  • Suppressing the language select button iPhone

    - by AWinter
I'm working on an application now that contains an account register section. One field with secureTextEntry = NO (for registering only). The idea is this make registration faster and hopefully increases the number of signups. It's simple enough for me to just place a regular UITextField but if the user has any additional language keyboards then it's possible for the user to enter non-password friendly characters. Unlike in when secureTextEntry = YES. I know I can do textField.keyboardType = UIKeyboardTypeASCIICapable to get the text field to display the ASCII keyboard first, but the user will still have the keyboard switch button which will allow them to get to undesirable characters. Is there a simple method for suppressing the international button or forcing ASCII only keyboard with no international button? [EDIT] Another perhaps better option might be to suppress multi byte keyboards or even to display the text in the case that secureTextEntry = YES any ideas here? [EDIT AGAIN] I've decided it's a really bad idea to suppress the international button as non-multibyte characters should all be allowed.

  • iphone SDK confusion

    - by eco_bach
Hi I accidentally deleted my sdk 3.0 directory, thinking I didn't need it. Now when I launch and compile a project it says that my base sdk is missing. Where can I download the 3.0 sdk? All that is available in Dev Center are the 3.2 and 4 beta sdks?

  • iphone in-app purchases not working after rejection

    - by Joey
I recently had an issue with my in-app purchases, so had them rejected. I found that upon creating new ones and approving them, I am getting no products back from my SKProductsRequest. Do new in-app purchases require some delay to be updated on their servers or is there some common reason that they stop working when an app is rejected?

  • iPhone PopUp RGB colors

    - by McLas
Hi, I am presenting a UIView with an animation that takes half of the screen. I've seen it in many apps but could not find the appropriate RGB colors: iOS uses it for example in "contacts": http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/9402/image001u.png I'm trying with : bottomLayer.backgroundColor = [[UIColor colorWithRed:80.0/255.0 green:86.0/255.0 blue:97.0/255.0 alpha:1] CGColor]; but it's all whitey. If anyone could get how this popup is designed... Thanks!

  • iphone NSMutableArray loses objects at end of method

    - by Brodie4598
    Hello - in my app, an NSMutableArray is populated with an object in viewDidLoad (eventually there will be many objects but I'm just doing one til I get it working right). I also start a timer that starts a method that needs to access the NSMutableArray every few seconds. The NSMutableArray works fine in viewDidLoad, but as soon as that method is finished, it loses the object. myApp.h @interface MyApp : UIViewController { NSMutableArray *myMutableArray; NSTimer *timer; } @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *myMutableArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSTimer *timer; @end myApp.m #import "MyApp.h" @implementation MyApp @synthesize myMutableArray; - (void) viewDidLoad { cycleTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:4.0 target:self selector:@selector(newCycle) userInfo: nil repeats:YES]; MyObject *myCustomUIViewObject = [[MyObject alloc]init]; [myMutableArray addObject:myCustomUIViewObject]; [myCustomUIViewObject release]; NSLog(@"%i",[myMutableArray count]); /////outputs "1" } -(void) newCycle { NSLog(@"%i",[myMutableArray count]); /////outputs "0" ?? why is this?? }

  • iPhone RSS thumbnail

    I have a simple RSS reader. Stories are downloaded, put into a UITableView, and when you click it, each story loads in a UIWebView. It works great. Now though, I'd like to incorporate an image on the left side (like you'd see in the YouTube app). However, since my app pulls from an RSS feed, I can't simply specify image X to appear in row X because row X will be row Y tomorrow, and things will get out of order, you know? I am currently pulling from a YouTube RSS feed, and can get the video title, description, publication date, but I'm stuck as to how to pull the little thumbnail besides each entry in the feed. As you can probably tell, I'm a coding newbie (this being my first application other than a Hello World app) and I'm getting so frustrated by my own lack of knowledge. Thanks! BTW, here's some sample code: - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict{ //NSLog(@"found this element: %@", elementName); if (currentElement) { [currentElement release]; currentElement = nil; } currentElement = [elementName copy]; if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) { // clear out our story item caches... item = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] init]; currentTitle = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentDate = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentSummary = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; currentLink = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; } } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName{ //NSLog(@"ended element: %@", elementName); if ([elementName isEqualToString:@"item"]) { // save values to an item, then store that item into the array... [item setObject:currentTitle forKey:@"title"]; [item setObject:currentLink forKey:@"link"]; [item setObject:currentSummary forKey:@"summary"]; [item setObject:currentDate forKey:@"date"]; [stories addObject:[item copy]]; NSLog(@"adding story: %@", currentTitle); } } - (void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string{ //NSLog(@"found characters: %@", string); // save the characters for the current item... if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"title"]) { [currentTitle appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"link"]) { [currentLink appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"description"]) { [currentSummary appendString:string]; } else if ([currentElement isEqualToString:@"pubDate"]) { [currentDate appendString:string]; } }

  • Playing video and audio in iPhone not working...

    - by Scott
So we have buttons linked up to display images/videos/audio on click depending on a check we do earlier. That part works fine. It knows which one to play, however, when we click the buttons for video and audio, nothing happens. The image one works fine. The video and audio are being taken for a URL online, they are not local, but everywhere said this was still possible. Here is a little snippet of the code where we play the two files: if ( [fName hasSuffix:@".png"]) { NSLog(@"PICTURE"); NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString: fName]; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageWithData: [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]]; self.view = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:[[UIScreen mainScreen] applicationFrame]]; // self.view.backgroundColor = [[UIColor alloc] initWithPatternImage:[UIImage imageNamed:@"MainBG.jpg"]]; [self.view addSubview:[[UIImageView alloc] initWithImage:image]]; } if ( [fName hasSuffix:@".mp4"]) { NSLog(@"VIDEO"); //NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:fName ofType:@"mp4"]; //NSLog(path); NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:fName]; MPMoviePlayerController *player = [[MPMoviePlayerController alloc] initWithContentURL:url]; [player play]; } if ( [fName hasSuffix:@".mp3"]) { NSLog(@"AUDIO"); NSURL *url = [NSURL fileURLWithPath:fName]; NSData *soundData = [NSData dataWithContentsOfURL:url]; AVAudioPlayer *avPlayer = [[AVAudioPlayer alloc] initWithData:soundData error: nil]; [avPlayer play]; } See anything wrong? By the way it compiles and runs, but nothing happens when we hit the button that executes that code.

  • Count files in directories AND subdirectories? iPhone

    - by AWright4911
I am trying to count entire files in a directory, including subdirectories. This is what I have to count files in the first folder: -(NSString *)numberOfPhotos { NSString *MyPath = @"/rootdirectory/"; NSArray *directoryContent = [[NSFileManager defaultManager] directoryContentsAtPath:MyPath]; return [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%d", [directoryContent count]]; } I was thinking maybe something like for (file in folder){ [file count] { but doesnt seem to work.

  • iPhone - dismiss multiple ViewControllers

    - by Oscar Peli
Hi there, I have a long View Controllers hierarchy; in the first View Controller I use this code: SecondViewController *svc = [[SecondViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SecondViewController" bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:svc animated:YES]; [svc release]; In the second View Controller I use this code: ThirdViewController *tvc = [[ThirdViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ThirdViewController" bundle:nil]; [self presentModalViewController:tvc animated:YES]; [tvc release]; and so on. So there is a moment when I have many View Controllers and I need to come back to the first View Controller. If I come back one step at once, I use in every View Controller this code: [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; If I want to go back directly from the, say, sixth View Controller to the first one, what I have to do to dismiss all the Controllers at once? Thanks

  • iPhone / NSArray : How do I format a text file to be read in using arrayWithContentsOfFile

    - by nickthedude
I have several large word lists and I had been loading them in place in the code as follows: NSArray *dict3 = [[NSArray alloc] initWithObjects:@"abled",@"about",@"above",@"absurd",@"absurdity", ... but now it is actually causing an exc_bad_access error weirdly, i know it seems implausible but for some reason IT IS causing it. (trust me on this I just spend the better part of a day debugging this crap) Anyway, I'm looking to get these humongous lines of code out of my files but I'm not sure what the best approach is. I guess I could do a plist but I need to figure out how to automate the process. it be easiest if I could just use the text files I've been compiling so if anyone knows how I can format the text file so that the myArray = [NSArray arrayWithContentsOfFile: @"myTextFile.txt"]; will be read in correctly as one word per element in the array it would really be appreciated. Thanks, Nick

  • iPhone NSTimer OpenGL problem

    - by Toby Wilson
I've got a problem that only seems to occur on the device, not in the simulator. My app's animation is started and stopped using these methods: NSTimer* animationTimer; -(void)startAnimation { if(animationTimer = nil) animationTimer = [NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval:1.0f/60.0f target:self selector:@selector(drawView) userInfo:nil repeats:YES]; } -(void)stopAnimation { [animationTimer invalidate]; animationTimer = nil; } In the simulator this works fine and drawView starts being called at 60fps. On the device (testing on iPod Touch), the scheduleTimerWithTimeInterval method doesn't seem to work. Furthermore, [animationTimer invalidate] causes EXC_BAD_ACCESS. I've spotted an obvious but minor flaw; adding if(animationTimer != nil) to the stopAnimation method will prevent the crash, but doesn't solve the problem of the animation timer not being properly initialised. Edit: The above doesn't prevent a crash. animationTimer != nil yet calling invalidate causes EXC_BAD_ACCESS. Should also add, this problem doesn't occur all the time on the device. Maybe 40% of the time.

  • iPhone checklist app

    - by Brodie4598
I am trying to create a simple app that displays a list of items with check boxes next to each item, then give the user to simply check each box. Nothing (aside from the checkbox image switching) needs to happen when the check box is touched. Each checklist is a seperate NSDictionary contained in a single master NSDictionary. The checklist dictionary contains arrays for different sections of each checklist. At the top of the view, the user selects which set (dictionary) of checklists they want to open then I want that checklist to display underneath the picker once a "select checklist" button is pressed. Any ideas on the best way to get this done?

  • iPhone SDK Objective-C __DATE__ (compile date) can't be converted to an NSDate

    - by Janice
//NSString *compileDate = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"%s", __DATE__]; NSString *compileDate = [NSString stringWithUTF8String:__DATE__]; NSDateFormatter *df = [[[NSDateFormatter alloc] init] autorelease]; [df setDateFormat:@"MMM d yyyy"]; //[df setDateFormat:@"MMM dd yyyy"]; NSDate *aDate = [df dateFromString:compileDate]; Ok, I give up. Why would aDate sometimes return as nil? Should it matter if I use the commented-out lines... or their matching replacement lines?

  • Detecting network adapter changes on the iPhone

    - by theactiveactor
Say that there are no WIFI networks currently available and my network-enabled app is connected over 3G. How can I detect if a user has roamed into a WIFI network? I would also like to detect the case when the user is connected over WIFI and suddenly received 3G signal. In other words, I would like to be asynchronously notified of network adapter changes. I tried using the SCNetworkReachability framework asynchronously but found that for some reason, I am not receiving Wifi-related events (i.e. adapter on/off) when connected over 3G.
