  • How do I delete the first line in a file?

    I can't search for a particular string, since they're all very similar, but I'd like something simple to chop out the first 4 lines in a file. They're all variable length too. I've had a a think about perl, and it all seems harder than I thought, but I'd like to do it in Perl, AWK or a shell command if possible. Does anybody have a simple way of doing this?

    I'd like to censor some words in a string by replacing each character in the word with a "*". Basically I would want to do String s = "lorem ipsum dolor sit"; s = s.replaceAll("ipsum|sit", $0.length() number of *)); so that the resulting s equals "lorem ***** dolor ***". I know how to do this with repeated replaceAll invokations, but I'm wondering, is this possible to do with a single replaceAll?

    I cant for the life of me get the contents of a string array (well its not strictly typed but all the items in the array are strings) to become a table, i am trying to use ConvertTo-HTML. For example: $arr = @("One", "Two") $arr | ConvertTo-HTML I have tried -As List, using fragments, even using InputObject, is it even possible ? Edit: i simply want to know if there is anyway to use an array as the input for the ConvertTo-HTML cmdlet, all it does is make a table with the length property of the strings.

    I am trying to make a bar chart using tables, which I have almost accomplished to my liking. The last step I want is text over my image which represents the bar. What I want to do next is have the rating number show on top of each breweries on the left hand side. How would I go about accomplishing this? That regex instead captures all words containing ANY of the letters in [computer]. I've been looking at regular expression examples, but i can't quite figure it out... How do i modifiy this regular expression to capture words containing ONLY the letters in computer (with a length of 3 to 8)?

(Obviously a built-in isn't going to save me any time while working in the shell, nor do i suspect there's any difference in accuracy; for scripts i try to use built-ins as often as possible, where the (cumulative) performance gain is often noticeable.
