    I've been testing native vhd boot on several servers, and it seems to be pretty transparent and none of my seat of the pants testing has notice any difference in performance. I have a bunch of servers to roll out that will have the following features/roles dfsr dhcp iis application server dc <- haven't tested this yet but see no reason why it won't work. any opinions/ideas on this?

  • Can I Be Alerted On-Screen Each Time Someone Remote Desktop's Onto My Windows 2003 Server

    I work all day on a Windows Server 2003 machine and have noticed people "borrowing" my machine by using Remote Desktop to log in. This is pretty much "normal behaviour" at the company I work at, but I'd like to know when this is happening. Is there any way I can be alerted each time someone remote desktop's onto my server? A simple "Bob has logged in" would be great - and I imagine there is a facility somewhere to enable this.

    Hi, I have the following powershell script that creates a new website in IIS6: https://github.com/dagda1/iis6/blob/master/create-site.ps1 Does anyone know how I can assign an existing ssl cert to the website? I know I can set the port number using adsutil.vbs like this: cscript adsutil.vbs set w3svc/xxx/securebindings ":443:somewhere.com" But I am drawing a big blank when it comes to assigning an existing ssl certificate.   • HTLM notes in freemind

    Hi, I wonder if the following things can be done with the HTML notes pane of freemind: 1- is it possible on the layout view to decrease the separation between lines? 2- the panel is horizontal, is it possible to setup a vertical view? (I have a big, horizontal-like monitor) By the way, when I move the mouse pointer over a node, i can see the HTLM note associated with it, but its view (as a yellow square) only lasts for some seconds. Can it be made permament? Thanks a lot

    Tunneling data over ssh is pretty straight-forward: ssh -D9999 [email protected] sets up port 9999 on your localhost as a tunnel to foreignhost.com, but I have more specific need: I am working locally on localhost host1 is accessible to localhost host2 only accepts connections from host1 I need to create a tunnel from localhost to host2 Effectively I want to create a "multi-hop" ssh tunnel. How can I do this? Ideally, I'd like to do this without needing to be superuser on any of the machines.

  • How to IDLE on all folders in Thunderbird 7?

    The title pretty much says everything: I'm using server-side filtering so I need Thunderbird to watch all folders for new messages using IDLE. I've already tried enabling "When getting new messages for this account, always check this folder" but after restarting TB I did not have an IMAP IDLE connection open for every folder. I've also tried setting mail.check_all_imap_folders_for_new (which did not exist before) and mail.server.default.check_all_folders_for_new to true - nothing changed.

  • Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Replication - Which files are replicating?

    Windows Server 2008 R2 DFS Replication Is it possible to see which specific files are replicating in real time using a GUI or command line tool or in a log somewhere? I didn't see this in the DFS health reporting, in the DFS event viewer, or the DFS log. The log is pretty cryptic though so it may be in there and I'm unable to see it. I searched through the DFS log for paths and files I know should be replicating and they're not in there.

But the software is big and bulky, and it includes things like printing photo editing and things I can't be bothered with. Are there any smaller alternatives to this software?

  • setting upload/space limit for FTP client

    As part of my web hosting plan i've also got a few domain hosted for family and friends. I have my own FTP account with full access and I would like to give FTP to a web designer and a user. Is there a way for restricing uploads larger than a certian size, or setting a size limit on the folder that the FTP access has access to? I'd rather not let them upload files ridiciously big.     Im pretty new to sharepoint and what i would like to do is create a huge master list of all our employees and then make diffrent "views" on that person depending on the persons group for example a new employe might have sallery info security info personel info contract info i would like to have all that in on row (per employee) but then when someone from the hr group logs in they can only see personel and salery or something like that If that is not an option is there a way to link tables across different lists?

  • Is it possible to run vim in remote mode on another machine?

    Hi, I run an Ubuntu server virtualbox under a Windows host for web development. At the moment I do all editing in Vim running inside PuTTY. It runs pretty well, but lacks some useful features like native copypasting from the host. I know about the remote mode of Vim, but afaik it can only operate on the same machine. Question is, is it possible to make gVim on the windows host proxy all the commands (and the editing) to a Vim instance running on the Linux guest?

  • Port forwarding for Rsync

    Every port on my server is blocked except port 222 which is were ssh connects too. This server is pretty much a backup server, and I have my clients rsync to it. I do this by using ssh's port forwarding (-P 222 -L 873:myserver.com:873), however, I want to do this with just using the rsync command. Is that possible?

  • Sony Vegas: minimal audio glitches

    When doing video-editing with Sony Vegas, I noticed that it kind of produces minimal audio glitches very often. With glitch, I mean a copied fragment of approximately 1/2 second, as if I copied it and directly pasted it again. I'm assuming it must be something with puffers. Does anyone know of this problem? I have a pretty fast Windows 7 system with fast SATA drives.

  • SSH tunneling hangs with many connections

    I am forced to use SSH tunneling to access many servers (over 100) via one gateway server. To keep connection alive I am using autossh. Everything works pretty well until there is high traffic (people are connecting to most of the servers at once). then ssh process reaches 12% of cpu (which is configured maximum for separate process) and no connection is working anymore - i have to restart autossh script. What could be the possible reason for that?

  • Poor performance of single processor 32bit Windows XP xompared SMP in VBA+Excel

    Welcome! On many computers I experienced poor performance of 32 bit guests running on 64 bit Linux host (I used only the Debian family). At last I managed to collect benchmark data. I made the benchmark by running custom VBA macro, (which we use in our company) that generates 284 pages long Word document full of Excel Pie charts, tables and comments. The macro is run as a single task (excluding the standard services) on a set of identically configured Windows XP 32-bit systems. I measured the time (in sec.) needed to perform the test. The computer (i.e. my notebook Asus P53E) supports both VT-d extensions and native Windows XP. It has 2-core processor, each core is hyperthreaded, so in total we have 4 mostly independent execution units. I use the latest VirtualBox 4.2 and VMWare Workstation 9.0 for Linux, installed together on the same host (running Mint 13 Maya) but never run simultaneously. Although VBA is inherently single-threaded, the Excel calculations, which take much more than a half of total computation time, supposedly aren't. So one would expect some speed gain when running on 2+ cores ("+" for hyperthreading). What we see is a speed loss. And quite big one too. For the VirtualBox the VT-d extension isn't a big deal. Can anyone shed some light on why the singlethreaded Windows kernel is so much faster than the SMP one?

    I am nstalling drivers for a printer, and I have a choice of either PCL (5 or 6), or PostScript drivers? Which one would you recommend and why?     I was a big time user of Windows 7 untill switched to Windows 8. I had customized the login screen for Windows 7 and Microsoft had a nice Registry switch to do so. I am looking for a similar way to change background of the start screen and also the login screen where you answer the password without using any 3rd party software Basically I want to know if there's some hidden toggle for that in the OS somewhere and that anyone is aware of it.
