  • Should I avoid or embrace asking questions of other developers on the job?

    - by T.K.
    As a CS undergraduate, the people around me are either learning or are paid to teach me, but as a software developer, the people around me have tasks of their own. They aren't paid to teach me, and conversely, I am paid to contribute. When I first started working as a software developer co-op, I was introduced to a huge code base written in a language I had never used before. I had plenty of questions, but didn't want to bother my co-workers with all of them - it wasted their time and hurt my pride. Instead, I spent a lot of time bouncing between IDE and browser, trying to make sense of what had already been written and differentiate between expected behavior and symptoms of bugs. I'd ask my co-workers when I felt that the root of my lack of understanding was an in-house concept that I wouldn't find on the internet, but aside from that, I tried to confine my questions to lunch hours. Naturally, there were occasions where I wasted time trying to understand something in code on the internet that had, at its heart, an in-house concept, but overall, I felt I was productive enough during my first semester, contributing about as much as one could expect and gaining a pretty decent understanding of large parts of the product. I was wondering what senior developers felt about that mindset. Should new developers ask more questions to get to speed faster, or should they do their own research for themselves? I see benefits to both mindsets, and anticipate a large variety of responses, but I figure new developers might appreciate your answers without thinking to ask this question.

  • Is changing my job now a wise decision? [closed]

    - by FlaminPhoenix
    First a little background about myself. I am a javascript programmer with 3.8 years of experience. I joined my current company a year and 3 months ago, and I was recruited as a javascript programmer. I was under the impression I was a programmer in a programming team but this was not the case. No one else except me and my manager knows anything about programming in my team. The other two teammates, copy paste stuff from websites into excel sheets. I was told I was being recruited for a new project, and it was true. The only problem was that the server side language they were using was PHP. They were using a popular library with PHP, and I had never worked with PHP before. Nevertheless, I learnt it well enough to get things working, and received high praise from my boss's boss on whichever project I worked on. Words like "wow" , "This looks great, the clients gonna be impressed with this." were sprinkled every now and then on reviewing my work. They even managed to sell my work to a couple of clients and as I understand, both of my projects are going to fetch them a pretty buck. The problem: I was asked to move into a project which my manager was handling. I asked them for training on the project which never came, and sure enough I couldnt complete my first task on the new project without shortcomings. I told my manager there were things I didnt know how to get done in the new project due to lack of training. His project had 0 documentation. I was told he would "take care" of everything relating to those shortcomings. In the meantime, I was asked to switch to another project. My manager made the necessary changes and later told me that the build had "broken" on the production server and that I needed to "test" my changes before saying things were done. I never deployed it on the production server. He did. I never saw / had the opportunity to see the final build before it went to production. He called me for a separate meeting and started pointing fingers at me, but I took full responsibility even if I didnt have to. He later on got on a call with his boss, in my presence, and gave him the impression that it was all my fault. I did not confront him about this so far. I have worked late / done overtime without them asking a lot, but last week, I just got home from work, and I got calls asking me to solve an issue which till then they had kept quiet about even though they were informed about it. I asked my manager why I hadnt been tasked with this when I was in office. He started telling me which statements to put where, as if to mock me, and that this "is hardly an overtime issue" and this pissed me off. Also, during the previous meeting, he was constantly talking highly about his work, at the same time trying to demean mine. In the meantime, I have attended an interview with another MNC, and the interviewers there were fully respectful of my decision to leave my current company. Its a software company, so I can expect my colleagues to know a lot more than me. Im told I can expect their offer anytime this week. My questions: Is my anger towards my manager justified? While leaving, do I tell him that its because of his actions that Im leaving? Do I erupt in anger and tell him that he shouldnt have put the blame on me since he was the one doing the deployment? This is going to be my second resignation to this company. The first time I wanted to resign, I was asked to stay back and my manager promised a lot of changes, a couple of which were made. How do I keep myself from getting into such situations with my employers in the future?

  • What job is most similar to being a DBA?

    - by fatherjack
    As long as I have worked with computers, and that's a length of time that may be easier on the eye when converted to dog-years, computers have been compared with cars. I guess the car was the most complicated thing in our lives until the PC arrived. We had plenty of time to get used to the car and how it worked, or not, and how it gradually became more complex. We can compare backups to spare tyres, CPU cores to pistons ("the more you blow, the faster you go"), and so on. I am not aware...(read more)

  • Don't speak to the DBA while he/she is doing the job?!

    - by Uri Dimant
    Our DBA was very busy today, he helped out our developers to write efficient code,explained to the programmer how to launch the old DTS package on SQL Server 2005 and etc. You know how it is, someone comes in and asking the question and you answer the question at the same time you are busy to do something. So  today answering one of such questions he deleted by mistake very ctitical database. Fortunately, we had zero data loss,thanks to our backup/recovery strategy. I think that is acceptable to say that you are busy right now ,please ask the question later on, what do you think? How do you respond if someone asks you a queston while you are doing something on the server/database and etc.?   Share this post: email it! | bookmark it! | digg it! | reddit! | kick it! | live it!

  • What is the purpose of a logic question test in an IT Job Interview? [closed]

    - by KPO
    I went to interview a week ago for an IT position pertaining to tech support at Ameriprise. I applied and they liked my resume and experience. They then asked me to come in for the "first base." I went in and they gave me 20 logic questions out of which I got 9 correct. After that he told me that they will call me to let me know in 1 week. Does getting 9/20 right on a test like that means I will be rejected OR is it a way for them to know how I think? Please let me know. Thanks!

  • Building an interleaved buffer for pyopengl and numpy

    - by Nick Sonneveld
    I'm trying to batch up a bunch of vertices and texture coords in an interleaved array before sending it to pyOpengl's glInterleavedArrays/glDrawArrays. The only problem is that I'm unable to find a suitably fast enough way to append data into a numpy array. Is there a better way to do this? I would have thought it would be quicker to preallocate the array and then fill it with data but instead, generating a python list and converting it to a numpy array is "faster". Although 15ms for 4096 quads seems slow. I have included some example code and their timings. #!/usr/bin/python import timeit import numpy import ctypes import random USE_RANDOM=True USE_STATIC_BUFFER=True STATIC_BUFFER = numpy.empty(4096*20, dtype=numpy.float32) def render(i): # pretend these are different each time if USE_RANDOM: tex_left, tex_right, tex_top, tex_bottom = random.random(), random.random(), random.random(), random.random() left, right, top, bottom = random.random(), random.random(), random.random(), random.random() else: tex_left, tex_right, tex_top, tex_bottom = 0.0, 1.0, 1.0, 0.0 left, right, top, bottom = -1.0, 1.0, 1.0, -1.0 ibuffer = ( tex_left, tex_bottom, left, bottom, 0.0, # Lower left corner tex_right, tex_bottom, right, bottom, 0.0, # Lower right corner tex_right, tex_top, right, top, 0.0, # Upper right corner tex_left, tex_top, left, top, 0.0, # upper left ) return ibuffer # create python list.. convert to numpy array at end def create_array_1(): ibuffer = [] for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) ibuffer += data ibuffer = numpy.array(ibuffer, dtype=numpy.float32) return ibuffer # numpy.array, placing individually by index def create_array_2(): if USE_STATIC_BUFFER: ibuffer = STATIC_BUFFER else: ibuffer = numpy.empty(4096*20, dtype=numpy.float32) index = 0 for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) for v in data: ibuffer[index] = v index += 1 return ibuffer # using slicing def create_array_3(): if USE_STATIC_BUFFER: ibuffer = STATIC_BUFFER else: ibuffer = numpy.empty(4096*20, dtype=numpy.float32) index = 0 for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) ibuffer[index:index+20] = data index += 20 return ibuffer # using numpy.concat on a list of ibuffers def create_array_4(): ibuffer_concat = [] for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) # converting makes a diff! data = numpy.array(data, dtype=numpy.float32) ibuffer_concat.append(data) return numpy.concatenate(ibuffer_concat) # using numpy array.put def create_array_5(): if USE_STATIC_BUFFER: ibuffer = STATIC_BUFFER else: ibuffer = numpy.empty(4096*20, dtype=numpy.float32) index = 0 for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) ibuffer.put( xrange(index, index+20), data) index += 20 return ibuffer # using ctype array CTYPES_ARRAY = ctypes.c_float*(4096*20) def create_array_6(): ibuffer = [] for x in xrange(4096): data = render(x) ibuffer += data ibuffer = CTYPES_ARRAY(*ibuffer) return ibuffer def equals(a, b): for i,v in enumerate(a): if b[i] != v: return False return True if __name__ == "__main__": number = 100 # if random, don't try and compare arrays if not USE_RANDOM and not USE_STATIC_BUFFER: a = create_array_1() assert equals( a, create_array_2() ) assert equals( a, create_array_3() ) assert equals( a, create_array_4() ) assert equals( a, create_array_5() ) assert equals( a, create_array_6() ) t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_1()", "import testing2" ) print 'from list:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_2()", "import testing2" ) print 'array: indexed:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_3()", "import testing2" ) print 'array: slicing:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_4()", "import testing2" ) print 'array: concat:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_5()", "import testing2" ) print 'array: put:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' t = timeit.Timer( "testing2.create_array_6()", "import testing2" ) print 'ctypes float array:', t.timeit(number)/number*1000.0, 'ms' Timings using random numbers: $ python testing2.py from list: 15.0486779213 ms array: indexed: 24.8184704781 ms array: slicing: 50.2214789391 ms array: concat: 44.1691994667 ms array: put: 73.5879898071 ms ctypes float array: 20.6674289703 ms edit note: changed code to produce random numbers for each render to reduce object reuse and to simulate different vertices each time. edit note2: added static buffer and force all numpy.empty() to use dtype=float32 note 1/Apr/2010: still no progress and I don't really feel that any of the answers have solved the problem yet.

  • Ubuntu's garbage collection cron job for PHP sessions takes 25 minutes to run, why?

    - by Lamah
    Ubuntu has a cron job set up which looks for and deletes old PHP sessions: # Look for and purge old sessions every 30 minutes 09,39 * * * * root [ -x /usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime ] \ && [ -d /var/lib/php5 ] && find /var/lib/php5/ -depth -mindepth 1 \ -maxdepth 1 -type f -cmin +$(/usr/lib/php5/maxlifetime) ! -execdir \ fuser -s {} 2> /dev/null \; -delete My problem is that this process is taking a very long time to run, with lots of disk IO. Here's my CPU usage graph: The cleanup running is represented by the teal spikes. At the beginning of the period, PHP's cleanup jobs were scheduled at the default 09 and 39 minutes times. At 15:00 I removed the 39 minute time from cron, so a cleanup job twice the size runs half as often (you can see the peaks get twice as wide and half as frequent). Here are the corresponding graphs for IO time: And disk operations: At the peak where there were about 14,000 sessions active, the cleanup can be seen to run for a full 25 minutes, apparently using 100% of one core of the CPU and what seems to be 100% of the disk IO for the entire period. Why is it so resource intensive? An ls of the session directory /var/lib/php5 takes just a fraction of a second. So why does it take a full 25 minutes to trim old sessions? Is there anything I can do to speed this up? The filesystem for this device is currently ext4, running on Ubuntu Precise 12.04 64-bit. EDIT: I suspect that the load is due to the unusual process "fuser" (since I expect a simple rm to be a damn sight faster than the performance I'm seeing). I'm going to remove the use of fuser and see what happens.

  • CakePHP Multiple Nested Joins

    - by Paul
    I have an App in which several of the models are linked by hasMany/belongsTo associations. So for instance, A hasMany B, B hasMany C, C hasMany D, and D hasMany E. Also, E belongs to D, D belongs to C, C belongs to B, and B belongs to A. Using the Containable behavior has been great for controlling the amount of information comes back with each query, but I seem to be having a problem when trying to get data from table A while using a condition that involves table D. For instance, here is an example of my 'A' model: class A extends AppModel { var $name = 'A'; var $hasMany = array( 'B' => array('dependent' => true) ); function findDependentOnE($condition) { return $this->find('all', array( 'contain' => array( 'B' => array( 'C' => array( 'D' => array( 'E' => array( 'conditions' => array( 'E.myfield' => $some_value ) ) ) ) ) ) )); } } This still gives me back all the records in 'A', and if it's related 'E' records don't satisfy the condition, then I just get this: Array( [0] => array( [A] => array( [field1] => // stuff [field2] => // more stuff // ...etc ), [B] => array( [field1] => // stuff [field2] => // more stuff // ...etc ), [C] => array( [field1] => // stuff [field2] => // more stuff // ...etc ), [D] => array( [field1] => // stuff [field2] => // more stuff // ...etc ), [E] => array( // empty if 'E.myfield' != $some_value' ) ), [1] => array( // ...etc ) ) When If 'E.myfield' != $some_value, I don't want the record returned at all. I hope this expresses my problem clearly enough... Basically, I want the following query, but in a database-agnostic/CakePHP-y kind of way: SELECT * FROM A INNER JOIN (B INNER JOIN (C INNER JOIN (D INNER JOIN E ON D.id=E.d_id) ON C.id=D.c_id) ON B.id=C.b_id) ON A.id=B.a_id WHERE E.myfield = $some_value

  • Correct way to use Drupal 7 Entities and Field API

    - by Martin Petts
    I'm trying to use Drupal 7's entities and field API to correctly build a new module. What I have been unable to understand from the documentation is the correct way to use the new API to create a 'content type' (not a node type) with a number of set fields, such as Body. I'm trying to set up the entity using hook_entity_info, then I believe I need to add the body field using field_create_instance, but I can't seem to get it to work. In mycontenttype.module: /** * Implements hook_entity_info(). */ function mycontenttype_entity_info() { $return = array( 'mycontenttype' => array( 'label' => t('My Content Type'), 'controller class' => 'MyContentTypeEntityController', 'base table' => 'content_type', 'uri callback' => 'content_type_uri', 'entity keys' => array( 'id' => 'cid', 'label' => 'title' ), 'bundles' => array( 'mycontenttype' => array( 'label' => 'My Content Type', 'admin' => array( 'path' => 'admin/contenttype', 'access arguments' => array('administer contenttype') ) ) ), 'fieldable' => true ) ); return $return; } /** * Implements hook_field_extra_fields(). */ function mycontenttype_field_extra_fields() { $return['mycontenttype']['mycontenttype'] = array( 'form' = array( 'body' = array( 'label' = 'Body', 'description' = t('Body content'), 'weight' = 0, ), ), ); return $return; } Then does this go in the .install file? function mycontenttype_install() { $field = array( 'field_name' => 'body', 'type' => 'text_with_summary', 'entity_types' => array('survey'), 'translatable' => TRUE, ); field_create_field($field); $instance = array( 'entity_type' => 'mycontenttype', 'field_name' => 'body', 'bundle' => 'mycontenttype', 'label' => 'Body', 'widget_type' => 'text_textarea_with_summary', 'settings' => array('display_summary' => TRUE), 'display' => array( 'default' => array( 'label' => 'hidden', 'type' => 'text_default', ), 'teaser' => array( 'label' => 'hidden', 'type' => 'text_summary_or_trimmed', ) ) ); field_create_instance($instance); }

  • Retrieving Json Array

    - by Rahul Varma
    Hi, I am trying to retrieve the values from the following url: http://rentopoly.com/ajax.php?query=Bo. I want to get the values of all the suggestions to be displayed in a list view one by one. This is how i want to do... public class AlertsAdd { public ArrayList<JSONObject> retrieveJSONArray(String urlString) { String result = queryRESTurl(urlString); ArrayList<JSONObject> ALERTS = new ArrayList<JSONObject>(); if (result != null) { try { JSONObject json = new JSONObject(result); JSONArray alertsArray = json.getJSONArray("suggestions"); for (int a = 0; a < alertsArray.length(); a++) { JSONObject alertitem = alertsArray.getJSONObject(a); ALERTS.add(alertitem); } return ALERTS; } catch (JSONException e) { Log.e("JSON", "There was an error parsing the JSON", e); } } JSONObject myObject = new JSONObject(); try { myObject.put("suggestions",myObject.getJSONArray("suggestions")); ALERTS.add(myObject); } catch (JSONException e1) { Log.e("JSON", "There was an error creating the JSONObject", e1); } return ALERTS; } private String queryRESTurl(String url) { // URLConnection connection; HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(url); HttpResponse response; try { response = httpclient.execute(httpget); HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); if (entity != null) { InputStream instream = entity.getContent(); String result = convertStreamToString(instream); instream.close(); return result; } } catch (ClientProtocolException e) { Log.e("REST", "There was a protocol based error", e); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("REST", "There was an IO Stream related error", e); } return null; } /** * To convert the InputStream to String we use the * BufferedReader.readLine() method. • Grails JSON array

    - by armandino
    I'm converting a list of Foo objects to a JSON string. I need to parse the JSON string back into a list of Foos. However in the following example, parsing gives me a list of JSONObjects instead of Foos. Example List list = [new Foo("first"), new Foo("second")] def jsonString = (list as JSON).toString() List parsedList = JSON.parse(jsonString) as List println parsedList[0].getClass() // org.codehaus.groovy.grails.web.json.JSONObject How can I parse it into Foos instead? Thanks in advance.

  • c# find nearest match to array of doubles

    - by Scott
    Given the code below, how do I compare a List of objects's values with a test value? I'm building a geolocation application. I'll be passing in longitude and latitude and would like to have the service answer back with the location closest to those values. I started down the path of converting to a string, and formatting the values down to two decimal places, but that seemed a bit too ghetto, and I'm looking for a more elegant solution. Any help would be great. Thanks, Scott public class Location : IEnumerable { public string label { get; set; } public double lat { get; set; } public double lon { get; set; } //Implement IEnumerable public IEnumerator GetEnumerator() { return (IEnumerator)this; } } [HandleError] public class HomeController : Controller { private List<Location> myList = new List<Location> { new Location { label="Atlanta Midtown", lon=33.657674, lat=-84.423130}, new Location { label="Atlanta Airport", lon=33.794151, lat=-84.387228}, new Location { label="Stamford, CT", lon=41.053758, lat=-73.530979}, ... } public static int Main(String[] args) { string inLat = "-80.987654"; double dblInLat = double.Parse(inLat); // here's where I would like to find the closest location to the inLat // once I figure out this, I'll implement the Longitude, and I'll be set }

  • .net XML serialization: how to specify an array's root element and child element names

    - by Jeremy
    Consider the following serializable classes: class Item {...} class Items : List<Item> {...} class MyClass { public string Name {get;set;} public Items MyItems {get;set;} } I want the serialized output to look like: <MyClass> <Name>string</Name> <ItemValues> <ItemValue></ItemValue> <ItemValue></ItemValue> <ItemValue></ItemValue> </ItemValues> </MyClass> Notice the element names ItemValues and ItemValue doesn't match the class names Item and Items, assuming I can't change the Item or Items class, is there any why to specify the element names I want, by modifying the MyClass Class?

  • Java: micro-optimizing array manipulation

    - by Martin Wiboe
    Hello all, I am trying to make a Java port of a simple feed-forward neural network. This obviously involves lots of numeric calculations, so I am trying to optimize my central loop as much as possible. The results should be correct within the limits of the float data type. My current code looks as follows (error handling & initialization removed): /** * Simple implementation of a feedforward neural network. The network supports * including a bias neuron with a constant output of 1.0 and weighted synapses * to hidden and output layers. * * @author Martin Wiboe */ public class FeedForwardNetwork { private final int outputNeurons; // No of neurons in output layer private final int inputNeurons; // No of neurons in input layer private int largestLayerNeurons; // No of neurons in largest layer private final int numberLayers; // No of layers private final int[] neuronCounts; // Neuron count in each layer, 0 is input // layer. private final float[][][] fWeights; // Weights between neurons. // fWeight[fromLayer][fromNeuron][toNeuron] // is the weight from fromNeuron in // fromLayer to toNeuron in layer // fromLayer+1. private float[][] neuronOutput; // Temporary storage of output from previous layer public float[] compute(float[] input) { // Copy input values to input layer output for (int i = 0; i < inputNeurons; i++) { neuronOutput[0][i] = input[i]; } // Loop through layers for (int layer = 1; layer < numberLayers; layer++) { // Loop over neurons in the layer and determine weighted input sum for (int neuron = 0; neuron < neuronCounts[layer]; neuron++) { // Bias neuron is the last neuron in the previous layer int biasNeuron = neuronCounts[layer - 1]; // Get weighted input from bias neuron - output is always 1.0 float activation = 1.0F * fWeights[layer - 1][biasNeuron][neuron]; // Get weighted inputs from rest of neurons in previous layer for (int inputNeuron = 0; inputNeuron < biasNeuron; inputNeuron++) { activation += neuronOutput[layer-1][inputNeuron] * fWeights[layer - 1][inputNeuron][neuron]; } // Store neuron output for next round of computation neuronOutput[layer][neuron] = sigmoid(activation); } } // Return output from network = output from last layer float[] result = new float[outputNeurons]; for (int i = 0; i < outputNeurons; i++) result[i] = neuronOutput[numberLayers - 1][i]; return result; } private final static float sigmoid(final float input) { return (float) (1.0F / (1.0F + Math.exp(-1.0F * input))); } } I am running the JVM with the -server option, and as of now my code is between 25% and 50% slower than similar C code. What can I do to improve this situation? Thank you, Martin Wiboe

  • How do I return an Array from grails / jdo to Flex

    - by mswallace
    this seems really simple but I haven't gotten this to work. I am building my app with grails on google app engine. This pretty much requires you to use JDO. I am making an HTTP call from flex to my app. The action that I am calling on the grails end looks like so def returnShowsByDate = { def query = persistenceManager.newQuery( Show ) def showInstanceList = query.execute() return (List<Show>) showInstanceList } I have tried just returning "hello from grails" and that works just fine. I have alos tried the following return showInstanceList the JDO docs say the query.execute() returns a collection. Why I cant just return that to Flex I have no clue. Any thoughts?

  • Storing objects in the array

    - by Ockonal
    Hello, I want to save boost signals objects in the map (association: signal name ? signal object). The signals signature is different, so the second type of map should be boost::any. map<string, any> mSignalAssociation; The question is how to store objects without defining type of new signal signature? typedef boost::signals2::signal<void (int KeyCode)> sigKeyPressed; mSignalAssociation.insert(make_pair("KeyPressed", sigKeyPressed())); // This is what I need: passing object without type definition mSignalAssociation["KeyPressed"] = (typename boost::signals2::signal<void (int KeyCode)>()); // One more trying which won't work. And I don't want use this sigKeyPressed mKeyPressed; mSignalAssociation["KeyPressed"] = mKeyPressed; All this tryings throw the error: /usr/include/boost/noncopyable.hpp: In copy constructor ‘boost::signals2::signal_base::signal_base(const boost::signals2::signal_base&)’: In file included from /usr/include/boost/signals2/detail/signals_common.hpp:17:0, /usr/include/boost/noncopyable.hpp:27:7: error: ‘boost::noncopyable_::noncopyable::noncopyable(const boost::noncopyable_::noncopyable&)’ is private /usr/include/boost/signals2/signal_base.hpp:22:5: error: within this context ---------- /usr/include/boost/signals2/detail/signal_template.hpp: In copy constructor ‘boost::signals2::signal1<void, int&, boost::signals2::optional_last_value<void>, int, std::less<int>, boost::function<void(int)>, boost::function<void(const boost::signals2::connection&, int)>, boost::signals2::mutex>::signal1(const boost::signals2::signal1<void, int, boost::signals2::optional_last_value<void>, int, std::less<int>, boost::function<void(int)>, boost::function<void(const boost::signals2::connection&, int)>, boost::signals2::mutex>&)’: In file included from /usr/include/boost/preprocessor/iteration/detail/iter/forward1.hpp:52:0, /usr/include/boost/signals2/detail/signal_template.hpp:578:5: note: synthesized method ‘boost::signals2::signal_base::signal_base(const boost::signals2::signal_base&)’ first required here from /usr/include/boost/signals2.hpp:16, --------- /usr/include/boost/signals2/preprocessed_signal.hpp: In copy constructor ‘boost::signals2::signal<void(int)>::signal(const boost::signals2::signal<void(int)>&)’: In file included from /usr/include/boost/signals2/signal.hpp:36:0, /usr/include/boost/signals2/preprocessed_signal.hpp:42:5: note: synthesized method ‘boost::signals2::signal1<void, int, boost::signals2::optional_last_value<void>, int, std::less<int>, boost::function<void(int)>, boost::function<void(const boost::signals2::connection&, int)>, boost::signals2::mutex>::signal1(const boost::signals2::signal1<void, int, boost::signals2::optional_last_value<void>, int, std::less<int>, boost::function<void(int)>, boost::function<void(const boost::signals2::connection&, int)>, boost::signals2::mutex>&)’ first required here from /home/ockonal/Workspace/Projects/Pseudoform-2/include/Core/Systems.hpp:6,

  • insert multiple rows via a php array into mysql

    - by toofarsideways
    I'm passing a large dataset into a mysql table via php using insert commands and I'm wondering if its possible to insert approximately 1000 rows at a time via a query other than appending each value on the end of an mile long string and then executing it. I am using the codeigniter framework so its functions are also available to me.

  • How to generate multiple levels with GraphViz (Image_Graphviz interface for PHP)

    - by ropstah
    Hi, i'm trying to generate the following diagram using Image_GraphViz for PEAR. However It only shows a top-level node (with the text "0") and childnodes "1", "2", "3" and "4" directly under the top-node. Am I missing something? This is the code: $gv = new Image_GraphViz(true); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2')); $gv->addEdge(array('2', '3')); $gv->addEdge(array('2', '4')); $gv->addEdge(array('3', '5')); $gv->addEdge(array('3', '6')); $gv->addEdge(array('3', '7')); $gv->addEdge(array('4', '5')); echo $gv->fetch('svg'); I tried the following, but this is obviously wrong :). $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '3')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '4')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '3', '5')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '3', '6')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '3', '7')); $gv->addEdge(array('1', '2', '4', '5')); I understand there are two ways to get to 5. Through (1, 2, 3, 5) and/or (1, 2, 4, 5). The image should just show two lines going to 5. I'm very confused, any suggestions?

  • Populating array of input fields as alternate fields using jQuery UI datepicker

    - by Micor
    I am using jquery ui datepicker in order to populate start and end dates for multiple events on the same page, the number of events is dynamic and I need to post day, month and year as separate fields, so I have something like this: <input type="text" name="event[0].startDate" class="date"/> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].startDate_day" class="startDate_day" /> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].startDate_month" class="startDate_month" /> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].startDate_year" class="startDate_year" /> <input type="text" name="event[0].endDate" class="date"/> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].endDate_day" class="endDate_day" /> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].endDate_month" class="endDate_month" /> <input type="hidden" name="event[0].endDate_year" class="startDate_year" /> event[1]... event[2]... I started working on jQuery functionality and this is what I have so far, which will populate alternate fields for startDate by class, of course it will not do what I need because I need to populate by field name rather then class: $(".date").datepicker({ onClose: function(dateText,picker) { $('.startDate_month').val( dateText.split(/\//)[0] ); $('.startDate_day').val( dateText.split(/\//)[1] ); $('.startDate_year').val( dateText.split(/\//)[2] ); }}); I need help figuring out how can I get the name of the input field within datepicker function so the alternate field assignment done by that field name + _day, month, year so this function can work for all the events on the page, making function above look more like: $(".date").datepicker({ onClose: function(dateText,picker) { $('input[' + $name + '_month' + ']').val( dateText.split(/\//)[0] ); $('input[' + $name + '_day' + ']').val( dateText.split(/\//)[1] ); $('input[' + $name + '_year' + ']').val( dateText.split(/\//)[2] ); }}); Hope that makes sense :) Thanks
