  • Is there anyway way to speed up Exchange 2007's Load Generator tool?

    - by JohnM
I'm running Load Generator to test our new deployment before going live and the initialization process has been running for two days and is only at 25% for ~58000 user test. Does anyone know of a way to speed up this process? Surely it shouldn't take this long. Currently, I've got it running with one master and two remote servers and they aren't peaking out on CPU or Network utilization. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  • Voice on 4G Technologies such as LTE and WiMAX?

    - by Vaibhav Bajpai
I understand that LTE and WiMAX are IP-based technologies that do NOT have a voice component unlike the current 3G technologies. So is it like, voice calls in 4G would be completely driven on top of IP? Wouldn't this break backward compatibility with existing 3G technologies? Is this why 4G is taking it took long to take ubiquitous availability?

Recently i had switched to chrome to find that its much faster than Firefox, but addons like greasemonkey, adblock plus, tweeterfox etc. keeps me wanting to use Firefox. Now I am confused between which of the two to use. Can someone provide some advice on how to be as productive in Chrome as when using FireFox?

  • Automatic adaptive gain normalization

    - by Eduardo
How may I normalize a (voice) audio mp3 or aac file with no loss, having the gain rised as much as possible with little distortion, so in a long conversation people that speak softer can have more gain for their voice and people that speak louder can have less gain?

  • Legality of using a burned CD with a legal CD-Key?

    - by Luminose
I have a friend that keeps a collection of burned Windows CD's; 2000, XP, Vista which he uses to repair peoples computers with. Now he justifies this by saying he uses the CD-Key on their OEM sticker that came with their PC. As long as the installation validates the installation should be 100% legal. Is this true? I've always been under the impression you had to use the original CD/DVD that came with the computer. Thanks in advance.

  • Firefox: non-Vimperator way to do mouseless browsing?

    - by Peter Mortensen
Is it possible to do efficient browsing with Firefox using only the keyboard (like in Opera)? By efficient I mean something faster than using TAB - this takes far too long. The arrow keys should be for navigation (in Opera it is Shift + arrow key). It can done with the Vimperator add-on, but isn't there a simpler way? Update 2: the closest to Opera's way is to enable caret navigation (F7 toggles this mode). It doesn't jump between links so it is a little bit slower, but the normal navigation (arrow keys, page up, page down, etc.) works and the focus/caret/cursor follows (in contrast to a text editor for page up/down). And text can be selected and copied like in a text editor. The biggest drawback is that in practice it is necessary to switch in and out of caret mode. And there is no indication of which mode is currently active. Update 1: a work-around (proposed by several but is not really what I am looking for) can be used if 3 settings are changed (to make it practical). After these changes the first few letters of a link text can be typed and that link will selected so pressing Enter will open it. Using the work-around the screen will jump around if it is a long page as it does not restrict itself to the current visible page, but it is usable. First settings change: menu Tools/Options/Advanced/tab General/Accessibility/Search for text when I start typing Turn this option on. Second settings change: set option to only go to links; in address bar enter: about:config followed by Enter. Then: press "I'll be careful, I promise", find the line accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly, select it and change the value to True by either hitting Enter or Shift+F10/Toggle (accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly is on line 11 when I tried). Third settings change: turn off case-sensitivity. Set accessibility.typeaheadfind.casesensitive to 0 (same procedure as for accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly, see above. When Enter is pressed a dialog box will appear with the current value. Type 0 and press Enter). To use: type some part of the link. If there are several possibilities use Ctrl+G (or F3) to jump between them. Use Ctrl+Enter to open in a new tab. Platform: Firefox 3.0.6, Windows XP 64 bit SP2.

  • Is DHCP lease expriring years from now okay?

    - by sharptooth
I'm reviewing Azure web role logs and there's output from ipconfig /all IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 10.61.145.37(Preferred) . Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0. Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : Monday, September 24, 2012 12:26:00 PM. Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : Thursday, October 31, 2148 6:55:12 PM. you see, the lease expires in year 2148 but my VM will likely not run for more than one month - when I deploy the new version of my code I first deploy it to new VMs, then switch traffic, then release the new VMs. In general such usage pattern is normal - VMs typically live from several dozen minutes to several weeks on Azure. I suspect the lease that long will cause problems on the internal Azure network sooner or later. Is such long DHCP lease okay or is it likely a misconfiguration?

    - by Roberto Sebestyen
I know how to configure one IIS instance to run many websites using the same public ip address, but different domain names (As long as I have control over the domains). But how can you configure many IIS servers running on different virtual machines in the same network, to host websites using the same public IP addres, but different domain names? Normailly in IIS under the website you can set the headers to which the website will respond to. but what if that website is on a different machine?

    - by faceless1_14
I personally learn by experimentation as opposed to reading documentation. A consequence of this is it takes me a long time to learn some of the useful features of a language like e going to the end of a word or 0 to go to the beginning of a line or $ for the end of a line as well as dd deleting a line What are some Vi/Vim commands that you find most useful but didn't know existed when you were first using Vi/Vim.

  • Time Application Startup

    - by Clinton Blackmore
Is there anyway to time how long it takes an Application to start up on the Mac? We were getting reports of Word 2008 taking a half-hour to launch, and, while we think we've resolved the problem, it would be nice, in the future, to be able to: verify the veracity of such statements, and see if any of our changes make a difference.

    - by depesz
I have ext3 filesystem mounted with default options. On it I have some ~ 100GB files. Removal of any of such files takes long time (8 minutes) and causes a lot of io traffic, which increases load on server. Is there any way to make the rm not as disruptive?

  • How print multiple independent pages in one print job?

    - by C.W.Holeman II
How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper. I would like to do this without having to use some for of image editor to combine them.

  • Pros and Cons of Creating an Internal Cerificate Authority

    - by Chad
What are the pros and cons of spinning up an internal certificate authority (primarily Windows 2003 CA)? We have the need to encypt server-server traffic on a project that has 20+ certificates. We could buy certs from Verisign, but I was thinking that an internal CA might be a better long term solution. So I was looking to the community to provide a pros/cons list of what we might gain (or lose) by hosting our own CA? Thanks in advance for the help.

  • saving excel files to file paths or directories with special characters

    - by benhc911
I am unable to get excel 2010 beta to save to a directory which contains square brackets. I have to save elsewhere and copy in. Is there any workaround? Was this a problem with older versions? I realize that I could manually change the directory names, but I didn't want to forgo a long standing organization scheme for the sake of one program if possible to avoid the problem.

  • Why does CPU processing time matter when compared to real wall clock time?

    - by PeanutsMonkey
I am running the command time 7zr a -mx=9 sample.7z sample.log to gauge how long it takes to compress a file larger than 1GB. The results I get are as follows. real 10m40.156s user 17m38.862s sys 0m5.944s I have a basic understanding of the difference but don't understand how this plays a role in the time in takes to compress the file. For example should I be looking at real or user + sys?

  • Proxy Error 502 "Reason: Error reading from remote server" with Apache 2.2.3 (Debian) mod_proxy and Jetty 6.1.18

    - by Martin
Apache is receiving requests at port :80 and proxying them to Jetty at port :8080 The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server The proxy server could not handle the request GET /. My dilemma: Everything works fine normally (fast requests, few seconds or few tens of seconds long requests are processed ok). Problems occur when request processing takes long (few minutes?). If I issue request instead directly to Jetty at port :8080 the request is processed OK. So problem is likely to sit somewhere between Apache and Jetty where I am using mod_proxy. How to solve this? I have already tried some "tricks" related to KeepAlive settings, without luck. Here is my current configuration, any suggestions? #keepalive Off ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv force-proxy-request-1.0 1 ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv proxy-nokeepalive 1 ## I have tried this, does not help #SetEnv proxy-initial-not-pooled 1 ## I have tried this, does not help KeepAlive 20 ## I have tried this, does not help KeepAliveTimeout 600 ## I have tried this, does not help ProxyTimeout 600 ## I have tried this, does not help NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost _default_:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.mydomain.fi ServerAlias mydomain.fi mydomain.com mydomain www.mydomain.com ProxyRequests On ProxyVia On <Proxy *> Order deny, allow Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass / http://www.mydomain.fi:8080/ retry=1 acquire=3000 timeout=600 ProxyPassReverse / http://www.mydomain.fi:8080/ RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{SERVER_NAME} !^www\.mydomain\.fi RewriteRule /(.*) http://www.mydomain.fi/$1 [redirect=301L] ErrorLog /var/log/apache2/error.log # Possible values include: debug, info, notice, warn, error, crit, # alert, emerg.
