• Optimize date query for large child tables: GiST or GIN?

    - by Dave Jarvis
Problem 72 child tables, each having a year index and a station index, are defined as follows: CREATE TABLE climate.measurement_12_013 ( -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: id bigint NOT NULL DEFAULT nextval('climate.measurement_id_seq'::regclass), -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: station_id integer NOT NULL, -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: taken date NOT NULL, -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: amount numeric(8,2) NOT NULL, -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: category_id smallint NOT NULL, -- Inherited from table climate.measurement_12_013: flag character varying(1) NOT NULL DEFAULT ' '::character varying, CONSTRAINT measurement_12_013_category_id_check CHECK (category_id = 7), CONSTRAINT measurement_12_013_taken_check CHECK (date_part('month'::text, taken)::integer = 12) ) INHERITS (climate.measurement) CREATE INDEX measurement_12_013_s_idx ON climate.measurement_12_013 USING btree (station_id); CREATE INDEX measurement_12_013_y_idx ON climate.measurement_12_013 USING btree (date_part('year'::text, taken)); (Foreign key constraints to be added later.) The following query runs abysmally slow due to a full table scan: SELECT count(1) AS measurements, avg(m.amount) AS amount FROM climate.measurement m WHERE m.station_id IN ( SELECT s.id FROM climate.station s, climate.city c WHERE -- For one city ... -- c.id = 5182 AND -- Where stations are within an elevation range ... -- s.elevation BETWEEN 0 AND 3000 AND 6371.009 * SQRT( POW(RADIANS(c.latitude_decimal - s.latitude_decimal), 2) + (COS(RADIANS(c.latitude_decimal + s.latitude_decimal) / 2) * POW(RADIANS(c.longitude_decimal - s.longitude_decimal), 2)) ) <= 50 ) AND -- -- Begin extracting the data from the database. -- -- The data before 1900 is shaky; insufficient after 2009. -- extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) BETWEEN 1900 AND 2009 AND -- Whittled down by category ... -- m.category_id = 1 AND m.taken BETWEEN -- Start date. (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date AND -- End date. Calculated by checking to see if the end date wraps -- into the next year. If it does, then add 1 to the current year. -- (cast(extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) + greatest( -1 * sign( (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-12-31')::date - (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date ), 0 ) AS text)||'-12-31')::date GROUP BY extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) The sluggishness comes from this part of the query: m.taken BETWEEN /* Start date. */ (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date AND /* End date. Calculated by checking to see if the end date wraps into the next year. If it does, then add 1 to the current year. */ (cast(extract( YEAR FROM m.taken ) + greatest( -1 * sign( (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-12-31')::date - (extract( YEAR FROM m.taken )||'-01-01')::date ), 0 ) AS text)||'-12-31')::date The HashAggregate from the plan shows a cost of 10006220141.11, which is, I suspect, on the astronomically huge side. There is a full table scan on the measurement table (itself having neither data nor indexes) being performed. The table aggregates 237 million rows from its child tables. Question What is the proper way to index the dates to avoid full table scans? Options I have considered: GIN GiST Rewrite the WHERE clause Separate year_taken, month_taken, and day_taken columns to the tables What are your thoughts? Thank you!

  • How do I use QXmlQuery properly? (Qt XQuery/XPath)

    - by Steven Jackson
    I'm using the following code to load in an XML file (actually an NZB): QXmlQuery query; query.bindVariable("path", QVariant(path)); query.setQuery("doc($path)/nzb/file/segments/segment/string()"); if(!query.isValid()) throw QString("Invalid query."); QStringList segments; if(!query.evaluateTo(&segments)) throw QString("Unable to evaluate..."); QString string; foreach(string, segments) qDebug() << "String: " << string; With the following input, it works as expected:   <nzb> <file> <groups> <group>alt.binaries.cd.image</group> </groups> <segments> <segment>[email protected]</segment> </segments> </file> </nzb> However, with the following input no results are returned. This is how the input should be formatted, with attributes:   <nzb xmlns="http://www.newzbin.com/DTD/2003/nzb"> <file poster="[email protected]" date="1225385180" subject="ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386 - ubuntu-8.10-desktop-i386.par2 (1/1)"> <groups> <group>alt.binaries.cd.image</group> </groups> <segments> <segment bytes="66196" number="1">[email protected]</segment> <segment bytes="661967" number="1">[email protected]</segment> </segments> </file> </nzb> Please can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • CVS to Mercurial conversion: end of line problem

    - by mizipzor
I recently converted a CVS repository to Mercurial. From the looks of it, everything went perfect. Except that every end-of-line character is in Unix style and I want them in Windows style. I know the hg convert command can be used to "convert" a Mercurial repository to a Mercurial repository. Can I use it to do nothing on the repos but fix the line endings?

  • Backslash escaping in RegularExpressionValidator

    - by frogbot
I need to ensure that the input value contains at least one dot, so i use the following: <asp:RegularExpressionValidator runat="server" ControlToValidate="MyInput" Text="*" ErrorMessage="must contain at least one dot" ValidationExpression="\.+" /> And that doesn't work. By inspecting the page source i can see that ASP.NET escapes the backslash character so in java-script it looks like "\\.+". Why does it do so and how do i prevent RegularExpressionValidator from escaping it?

  • How to set which version of the VC++ runtime Visual Studio 2005 targets

    - by TallGuy
I have an application that contains a VC++ project (along with C# projects). Previously, (i.e. during the last year or so) when a build has been done, Visual Studio 2005 appears to be targeting the VC++ runtime version 8.0.50727.762. At least, that is what the Assembly.dll.intermediate.manifest file is telling me: <assembly xmlns='urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1' manifestVersion='1.0'> <dependency> <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.CRT' version='8.0.50727.762' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> </dependentAssembly> </dependency> </assembly> This version number matches the Visual Studio 2005 version number. The application worked fine when deployed to the webserver. The sun was shining, the birds were singing and all was right with the world. Now something has changed. I don't know what - a security patch, an obscure Visual Studio setting or something. Now Visual Studio 2005 seems to be targeting the wrong version of the VC++ runtime: <assembly xmlns='urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1' manifestVersion='1.0'> <dependency> <dependentAssembly> <assemblyIdentity type='win32' name='Microsoft.VC80.CRT' version='8.0.50727.4053' processorArchitecture='x86' publicKeyToken='1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b' /> </dependentAssembly> </dependency> </assembly> When I deploy the application to the webserver, I get the dreaded This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B1) error. This problem occurs even when I recompile previous versions of the application. I can absolutely guarantee that nothing at all has changed in the solution - we zip up the entire contents of the solution as part of the build process and archive it. I have unzipped a number of these to a temp directory, verified that the previous manifest file refers to 8.0.50727.762, recompiled using exactly the same command at the command line and then verified that the new manifest file now refers to 8.0.50727.4053. I am using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600) and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 77646-008-0000007-41610. Why would Visual Studio revert to a previous version of the VC++ runtime? How do I specify which version it should use? What is going wrong here?

  • Import csv data (SDK iphone)

    - by Ni
I am new to cocoa. I have been working on these stuff for a few days. For the following code, i can read all the data in the string, and successfully get the data for plot. NSMutableArray *contentArray = [NSMutableArray array]; NSString *filePath = @"995,995,995,995,995,995,995,995,1000,997,995,994,992,993,992,989,988,987,990,993,989"; NSArray *myText = [filePath componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; NSInteger idx; for (idx = 0; idx < myText.count; idx++) { NSString *data =[myText objectAtIndex:idx]; NSLog(@"%@", data); id x = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:0+idx*0.002777778]; id y = [NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:data]; [contentArray addObject: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:x, @"x", y, @"y", nil]]; } self.dataForPlot = contentArray; then, i try to load the data from csv file. the data in Data.csv file has the same value and the same format as 995,995,995,995,995,995,995,995,1000,997,995,994,992,993,992,989,988,987,990,993,989. I run the code, it is supposed to give the same graph output. however, it seems that the data is not loaded from csv file successfully. i can not figure out what's wrong with my code. NSMutableArray *contentArray = [NSMutableArray array]; NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Data" ofType:@"csv"]; NSString *Data = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:filePath encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:nil ]; if (Data) { NSArray *myText = [Data componentsSeparatedByString:@","]; NSInteger idx; for (idx = 0; idx < myText.count; idx++) { NSString *data =[myText objectAtIndex:idx]; NSLog(@"%@", data); id x = [NSNumber numberWithFloat:0+idx*0.002777778]; id y = [NSDecimalNumber decimalNumberWithString:data]; [contentArray addObject: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys:x, @"x", y, @"y",nil]]; } self.dataForPlot = contentArray; } The only difference is NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Data" ofType:@"csv"]; NSString *Data = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:filePath encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:nil ]; if (data){ } did i do anything wrong here?? Thanks for your help!!!!

  • In Flex, how to drag a component into a column of DataGrid (not the whole DataGrid)?

    - by Yousui
    Hi guys, I have a custom component: <s:Group xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"> <fx:Declarations> </fx:Declarations> <fx:Script> [Bindable] public var label:String = "don't know"; [Bindable] public var imageName:String = "x.gif"; </fx:Script> <s:HGroup paddingLeft="8" paddingTop="8" paddingRight="8" paddingBottom="8"> <mx:Image id="img" source="assets/{imageName}" /> <s:Label text="{label}"/> </s:HGroup> </s:Group> and a custom render, which will be used in my DataGrid: <s:MXDataGridItemRenderer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" focusEnabled="true" xmlns:components="components.*"> <s:VGroup> <components:Person label="{dataGridListData.label}"> </components:Person> </s:VGroup> </s:MXDataGridItemRenderer> This is my application: <s:Application xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx" minWidth="955" minHeight="600" xmlns:services="services.*"> <s:layout> <s:VerticalLayout/> </s:layout> <fx:Script> import mx.collections.ArrayCollection; import mx.controls.Alert; import mx.controls.Image; import mx.rpc.events.ResultEvent; import mx.utils.ArrayUtil; </fx:Script> <fx:Declarations> <fx:XMLList id="employees"> <employee>
<phone>555-219-2270</phone>
<active>true</active>
</employee> <employee>
<phone>555-219-2012</phone>
<active>true</active>
</employee> <employee>
<phone>555-219-2012</phone>
<active>false</active>
</employee> <employee>
<phone>555-219-2000</phone>
<active>true</active>
</employee> </fx:XMLList> </fx:Declarations> <s:HGroup> <mx:DataGrid dataProvider="{employees}" width="100%" dropEnabled="true"> <mx:columns> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Employee Name" dataField="name"/> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Email" dataField="email"/> <mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Image" dataField="image" itemRenderer="renderers.render1"/> </mx:columns> </mx:DataGrid> <s:List dragEnabled="true" dragMoveEnabled="false"> <s:dataProvider> <s:ArrayCollection> <fx:String>aaa</fx:String> <fx:String>bbb</fx:String> <fx:String>ccc</fx:String> <fx:String>ddd</fx:String> </s:ArrayCollection> </s:dataProvider> </s:List> </s:HGroup> </s:Application> Now what I want to do is let the user drag an one or more item from the left List component and drop at the third column of the DataGrid, then using the dragged data to create another <components:Person /> object. So in the final result, maybe the first line contains just one <components:Person /> object at the third column, the second line contains two <components:Person /> object at the third column and so on. Can this be implemented in Flex? How? Great thanks.

  • (resolved) empty response body in ajax (or 206 Partial Content)

    - by Nikita Rybak
Hi guys, I'm feeling completely stupid because I've spent two hours solving task which should be very simple and which I solved many times before. But now I'm not even sure in which direction to dig. I fail to fetch static content using ajax from local servers (Apache and Mongrel). I get responses 200 and 206 (depending on the server), empty response text (although Content-Length header is always correct), firebug shows request in red. Javascript is very generic, I'm getting same results even here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/tryit.asp?filename=tryajax_first (just change document location to 'http://localhost:3000/whatever') So, it's probably not the cause. Well, now I'm out of ideas. I can also post http headers, if it'll help. Thanks! • Favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings?

    - by hoytster
Stack Overflow has covered favorite short-cuts and add-ins, optimizations and preferences -- great topics all. If this one has been covered, I can't find it -- so thanks in advance for the link. What are your favorite Visual Studio keyboard remappings? Mine are motivated by the fact that I'm a touch-typist. Mouse, function keys, arrow keys, Home, End -- bleh. These are commands I do all day every day, so I've remapped them to sequences I can execute without moving my hands from the home row. The command that is remapped in Tools = Customize = [Keyboard] is shown in parentheses. I'm 100% positive that there are better remappings than these, so please post yours!
