  • How to secure an AJAX call from a facebook canvas application.

    - by user259349
Reading this Ajax example, http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/FBJS/Examples/Ajax#Working_Example I found the following line. I'm not sure what to understand out of it, how do you "check the sig values per Platform spec"? "Note: For brevity's sake we are trusting $_POST['fb_sig_user'] without checking the full signature. This is unsafe as anyone could easily forge a user's action. Always be sure to either use the Facebook object which is supplied with the client libraries, or check the sig values per Platform spec"

  • Re-designing 37signals paths to be hosted under a single domain

    - by Victor P
37signals is a web app company. Some of their applications: basecamp, to manage projects highrise, to manage contacts backpack, like a wiki they use different domains for each application (basecamphq.com, highrisehq.com, etc) in basecamp, this is the address of a particular comment for a post in a project of my company (acme) https://acme.basecamphq.com/projects/431678/posts/2964581/comments#5854236 if 37signals had chosen to host all the applications under their domain using folders (eg 37signals.com/basecamp/..., how would you design the paths?

  • Adobe Flex 4.0 vs Silverlight 4.0

    - by Jason Towne
While this not necessarily a technical question, I believe it will help a lot of developers (including myself!). With Silverlight 4.0 and Flex 4.0 both in beta, I thought I would put out an open question to the community and see what everyone likes and dislikes about each framework and why. I've worked with Flex in the past but have decided to take another look at Silverlight with the new version being released. Thoughts anyone? Edit: Made it a community wiki. :)

  • Upload a Photo to Facebook with REST API and Ruby

    - by Michael Waxman
It's much harder than you'd think: http://wiki.developers.facebook.com/index.php/Photos.upload The tricky part is how to create the MIME multi-part message in Rails, which Facebook requires. I'm also using a Ruby Facebook API gem (mini_fb) which signs my other requests, and in addition to having no idea how to set up the MIME multi-part, even if I did I'm not sure how to add in the required signature values with the gem. Please help!

  • Is there a web application equivalent of Hypercard?

    - by Gabriel Cuvillier
Recently, I found an interesting Wiki/CMS/Database hybrid called Wagn, where the most important unit of information is the 'Card'. That terminology immediately made me think of Hypercard. As expected, there is some "Hypercard-ness" in that application. Do you know of other web applications/frameworks with that "Hypercard-ness" thing, or if its successor still must be invented? Note: I insist on web applications because I already know the desktop ones.

    - by Rahul Soni
I checked wikipedia, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scrum_(development) But I am still looking for some insight from the genius minds using SO. I installed Microsoft Project 2010, and was assuming that it would have some template/plugin that would support SCRUM. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one :-(

    - by michael
Hi, I have followed the following instructions in setting a git repository locally in one of my hard drive (1): https://trac.webkit.org/wiki/UsingGitWithWebKit I would like to know if it is possible for me to set up another repository in a different hard drive which mirrors the one I setup in (1)? By mirrors, I mean if I commit some changes the other repository can retrieve it. Thank you.

  • How do you embed XHTML into APT file when using Maven to generate a site?

    - by Clinton
I am using maven to generate a website for a Java project, which uses APT "Almost Plain Text" as a wiki like markup. Maven takes this and turns it into XHTML. I already have a custom template/skin that I am using for the site, but the index page will have a couple of extra custom design elements that are beyond the capabilities of APT. So how can you add xhtml to the apt file so that it gets correctly embedded in the final output? Thanks.

  • Mercurial for Beginners: The Definitive Practical Guide

    - by Laz
Inspired by Git for beginners: The definitive practical guide. This is a compilation of information on using Mercurial for beginners for practical use. Beginner - a programmer who has touched source control without understanding it very well. Practical - covering situations that the majority of users often encounter - creating a repository, branching, merging, pulling/pushing from/to a remote repository, etc. Notes: Explain how to get something done rather than how something is implemented. Deal with one question per answer. Answer clearly and as concisely as possible. Edit/extend an existing answer rather than create a new answer on the same topic. Please provide a link to the the Mercurial wiki or the HG Book for people who want to learn more. Questions: Installation/Setup How to install Mercurial? How to set up Mercurial? How do you create a new project/repository? How do you configure it to ignore files? Working with the code How do you get the latest code? How do you check out code? How do you commit changes? How do you see what's uncommitted, or the status of your current codebase? How do you destroy unwanted commits? How do you compare two revisions of a file, or your current file and a previous revision? How do you see the history of revisions to a file? How do you handle binary files (visio docs, for instance, or compiler environments)? How do you merge files changed at the "same time"? Tagging, branching, releases, baselines How do you 'mark' 'tag' or 'release' a particular set of revisions for a particular set of files so you can always pull that one later? How do you pull a particular 'release'? How do you branch? How do you merge branches? How do you merge parts of one branch into another branch? Other Good GUI/IDE plugin for Mercurial? Advantages/disadvantages? Any other common tasks a beginner should know? How do I interface with Subversion? • Can I write for .Net 4 using VS2008?

    - by chillitom
Can I write code against .Net 4 and its libraries using VS2008? If so how should I configure it? I realise that VS2008 will probably struggle with language changes such as the dynamic keyword but can I install the version 4 and target it anyway? My only real interest is in being able to use some of the new libraries, in particular I'm interested in the TPL (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_Extensions)
