  • red-black tree - construction

    - by Chaitanya
Recently, I have been going through search trees and I encountered red-black trees, the point confusing me is, In r-b tree, the root node should be black thats fine, now how will I decide whether the incoming node assumes red or black color. I have gone through the wiki article but have not found a solution for this. I might be wrong, but I would be happy if someone can guide me through the exact material. Thank you.

  • Join ACM, join IEEE, or read programming books?

    - by Laura
I read blogs and listen to podcasts, and I own many of the "classic" programming books. For the money, what kind of printed material would you say is the most valuable to keep current in software engineering -- books, or magazines from professional organizations such as ACM and IEEE? Which organization has the best periodicals?

  • Templates - Exercises

    - by atch
Hi, As I mentioned in my yesterday's post, I'm trying to teach myself templates from the book: Templates: The Complete Guide. And although I'm finding this book very nicely presented and material there is explained really well there are no exercises attached after each chapter to test your knowlege, like it is in The C++ Language by B.S for example and had done all exercises from "The C++" I really feel benefit from doing them. So what I'm asking today is: Does anyone know where can I get excersises with templates. Thank you.

  • Infinite scrolling in Silverlight

    - by shannon.stewart
I've found a few questions about infinite scrolling already posted, but none were about Silverlight, so I thought I'd ask. I've done some initial searching, but haven't been able to find any reference material on how to implement infinite scrolling in Silverlight. This is more of a brain-storming exercise so I can get some thoughts on different ways to implement this.

  • TDD/BDD screencast/video resources

    - by Ree
I've recently finished watching the Autumn of Agile screencasts and I'm looking for more material of similar scope. Basically, I'm looking for screencasts that present TDD/BDD process while developing somewhat "real life" applications (or parts of them) - so no 20 minute intros please. I'm surprised not to find anything like that though. If you know of any resources that fit the requirement, please list them.

  • Storing data in HTML, javascript book, articles recommendations.

    - by michael
I'm looking for articles or books that discuss schemes and techniques adopted by pro javascript developers to store and organize data with html tags. In other words, how to emulate xml data storage with html as semantically as possible. Some various solutions that I've seen mentioned in passing are custom DTD, custom attributes with xhtml, early adoption of html5 and its data- attribute. Now, I'm looking for some tangible material that goes in depth with these concepts.

  • website design - graphics files

    - by mb08
Hi Friends, I have a website to be designed and have most of the material ready with me. I have shortlisted a designer who is ready to start. The question I have is, should I hand over the original .psd graphics files of logo etc to the designer. Is it ok to hand over the .psds or is there any risk in doing so that I should be aware of and cover with an agreement... thanks in advance.. mb

  • Drawing lattices online

    - by lavabo
This isn't really a programming question but... Is there any way to draw online a lattice for a material, like a compound? i.e. a 3D gridlike pattern? I know there are some applications for drawing mathematical lattices, but the notation to me is unfamiliar - are there simply programs or applets or something for drawing lattices like in a compound?

  • Conventions for modelling c programs.

    - by Hassan Syed
I'm working with a source base written almost entirely in straight-c (nginx). It does, however, make use of rich high level programming techniques such as compile-time metaprogramming, and OOP - including run-time dispatch. I want to draw ER diagrams, UML class diagrams and UML sequence diagrams. However to have a clean mapping between the two, consistent conventions must be applied. So, I am hopping someone has some references to material that establishes or applies such conventions to similar style c-code.

  • Unexpected ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException in JavaFX application, refering to no array

  • Generate 2D cross-section polygon from 3D mesh

    - by nornagon
I'm writing a game which uses 3D models to draw a scene (top-down orthographic projection), but a 2D physics engine to calculate response to collisions, etc. I have a few 3D assets for which I'd like to be able to automatically generate a hitbox by 'slicing' the 3D mesh with the X-Y plane and creating a polygon from the resultant edges. Google is failing me on this one (and not much helpful material on SO either). Suggestions?
