  • Get application icon from ProcessSerialNumber

    - by Thomi
I would like to get the application icon for all foreground applications running on my Mac. I'm already iterating over all applications using the Process Manager API. I have determined that any process that does not have the modeBackgroundOnly flag set in the processMode (as retrieved from GetProcessInformation()) is a "foreground" application, and shows up in the task switcher window. All I need is an API that gives me a CImageRef (or similar) that contains the application icon for a process. I'm free to use either carbon or cocoa APIs.

  • Websphere Java application startup

    - by Tom Barnett
I have two Java applications running on a Websphere application server. The first application is COTS software (Plateau) I will call App1 and includes an API which can be used in custom applications to interact with App1. This app takes a couple minutes to start in Websphere. The second application is custom software I will call App2 and is deployed as a web service which utilizes the App1 API to interact with App1; so it is dependent on App1. This app takes just seconds to start in Websphere. I run into a problem in certain App1 functionality when we bounce Websphere and the App2 web service is called by a client before the App1 application has fully started. Is there a way I can delay App2 from starting until App1 is fully started in Websphere? Is there a way to design App2 to programmatically check that App1 is available before it attempts to use the API?

  • How to run a .exe with dll in different location

    - by queandans
I am working in C# and implementing Plugin Management feature to our application. I look through dll and exe to load up plugins that are in a specific folder say Plugins. These plugin applications have their own folder when they are installed and I will copy over the plugin application exe/dll to the Plugins folder. However, there are some plugin applications that requires other dlls to run, but I want to minimize the duplication. Is there a way that I can just copy over the .exe to the Plugins folder and have the other dependent dll files locate in other folder? How would I load the the plugin in c# if the .exe and .dll is not in the same location? Thanks.

  • Changing The Underlying Background Color Of A Swing Window

    - by dimo414
As discussed here, when resizing a Swing application in Vista (and Windows 7, which is what I'm using) you get a black background in the right/bottom corner while Swing's repaint catches up to the changes. Playing with other applications (Windows Explorer (Native), Firefox (C++?), and Eclipse (Java)) I notice that they all have this same problem - contrary to what the folks in the link above say - but they minimize the problem by having a grey fill color, which is far less visually jarring than the black that appears in Swing. I'm wondering if there's some way to change this so that Swing behaves like these other applications? I tried setting the background color of the JFrame, but to no avail.

  • Dreamweaver creating temp php files instead of working direct from the local test server files

    - by Dan382
Trying to get MAMP running with Dreamweaver. When I preview a php file inside Dreamweavers 'Live View' mode instead of working direct from my file: http://localhost/php_test/timetest.php it creates its own temp file which looks like: http:// 127.0.0.1/php_test/ TMPWY5ZEM.php (I've added the additional spaces as stockoverflow assumed I was spamming) I know the localhost runs correctly as if I type the URL directly into a browser it runs fine. I've set up the Dreamweaver site correctly to the best of my knowledge, the details are below: Local site folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Server Folder: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test Web URL: http://localhost/php_test/ Testing Server: PHP MySQL Any help?

  • GF 3.0.1 + Virtual Server: www.myhost.com:8080/projectname-war => www.myhost.com. How?

    - by Harry Pham
EDIT I need to change www.myhost.com:8080/myproject-war to www.myhost.com. Here is what I've been trying: I configurate the Virtual Server: server. I have still have default Network Listeners to be http-listener-1 and http-listner-2. I change the Default Web Module to ScholarActive#ScholarActive-war.war (The only option in the drop down list, since I only deploy 1 application). For the docroot, I try this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ScholarActive-war_war or this ${com.sun.aas.instanceRoot}/applications/ScholarActive/ Both does not work. What does docroot need to point to, for this to work? what I try to do is: when I type localhost:8080/ScholarActive-war, then my application load, I want to make so that if I type locahost:8080, it will load the app as well, then what left is changed the port to 80. But no luck. Any Idea?

  • User reactions to WYSIWYM

    - by David
I am trying to decide between a WYSIWYG editor (e.g. TinyMCE, CKEditor) and a WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean) editor (e.g. WMD) for my web application. There is a thread on stackoverflow that compares the two approaches. I would like to know how users, particularly computer novices, have reacted to WYSIWYM editors in deployed web applications. It could be that computer novices are confused by WYSIWYM editors, preferring the immediacy of WYSIWYG; but is that born out in real-world applications? It's not theory I'm asking about here, but empirical evidence of the acceptance or otherwise of WYSIWYM.

  • Local sites not displaying in VirtualBox when using Django's local development server?

    - by littlejim84
Hello. I develop web applications using Django on Mac OSX 10.6. I use Django's built in local development server which I run on my computer's IP (such as: http://192.168.0.11:8001/). I test my applications in Firefox, Safari and Chrome and all display fine. I use Sun's VirtualBox with 3 different instances of Windows XP that have IE6, IE7 and IE8 on them. For whatever reason, these sometimes just don't display the Django sites. They come up with 'The page cannot be displayed'. Eight times out of ten, they display fine and function normally but for no reason at all they won't display. Sometimes restarting Django's local development server from the Terminal will fix the problem, sometimes it won't. Is there some sort of VirtualBox settings or Django settings that I need to set to ensure smooth operation of this? Am I overlooking something? Has anyone else had these problems?

  • Best method to cleanly shut down an application launched via another.

    - by JYelton
I couldn't find any close answers to this, so I'm consulting the experience of SO users: Scenario: I have two small C# winforms applications where one behaves as a server or host, the other as a client. They share data via SQL Server, in terms of configuration settings. I am currently launching the client application (which only needs to run periodically) from the server application via Process.Start() and terminating it via Process.CloseMainWindow() (after finding it in the process list). While it seems clean enough, I wondered if there's a better way. Question: Which way would be best to instruct the client application to shut down: Continue using Process.CloseMainWindow()? Implement WCF between the applications? (I would need help on how to do this.) Set a variable in SQL that the client application checks for? Some other way?

  • Is there any software made by microsoft using .NET?

    - by SnOrfus
I've been reading some blogs and articles lately and one thing I noticed a couple of times was authors stating that Microsoft 'doesn't use their own technologies' with respect to developing applications using the .NET framework (specifically, desktop applications). There's not a whole lot of information that I can see as to what platforms their products are developed with. I had heard that Media Center has some .NET code, but not 100%, likewise with SQL Server Management Studio. So the question I ask is, does anyone know of any software, made by Microsoft that is 100% .NET code?

  • Can someone please explain to me the basic function of Intents in the Android OS?

    - by K-RAN
I'm new to programming applications for the Android OS. As far as general architecture of the OS goes, I understand that processes are implemented as Linux processes and that each one is sandboxed. However, I'm utterly confused on the IPCs and syscalls (if any) used. I know that the IBinder is a form of this; parcels are sent back and forth between processes and Bundles are array forms of parcels (?). But even that is still unfamiliar to me. Same with Intents. All in all, I don't understand what kinds of IPCs are implemented and how. Could someone briefly explain to me the specific methods used by user level applications in Android OS to communicate with each other and the OS? I've done kernel programming and played with various IPCs in Linux (Ubuntu and Debian) so it would help immensely if this was all explained in relation to what I'm familiar with... Thanks in advance!

  • For what purpose does java have a float primitive type?

    - by Roman
I heard plenty times different claims about float type in java. The most popular issues typicaly regard to converting float value to double and vice versa. I read (rather long time ago and not sure that it's actual now with new JVM) that float gives much worse performance then double. And it's also not recommended to use float in scientific applications which should have certain accuracy. I also remember that when I worked with AWT and Swing I had some problems with using float or double (like using Point2D.Float or Point2D.Double). So, I see only 2 advantages of float over double: it needs only 4 bytes while double needs 8 bytes JMM garantees that assignment operation is atomic with float variables while it's not atomic with double's. Are there any other cases where float is better then double? Do you use float's in your applications? It seems to me that the only valuable reason java has float is backward compatibility.

  • Grouping DLL's for use in Executable

    - by Peter Turner
Is there a way to group a bunch of DLL's and still use them at run time (not zipped up). Sorry this question sounds terse and stupid, but I'm not sure what more to ask. I'll explain the situation though: We've had two standalone Windows Applications and now one of our Applications has swelled to such ungainly proportions that the other application cannot run outside of the scope of the first app. We want to maintain some of the encapsulation we had while letting the smaller program in on some of the bigger program's features. There is no problem in running the application, other than we don't want to send out all the 20-30 DLL's that the smaller project has.

  • Facing problem in VB6.0 Activex Controls design.

    - by Dharmaraju
Hi, This is dharmaraju, I am facing some problem in Activex Controls design. Kindly help me to resolve the issue. Problem Description: I have created a property mentioned below for a textbox. Public Property Let DataControl_Value(ByVal Value As Variant) Public Property Get DataControl_Value() As Variant This property is editable at design time if i use it VB6.0 Applications. Same thing is read only in case if i use it in vc++ MFC applications. I have defined one more property like below. Public Property Let DataControl_DataItemDef(ByVal Value As DTMDATACONTROLLib.IXMLDOMNode) Public Property Get DataControl_DataItemDef() As DTMDATACONTROLLib.IXMLDOMNode In this case the "DataControl_DataItemDef" property will not be available at design time.[not displaying in control's property window.] Kindly help me to resolve the issue.

  • Validating Internationalized URLs - Is this going to be a problem?

    - by VirtuosiMedia
After reading about the new Arabic URLs, and with more languages to come, how should URL validation be done for internationalized applications? Does the validation change at all and will existing solutions break? Is regex still a good approach? If so, what would that regex look like? If not, what's a good strategy? What are some good resources to read more on the topic? I ask this because it has the potential to cause a good many localized applications to have to be rewritten if they have to validate URLs at any point.

  • Call REST service while impersonating a user that is already authorized to the glasfish server

    - by user1894489
There are two web-applications deployed on a glassfish server. Both web applications provide a REST web service. the access to both web-services is secured via glassfish security constraints (at the moment BASIC Auth and file-realm). Let's say a user is accessing the service of web application A. After he is authorized, service A wants to call service B via REST client. Is there a way for a service to impersonate a user that is already authorized to the glasfish server? Maybe something like forwarding the security context or editing the headers? Is there another Filter? @Context private SecurityContext securityContext; username = securityContext.getUserPrincipal().getName(); password = ??? client.addFilter(new com.sun.jersey.api.client.filter.HTTPBasicAuthFilter(username, password)); Thanks!

  • Problem with an application on USB, a tricky one

    - by rajivpradeep
I have this application on USB built in VS 2008, on win7 , the USb has two partitions one hidden and other normal one, when i run the application on normal part , it has to swap the part to hidden and run the applications present in hidden part. When i run the application in normal part from USB , the memory swaps but the applications in hidden part are not run. but i can see the application running in Task manager. when i copy the application and run it from the desktop, the application works seamlessly, without any glitch. I guess some thing is holding the application process when run from USB, i cannot safe eject the USB too. CAn some one give me a clue as to what can be done to resolve. Also the application works well on Windows 7 as expected. The problem is on XP

  • Listing like appstore in firefox or any other browser for windows/desktop linux

    - by jenso
A little question about the listing in iPhone OS and some other applications, and possibly in Android Market. When listing the apps, it fills the list in an automatic process, when reaching or is near to reach the end. My question is: How is that written in iPhone applications. But the main question is: Is that possible to make for Firefox users with Javascript, Ajax or possibly any other language? Been looking a little bit in documentation but havent found anything useful, maybe I just havent looked enough edit: Found it for Android - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1917773/dynamic-listview-in-android-app Still looking for same futures for a Windows browser tho out

  • What is ExtJS philosophy? Single page application?

    - by stach
I need to write my next project using ExtJs. It's a nice Javascript lib but I don't fully understand the idea behind it. Take the docs page for example: http://www.extjs.com/deploy/dev/docs/ Am I supposed to write my web applications with extjs like that? One page that should never be refreshed, and everything getting done by AJAX? How do you debug such applications if getting to the right place may take a lot of 'clicking' and working with it. You cannot fix the bug and hit refresh in the browser to see the results. Any suggestions?

  • Work flow for authentication and API use with Twitter on OAuth

    - by Gustavo Carreno
I'm a bit confused about all this OAuth bruhaha in the sense that all the examples I can find are for web applications and none of them for desktop applications. I understand the Web application work flow, but that includes some redirections between the web app and twitter. How does one do this in an desktop application? How does the redirects work? Should I have to include a Web Browser object? Is there a way to go around this? Could anyone point me to resources instead of a full blown solution please? Thanks

  • Platform Framework and Middle-ware

    - by Walidix
I really want to fix the meanings of this terms. This is what I know about them: Platform: is an environment that allows an application to run and it is usually composite by hardware and software e.g. your machine with your OS installed on it. However some software stack are also called as platform like Java Platform. Framework: is design-oriented. That is, it defines a skeleton of an application type. Also it saves time by offering, through an API, the common functionalities that a kind of applications must implement. Moreover a Framework include a software components that manage the application life-cycle. Middle-ware: is a software that offers services to an application in order to let it inter-operates with other applications or supports different platforms. Middle-ware can be a part of a framework. Is there something wrong or missing ?

  • OS X Dock API? Retrieve OS X active application's icon with badges and other modifications.

    - by pokstad
Is there an API for retrieving the icons of the currently open apps on Mac OS X? I am trying to retrieve all the icons of the active applications along with any badges on top of the application (i.e. number of new messages in mail, or current download rate in Transmission). Is there some sort of Dock API? The only mention of an OSX API for retrieving information about currently active applications I have been able to find is the Process Manager API, which does not mention the ability to poll the dock or retrieve icon data.

  • What are "web services"?

    - by Kevin
I'm reading a book about programming ASP.NET in C#. The book makes the following comment: Previous editions of this book tackled web services, a feature that allows you to create code routines that can be called by other applications over the Internet.Web services are more interesting when considering rich client development (because they allow you to give web features to ordinary desktop applications),and they’re in the process of being replaced by a new technology known as WCF (Windows Communication Foundation). For those reasons, web services aren’t covered in this book. However,if you want to branch out and explore the web service world, you can download the web service chapters from the previous edition of this book from the book’s download page. The information in these chapters still applies to ASP.NET 3.5,because the web service feature hasn’t changed. Can someone offer, in "layman's terms" what exactly a web service is and if, indeed, they are being replaced, at least in .Net, with WCF? What would be a practical example of a web service? Are they stand alone programs that run on a web server and are invoked by a client or clients?
