  • Downsides to immutable objects in Java?

    - by parkr
    The advantages of immutable objects in Java seem clear: consistent state automatic thread safety simplicity You can favour immutability by using private final fields and constructor injection. But, what are the downsides to favouring immutable objects in Java? i.e. incompatibility with ORM or web presentation tools? Inflexible design? Implementation complexities? Is it possible to design a large-scale system (deep object graph) that predominately uses immutable objects?

  • Export CSV from Mysql

    - by ss888
    Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble exporting a csv file that is created from one of my mysql tables using php. The code I'm using prints the correct data, but I can't see how to download this data in a csv file, providing a download link to the created file. I thought the browser was supposed to automatically provide the file for download, but it doesn't. (Could it be because the below code is called using ajax?) Any help greatly appreciated - code below, S. include('../config/config.php'); //db connection settings $query = "SELECT * FROM isregistered"; $export = mysql_query ($query ) or die ( "Sql error : " . mysql_error( ) ); $fields = mysql_num_fields ( $export ); for ( $i = 0; $i < $fields; $i++ ) { $header .= mysql_field_name( $export , $i ) . "\t"; } while( $row = mysql_fetch_row( $export ) ) { $line = ''; foreach( $row as $value ) { if ( ( !isset( $value ) ) || ( $value == "" ) ) { $value = "\t"; } else { $value = str_replace( '"' , '""' , $value ); $value = '"' . $value . '"' . "\t"; } $line .= $value; } $data .= trim( $line ) . "\n"; } $data = str_replace( "\r" , "" , $data ); if ( $data == "" ) { $data = "\n(0) Records Found!\n"; } //header("Content-type: application/octet-stream"); //have tried all of these at sometime //header("Content-type: text/x-csv"); header("Content-type: text/csv"); //header("Content-type: application/csv"); header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=export.csv"); //header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=export.xls"); header("Pragma: no-cache"); header("Expires: 0"); echo '<a href="">Download Exported Data</a>'; //want my link to go in here... print "$header\n$data";

  • How to implement table-per-concrete-type using entity framework

    - by SDReyes
    Hello Guys! I'm mapping a set of tables that share a common set of fields: So as you can see I'm using a table-per-concrete-type strategy to map the inheritance. But... I have not could to relate them to an abstract type containing these common properties. It's possible to do it using EF? BONUS: The only non documented Entity Data Model Mapping Scenario is Table-per-concrete-type inheritance http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc716779.aspx : P

  • Is passing a struct value to a method by-reference in C# an acceptable optimization?

    - by Arc
    Say I have a struct: struct MyStruct { public int X public int Y } And a method in some class that is iterated over many times elsewhere: public bool MyMethod( MyStruct myStruct ) { return ... } Is changing the MyMethod signature to the following an acceptable optimization? public bool MyMethod( ref MyStruct myStruct ) If so, how much of an advantage would it really be? If not, about how many fields would a struct need for a big enough advantage using ref this way?

  • group member dropdown in visual studio 2008

    - by knittl
    in visual studio is the member dropdown, where you can select all members of the current type alphabetically ordered. is there an option which allows grouping of the members? i.e. all constructors before all methods before all properties before all events before all fields? if there is not, bad for me, i guess—it would really enhance productivity

  • How to pass a variable inside a jquery fonction $.each($("abc")...?

    - by Rock
    I'm trying to iterate a bunch of SELECT OPTION html drop-down fields and from the ones that are NOT empty, take the values and add a hidden field for a PAYPAL shopping cart. My problem is that for some reason, the variable "curitem" is not passed inside the each function and I can't add the hidden field like they should. All I get is "NaN" or "undefined". What PAYPAL expect is : item_name_1, item_name_2, etc. All numbers must iterate by +1. How can I do this? Thanks a bunch in advance var curitem; $.each($("select"), function(index, item) { var attname = $(this).attr("name"); var nom = $(this).attr("data-nom"); var prix = $(this).attr("data-val"); var partname = attname.substring(0, 1); var qte = $(this).val(); // i want all my <select option> items that the NAME start with "q" AND have a value selected if (partname == "q" && isNaN(qte) == false && qte > 0) { // item name var inp2 = document.createElement("input"); inp2.setAttribute("type", "hidden"); inp2.setAttribute("id", "item_name_"+curitem); inp2.setAttribute("name", "item_name_"+curitem); inp2.setAttribute("value", nom); // amount var inp3 = document.createElement("input"); inp3.setAttribute("type", "hidden"); inp3.setAttribute("id", "amount_"+curitem); inp3.setAttribute("name", "amount_"+curitem); inp3.setAttribute("value", prix); // qty var inp4 = document.createElement("input"); inp4.setAttribute("type", "hidden"); inp4.setAttribute("id", "quantity_"+curitem); inp4.setAttribute("name", "quantity_"+curitem); inp4.setAttribute("value", qte); // add hidden fields to form document.getElementById('payPalForm').appendChild(inp2); document.getElementById('payPalForm').appendChild(inp3); document.getElementById('payPalForm').appendChild(inp4); // item number curitem = curitem + 1; } });

  • form validation without reset

    - by Paulo Bueno
    Hi guys Is there a way to check the data sent by a form to a PHP page return to the form page WITHOUT resetting the data sent and show a error? The form has 20 fields and I need to check one of them on a bd. If it fails the user may be redirected to the form page with the form populated and displaying a error message on the field which is 'wrong'. I would like any advice of a technique instead of populating each field using PHP.

  • remove params from form request

    - by joe
    Hello folks, Upon user interaction, I need to remove certain input params from an HTML form before submission. Using javascript to remove the input fields from the DOM doesn't seem to actually remove the params from being sent through the request. Is there a way to delete or clear the actual request params?

  • Using "null" in jQuery functions. Is this okay?

    - by Nick
    My database consists of some entries which are NULL (so they don't affect max, min, etc..). When I pull all of the data from the database, I need to repopulate form fields with the values. Using .val(value) where value = NULL seems to work without any problems, but I'm not sure if this is a valid way to go about this. It doesn't say anything in the jQuery documentation (that I can find) about using NULL as parameters to functions.

  • Is it safe to modify CCK tables by hand?

    - by LanguaFlash
    I'm not intimately familiar with CCK but I have a one-time custom setup and know that I could get some performance gains if I created indexes and changed the field type and length of some of the fields in my CCK table. Is it save to modify this table at all or will I end up destroying something in the process? Thanks
