displayed? Something like "if these parameters are met, use XIB file "a" else use XIB file "b". I know that's not in any kind of legitimate format, but you get the idea. If this is possible, does anyone know of any tutorials on how to do it or sample code I could look at? Thanks!

  • Android ImageButton / Custom-Button?

    - by user568306
Hi everyone, I am new to android development. So far I could help myself in all matters by reading threads here on stackoverflow. Now I am stuck and need someones help. Unfortunately I am not allowed to post an image of a screenshot because I am a new mamber, so I try to descripe it. I have a Samsung Galasy S and the clock app that ships with it has an button called "+ Create alarm". I want to create a similar button for my app. I've been experimenting with ImageButton. I do know how to get that "+"-Icon onto an ImageButton, but only centered and without text. I guess this is a custom button. Does anyone know how to do this? Can I do it in xml or do I need to extend the view-class and make it my own view?

  • Logical value of an assignment in C

    - by Andy Shulman
while (curr_data[1] != (unsigned int)NULL && ((curr_ptr = (void*)curr_data[1]) || 1)) Two part question. What will (curr_ptr = (void*)curr_data[1]) evaluate to, logically. TRUE? Also, I know its rather hack-ish, but is the while statement legal C? I would have to go through great contortions to put the assignment elsewhere in the code, so I'd be really nice if I could leave it there, but if it's so egregious that it makes everyone's eyeballs burst into flames, I'll change it.

  • Please explain syntax rules and scope for "typedef"

    - by unknown google user
What are the rules? OTOH the simple case seems to imply the new type is the last thing on a line. Like here Uchar is the new type. typedef unsigned char Uchar; But a function pointer is completely different. Here the new type is pFunc: typedef int (*pFunc) (int); I can't think of any other examples offhand but I have come across some very confusing usages. So are there rules or are people just suppose to know from experience that this is how it is done because they have seen it done this way before? ALSO: What is the scope of a typedef. Thanks to everyone.

  • jQuery .animate reveal contact form hidden in div with negative margin above header

    - by brhea
Hi everyone, I've got my contact form hidden with a negative margin-top, so that when the visitor clicks "Contact" it reveals the div. <script type="text/javascript">$("#revealContact").click(function(){ $("#contact").animate({ marginTop: "+=620px" }, 1000); });</script> You can view it live here: http://www.brianrhea.com/index_contact.php -- click Contact link in top right My problem is that as soon as the form is submitted, it inherits the -620 margin and the success (or error) prompt is invisible. I'm running in to some other cross-compatibility issues as well with the margin spacing so I'm not even sure this is the best way to go about this. Obviously it'd be great if I could just begin with the div as display:hidden and then animate it to visible, but I haven't been able to do that. Any input is appreciated, either with advice on how to save the margin after form submission, or suggestion on better method to achieve this hide/reveal. Thanks, Brian

  • Change function into dependencyproperty

    - by Jaya Willianto
Hi everyone.. I am new to XAML and WPF and I am learning about DependencyProperty and Path. For example, I have a function like this public byte[] DownloadPicture() { WebClient webClient = new WebClient(); byte[] data; data = webClient.DownloadData("https://graph.facebook.com/4/picture&type=large"); return data; } and I have dependencyproperty like this public static DependencyProperty DownloadPicProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("DownloadPic", typeof(byte), typeof(ImageControl), new PropertyMetadata(false)); How can I connect the DependencyProperty with the DownloadPicture function I wrote? Any suggestions? What should I write in the CLR wrapper?

  • jQuery plugin to have Facebook styled search box with image thumbnails?

    - by Michael Mao
Hello everyone: I will work on a search box with inspiration from Facebook where image thumbnails would be displayed besides the auto-suggested matches. This is the goal : link to sample image I wonder if there is any jQuery plugin that would just do this. I tried to search for a one but unable to find. If there is no plugin for this task, I'd like to know the basic plugins needed to implemented such an auto-suggest/image thumbnail display combination. Any suggestion and hint is welcomed. Thanks a lot!

  • Writing code to be a better programmer

    - by wtfsven
A while back I heard on a podcast about a site listing "10 applications to write that will make you a better programmer." I'm desperate to find where this is, or at the very least a decent list from someone here. The thing is, I've been writing code for about 8 years now, and it's my passion. Very few things make me happier than getting lost in some C# or Python. But I've spent the last 2 years in a job that doesn't allow me much time to do what I love. Now everyone knows that the best way to keep your coding sword sharp is to use it, and I've noticed recently that mine is getting dull. Does anyone have any suggestions on some simple programs to help flex my coding muscle? I'm one of those odd few who actually likes writing CRUD applications, so stuff like that would be nice, too.

  • why single SQL delete statement will cause deadlock?

    - by George2
Hello everyone, I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. I am wondering why even a single delete statement of this store procedure will cause deadlock if executed by multiple threads at the same time? For the delete statement, Param1 is a column of table FooTable, Param1 is a foreign key of another table (refers to another primary key clustered index column of the other table). There is no index on Param1 itself for table FooTable. FooTable has another column which is used as clustered primary key, but not Param1 column. create PROCEDURE [dbo].[FooProc] ( @Param1 int ,@Param2 int ,@Param3 int ) AS DELETE FooTable WHERE Param1 = @Param1 INSERT INTO FooTable ( Param1 ,Param2 ,Param3 ) VALUES ( @Param1 ,@Param2 ,@Param3 ) DECLARE @ID bigint SET @ID = ISNULL(@@Identity,-1) IF @ID > 0 BEGIN SELECT IdentityStr FROM FooTable WHERE ID = @ID END thanks in advance, George

  • Getting started with SQLite (Android)

    - by Tarmon
Hey Everyone, I have limited SQL background, basically a small amount of manipulation through HTML and mostly with pre-existing databases. What I am trying to do is set up a database that will store time information for bus routes. So basically I have different routes with stops for each route and then a list of times that the bus arrives at each stop. Here is an example of a table of times from their website: Link. I am wondering what would be the best way to layout my database/tables? Also what is the purpose of the _id field in each table? Thanks, Rob! P.S. Sorry if my lack of knowledge on the subject has caused me to post a duplicate question.
