  • Rails activerecord includes. How to access the included columns?

    - by Lee Quarella
I my User has_many :event_patrons and EventPatron belongs_to :user. I would like to slap together the user with one specific event patron with something like this sql statement: SELECT * FROM `users` INNER JOIN `event_patrons` ON `event_patrons`.`user_id` = `users`.`id` WHERE `event_patrons`.`event_id` = 1 So in rails I tried this: User.all(:joins => :event_patrons, :condidions => {:event_patrons => {:event_id => 1}}) But that gives me SELECT users.* instead of SELECT *: SELECT `users`* FROM `users` INNER JOIN `event_patrons` ON `event_patrons`.`user_id` = `users`.`id` WHERE `event_patrons`.`event_id` = 1 I then tried to switch the :joins with :include and got a whole jumbled mess that still returned me only the columns in User and none from EventPatron. What am I missing?

  • Custom Output => List of Errors interpretation in VS2008 IDE.

    - by Hamish Grubijan
Hello, I have a "database solution" project in VS2008 - it generates SQL for more than one DB vendor from some sort of templates. In order to save time, I also have a tool in VS2008 configured (a Python script), which can compile an individual stored procedure. Now, with the Python script I have the freedom of processing the output and have it take on whatever form I want. I am toying with an idea of having these errors and warnings somehow recognized and populating the click-able Error / Warning list. This is what a typical Oracle error looks like: LINE/COL ERROR -------- ----------------------------------------------------------------- 324/5 PL/SQL: Statement ignored 324/82 PLS-00363: expression 'VSOURCE_SYSTEM_ID' cannot be used as an assignment target Warning: Procedure created with compilation errors. PROCEDURE: ADD_PROPOSED error on creation Errors for PROCEDURE ADD_PROPOSED: LINE/COL ERROR This might be a long shot, but it is worthwhile for me. I do this stuff a lot. Thank you!

  • Problem with NHibernate and saving - NHibernate doesn't detect changes and uses old values.

    - by Vilx-
When I do this: Cat x = Session.Load<Cat>(123); x.Name = "fritz"; Session.Flush(); NHibernate detects the change and UPDATEs the DB. But, when I do this: Cat x = new Cat(); Session.Save(x); x.Name = "fritz"; Session.Flush(); I get NULL for name, because that's what was there when I called Session.Save(). Why doesn't NHibernate detect the changes - or better yet, take the values for the INSERT statement at the time of Flush()?

  • wget: retrieving files recursively

    - by Shadow
When using wget with the recursive option turned on I am getting an error message when it is trying to download a file. It thinks the link is a downloadable file when in reality it should just be following it to get to the page that actually contains the files that I want. wget -r -l 16 --accept=jpg website.com The error message is: .... since it should be rejected. This usually occurs when the website link it is trying to fetch ends with a sql statement. The problem however doesn't occur when using the very same wget command on that link. I want to know how exactly it is trying to fetch the pages. I guess I could always take a poke around the source although I don't know how messy the project is.

  • How to update existing record if the one being saved has the same key?

    - by Pavel Shved
MySQL has a very nice option for INSERT statement, which is particularly helpful for join tables without the id column. It inserts a record, but, instead of throwing an error if its key clashed with the existing one, that record is updated. Here's an example: INSERT INTO table (key1,key2,data) VALUES (1,2,3) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE c=3; How to achieve the same with ActiveRecord? The code looks like this: class Model < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :key1 belongs_to :key2 end record = Model.new record.key1 = key1 record.key2 = key2 record.data = 'new data' record.WHAT? #Inserts or updates `data` for the existing record

  • Problem storing string containing quotes

    - by Jack
I have the following table - $sql = "CREATE TABLE received_queries ( sender_screen_name varchar(50), text varchar(150) )"; I use the following SQL statement to store values in the table $sql = "INSERT INTO received_queries VALUES ('$sender_screen_name', '$text')"; Now I am trying to store the following string as 'text'. One more #haiku: Cotton wool in mind; feeling like a sleep won't cure; I need some coffee. and I get the following error message Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 't cure; I need some coffee.')' at line 1 I think must be a pretty common problem. How do I solve it?

  • How can I know when SQL Full Text Index Population is finished?

    - by GarethOwen
We are writing unit tests for our ASP.NET application that run against a test SQL Server database. That is, the ClassInitialize method creates a new database with test data, and the ClassCleanup deletes the database. We do this by running .bat scripts from code. The classes under test are given a connection string that connects to the unit test database rather than a production database. Our problem is, that the database contains a full text index, which needs to be fully populated with the test data in order for our tests to run as expected. As far as I can tell, the fulltext index is always populated in the background. I would like to be able to either: Create the full text index, fully populated, with a synchronous (transact-SQL?) statement, or Find out when the fulltext population is finished, is there a callback option, or can I ask repeatedly? My current solution is to force a delay at the end the class initialize method - 5 seconds seems to work - because I can't find anything in the documentation.

  • Types in Union or Concat cannot be constructed with hierarchy

    - by user927777
I am trying to run a query very similar to the following: (from bs in DataContext.TblBookShelf join b in DataContext.Book on bs.BookID equals b.BookID where bs.BookShelfID == bookShelfID select new BookItem { Categories = String.Join("<br/>", b.BookCategories.Select(x => x.Name).DefaultIfEmpty().ToArray()), Name = b.Name, ISBN = b.ISBN, BookType = "Shelf" }).Union(from bs in DataContext.TblBookShelf join bi in DataContext.TblBookInventory on bs.BookID equals bi.BookID select new BookItem { Categories = String.Join("<br/>", bi.BookCategories.Select(x => x.Name).DefaultIfEmpty().ToArray()), Name = bi.Name, ISBN = bi.ISBN, BookType = "Inventory" }); I am receiving "Types in Union or Concat cannot be constructed with hierarchy" after the statement executes, I need to to be able to get a list of categories to display with each book. If anyone could shed some light on a possible solution, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a dynamically generated page of an enterprise application. The data is inside table structure. I need to access a value of span tag inside this table. The page code looks like <td class="dCCItemValue" valign="bottom> <span id="S_0_1_5">Problem type</span> The id of the span tag is also generated dynamically and I have no control over it. So the problem statement becomes: How to get value span inside a td with class "dCCItemValue" I hope I have explained the problem correctly. Please Help

  • Hiding result sets from multiple selects in a stored procedure

    - by Josh Young
I have a stored procedure that retrieves SQL queries as text and executes the statements using sp_executesql. Each of the dynamic queries is a count query in that it only returns the number of records found (select COUNT(id) from...). I am looping through a set of SQL queries stored as text and building a table variable out of the results. At the end, I am selecting all the results from the table variable as the result set that I want returned from the stored procedure. However, when I execute the stored procedure, I am naturally getting multiple result sets (one for each of the dynamic queries and one for the final select.) Is there any way I can suppress the results of a select statement executed through sp_executesql? I have found answers that reference storing the results in a temp table, but I don't have control of the query text that I am running so I can't change it to select into anything. Please help. Thank you for your time.

  • Syntax error. Help with one small JS snippet :(

    - by Bogdan
Hey guys. I don't know much JS, but I wanted to do some quick work with jQuery. But I've been staring at this for about an hour and I don't understand what I missed: <script type="text/javascript"> $('#qty_6035').change(function () { var substractedQty, stockQty, remQty; substractedQty = (int) $('#qty_6035').val(); // missing ; before statement stockQty = (int) $('#orig_qty_6035').val(); $('#rem_qty_6035').html(stockQty-substractedQty); }); </script> jQuery library is included at the beggining of the document. Thanks.

  • C++ -- return x,y; The point?

    - by Earlz
Hello, I have been programming in C and C++ for a few years and now I'm taking a college course in it and our book had a function like this int foo(){ int x=0; int y=20; return x,y; //y is always returned } I have never seen such syntax. In fact, I never see the , operator used outside of parameter lists. If y is always returned though, then what is the point? Is there a case where a return statement would need to be created like this? (Also, I tagged C as well because it applies to both, though my book specifically is C++)

  • Weird behavior in referring to global variable. Is this a bug in javascript? Surely it isn't!

    - by Chandan .
Consider the following piece of code. <html> <body> <script> var x = 5; //globally declared function showX() { alert("x="+x); //trying to display global value var x=10; //trying to create and initialize a local x } </script> <input type = "button" value="Show X" onclick="showX()"> </body> </html> The alert statement shows 'x=undefined'. And doesn't print the global value of x as expected. An equivalent java code would display 5! So, is it a bug? If not then how does one explain that behavior?

  • Perl - Reading .txt files line-by-line and using compare function (printing non-matches only once)

    - by Kurt W
I am really struggling and have spent about two full days on this banging my head against receiving the same result every time I run this perl script. I have a Perl script that connects to a vendor tool and stores data for ~26 different elements within @data. There is a foreach loop for @data that breaks the 26 elements into $e-{'element1'), $e-{'element2'), $e-{'element3'), $e-{'element4'), etc. etc. etc. I am also reading from the .txt files within a directory (line-by-line) and comparing the server names that exist within the text files with what exists in $e-{'element4'}. The Problem: Matches are working perfectly and only printing one line for each of the 26 elements when there is a match, however non-matches are producing one line for every entry within the .txt files (37 in all). So if there are 100 entries (each entry having 26 elements) stored within @data, then there are 100 x 37 entries being printed. So for every non-match in the: if ($e-{'element4'} eq '6' && $_ =~ /$e-{element7}/i) statement below, I am receiving a print out saying that there is not a match. 37 entries for the same identical 26 elements (because there are 37 total entries in all of the .txt files). The Goal: I need to print out only 1 line for each unique entry (a unique entry being $e-{element1} thru $e-{element26}). It is already printing one 1 line for matches, but it is printing out 37 entries when there is not a match. I need to treat matches and non-matches differently. Code: foreach my $e (@data) { # Open the .txt files stored within $basePath and use for comparison: opendir(DIRC, $basePath . "/") || die ("cannot open directory"); my @files=(readdir(DIRC)); my @MPG_assets = grep(/(.*?).txt/, @files); # Loop through each system name found and compare it with the data in SC for a match: foreach(@MPG_assets) { $filename = $_; open (MPGFILES, $basePath . "/" . $filename) || die "canot open the file"; while(<MPGFILES>) { if ($e->{'element4'} eq '6' && $_ =~ /$e->{'element7'}/i) { ## THIS SECTION WORKS PERFECTLY AND ONLY PRINTS MATCHES WHERE $_ ## (which contains the servernames (1 per line) in the .txt files) ## EQUALS $e->{'element7'}. print $e->{'element1'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element2'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element3'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element4'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element5'} . "\n"; # ... print $e->{'element26'} . "\n"; } else { ## **THIS SECTION DOES NOT WORK**. FOR EVERY NON-MATCH, THERE IS A ## LINE PRINTED WITH 26 IDENTICAL ELEMENTS BECAUSE ITS LOOPING THRU ## THE 37 LINES IN THE *.TXT FILES. print $e->{'element1'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element2'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element3'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element4'} . "\n"; print $e->{'element5'} . "\n"; # ... print $e->{'element26'} . "\n"; } # End of 'if ($e->{'element4'} eq..' statement } # End of while loop } # End of 'foreach(@MPG_assets)' } # End of 'foreach my $e (@data)' I think I need something to identical unique elements and define what fields make up a unique element but honestly I have tried everything I know. If you would be so kind to provide actual code fixes, that would be wonderful because I am headed to production with this script quite soon. Also. I am looking for code (ideally) that is very human-readable because I will need to document it so others can understand. Please let me know if you need additional information.

  • Occasional conversion error using SUM function

    - by user153777
My app uses sql2000 and a select statement it uses will sometimes fail. Once a week or so the select returns the error 'Error Converting data type varchar to numeric' SQL: sum(case when ISNULL(form_prsn_id, -1) = irpd_prsn_id then convert(dec(11,2), case when valu_value = '' then '0' else isnull (valu_value,'0') end)* case when fmdt_deduction_flag = 'Y' then -1 else 1 end else 0 end) as client_sum The valu_value field is a varchar and stores some numeric and some varchar. But including my join and where clause filter it will always select numeric or empty string. When it is failing I can remove the SUM, see the data and know that its numeric. So why would the SUM function sometimes (say 5% of time) fail on data that is numeric. I wonder if SQL somehow "looks ahead" to ensure it could convert to decimal on more than just the rows returned without the sum. Note I have discovered a fix where I include ( where isNumeric(valu_value) = 1 ) Thanks

  • Psycopg2 doesn't like table names that start with a lower case letter

    - by Count Boxer
I am running ActiveState's ActivePython 2.6.5.12 and PostgreSQL 9.0 Beta 1 under Windows XP. If I create a table with an upper case first letter (i.e. Books), psycopg2 returns the "Programming Error: relation "books" does not exist" error message when I run the select statement: execute("SELECT * FROM Books"). The same error is returned if I run: execute("SELECT * FROM books"). However, if I change the table to a lower case first name (i.e. books), then either of the above statements works. Are tables name supposed to have a lower case first name? Is this a setting or a feature or a bug? Am I missing something obvious?

  • Exit Try/Catch to prevent code after from being run

    - by coffeeaddict
I've got for example a try/catch in my method: } catch (OurCustomExceptionObject1 ex) { txtErrorMessage.InnerHtml = "test 1"; } catch(OurCustomExceptionObject2 ex) { txtErrorMessage.InnerHtml = "test 2"; } catch (OurCustomExceptionObject3 ex) { txtErrorMessage.InnerHtml = "test 3"; } ... rest of code here is being executed after the try/catch I do not want the rest of code to run if any of the exceptions are caught. I'm handling the exceptions. I heard do not use Exit Try for some reason. Is that true, it's bad to do this? Is this the right way to halt execution of code thereafter the catch statement?

  • Why is this jquery dialog window not displaying?

    - by user338413
I've got a form that is using jquery validation. When the user clicks the submit button, I've got some jquery that intercepts the submit and should display a dialog window asking the user to verify the information they entered on the form. This dialog window should only display if the form has validated. Here is my code: $('#form').submit(function(){ fillVerificationDialog(); /* This loads up the dialog with form data */ if (('#form').valid()){ $('verification_dialog').dialog('open'); return false; } }); My dialog window is not displaying. It just submits the form. And I've verified that the form is valid by using an alert that checks the value of $('#form').valid() If I remove the if statement and just have the line that opens the dialog, the dialog displays. However, it will display even if the form has errors which is what I'm trying to prevent.

  • How can I use an array within a SQL query

    - by ThinkingInBits
So I'm trying to take a search string (could be any number of words) and turn each value into a list to use in the following IN statement) in addition, I need a count of all these values to use with my having count filter $search_array = explode(" ",$this->search_string); $tag_count = count($search_array); $db = Connect::connect(); $query = "select p.id from photographs p left join photograph_tags c on p.id = c.photograph_id and c.value IN ($search_array) group by p.id having count(c.value) >= $tag_count"; This currently returns no results, any ideas?

  • Core Data No Longer Updating Sqlite Schema

    - by nefsu
I am using core data for my app and I never had any problems adding or removing columns until recently. But now even if I make changes to my xcdatamodel and generate new and updated entity h/m files, sqlite doesn't seem to be picking up the changes. I actually went over to the documents folder and inspected the create statement for the relevant tables in sqlite3 and I was able to confirm that the columns I added were missing. I removed and redeployed the app several times to no avail. Is it possible to do something to the app to make it disregard any schema changes being made through xcdatamodel? I guess another thing I should mention is I recently started putting my entire projects folder in CVS so I wonder if something got messed up in the checkin and check out process.

  • How to build where clause in MS SQL??

    - by Kai
I would like to build the where clase of sql statement dynamatically from hashtable in C#. The key of the hash_table will be the column's name to be inserted and the value of hash_table will be value. string sql_1="SELECT COL_1,COL_2 FROM MY_TABLE"; string sql_2="SELECT * FROM MY_TABLE WHERE COL_3='ABC'"; //note: some statment have where clause while some do NOT have. string sql= ToSql(sql_1,myHashTable); // the actual sql statment will be returned from ToSql //execute sql sql= ToSql(sql_2,myHashTable); // //execute sql My Question is, how can I create function ToSql() function in LINQ? NOTE: The data type of the value of hashtable will be taken into consideration. Thanks in advance.

  • How should I deal with sqlite errors?

    - by Dustin
I have a long running application written in a mix of C and C++ that stores data in sqlite. While I am confident that committed data will remain available (barring mechanical failure) and uncommitted data will not be, it's not clear to me what I can do with this sort of middle state. I do a large number of inserts in a transaction and then commit it. When an error occurs on a given statement, I can schedule it to be attempted at some point in the future. It sounds like some errors might implicitly rollback my transaction (which would be undesirable if true). A larger problem is what happens when my commit itself fails. Currently, I'm just going to continue to retry it until it works. I would expect that whatever would cause my commit to fail may very well also cause a rollback to fail. What is the recommended mechanism for error handling in such a situation?

I just don't know how to write such code in sql. then I can do DELETE FROM A WHERE id NOT IN idtable
