We're looking at possibly upgrading to Exchange 2010. Just wondering that if many other companies have done so, and if so, what the compelling features were for them in order to upgrade
I am installing Visual Studio 2010 on a vista 64 bits machine.
During the install it asked for a restart.
Since that, vista won't load. I tried restore to previous good configuration - didn't help.
I am only able to boot it using safe mode with networking. When I did that, it continued the vista part of the install (the screen with the 3 out of 3 updates) but after that when I restarted again - still fails.
Sometimes we’ve entered data in a column in Excel, only to realize later that it would be better to have this data in a row, or vise-versa. Here’s a simple trick to convert any row or set of rows into a column, or vise-versa, in Excel.
Please Note: This is tested in Excel 2003, 2007, and 2010. Here we took screenshots from Excel 2010 x64, but it works the same on the other versions.
Convert a Row to a Column
Here’s our data in Excel:
We want to change these two columns into rows. Select all the cells you wish to convert, right-click, and select copy (or simply press Ctrl+C):
Now, right-click in the cell where you want to put the data in rows, and select “Paste Special…”
Check the box at the bottom that says “Transpose”, and then click OK.
Now your data that was in columns is in rows!
This works the exact same for converting rows into columns. Here’s some data in rows:
After copying and pasting special with Transpose selected, here’s the data in columns!
This is a great way to get your data organized just like you want in Excel.

I'm experimenting with an installation of TFS 2010 Beta 2 on a virtual machine under VirtualBox running Windows Server 2008. When I've got the server in a workgroup, I can connect to it from Visual Studio just fine, as long as I provide credentials for a local user on the server machine when prompted by the "Connect to Team Foundation Server" dialog. The desktop I'm running Visual Studio on is joined to a domain.
However, when I join the server to the domain, I can no longer connect to it from Visual Studio. I get a pretty generic error message: "TF31002 - Unable to connect to team foundation server". It gives me several different possible problems, including an incorrect address or an incorrect username and password.
I've already added the domain Windows identity with which I'm logged on the the desktop to the TFS Admins group on the server, so I don't think it's a username/password problem. I've also tried putting the literal IP address of the server in the dialog address box instead of the machine name, but still no dice. I made sure that network discovery was enabled on the server, too, and can navigate to "\\webserver2008" in Windows Explorer without any problems. Shouldn't be a firewall problem, since the TFS install creates the appropriate exceptions in Windows Firewall. It's all a bit confusing, since it seems to work when the server is in a workgroup.
Note: I'm a dev, not an admin, so there are many subtleties of server administration with which I'm not familiar. Please make no assumptions about what I may or may not have tried; what may be obvious to you may have never occurred to me. Thanks in advance!
I have a basic Access to Excel question that has me frustrated.
I have two Access 2010 data tables. One is a list of managers. The primary key is a manager ID (which is an autonumber because managers can have the same name), and each row also has manager name, manager email, etc.
The second data table is a list of departments. The primary key for each row is a unique department code, and the foreign key is a manager ID (autonumber). I used the Look-up Wizard to create this connection. However, Access does not show the manager ID in the foreign key location. It shows Manager Name like I requested when I used the Look-up Wizard.
Now I am trying to import the second table (departments) into Excel 2010. I clicked import from Access, chose the Department table, and everything popped into Excel. BUT, the Manager Name column is showing Manager ID instead. So I have a list of numbers instead of names.
How can I make Excel show what I see in Access?
Thanks!
Hi,
I have a very unusual problem.
I have Outlook 2010 connected to Exchange 2010. This can send emails perfectly to known addresses (that is, addresses in the address book or ones that have been sent to previously).
However, if I put in an address that is unknown, I cannot actually click the Send button in Outlook. (it simply does nothing). Corresponding to this I get errors in the Event Log for each Send click stating "The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.". However, Outlook shows as connected the whole time, pings do not break, and I have no reason to suspect it has lost connection.
To further complicate matters, Outlook is fine on all other PCs, and this was all perfect until I installed BitDefender on the PC in question and the Exchange Server. Outlook was still fine on these other PCs while BitDefender was installed, but I have removed it from the PC in question and the Server just in case (no success).
Summary: Outlook encounters Exchange connectivity issues when sending to unknown (new) email addresses that prevent the Send button actually working at all. This is isolated to one machine and occurred after installation of AV/Firewall software which has since been thoroughly removed.
If you have any potential solutions I'd love to hear them, as I will be resorting to reformatting the PC in question, and probably removing Exchange because I'm sick of its issues if I cannot resolve this soon.
Big thanks for any help.
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible, in Exchange server 2010, to disable a mailbox account, lets call it mailuser and if anyone sends a E-mail for [email protected] then it will send a mail back with some sort of standard "This E-mail is no longer in use. Please write to [email protected] instead" mail.
I know I can create an "out-of-office" reply from the users outlook, but it would be so much faster to do it within the exchange server.
Sincerely
Mestika

I've run the "Repair" from the installer, but it didn't help.

I really like the new People pane in Outlook 2010. Not for the "Social" features, but for finding related emails and attachments.
But.. I does not work. It is totally broken.
On some people does not show any mail, and only some mails in others.
I've tried re-indexing and recreating the profile, not to avail.
Do you know some trick to make it work?
Using 32bits outlook, without Exchange, only local.
I have a couple users who need multiple email addresses (alias) forwarded to their accounts but setting up a separate user and forwarding the email is showing the email to the users main address instead of the aliased email.
For example, here is what I need:
[email protected] is the users email address but they also need to receive emails sent to [email protected], and [email protected]. When the emails are sent to the other two email addresses I want them to be forwarded to the user and showing that it was sent to the redundancy email address and not john.doe because the user needs to be able to filter these emails as well as reply from the redundancy department email address.
How can I set up alias' in exchange 2010 to work this way?
Thanks

Here is the scenario: I have 2 Exchange Server 2010 on 2 different Virtual Machines, created by and based on Hyper-V. They have IP and domain: 192.168.5.11, domainA.com ; and 192.168.5.12, domainB.com respectively.
The problem is, I only have 1 public IP, say 123.123.1.1 . How do I configure the settings so that I can successfully receive emails using both Exchange servers?
Given that I cannot use single Exchange server for multiple domains.
-- UPDATE --
To clarify, the domainA.com and domainB.com mentioned above are website domains, instead of multiple Active Directory forests. Users of the two Exchange Server shares the same Active Directory. I know that ONE Exchange Server can handle multiple domains, but I would like to separate them into different Virtual Machines, for load balancing and data separation.
I'm not sure if this is a problem with Outlook 2010, or the fact that I don't have an Exchange box, or the fact that I have two MAPI mailboxes (both using Outlook Live Connector), or something else... so let me just describe the situation.
iTunes says that I'm sync'ing happily, all the Calendar, Contact items, Notes... and if I have changed several things I get the "you're changing more than 5% of items" warning, persuading me that the sync'ing is working.
I just can't find those items on my PC. They're not sync'ing with either of my Live accounts (Calendar or Contacts), and I can't find any track of anything. iTunes says I have Calendar folders called "" and "Calendar", but doesn't show any Contact groups at all.
So how do I find out where they're going to... or change where they're going to... or anything?
I'm having difficulty running Exchange 2010 cmdlets through remote PowerShell sessions.
I start my local PowerShell session as Administrator and issue the following commands --
PS C:\Windows\system32> $mailcred = Get-Credential
PS C:\Windows\system32> $mailSession = New-PSSession -ComputerName MAILSRV -Credential $mailcred
PS C:\Windows\system32> Enter-PSSession $mailSession
[MAILSRV]: PS C:\Users\jdoe\Documents> Add-PSSnapin Microsoft.Exchange.Management.PowerShell.E2010
[MAILSRV]: PS C:\Users\jdoe\Documents> hostname
MAILSRV
[MAILSRV]: PS C:\Users\jdoe\Documents> Get-ExchangeServer
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: serverSettings
+ CategoryInfo :
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.ArgumentNullException,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.SystemConfigurationTasks.GetExchangeServer
[MAILSRV]: PS C:\Users\jdoe\Documents> get-mailbox
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: serverSettings
+ CategoryInfo :
+ FullyQualifiedErrorId : System.ArgumentNullException,Microsoft.Exchange.Management.RecipientTasks.GetMailbox
As you can see, none of the Exchange cmdlets are working. What could be the issue?

Hi I just installed outlook 2010, and saw this conversation feature.
However my sent mails does not appear in the conversation.
How do I make it appear there?
PS: I'm not using exchange. Is there a way to do this without exchange?
EDIT: There's something Weird happening. I'm testing this and it appears to work only sometimes. And When I Try this at the other company's computer that uses Exchange, but don't have exchange Cached mode enabled this doesn't work. And the option Show messages from other folders is not even there.
we have a user on Exchange 2010 server who doesn't get email from one specific domain if her address is in cc: field. If she is a main recipient (To:) it goes through. We checked Exchange logs and it looks like our server doesn't even try to deliver it, it simply ignores her email address completely.
We did several tests:
send email with her email address in cc: field from another domain, succeeded
send email with her email address in to: field from another domain, succeeded
send email with her email address in to: field from affected domain, succeeded
turn off all email rules
check via webmail
We also turned off firewall, antispam and antivirus for SMTP rule.
Does anyone have any idea what could be an issue here?
Thanks
I currently upgrading from an Exchange server 2007 to 2010. I have moved all mailboxes and OAB. I am having issues replicating the public folders. This is the error I'm getting in the event log on the 2007 box:
Error 1129 occurred while processing a replication event.
Folder: (6-11ED8367F0C) IPM_SUBTREE\Marketing\Marketing
I have looked online and everything about these errors seems to relate from an old 2003 server. Well, we never had a 2003 server.
I'm really not sure what to do at this point. Any help?
Senior vice president of the Developer Division at Microsoft, S. Somasegar announced the availability of VS 2010 and .Net 4. He writes the following: “This represents the biggest tools release from Microsoft in many years.” Silverlight 4 coming later this week He also writes about Silverlight 4 - “I am also thrilled to say that Silverlight 4 will be released to the Web later this week. When Silverlight 4 is released, you will be able to download an update for Visual Studio 2010 to support Silverlight 4 development.” See the full post here. more later - joel
A teammate at work sent out a meeting request to several people. They all accepted. However, one of those people's meeting acceptance notes keeps spamming the creators Inbox. The meeting acceptance came in probably more than 100 times. They were deleted and then shortly after a hundred more or so came in. This is in Outlook 2010. This is such a weird problem and I'm not really sure where to begin looking. Unfortunately I don't have access to the actual Exchange server either. Any ideas?
When we provision users we set the "User must change password at next logon" flag and instruct them to go to OWA to login for the first time and change their password. Using the registry setting ChangeExpiredPasswordEnabled as explained here:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb684904.aspx
worked well prior to SP2 installation. This allows users with 'expired' passwords to logon and forces a password change before they can access OWA. We just installed Exchange 2010 Service Pack 2 and now it's no longer working. Users with this flag set ('expired' passwords) can't login in at all unless we clear the flag.
FYI here's the registry key configuration as set now with SP2 installed:
Any suggestions as to how I might fix this? Or did MS break this feature in Service Pack 2?
Hi,
I have just downloaded and installed Office2010 RTM. Overall, it is very nice, but I miss having proofing tools available for my native language, Danish.
I have installed the 2007 Proofing Tools, but they do not work with 2010:
For this release we have made significant changes in the proofing infrastructure, therefore the Language Packs from previous Office versions including Office 2007 are not compatible with Office2010.
Does anyone know a workaround until the 2010 Proofing Tools are released?
Thank you,
Martin
I'm trying to group by date in an Excel 2010 pivot table.
The column with dates (i.e., the one want to group by), should be the latest date of 2 other columns if neither is null, or blank. i.e., with a formula like:
=IF(AND(A4 <> "", B4 <> ""), MAX(A4,B4), "")
Normally, this ""in the IF() formula acts the same as an empty cell. In this case, it is preventing me from grouping by date in the Pivot Table. If I filter the date column by (Blanks), then clear the contents of all those cells, then the pivot table does group by date ok. i.e., "" is not being treated the same as an empty cell.
Is there a way to adjust the spacing between list elements in Word 2010?
I can apply a style to the list, and then edit the style, and edit the spacing before and after the element, but this applies to the list, not the list element.
There are no styles I can see which can be applied to a list element allowing the spacing between list elements to be adjusted.
If I select 1 list element, and then adjust the spacing before or after in the Page Layout tab, this applies to the whole list, not the list element, which defeats the purpose.
I have a small SharePoint 2010 farm (1 WFE / App Server & 1 SQL server)
Our organisation is currently mirgrating to our holding company's global domain, so we now have a new local DC on site with trusts between the current domain and the new domain.
I am going to need to move our SP Farm to the new domain and possibly rename servers to fit into the global naming convention (we are trying to avoid this at the moment, but might become a requirement)
If there a way to script (stsadm / powershell) the user profiles and permission accross to the new domain? and on the server side, is it as simple as joining the servers to the new domain and updating all the service / farm accounts to accounts on new domain?
I have googled this a bit, but everything I have found so far refers to MOSS 2007 or earlier.
Any help / advise would be appreciated.
