  • Google App Engine - Dealing with concurrency issues of storing an object

    - by Spines
My User object that I want to create and store in the datastore has an email, and a username. How do I make sure when creating my User object that another User object doesn't also have either the same email or the same username? If I just do a query to see if any other users have already used the username or the email, then there could be a race condition. UPDATE: The solution I'm currently considering is to use the MemCache to implement a locking mechanism. I would acquire 2 locks before trying to store the User object in the datastore. First a lock that locks based on email, then another that locks based on username. Since creating new User objects only happens at user registration time, and it's even rarer that two people try to use either the same username or the same email, I think it's okay to take the performance hit of locking. I'm thinking of using the MemCache locking code that is here: http://appengine-cookbook.appspot.com/recipe/mutex-using-memcache-api/ What do you guys think?

  • Getting Outlook calendar items based on subject

    - by EKS
    I'm trying to get a list of calendar objects from exchange and sorting them based on subject. The part of of getting the objects just based on date and sorting out via subject is in "code" is now working, but i want to do a sort on subject in the "sql" first, but im unable to make it work ( Currently getting error from exchange saying the query is wrong. The line I added is: + "AND lcase(\"urn:schemas:calendar:subject\") = 'onsite%' " What I want is the ability to catch all appointments that start with onsite, both in upper and lower case. strQuery = "<?xml version=\"1.0\"?>" + "<g:searchrequest xmlns:g=\"DAV:\">" + "<g:sql>SELECT \"urn:schemas:calendar:location\", \"urn:schemas:httpmail:subject\", " + "\"urn:schemas:calendar:dtstart\", \"urn:schemas:calendar:dtend\", " + "\"urn:schemas:calendar:busystatus\", \"urn:schemas:calendar:instancetype\" " + "FROM Scope('SHALLOW TRAVERSAL OF \"" + strCalendarURI + "\"') " + "WHERE NOT \"urn:schemas:calendar:instancetype\" = 1 " + "AND \"DAV:contentclass\" = 'urn:content-classes:appointment' " + "AND \"urn:schemas:calendar:dtstart\" > '2003/06/01 00:00:00' " //'" + DateString + "'" + "AND lcase(\"urn:schemas:calendar:subject\") = 'onsite' " + "ORDER BY \"urn:schemas:calendar:dtstart\" ASC" + "</g:sql></g:searchrequest>";

  • 3d model viewer in Flash or Java

    - by Magnetic_dud
I want to show a box in 3d on my website, and I was thinking to do it in Flash. How I can show a 3d model? I need something very simple, it's a textured cube, no interaction required, just let the user pan and zoom. There is a 3ds viewer in flash or something like that? Java is also ok (but flash is preferred)

  • populate object graph from database

    - by Rama
Hi, I would like to know the best way to populate an object that has a collection of child objects and each child object may inturn have a collection of objects, from database without making multiple calls to the database to get child objects for each object. basically in hierarchical format something like for example a customer has orders and each order has order items. is it best to retrieve the data in xml format (SQL server 2005), or retrieve a dataset by joining the related tables together and then map that the data to the object? thanks in advance for your help.

  • Accessing property of object vs variable in javascript

    - by Samuel
Why when I try to access a variable that don't exist, javascript throw an exception but when I try to access a property that don't exist in an object, javascript returns an undefined object? For example, this case returns an undefined object: function Foo(){ console.log(this.bar); } Foo(); But, in this other example, javascript throw an exception: function Foo(){ console.log(bar); } Foo(); ReferenceError: bar is not defined

  • Value Object and View Model Property

    - by William
I am working on a solution that used DDD for architecture. I have a property in my ViewModel which points to a ValueObject, the view model also implements INotifyPropertyChanged interface. The value of the ValueObject will change as a user enters data on the front end. The problem I am running into is the value object is suppose to be immutable. How can I work around this issue? Thank you in advance.

  • In partial view: "The model item passed into the dictionary is of type"

    - by Dave
I lack understanding of some basic MVC concepts, despite all my searching. I created an MVC project in Visual Studio, which contains the partial view _LogOnPartial.shtml. I just want to access information within the view pertaining to the user, to put in a user dropdown menu. When I try to put this at the top of the partial view cshtml page I get the above error: @model MyProject_MVC.Models.UserRepository When I try this I also get an error: @Html.Partial("_LogOnPartial", MyProject_MVC.Models.UserRepository) 'MyProject_MVC.Models.UserRepository' is a 'type', which is not valid in the given context

  • populate CoreData data model from JSON files prior to app start

    - by johannes_d
I am creating an iPad App that displays data I got from an API in JSON format. My Core Data model has several entities(Countries, Events, Talks, ...). For each entity I have one .json file that contains all instances of the entity and its attributes as well as its relationships. I would like to populate my Core Data data model with these entities before the start of the App (otherwise it takes about 15 minutes for the iPad to create all the instances of the entities from the several JSON files using factory methods). I am currently importing the data into CoreData like this: -(void)fetchDataIntoDocument:(UIManagedDocument *)document { dispatch_queue_t dataQ = dispatch_queue_create("Data import", NULL); dispatch_async(dataQ, ^{ //Fetching data from application bundle NSURL *tedxgroupsurl = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"contries" withExtension:@"json"]; NSURL *tedxeventsurl = [[NSBundle mainBundle] URLForResource:@"events" withExtension:@"json"]; //converting the JSON files to NSDictionaries NSError *error = nil; NSDictionary *countries = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:countriesurl] options:kNilOptions error:&error]; countries = [countries objectForKey:@"countries"]; NSDictionary *events = [NSJSONSerialization JSONObjectWithData:[NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:eventsurl] options:kNilOptions error:&error]; events = [events objectForKey:@"events"]; //creating entities using factory methods in NSManagedObject Subclasses (Country / Event) [document.managedObjectContext performBlock:^{ NSLog(@"creating countries"); for (NSDictionary *country in countries) { [Country countryWithCountryInfo:country inManagedObjectContext:document.managedObjectContext]; //creating Country entities } NSLog(@"creating events"); for (NSDictionary *event in events) { [Event eventWithEventInfo:event inManagedObjectContext:document.managedObjectContext]; // creating Event entities } NSLog(@"done creating, saving document"); [document saveToURL:document.fileURL forSaveOperation:UIDocumentSaveForOverwriting completionHandler:NULL]; }]; }); dispatch_release(dataQ); } This combines the different JSON files into one UIManagedDocument which i can then perform fetchRequests on to populate tableViews, mapView, etc. I'm looking for a way to create this document outside my application & add it to the mainBundle. Then I could copy it once to the apps DocumentsDirectory and be able I use it (instead of creating the Document within the app from the original JSON files). Any help is appreciated!

  • How to access parent window variables from object

    - by Pickle
I've got an XHTML 1.1 Strict document that is loading another XHTML 1.1 document in an <object> element (as <iframe> isn't part of the XHTML 1.1 spec). I'm having trouble in IE8 (don't care about 6 or 7) with accessing a javascript variable, Lightbox, in the parent window, from the document loaded in the <object>. In Firefox and everywhere I've seen online, I can just use window.parent.Lightbox. In IE8 however, I get it being undefined. window.parent does give me an object but it doesn't have my Lightbox variable. I've also tried window.Lightbox, window.top.Lightbox, and window.top.document.Lightbox, but all return undefined. I should mention I'm using Javascript to set the data property of the <object> - but I don't see how that could affect anything relevant. What Javascript Fu do I need to do to be able to access my Lightbox variable?

  • Hibernate Updating an existing entity with a new object

    - by DD
Hi, Assume I have an entity Foo in the DB. I am parsing some files and creating new Foo objects and would like to check if the parsed Foo object exists in the DB (using a unique attribute). If it exists already update it otherwise save as a new object. What is the best approach? Could I simply set the id and version in the new Foo object? Or would I be better off loading the Foo object from the DB and copying over the properties from the parsed file? Thanks.

  • Entity Data Model Wizzard not creating tables in EDMX file

    - by Shawn
I'm trying the database first approach by creating an ADO.NET Entity Data Model using the Wizard with the Adventureworks2012 DB. Testing DB connection works, and the connection string is added to the App.Config. I'm selecting all the tables except the ones marked as (dbo) AWBuildVersion, DatabaseLog, and ErrorLog. When the Wizard finishes the .edmx file is blank, and if I view the file in XML view the EntityContainer is empty. I'm using VS 2010 & .NET Framework 4.0

  • jQuery find events handlers registered with an object

    - by ages04
I need to find which event handlers an object has registered. eg. $("#el").click(function(){...}); $("#el").mouseover(function(){...}); Is there anyway I can use a function to find out that- $("#el") has click and mouseover registered and possibly iterate over the event handlers. If not a jQuery Object can we find this on a plain DOM object?

  • JSON Object XHR and closures

    - by Sara Chipps
    Hi all, I have a JSON object that is populated by an XHR. I then need to update that object with values from a separate XHR call. The issue I am running into is the second call isn't being made at the correct time and I think it's an issue with how I structured my object. Here is what I have: function Proprietary() { var proprietary= this; this.Groups = {}; this.getGroups = function() { $.getJSON(group_url, function(data){proprietary.callReturned(data);}); } this.callReturned = function(data) { //Do stuff for(var i=0; i< data.groups.length; i++) { insparq.Groups[i] = data.groups[i]; $.getJSON(participant_url, function(p){proprietary.Groups[i].participants = p;}); } //the function call below is the action I want to occur after the object is populated. PopulateGroups(); } };

  • Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

    - by jobrahms
The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?
