  • How to stream video content in asp.net?

    - by Kon
    Hi, I have the following code which downloads video content: WebRequest wreq = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(url); using (HttpWebResponse wresp = (HttpWebResponse)wreq.GetResponse()) using (Stream mystream = wresp.GetResponseStream()) { using (BinaryReader reader = new BinaryReader(mystream)) { int length = Convert.ToInt32(wresp.ContentLength); byte[] buffer = new byte[length]; buffer = reader.ReadBytes(length); Response.Clear(); Response.Buffer = false; Response.ContentType = "video/mp4"; //Response.BinaryWrite(buffer); Response.OutputStream.Write(buffer, 0, buffer.Length); Response.End(); } } But the problem is that the whole file downloads before being played. How can I make it stream and play as it's still downloading? Or is this up to the client/receiver application to manage?

  • shuffling array javascript

    - by Dennis Callanan
    <!doctype html> <html lang="en"> <head> <meta charset="utf=8" /> <title>Blackjack</title> <link rel="stylesheet" href="blackjack.css" /> <script type="text/javascript"> var H2 = 2; var S2 = 2; var D2 = 2; var C2 = 2; var H3 = 3; var S3 = 3; var D3 = 3; var C3 = 3; var deck = new Array(H2, S2, D2, C2, H3, S3, D3, C3); var new_deck = new Array(); var r; document.write("deck = ") for (r =0; r<deck.length; r++){ document.write(deck[r]); } document.write("</br>") document.write("new deck = ") for (r=0; r<new_deck.length; r++){ document.write(new_deck[r]); } document.write("</br>") for (r=0;r<deck.length;r++){ var randomindex = Math.floor(Math.random()*deck.length); new_deck.push(randomindex) deck.pop(randomindex) } document.write("deck = ") for (r =0; r<deck.length; r++){ document.write(deck[r]); } document.write("</br>") document.write("new deck = ") for (r=0; r<new_deck.length; r++){ document.write(new_deck[r]); } document.write("</br>") </script> </head> <body> </body> </html> Obviously this isn't the full Blackjack game here. It's just a test to see if shuffling the array works by printing the contents of both decks (arrays) before and after the shuffle. I'm only using 8 cards at the moment, 4 2's and 4 3's. What I am getting from this is: deck = 22223333 new deck = deck = 2222 new deck = 7502 What I'm hoping to get is: deck = 22223333 new deck = deck = new deck = 23232323 (or any of the 8 numbers, generated randomly) So it should be shuffling those 8 cards, what am I doing wrong? I'm only new to javascript but I've used some python before. I've done something similar in python and worked perfectly, but I'm not sure what's wrong here. Thanks for any answers in advance!!

  • How do encrypt a long or int using the Bouncy Castle crypto routines for BlackBerry?

    - by DanG
    How do encrypt/decrypt a long or int using the Bouncy Castle crypto routines for BlackBerry? I know how to encrypt/decrypt a String. I can encrypt a long but can't get a long to decrypt properly. Some of this is poorly done, but I'm just trying stuff out at the moment. • network will not work properly after having run TCP optimizer, but safe mode settings work perfectly. how to restore?

    - by michele
    I was experiencing some issues with my connection while playing online and I tried to optimize it by running TCP optimizer on my PC (Windows 7 64bit professional). I thought maybe the situation could improve. but it didn't. actually, I now get an extremely slow page loading time, probably due to a very low RWIN value of 1024. I understand that Windows 7 has a system to automatically adjust the RWIN value when needed. The setting from netsh is "normal" so I guess something else must be wrong. I tried every automatic tool out there to restore Windows' default values, but I had no success. I currently have what should be labeled as "default values" for everything TCP Optimizer initially changed, but the problem persists. The thing is, I just found out that running Windows in safe mode SOLVES the problem completely. The problem is that as soon as I reboot, I get the same issue all over again. So my question is: is there a way to use SAFE MODE network settings in NORMAL mode?

  • How to properly set a datatable to an gridview in code with an ObjectDataSource?

    - by Xaisoft
    Hello, I have an ObjectDataSource with an ID of ObjectDataSource1 on a webpage. I also have a gridview in which I am binding the ObjectDataSource.ID to the GridView.DataSourceID. The problem I get is when text is changed in a textbox, the code calls BrokerageTransactions.GetAllWithDt which returns a DataTable. I want to set this datatable as the DataSource for the GridView, but it is telling me that I can't set the DataSouce and DataSourceId together. How can I fix this? Code is below. Also. Why can't you set a DataSourceID and a DataSource when using an ObjectDataSource? Thanks, X protected void BrokerageChange(Object sender, EventArgs e) { BrokerageTransactions brokerageaccountdetails = new BrokerageTransactions(); DataSet ds = BrokerageAccount.GetBrkID2(new Guid(Membership.GetUser().ProviderUserKey.ToString()), ddlBrokerageDetails.SelectedItem.Text.ToString()); foreach (DataRow dr in ds.Tables[0].Rows) { brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId = new Guid(dr["BrkrgId"].ToString()); } ddlBrokerageDetails.SelectedItem.Value = brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId.ToString(); if (txtTransactionsTo.Text != "" && txtTransactionsFrom.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)>Convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text) + "',System.DateTime) and Convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)<convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text.ToString()) + "',System.DateTime)"; else if (txtTransactionsFrom.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime)>convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text) + "',System.DateTime)"; else if (txtTransactionsTo.Text != "") ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = "convert(CreateDt,System.DateTime) <convert('" + Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text.ToString()) + "',System.DateTime)"; else ObjectDataSource1.FilterExpression = " "; grvBrokerage.DataSourceID = ObjectDataSource1.ID; grvBrokerage.DataBind(); DateTime dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime("1/1/1900"); DateTime dtTransTo = System.DateTime.Today; //TransactionsTo Box is Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length > 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length < 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text); dtTransTo = System.DateTime.Today; } //TransactionsFrom Box is Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length < 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length > 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime("1/1/1900"); dtTransTo = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text); } //TransactionsFrom Box and TransactionsTo Box is Not Empty if ((txtTransactionsFrom.Text.Length > 2) && (txtTransactionsTo.Text.Length > 2)) { dtTransFrom = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsFrom.Text); dtTransTo = Convert.ToDateTime(txtTransactionsTo.Text); } // Fails Here grvBrokerage.DataSource = BrokerageTransactions.GetAllWithDt(brokerageaccountdetails.BrokerageId, dtTransFrom, dtTransTo); grvBrokerage.DataBind(); }

  • Use LINQ and lambdas to put string in proper case

    - by Tobias Funke
    I have this function called ProperCase that takes a string, then converts the first letter in each word to uppercase. So ProperCase("john smith") will return "John Smith". Here is the code: public string ProperCase(string input) { var retVal = string.Empty; var words = input.Split(' '); foreach (var word in words) { if (word.Length == 1) { retVal += word.ToUpper(); } else if (word.Length > 1) { retVal += word.Substring(0, 1).ToUpper() + word.Substring(1).ToLower(); } retVal += ' '; } if (retVal.Length > 0) { retVal = retVal.Substring(0, retVal.Length - 1); } return retVal; } This code workds perfectly, but I'm pretty sure I can do it more elegantly with LINQ and lambdas. Can some please show me how?

  • Read email from incoming mail server(POP)

    - by nccsbim071
    Hi, I have used an open source code from codeproject to read email from incoming mail server(POP Server). The code can be found at following location: http://www.codeproject.com/KB/IP/Pop3MimeClient.aspx So far it works fine i can read emails. My objective of using this code was to retrieve emails from POP server and process them. My problem is: If i use gmails pop server "pop.gmail.com" and run the appplication. I get only those emails that i have not retrieved since the last time i run the application. but if i use my clients pop server everytime i run the application i get all the emails in the pop server. for example: If i use gmail pop server: pop.gmail.com I have three emails in the pop server. I haven't run the application. I am running the application for the first time. Application reads the email, this time i will get 3 all the three email. I run the application second time, my application will not read any emails this time because i have already read the 3 existing one. This is fine, this is what i want. Now i send email to pop.gmail.com. I run the application again for the third time, this time i will only get the email that has just arrived that is the fourth one. This is good behaviour, this is what i want. But if i use my clients pop server: No matter how many times i run the application, it reads all the emails in the mail box. This will create problem for me, because i am thinking of building a window service that will read emails from pop server and process them. This service will run continuously. I will process emails in the pop serve then sleep for let's say 1 minute and the process the emails again. If the application downloaded from codeproject reads all the emails all the time, my clients mailbox can have like thousands for email in this mail box, so this would not be feasible for me. Is there some settings that is to be made at my client's pop server that will allow my application to retrieve only those emails that i have not read since last time i run the service or any help Please help, thanks,

  • javscript smart array loop, need some help here

    - by Totty
    var _test1 = []; _test1[88] = 'sex'; _test1[1999990] = 'hey'; for(i = 0, length = _test1.length; i < length; i++){ if(_test1[i] == 'hey'){ alert(_test1.length); } } this takes a lot of time, and there are only 2 values. Is there any way to be faster? Or to use another system that index objects by a number and then loop them fast? thanks

  • Why did this work? ( php dot notation )

    - by Daniel
    Hi, I was writing some php code after a long sint doing ruby and I accidently wrote this: [root@ip-10-160-47-98 test]# cat run.php <?php class MyTest { public function run() { var_dump(this.test); } } $object = new MyTest(); $object->run(); [root@ip-10-160-47-98 test]# php run.php string(8) "thistest" [root@ip-10-160-47-98 test]# Now, this.test should have been $this-test, but the compiler was actually happy to let this run. Does anyone know how (this.test) got converted into a string "thistest"? Compiled and run on php 5.3.2 amazon instance ami-e32273a6 (CentOS 5.4) -daniel

  • writing into csv file

    - by arin
    I recived alarms in a form of text as the following NE=JKHGDUWJ3 Alarm=Data Center STALZ AC Failure Occurrence=2012/4/3 22:18:19 GMT+02:00 Clearance=Details=Cabinet No.=0, Subrack No.=40, Slot No.=0, Port No.=5, Board Type=EDS, Site No.=49, Site Type=HSJYG500 GSM, Site Name=Google1 . I need to fill it in csv file so later I can perform some analysis I came up with this namespace AlarmSaver { public partial class Form1 : Form { string filesName = "c:\\alarms.csv"; public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private void buttonSave_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (!File.Exists(filesName)) { string header = "NE,Alarm,Occurrence,Clearance,Details"; File.AppendAllText(filesName,header+Environment.NewLine); } StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); string line = textBoxAlarm.Text; int index = line.IndexOf(" "); while (index > 0) { string token = line.Substring(0, index).Trim(); line = line.Remove(0, index + 2); string[] values = token.Split('='); if (values.Length ==2) { sb.Append(values[1] + ","); } else { if (values.Length % 2 == 0) { string v = token.Remove(0, values[0].Length + 1).Replace(',', ';'); sb.Append(v + ","); } else { sb.Append("********" + ","); string v = token.Remove(0, values[0].Length + 1 + values[1].Length + 1).Replace(',', ';'); sb.Append(v + ","); } } index = line.IndexOf(" "); } File.AppendAllText(filesName, sb.ToString() + Environment.NewLine); } } } the results are as I want except when I reach the part of Details=Cabinet No.=0, Subrack No.=40, Slot No.=0, Port No.=5, Board Type=KDL, Site No.=49, Site Type=JDKJH99 GSM, Site Name=Google1 . I couldnt split them into seperate fields. as the results showing is as I want to split the details I want each element in details to be in a column to be somthin like its realy annoying :-) please help , thank you in advance

  • Problem implementing sorting algorithm in C with an array of structs

    - by dilog
    Well here is my little problem, first my code: struct alumn { char name[100]; char lastname[100]; int par; int nota; }; typedef struct alumn alumn; int bubble(alumn **arr, int length) { int i,j; alumn *temp; for (i=0; i<=length-2; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<=length-1;j++) { if ((*arr)[i].nota > (*arr)[j].nota) { temp = arr[i]; arr[i] = arr[j]; arr[j] = temp; } } } } int main(int argc, char **argv) { alumn *alumns; ... here goes some other code ... bubble(&alumns,totalAlumns); return 0; } My problem is that this algorith is not sorting anything. I'm having a hard time doing the swap, i tried everything but nothing works :( . Any help??? struct alumn { char name[100]; char lastname[100]; int par; int nota; }; typedef struct alumn alumn; int bubble(alumn **arr, int length) { int i,j; alumn *temp; for (i=0; i<=length-2; i++) { for (j=i+1; j<=length-1;j++) { if ((*arr)[i].nota > (*arr)[j].nota) { temp = arr[i]; arr[i] = arr[j]; arr[j] = temp; } } } } int main(int argc, char **argv) { alumn *alumns; ... here goes some other code ... bubble(&alumns,totalAlumns); return 0; } My problem is that this algorith is not sorting anything. • Weighted Average with LINQ

    - by jsmith
    My goal is to get a weighted average from one table, based on another tables primary key. Example Data: Table1 Key WEIGHTED_AVERAGE 0200 0 Table2 ForeignKey LENGTH PCR 0200 105 52 0200 105 60 0200 105 54 0200 105 -1 0200 47 55 I need to get a weighted average based on the length of a segment and I need to ignore values of -1. I know how to do this in SQL, but my goal is to do this in LINQ. It looks something like this in SQL: SELECT Sum(t2.PCR*t2.LENGTH)/Sum(t2.LENGTH) AS WEIGHTED_AVERAGE FROM Table1 t1, Table2 t2 WHERE t2.PCR <> -1 AND t2.ForeinKey = t1.Key; I am still pretty new to LINQ, and having a hard time figuring out how I would translate this. The result weighted average should come out to roughly 55.3. Thank you.

  • Hibernate can't load Custom SQL collection

    - by Geln Yang
    Hi, There is a table Item like, code,name 01,parent1 02,parent2 0101,child11 0102,child12 0201,child21 0202,child22 Create a java object and hbm xml to map the table.The Item.parent is a Item whose code is equal to the first two characters of its code : class Item{ String code; String name; Item parent; List<Item> children; .... setter/getter.... } <hibernate-mapping> <class name="Item" table="Item"> <id name="code" length="4" type="string"> <generator class="assigned" /> </id> <property name="name" column="name" length="50" not-null="true" /> <many-to-one name="parent" class="Item" not-found="ignore"> <formula> <![CDATA[ (select i.code,r.name from Item i where (case length(code) when 4 then i.code=SUBSTRING(code,1,2) else false end)) ]]> </formula> </many-to-one> <bag name="children"></bag> </class> </hibernate-mapping> I try to use formula to define the many-to-one relationship,but it doesn't work!Is there something wrong?Or is there other method? Thanks! ps,I use mysql database. add 2010/05/23 Pascal's answer is right,but the "false" value must be replaced with other expression,like "1=2".Because the "false" value would be considered to be a column of the table. select i.code from Item i where ( case length(code) when 4 then i.code=SUBSTRING(code,1,2) else 1=2 end) And I have another question about the children "bag" mapping.There isn't formula configuration option for "bag",but we can use "loader" to load a sql-query.I configure the "bag" as following.But it get a list whose size is 0.What's wrong with it? <class> ... ... <bag name="children"> <key /> <one-to-many class="Item"></one-to-many> <loader query-ref="getChildren"></loader> </bag> </class> <sql-query name="getChildren"> <load-collection alias="r" role="Item.children" /> <![CDATA[(select {r.*} from Item r join Item o where o.code=:code and ( case length(o.code) when 2 then (length(r.code)=4 and SUBSTRING(r.code,1,2)=o.code) else 1=2 end ))]]> </sql-query>

  • slow DNS resolution

    - by Ehsan
    I have a DNS server that resolves all queries for an internal group of servers. It is a bind on CentOS 5.5 (same as RHEL5) and I have set it up to allow recursion and resolve direction without any forwarders. The problem I am facing is that it takes a freakishly long amount of time to resolve a name for the first time. (in the magnitudes of 20 sec) This causes clients to give timeout. When I set it to forward all to Google's public DNS, i.e. 8.8.8.8+8.8.4.4, it works very nicely (within a second). I tried monitoring the traffic on the net to see why it is doing this: [root@ns1 ~]# tcpdump -nnvvvA -s0 udp tcpdump: listening on eth0, link-type EN10MB (Ethernet), capture size 65535 bytes 23:06:36.137797 IP (tos 0x0, ttl 64, id 35903, offset 0, flags [none], proto: UDP (17), length: 60) 172.17.1.10.36942 > 172.17.1.4.53: [udp sum ok] 19773+ A? www.paypal.com. • Saving image to database as varbinary, arraylength (part 2)

    - by Thomas Schoof
    This is a followup to my previous question, which got solved (thank you for that) but now I am stuck at another error. I'm trying to save an image in my database (called 'Afbeelding'), for that I made a table which excists of: id: int souce: varbinary(max) I then created a wcf service to save an 'Afbeelding' to the database. private static DataClassesDataContext dc = new DataClassesDataContext(); [OperationContract] public void setAfbeelding(Afbeelding a) { //Afbeelding a = new Afbeelding(); //a.id = 1; //a.source = new Binary(bytes); dc.Afbeeldings.InsertOnSubmit(a); dc.SubmitChanges(); } I then put a reference to the service in my project and when I press the button I try to save it to the datbase. private void btnUpload_Click(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { Afbeelding a = new Afbeelding(); OpenFileDialog openFileDialog = new OpenFileDialog(); openFileDialog.Filter = "JPEG files|*.jpg"; if (openFileDialog.ShowDialog() == true) { //string imagePath = openFileDialog.File.Name; //FileStream fileStream = new FileStream(imagePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); //byte[] buffer = new byte[fileStream.Length]; //fileStream.Read(buffer, 0, (int)fileStream.Length); //fileStream.Close(); Stream stream = (Stream)openFileDialog.File.OpenRead(); Byte[] bytes = new Byte[stream.Length]; stream.Read(bytes, 0, (int)stream.Length); string fileName = openFileDialog.File.Name; a.id = 1; a.source = new Binary { Bytes = bytes }; } EditAfbeeldingServiceClient client = new EditAfbeeldingServiceClient(); client.setAfbeeldingCompleted +=new EventHandler<System.ComponentModel.AsyncCompletedEventArgs>(client_setAfbeeldingCompleted); client.setAfbeeldingAsync(a); } void client_setAfbeeldingCompleted(object sender, System.ComponentModel.AsyncCompletedEventArgs e) { if (e.Error != null) txtEmail.Text = e.Error.ToString(); else MessageBox.Show("WIN"); } However, when I do this, I get the following error: System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The formatter threw an exception while trying to deserialize the message: There was an error while trying to deserialize parameter :a. The InnerException message was 'There was an error deserializing the object of type OndernemersAward.Web.Afbeelding. The maximum array length quota (16384) has been exceeded while reading XML data. This quota may be increased by changing the MaxArrayLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader.'. Please see InnerException for more details. at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel.HandleReply(ProxyOperationRuntime operation, ProxyRpc& rpc) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.ServiceChannel.EndCall(String action, Object[] outs, IAsyncResult result) at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase`1.ChannelBase`1.EndInvoke(String methodName, Object[] args, IAsyncResult result) atOndernemersAward.EditAfbeeldingServiceReference.EditAfbeeldingServiceClient.EditAfbeeldingServiceClientChannel.EndsetAfbeelding(IAsyncResult result) at OndernemersAward.EditAfbeeldingServiceReference.EditAfbeeldingServiceClient.OndernemersAward.EditAfbeeldingServiceReference.EditAfbeeldingService.EndsetAfbeelding(IAsyncResult result) at OndernemersAward.EditAfbeeldingServiceReference.EditAfbeeldingServiceClient.OnEndsetAfbeelding(IAsyncResult result) at System.ServiceModel.ClientBase`1.OnAsyncCallCompleted(IAsyncResult result) I'm not sure what's causing this but I think it has something to do with the way I write the image to the database? (The array length is too big big, I don't really know how to change it) Thank you for your help, Thomas

  • How can custom properties be added to a column in Doctrine

    - by murze
    With doctrine if you execute this code $columns = $accountTable->getColumns(); foreach ($columns as $column) { print_r($column); } you could get for example this as result: Array ( [type] => integer [length] => 20 [autoincrement] => 1 [primary] => 1 ) Array ( [type] => string [length] => 255 ) Is there a way to add custom properties to a column, so that the result would be: Array ( [type] => integer [length] => 20 [autoincrement] => 1 [primary] => 1 [customproperty] => customvalue ) Array ( [type] => string [length] => 255 )

  • Typed Arrays in Gecko 2: Float32Array concatenation and expansion.

    - by janesconference
    Hi all, I'm a bit confused with Javascript Typed Arrays. What I have several *Float32Array*s, that have no concat method. I'd like to concatenate them all inside another Float32Array, but: as I said before, there is no concatenation method if I try to write past the array length, the array is not expanded (aka this won't work - please note that event.frameBuffer and buffer are both Float32Array and that I don't know what the final length of my buffer will be): var length_now = buffer.length; for (var i = 0; i < event.frameBuffer.length; i += 1) { buffer [length_now + i] = event.frameBuffer[i]; } The only solution I found is to copy the Float32Array in a regular array, that's definitely not what I want. How would you do, stackoverflowers?

  • Adding and removing elements efficiently from Collection object

    - by user569125
    Hi, Below coding is the working sample,but still i am not happy with this code with related to performancewise.Please have a look and let me know if any better approach is there.Thanks in advance. Adding items to the arraylist object String resultItems[] = paging.getMoveLeftArray().split(","); String fields[]={"id","name","name1"}; leftObj=new ArrayList(); for(int i=0;i<resultItems.length;i++){ //below line mea TestVO bean=new TestVO(); String resultItem = resultItems[i]; String idANDname[] = resultItem.split("@"); String id = idANDname[0]; // name or id should not contain "-" String name[] = idANDname[1].split("-"); //values and fileds are always having same length for(int j=0;j<name.length;j++) { PropertyUtils.setProperty(bean, fields[j], name[j]); } leftObj.add(bean); } Removing items from the arraylist object:availableList contains all the TestVO objects: String []removeArray=paging.getMoveRightArray().split(","); tempList=new CopyOnWriteArrayList(); newTempList=new CopyOnWriteArrayList(); for(int i=0;i<availableList.size();i++){ boolean flag = false; TestVO tempObj = (TestVO )availableList.get(i); int id =(Integer)tempObj.getId(); // System.out.println("id value"+id); // availableList.get(i).getClass().getField(name); for(int j=0;j<removeArray.length;j++){ String resultItem = removeArray[j]; String idandname[] = resultItem.split("@"); for(int k=0;k<idandname.length;k++){ String ids[]=idandname[0].split("-"); if(id==Integer.parseInt(ids[0])){ flag = true; break; } } } if(flag){ tempList.add(tempObj); } else{ newTempList.add(tempObj); }

  • Adding XOR function to bigint library

    - by Jason Gooner
    Hi, I'm using this Big Integer library for Javascript: http://www.leemon.com/crypto/BigInt.js and I need to be able to XOR two bigInts together and sadly the library doesn't include such a function. The library is relatively simple so I don't think it's a huge task, just confusing. I've been trying to hack one together but not having much luck, would be very grateful if someone could lend me a hand. This is what I've attempted (might be wrong). But im guessing the structure is going to be quite similar to some of the other functions in there. function xor(x, y) { var c, k, i; var result = new Array(0); // big int for result k=x.length>y.length ? x.length : y.length; // array length of the larger num // Make sure result is the correct array size? maybe: result = expand(result, k); // ? for (c=0, i=0; i < k; i++) { // Do some xor here } // return the bigint xor result return result; } What confuses me is I don't really understand how it stores numbers in the array blocks for the bigInt. I don't think it's a case of simply bigintC[i] = bigintA[i] ^ bigintB[i], then most other functions have some masking operation at the end that I don't understand. I would really appreciate any help getting this working. Thanks

  • Project Euler problem 214, How can i make it more efficient?

    - by Once
    I am becoming more and more addicted to the Project Euler problems. However since one week I am stuck with the #214. Here is a short version of the problem: PHI() is Euler's totient function, i.e. for any given integer n, PHI(n)=numbers of k<=n for which gcd(k,n)=1. We can iterate PHI() to create a chain. For example starting from 18: PHI(18)=6 = PHI(6)=2 = PHI(2)=1. So starting from 18 we get a chain of length 4 (18,6,2,1) The problem is to calculate the sum of all primes less than 40e6 which generate a chain of length 25. I built a function that calculates the chain length of any number and I tested it for small values: it works well and fast. sum of all primes<=20 which generate a chain of length 4: 12 sum of all primes<=1000 which generate a chain of length 10: 39383 Unfortunately my algorithm doesn't scale well. When I apply it to the problem, it takes several hours to calculate... so I stop it because the Project Euler problems must be solved in less than one minute. I thought that my prime detection function might be slow so I fed the program with a list of primes <40e6 to avoid the primality test... The code runs now a little bit faster, but there is still no way to get a solution in less than a few hours (and I don't want this). So is there any "magic trick" that I am missing here ? I really don't understand how to be more efficient on this one... I am not asking for the solution, because fighting with optimization is all the fun of Project Euler. However, any small hint that could put me on the right track would be welcome. Thanks !
