  • Collaborative coding chat options

    Hi guys : Are there any established online sites for collaborative coding ? I have a github project with 5 developers, in different areas - we need somewhere that we can all "hangout" at. Right now we use group skype, but skype is designed more for family/social communication , and doesn't work on linux. IRC is okay, but its a little difficult to use for novices. an interface like yammer, twitter, facebook would be ideal, but also, we would want it to be real time (not requiring page reloads etc...)

    Currently, I am through a very creative phase as a developer and I think it's a good time to contribute to an open source project. Not as "permanent" developer to a project but in a "help wanted" manner in many projects. The only open source hosting services that I know of are SourceForge and CodePlex. Any suggestions that will help me on this direction? Like other sites that support this. Thanks in advance.

Which server-side language will be most suitable for our purpose? We could target the following audience: - Personal sites. - Serious small-medium companies (to sell prducts such as Help-Desks, Forms,etc.) - Restaurants (to sell online order web applications). We would like to - attract as many customers as possible. - provide updates for our prodcuts (for our customers). - make our products easy to use. There are number of open-source frameworks and languages that has potential to handle our business problems (like Django, Python, Java, etc..)   • Most Useful New Technology?

    I'm looking to take a sort of sabbatical, and I'd love to use it to learn a new technology. My question is this: What's the most useful "new" technology for a software engineer to use? Node.js, iOS programming, Android, something else? I'd prefer to stay away from anything too new or experimental, since those are, in my experience, rarely actually used in professional production environments (for better or worse). Does anyone happen to have stats on how many jobs there are for each new technology or have anecdotes about how fun each one is? I've been using python/Django, so that's out, and it's similar to Ruby so i don't think learning Ruby would be that useful to expanding my skills. Anyone have any other ideas?
