So I've been trying to get hotmail setup in Thunderbird but I cannot get it to work. I know hotmail IMAP works fine in Windows Live Mail. How can I get it to work in Thunderbird?
Can anyone explain this? On this laptop, ustream and justin.tv don't work - just get a blank screen. But UTube and bitgravoty work fine (also flash based).
64-bit windows 7 - but I have 64-bit windows 7 on my desktop machine and everything works fine there.
Good place to test is here http://live.twit.tv/ where the bitgravity feeds work fine, but ustream and justin.tv don't.
I have recently (as of July 2012) bought a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca laptop. It came pre-installed with Windows 7 on an MBR. I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on it on a GPT partition in what I think is BIOS emulation mode. I made a BIOS-Grub partition so the install didn't fail. That is what it is for .. right? Now I want to upgrade to UEFI mode.
How would I Install Ubuntu 12.04 in UEFI mode on a HP Pavilion dv6-6c40ca.
Or is it impossible? My laptop, despite its new age may not be UEFI 2.0+ capable. If it isn't how can I install a software UEFI (i.e. a DUET such as the one by tianocore). Or is this too impossible?
A link to my laptop's specs is: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03137924&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=ca&dlc=en&lang=en&lc=en&product=5218530
My laptop should have a UEFI given this link from HP http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c01442956#N218. And from the link I draw a quote: That means most notebooks distributed with Windows Vista, and all notebooks distributed with Windows 7, have the UEFI environment. My laptop had Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed.
OK. Following the comments so far --
NOTE: I am trying to do this on an external drive so I can see if it works.
I have partitioned the drive using GParted as a GPT drive.
Created a 200MB partition at the beginning of the drive with a FAT32 file system.
Given the 200MB partition a label of "EFI".
Set the boot flag on the 200MB partition.
What should a do next to install Ubuntu 12.04?
Given the link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFIBooting#Selecting_the_.28U.29EFI_Graphic_Protocol
In my first read through (just to see if I will understand everything before I start) I get to step 2.3 Install GRUB2 in (U)EFI systems
The first line is Boot into Linux (any live ISO) preferably in UEFI mode. Um .. how do you tell what mode your liveCD is in?! And how do you change it if the mode is wrong?
Has anyone tried streaming media with VLC as server? I want to deploy VLC as streaming server, but my department didn't had a nice experience with VLC streaming.
My question is has anyone tried VLC streaming over LAN with as many as 200 clients? What were the precautions to be taken before going for the actual showdown? What kind of transport stream is better for a smoother live streaming?
Are any test bench I can use to convince my superiors?
I have to do a virtual host to another virtual host transfer , Both of them are hosted on Rackspace , OS (Red hat 4 ).
client is using this server for hosting more than 10 live sites , lots of files in /var/www.
I transferred all files and db from old to new ,
My questions:
what else should I need to worry about ?
how to transfer all cron job too?
is I need to make entry of each site on httpd.conf or rackspace will do it , during IP swapping ?
I use Outlook 2007, and have a Hotmail/Live webmail account. Using Outlook Connector, I want them to be synced to Outlook 2007 on my Windows 7 HP machine, however when I click on the folder name (e.g. [email protected]) in the 'Navigation Pane' under all the usual folders such as 'Inbox', 'Deleted Items', etc, it just shows a blank inbox stating that there are no items to be shown.
I wanna upload a song to youtube, and put a static 1280x720 pic as the video. I'd like the format to be one of the recommended ones.
I tried Windows Movie Maker 2.6 but it only generated a 640x480 video.
I also tried Windows Live Movie Maker but it put a big black margin around my pic (and unexplicably, produced a video with a slightly lower volume).
Do you know any way to do what I need?
Our site was running fine with Apache, but I am switching us over to Nginx (with php-fastcgi) to be more scalable.
Everything is working fine except our HTML gets truncated sometimes (usually on large pages).
Live server running Apache: http://bros4bros.com/index.php?action=browse_members&members_page=50 (WARNING: half naked guys!)
New server running Nginx: http://50.56.238.208/index.php?action=browse_members&members_page=50
I have tried modifying these settings with no avail:
max_execution_time
fastcgi_send_timeout
Does anyone know where I can find the i386 centos 4.7 repos files that would normally sit in /etc/yum.repos.d. Alas, it looks like someone copied the 5.5 edition over to a 4.7 system.
I can setup a new VM, install 4.7 and extract the files from that system (but I was hoping for a faster approach.
Please let me know if you know where these files live on the net. I'm off to RPMfind to see what I can locate.
Thanks
Peter
I've windows 8.1 pro Build 9600 x64 installed, I have recently installed Windows Movie Maker 2012 (Latest) via Windows Live Essential,
Now when I run Movie Maker it disable Movie Maker sound as well as all windows sound and keeps it mute until I close Movie Maker, as per their suggestion Huge Problems With Movie Maker Sound I have also updated my audio drivers,
I'm using Dell Inspiron 15R 5520, and I have this audio device/driver Conexant HD CX20672-21Z Audio Driver with Version 8.54.37.0,A03 Last Updated 12/20/2013
I need to edit and create a video by this weekend and this is the only tool I know how to use,
So I've got a Mac in the post coming to me, and will probably be doing quite a bit of development on it so I am looking for a text editor (PHP + HTML mainly).
I curently use Notepad++ on Windows and I simply cannot live without the function list plugin (It displays all functions in the current PHP file in a box on the right). Do any Mac text editors have this functionality? I am fairly sure that Notepad++ isn't available on an Apple.
Thanks!
About a year ago, I added a 9800GT (1 GB version) and a Corsair CX500 PSU to an HP M8000N computer. A few weeks ago, the HDD overheated and I decided to transfer the GPU & PSU to a new build, which consists of:
i3 @ 3.3Ghz
Gigabyte H61 Micro ATX Mobo
4GB RAM
500GB WD HDD
DVD RW Drive
Cooler Master Elite 430 Tower
Once I had Win7 up and running, I installed all the essential drivers that came with the Gigabyte Mobo CD. However, whenever I tried installing the Graphics Media Accelerator driver, the computer would crash and enter an endless boot sequence on the next startup. I skipped installing this driver and installed the CD driver for the 9800GT, which by now is a year old.
Everything was working fine, WEI rated my GPU at 6.6 graphics & aero performance. However, after updating my Nvidia drivers to the latest, the WEI dropped my rating to 3.3 for Aero, and 4.7 for graphics performance. Just to make sure that everything was ok, I ran Bad Company 2 on medium settings. The first few minutes ran just fine at a smooth framerate, so I dismissed this as Windows being Windows.
About 6 hours later, I ran BC2 again. This time I averaged anywhere from 2-5 FPS. I checked the GPU temperature through GPU-Z, and it came back as 120C. The problem with this, is that the computer was on for six hours up to that point. Wouldn't the card have experienced a reactor core meltdown a lot sooner than that? Granted, the computer was "sleeping" some of the time, but still...
The next day I took out a temperature gun and ran some tests. I would point the laser at a very specific area on the reverse side of the card (not the fan or "front"), and compare the temp reading with GPU-Z. After leaving the system on idle on idle for a few minutes, I ran BC2 twice. Here are the results:
GPU-Z Reading / Temp Gun Reading / Time
Null / 22.3°C / Comp is Off
53°C / 33.5°C / 1:49
78°C / 46°C / 1:53 - (First BC2 run; good framerate)
102°C / 64.6°C / 2:01 - (System is again on idle)
113°C / 64.8°C / 2:10
119°C / 71.8°C / 2:17 - (Second BC2 run; poor framerate)
I should also mention that I also took a temp recording of another part of the GPU from 2:01-2:17. The temp in this area jumped from 75°C to 82.9°C in that time frame.
This pretty much confirms that GPU-Z is reporting the temperature accurately, and the card is overheating. But I'd like to know why; the cars is doing nothing and still the temperature climbs at a steady rate. I thoroughly cleaned the GPU and PSU when I salvaged them from the old HP M8000N computer with a can of compressed air, dust cant be the issue. Similarly, the rest of the computer is brand new. I installed various Nvidia drivers, but no luck. It seems strange to me that a year-old card is suddenly failing on me; aren't they supposed to last at least two years?
Could this be a driver issue? Is the motherboard faulty? Could the PSU be overfeeding the card on voltage? Neither case seems likely, as the CPU, RAM and otherwise the rest of the comp has worked flawlessly and has stayed well within respectable temp ranges (the i3 lingers around 50C, the HDD stays at 30C, so does the PSU). How can I pinpoint the issue?

I asked Skype team if they have a corporate instant messenger, but they didn't give me a straight answer.
My company wants employees to send message and files to each other, just like Skype or Windows Live Messenger.
The bottom line here is: they don't want people to contact internet users. Only employees would be possible contacts.
Is there any product like this?
I think would be necessary a corporate server for this solution?
As I boot into the Ubuntu 10.10 (or 11.04, doesn't matter) live environment or installer, it just refuses to recognise my Vertex 2. It reports the disk as ATA and not supporting smart, shows no serial number, and doesn't list the size correctly.
All fdisk tells me is Unable to read /dev/sda (it's the only storage in the PC).
I'm now running a temporary install of Windows 7 off of it, which worked like a charm, so where am I going wrong with Ubuntu...
Specs:
Asus M4N68T-M LE V2 (BIOS 0702, most recent)
OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 60 GB
Amd Athlon II X4 640
Patriot PSD34G13332 4GB DDR3 ram (two banks)
EDIT
I installed a second drive, installed Ubuntu on that and booted, it recognised the SSD just fine. I'm now trying to apt-get upgrade the live-environment. I wonder if there is any way to sort of install Ubuntu from Ubuntu (I boot into the working install on the other drive, install it on the SSD and then boot from the SSD).
EDIT2
Ok, so that doesn't work. The install detects the SSD, however, it cannot format it.
EDIT3
After a fresh boot I can read out SMART-data and even perform a read-benchmark, but if I try to format it, or do a write-bench, it'll crap out and after that it says SMART is not supported. So basically it seems I can't write to the disk, as it will stop working when I do, I will try to run repeated read-benchmarks to see if that has any effect.
EDIT4
I'm running several read benchmarks on the drive right now, they give results that are to be expected from an SSD. If the read-benches don't fail, I can use fdisk on the disk, but it is now stuck trying to re-read the partition table after issueing the 'w' command.
EDIT5
Parted Magic did recognize the drive and with hdparm -I even could tell me the drive was in a frozen state. I powercycled it (just pull out the plug from the SSD and plug it back in) and it wasn't frozen anymore. After that I could upgrade the firmware on the drive (still using Parted Magic) and format it to Ext4. After I rebooted into the Ubuntu installer, it wouldn't get recognized and hdparm didn't want to talk to it saying HDIO_DRIVE_CMD(identify) failed: Invalid exchange.
EDIT6
For some reason if I enable one of the RAID controllers (the one the SSD is connected to, obviously) Ubuntu will let me format it, mount it and write to it. The installer also recognizes it. However if the raid controller is enabled but no array is defined the motherboard can't boot from it :(
Here is the part of my current apache config that refers to cgi-bin stuff. This info was included in the default configuration in debian. Should this be removed on a live/production machine?
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /usr/lib/cgi-bin/
<Directory "/usr/lib/cgi-bin">
AllowOverride None
Options +ExecCGI -MultiViews +SymLinksIfOwnerMatch
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
I am doing some development that requires some interaction with an NNTP server, however I don't want to develop against a live server for obvious reasons and am trying to get a local NNTP server setup for testing, but for the life of me I can't find any guides on setting one up in (preferably) Windows 7.
Can anyone shed some light? I've found that in IIS 6 you were able to setup an NNTP server, but I unfortunately do not have a 2003 VM at my disposal, I'm stuck with either XP or Windows 7.
Thanks
I'm interested in finding a free piece of software for Windows XP & 7 that allows us to measure both incoming and outgoing internet traffic, but not traffic between users of the local network.
I live in a shared household with three others, and we're interested to see which of us is using the largest amount of our monthly internet quota. We're all happy to install the necessary software.
Any suggestions?
I'm trying to install Lync server 2010 but i'm stuck for a while now with the "Active Directory Preparation" part of the Lync server 2010 installation.
The "Prepare Schema" fails with the following error:
"Step 1: Prepare Schema
Run once per deployment. Extends the schema for Lync Server.
Not Available: Failure occurred while attempting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable."
screenshot: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742
The situation:
1 server with Windows Server 2003 (x86), which is the only Domain Controller (DC)
1 server with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) where Lync should be installed.
First I have found that the DFL/FFL were not correct:
On the DC (server2003) I have changed the Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003 and also the Forest Functional Level to Windows Server 2003.
If I check these settings on the Server2008 with Active Directory Domains and Trusts, I see indeed that the DFL and FFL are being set to Windows Server 2003.
(Windows Server 2003 is the minimum required for Lync server 2010)
I tried the Lync AD Preparation again but still got the same message: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742
I'm logged in on the Server2008 and Server2003 with the domain administrator account.
If I check "Active Directory Users and Computers" and go to the directory Users and watch the properties from the Administrator User then it is also a Member of:
Domain Admins
Domain Users
Enterprise Admins
Schema Admins
Group Policy Creator Owners
The firewall on the server2008 is turned off, still nog working
So now my question is: what should I do to make the Lync setup (Active Directory Preparation) work?
(I would appreciate clear step-by-step suggestions to check.)
Thanks in advance.
Update 1:
Now I've extended AD successfully on the 2003 DC, using this link: http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/sloan_jason/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=2
but when I check the Active Directory Preparation again on the Lync install, it still gives me the same error as in the screenshot I've provided.
Update 2:
I found out that there is a log on "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\
with this:
Get-CSDomainState Get Domain State
Error: An error occurred:
"Microsoft.Rtc.Management.ADConnect.NoSuitableServerFoundException"
"No suitable domain controller was found in domain "OurDomain.LOCAL".
Errors:\r\n"OurDCserver.OurDomain.LOCAL5.2 (3790)5.2 (3790) Service
Pack1OurDCserver.OurDomain.LOCAL5.2 (3790)5.2 (3790)Service Pack 1""
I thought Lync could be installed with a Windows Server 2003 (according to the documentation on technet) and it doesn't require a SP. :s
I need to convert Microsoft Office Word .doc files into the new format .docx of Office 2007.
I need it to be done via the command line since it's an application where people upload .doc files and i want them automatically to be converted to .docx.
I can live with a link to a downloadable .exe file if yo can provide, a C++ code will be even better.
10x.
For an experienced Windows user wanting to start experimenting with Linux, which distro provides the closest Windows experience? Assuming the use cases enumerated below:
Web browsing
Working with Office 2003/2007 documents
File indexing (desktop search)
Basic Sql Server 2005 database administration
Media playback(MP3, M4P, WMV, WMA, dvds, etc)
Windows Live instant messaging
Skype calls/video calls
Organizing millions of files
FTP/SFTP, SSH, telnet automation
If I try to copy a file onto a NTFS partition in Linux, I get a warning message Could not change permissions for <file-name>. Is there any way to suppress this message ? I can live with this message while I copy the files in terminal, but when transferring from Dolphin a modal dialog box is shown and it gets pretty irritating.
I'm using openSUSE 11.2, on KDE 4.4 RC.
Intellitype Pro is a nice software that helps me when I'm using my Ms keyboard. When I'm on the road using my laptop's built-in keyboard it interprets some of the keys incorrectly and reacts on them, for instance the Fn + Down Arrow opens Windows Live Messenger (in addition to lowering brightness, which is governed by Dell's driver).
I want to stop Intellitype when I'm on the road and reload it when I'm home using the external keyboard.
Note: original problem (conflict with itype) posted here.
I'm sitting here listening to a radio show that is being broadcast live over an internet stream, but I would like to keep bits and pieces for later-enjoyment. Is there a way I can easily record streams in real-time? I should note also (not sure if it's necessary or not) that this stream requires me to first login before listening.
