Please could you let me know if there are any performance issues with using mysql on windows xp. The mysql serves over 10 client server apps, which query the database simultaneously
Cross-process memory buffers always have some overhead, and my understanding is this is quite high. But what if you're implementing a cross-process render-buffer, this isn't critically important in the same way as other data so are there techniques we can use to get 'raw' access to a chunk of memory from multiple processes, with no safety nets apart from it not crashing? Or do modern operating systems simply not work with unabstracted memory in a way to make this possible?
I'm working in C++ but the question applies to Win XP/Vista/7, MacOSX 10.5+ (& Linux less importantly).
I am running multiple applications with a single Codeigniter system/ folder using the recommended way on the Codeigniter wiki. Each application runs fine and I can link between apps using absolute URLs.
Is there some way I can use or extend the URL helper class (functions like anchor(), redirect()... etc.) to generate links to controllers across applications. I would like to avoid absolute URLs
Thanks!
This is just one of those things where you feel like your own design is utterly terrible, and that all of the other apps have a beautiful design. This question is just about how you would go about creating a user interface that a user would actually want to use?
I've written an Android app wich various abstract classes that perform useful functions. These functions could be leveraged in other apps.
I want to share a class module with another programmer, but I don't want to share the source code. I would like to share a .class file but I'm not sure how to do the following:
Compile an Android .java file into .class
What does the receiver of the .class file have to do to use that .class in their project? (using Eclipse environment)
Thank you very much
Hello,
Is it possible to access voice recognition in an iphone app, similar to voice dialing available in iphone 3gs...when the user says something that related information needs to be fetched... Is there any particular api for the same? I have seen apps on itunes..but how to go about it?
Thanks in advance.
As an iphone/ipad developer I am always on the lookout for a beautifully designed app; to appreciate the design and hopefully learn a few things from it.
Any one know of any resource (blog / web album ..etc) that has screens of well designed iphone/ipad apps?
thanks in advance.
Hi Guys ,
I am pretty new in Iphone Apps.
How do I upload Image/Photo from my Iphone to webserver. At web server I am using ASP.net c#.
Please help me with the Iphone as well as ASP.net code.
Many Thanks.
It's trivial to make a program executable from shell - just put #!/usr/bin/ruby on top, chmod +x it and done. Unfortunately OSX won't let me associate file type with such scripts - it requires its .apps instead. This sort of distinction doesn't seem to exist on other operating systems.
What's the simplest way of making such .app, which would merely execute some arbitrary Ruby code?
The term has several definition according to Wikipedia, however what I'm really interested in is creating a program that has all its needed dependencies included within the source folder, so the end user doesn't need to install additional libraries for the app to install. For example, how Mac apps has all its dependencies all within the program itself already...
or is there a function that autotools does this? I'm programming in the Linux environment...
I'm curious if anyone still creates icons other than RGB/A (or 32-bit with alpha-channel) for your Windows apps?
PS. I know that suggested model is to create 256-color versions of icons, but I always struggle with those. If I automatically convert them in an icon editor they totally decimate the look of my original icons with jagged edges and circa-Windows95 look. So if those are still required, does anyone know the stats on how many people are still using color settings other then 32-bit TrueColor?
I'm relatively new to flash, and is confused about what I should use to store and retrieve key value pairs. After some googling I've found various map-like things to choose from:
1) Use a Object:
var map:Object = new Object();
map["key"] = "value";
The problem is that it seems to lack some very basic features. For example to even get the size of map I'd have to write a util method.
2) Use a Dictionary
What does this standard library class provide over the simple object? It seems silly for it to exist if it's functionally identical to Object.
3) Go download some custom HashMap/HashTable implementation from the web.
I've used a lot of modern languages, and this is the first time I haven't been able to find a library implementation of an associative array within 5 minutes. So I'd like to get some best-practice advice from an experienced flash developer.
Thanks!
Hi - how do I push server alerts to tray apps in java without using xmpp or other heavy protocols?
Do you recommend a way to accomplish this?
I was planning to write an app which uses URLConnection on a server equipped with Comet but I doubt if that would work as the client requires a JS to be invoked and URLConnection is not a browser..
What is the best way to push instead of using a proprietary client-server approach?
Since content of web applications is dynamically generated it would appear that AdSense is not going to produce relevant ads.
Is there a way to increase relevancy of the AdSense ads for the web application?
Is it possible to achieve Gmail-like ad functionality at all for third-party applications?
Is there a better ad provider for web apps than Google?
Article here discusses tactics used by political campaigns.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/14/us/politics/campaigns-mine-personal-lives-to-get-out-vote.html
The part in question is quoted:
The campaigns have planted software known as cookies on voters’
computers to see if they frequent evangelical or erotic Web sites for
clues to their moral perspectives. Voters who visit religious Web
sites might be greeted with religion-friendly messages when they
return to mittromney.com or barackobama.com.
How is that possible? I thought all modern browsers have same origin policy security where website A doesn't have access to any information about other website B, website C, etc.
The article makes it sound like a user browses:
1. presidentialcandidate.com
2. website2.com
3. website3.com
4. website4.com
5. presidentialcandidate.com
How can a cookie from visit #1 know track user history and be revealed in visit #5?
Is there a list of the differences between the various versions of Rails somewhere on the web?
I'm working through an older book about Rails that uses Rails 1.2. I know there are other ways to learn Rails these days, but I thought it would be interesting to try and convert all of the exercises in the book to a more modern versions of Rails (I'm currently working with 2.3.5).
A comprehensive list of differences between the various releases would be very helpful. Note that I don't consider the git log a good source of information, as commit messages almost never tell the full story.
Hi There,
Is it possible to launch a mp3 or wmv file using windows media player at a specified time offset?
e.g I watched 10 seconds of video and closed it. the next time my app launches the video it starts playing a timeline of 10 seconds.
The videos and mp3s are being launched in windows mobile 5 and 6 apps.
I have developed some C++ apps on my Ubuntu desktop. I want to create installation packages so that I can install them on a Ubuntu server.
Can anyone provide guidelines on how to create an Ubuntu server package?
Has anybody used the ATK Framework? It is claimed to be geared toward developing apps for business use. Manipulating data, knowledge bases, etc... This is what I primarily develop (on the side-for my own use). The site hasn't given me a great overview of why it may be better than other frameworks.
What are your thoughts / experiences with this product?
Hi,
I'm looking at jumping on the band-wagon and knock out a couple iPhone and Android apps.
I'm not a complete beginner as I have programmed in quite a few languages, with my current focus on PHP and Drupal development, but I have not developed for either the iPhone or Android before.
I have downloaded the respective SDKs, but I was hoping to find some good quality tutorials that with step-by-step guides getting your development environment up and building your first app.
Hello,
I'm an Android developer and when my apps summon the keyboard, choosing an option in the autocompletion menu inserts the chosen word but not a space after it. Is there a way to make a space appear automatically I trigger autocompletion?
Thank you in advance.
I constantly find myself creating sites using newer technologies (such as HTML 5 and CSS 3, then adding either backwards compatibility layers or porting entirely to XHTML 1.0 and CSS 2.1. This process often involves replacing CSS with sprite images and adding in flash components for advanced asynchronous support.
My question is when can I can start to use the modern standards exclusively. Do I need to wait until Internet Explorer 9 is released or is it acceptable to request users switch to a "better" browser? Furthermore, if dropping compatibility for non HTML 5 browsers is an option, is it reasonable to ask mainstream users to install the Google Frame Frame?
Thanks.
I am applying for a job as java developer. I programmed some hobby apps in java until 2001, after that I have mostly worked in c++ and other languages. Meanwhile, it feels like java has grown a lot, and there are all kinds of acronyms (EJB, spring, etc) unknown to me.
Where can I find a concise, clear explanation of the recent (5 years) development of java? What are key elements to understand?
