  how can I eliminate duplicate elements from an array of ruby objects using an attribute of the object to match identical objects. with an array of basic types I can use a set.. eg. array_list = [1, 3, 4 5, 6, 6] array_list.to_set => [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6] can I adapt this technique to work with object attributes? thanks

• Writing a function for UIAlertView?

  I'm sick of writing basic UIAlertView's, ie: UIAlertView *alert = [[UIAlertView alloc] initWith...]] //etc Instead of doing this, is it possible to put all this in a "helper" function, where I can return the buttonIndex, or whatever an alert usually returns? For a simple helper function I guess you could feed parameters for the title, message, I'm not sure whether you can pass delegates in a parameter though, or bundle info. In pseudo-code, it could be like this: someValueOrObject = Print_Alert(Title="", Message="", Delegate="", Bundle="") // etc Any help on this would be great. Thanks

Which class is responsible for creating a new objItem? Which class is responsible for deleting a objItem? Should it delete itself as a method?

  I have seen questions on SO regarding volunteering for potential employers or volunteering to help out on open source projects. But what about putting your IT skills to use at traditional non-profit organizations as a volunteer? I would like to volunteer some time to a worthwhile cause in 2010, but am having a hard time finding organizations who may need IT help. Does anyone do this? Are there any websites out there to help one find organizations looking for such help? I would think some must have a need for free software development type work? I saw a bit on 'WeVolunteer' that publishes a database of volunteer opportunities (http://www.wetv.com/volunteer.html), but it seems to be more 'typical' volunteer opportunities (soup kitchens, walk-a-thons, etc).

• What is the best way to manage unix process from java?

  I'm looking for some simple tasks like listing all the running process of a user, or kill a particular process by pid etc. Basic unix process management from Java. Is there a library out there that is relatively mature and documented? I could run a external command from the JVM and then parse the standard output/error but that seems like a lot of work and not robust at all. Any suggestions?

All I've really taken from it is that it would probably be easier just make a collection of functions and include them. I know its certainly not going to be cost-efficient, for instance, to rewrite Adobe Photoshop in BASIC, but could a good enough and patient enough programmer potentially create any program in any language?

  First of all, I would like to say that I have used the search box looking for a similar question unsuccessfully, maybe because of my poor english skills. The way I currently do this is checking in every single page that a session has been opened. If not, the user gets redirected to a 404 page, to seem like the file which has been requested doesn't exist. I really don't know if this is sure or there's a better and more safety way and I'm currently working with kind of confidential data that should never become public. Could you give me some tips?   Hi all, I have a small amount of programing experience with Siemens and Allen Bradley but would like to make my own app for a certain website I frequent. I would like the website to be a little more user friendly for me instead of having to open browser etc. Is it possible to have a simple forum translated into a widget so you can see the forum posts and post from there?
