I know this is easy to do these days with Linux, is there any way to do it with Windows 7? I don't mean install it from a thumb drive, but run it from one.
How to change Windows default language temporarily? For example, English to Russian, but for some time and without losing anything. I will revert back to English.
I want to change Language settings everywhere. In programs, Keyboard input, browsers etc.
I am running a windows 2008 server and trying to manage its power such that the system drive should stop if not used for 10 min. My all of other power settings including on my backup drive work except this one and same is behavior on my Win 7 workstation.
Is it something blocked by the OS or I am doing some mistake?
A new icon has appeared in my tray in Windows 7 recently - a black square with a white A in it:
It doesn't have any tooltip or right-click context menu so I haven't been able to identify which process it belongs to. I tried using the "Find Window's Process" tool in Process Explorer but that won't identify individual tray icons.
Short of killing processes until it disappears, is there a good way to identify which process this icon belongs to?
Is there anyway in windows 7 to change the behavior of alt-tab so that it acts like it did in XP?
What I want is for it to show the icon of the program, not a thumbnail of the window. Most of the thumbnails look alike and its really hard to instantly tell which is which like I could on XP.
Using Windows XP. File Explorer stops deleting files when it hits a file which is use. Is there a way to make it skip all files which are in use and just delete the others?
If you will recommend a file explorer alternative, please mention the free one(s).
When I lock my Windows 7 machine with dual monitors, the "Ctrl+Alt+Del" screen is only on the main display, with the other display just showing a black screen. Is there any way to show either the desktop or other graphic on the secondary monitor while the computer is locked?
When using the “Remote Server Administration Tools” on Windows 7 (or Vista), is there a way to make the tools (such as DHCP or DNS) remember servers that I work with on a regular basis?
Hi All,
I want to achieve the following aspects in the software I am building:
1. Customizable entity model
2. Customizable UI
3. Customizable workflow
I have thought about an approach to achieve this, I want you to review this and make suggestions:
Entity objects should be plain objects and will hold just data
Separate Entity model and DB Schema by using an framework (like NHibernate?). This will allow easy modification of entity objects.
Business logic to fetch/modify entities has to be granular enough so that they can be invoked as part of the workflow.
Business objects should not hold any state, and hence will contain only static methods
The workflow will decide depending upon the "state" of an entity/entities which methods on business object/objects to invoke.
The workflow should obtain the results of the processing and then pass on the business objects to the appropriate UI screen.
The UI screen has to contain instructions about how to display a given entity/entites. Possibly the UI has to be generated dynamically based on a set of UI instructions. (like XUL)
What do you think about this approach?
Suggest which existing frameworks (like NHiberante, Window Workflow) fit into this model, so that I will not spend time on coding these frameworks
Also suggest is there any asp.net framework that can generate dynamic asp.net ajax pages based on a set of UI instructions (like Mozilla XUL)?
I have recently been exploring Apache Ofbiz and was impressed by its ability to customize most areas of the application: UI, workflow, entities. Is there any similar (not necessarily an ERP system) application developed in C#/.Net which offers a similar level of customization? I am looking for examples of applications developed in C# that are highly customizable in terms of UI, Workflow and Entity Model

Those that have followed my blogs for a while may know that I have a slightly banal interest in Windows Live and, more specifically, the Live Services developer platform'; if that doesn’t sound interesting to you then stop reading now. My interest mainly stems from the Live Mesh technology that was announced a couple of years ago and the data synchronisation platform API that underpins it; that platform is called the Live Framework or LiveFX for short. At the Professional Developer’s Conference (PDC) 2008 Microsoft made LiveFX available to the public as a Tech Preview and I spent some time learning to use it and also built a few test apps on it too. In August 2009 an announcement came that that tech preview was getting shut down: "At the Professional Developer Conference 2008, we gave the developer community access to the technical preview of the Live Framework. The Live Framework is core to our vision of providing you with a consistent programming interface. Now we are working to integrate existing services, controls and the Live Framework into the next release of Windows Live. Your feedback continues to help us build the best possible offerings for Windows Live users, for you and for your customers. " Since then news on LiveFX has disappeared save for a throwaway session at PDC09 and I was hoping that news was going to appear at this week’s MIX conference but nothing was forthcoming. Instead though today I stumbled upon an unannounced portal for future LiveFX applications on Microsoft’s Azure portal at http://live.azure.com. Check it out: I consider this to be very good news. This Azure portal was built after the LiveFX tech preview was decommissioned so seeing Live Services existing so prominently alongside Microsoft’s other cloud efforts like WindowsAzure and SQL Azure vindicates my early investment in the platform and gives me hope that we’re going to see something get released very very soon. I believe that the potential uses for this platform are extremely compelling and I’m looking forward to trying some out in the near future. I am also expecting LiveFX to have a heavy dependency on the OData protocol that I talked about yesterday in my post OData.org updated - gives clues about future sql azure enhancements so you can tell where my interest in that stems from. In case you’re wondering the projects that you see listed above (Basic List Sample, JT-proj etc…) are projects that I built on the old Tech Preview platform so clearly that stuff has not gone for good which is also good news; not just because it means I’ll have access to the code I wrote before but I also assume it means that LiveFX won’t have changed much since its tech preview incarnation. I know there are other LiveFX buffs out there and hopefully this news reaches some of them. If you are one of them the please put a comment below and let me know your thoughts! @Jamiet

I have downloaded NXEngine (The Open Source version of Cave Story). I have a make file in the directory, which I execute using msys. However, the make file uses sdl-config:
g++ -g -O2 -c main.cpp -D DEBUG `sdl-config --cflags` -Wreturn-type -Wformat -Wno-multichar -o main.o
/bin/sh: sdl-config: command not found
And apparently sdl-config does not exist under windows since there's no sdl installation.
There's also no documentation on the official sourceforge website about this! What do I do?
Hey,Just a quick note to inform that Oracle Database 11g Release 2 was released for MS-Windows Platform 32 & 64-bit the last weekDocumentation has been updated accordingly
There are quite a few things you need do to differently in order to write a great Windows 8 App. Although MSDN has it documented completely in their site , the sheer volume of other related information might overwhelm you. In order to make it easy, they have a single pdf with all the relevant information. The file will also serve as a ‘quick ref’ document whether you are developing using C#-XAML or HTML5-JS-CSS or C++-DirectX style. And yes, this has been updated for the RTM version....(read more)

I just upgraded to 12.10. After installing the files and rebooting I had come across following problem:
error file not found
grub rescue _
This problem was easily solved by repairing the boot using Boot Repair tool. This answer helped me.
But after this, Windows won't start. It's giving following error:
A disk read error has occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
How do I fix this?
This post try to address an issue with the Microsoft Advertising SDK, the main fact that today Microsoft is still refusing access to the Ad Center worldwide. Yesterday they generously increase the number of free apps we can develop from 5 to 100. According to talks with other developers and the Windows Phone 7 team, I have the strong feeling the model of publishing free apps supported by apps is the right course to take today. This probably why Microsoft has moved to a bigger figure. Am I the only...(read more)
When I download the ISO file my system shows the file as a zip file and not an ISO. I have tried to burn the file as an image to a DVD but my laptop will not bootup from the CD.
Settting in the BIOS are ok so I guess the problem is with the ISO file or the way i burned the CD.
I have follwed the instructions on the site for downloading and burning an ISO image to CD so I guess that my problem is with the file association in windows Vista.
Any ideas and suggestrions welcome
Thanks
I am on Ubuntu 11.10. I used to be able to access my Windows partion from the list of devices in Nautilus, but I no longer see it. What might be wrong?

I have a Windows Phone app that relies on an XML data file that comes packaged with the app. In the next version of my app, the XML file will be updated, how do I update the data file once per app update?
I thought I could change the file name in the isolated storage, but that would leave trash behind. I could also check for exceptions when I load the XML file, but are there any other, more elegant ways?
I have just moved from Linux to Windows, and I have to use the Zend Framework library. Where should the library be placed?
Directly on C drive
Create a lib folder like C:/lib/
Create a lib folder in my user folder
I am wondering if there is a classic folder where these kind of libraries are placed.
Update:I am asking about the location on my own standpoint. The Zend Framework library is a PHP framework.
