Is there some really working implementations of the expertise location systems exist? It is very hard to find anything about it. What sources to use, what to read, where to look? I've started with reading David W. McDonald's, Mark S. Ackerman's overview "Just talk to me" and now need just something more detailed.
For those, who voting this question to be closed for off-topic: it is connected to IT sphere, if you don't know what it is - why ever vote?

We have a win 7 home prem pc, amd cpu, 8G ram, plenty of free disk space. Whenever user is working in publisher 20003, and tries to save a publisher 2003 document to the desktop, the save as dialog hangs and takes 2-3 minutes to display the desktop save location. I've tested excel 2003, it has no problems immediately displaying the desktop save as location and saving the file.
I'm setting up a replacement server for one that was working ok but is having hardware issues. The original server is i686 (Pentium III), but the new one is amd64 (Xeon). Everything is working fine, except one of the three domUs is giving me the "clocksource/0: Time went backwards" error. The Debian Wiki says what to do if all your domUs are getting this error, but not what to do if only one of them has.
The "tenants" on my domUs have done some messing about with the systems I configured for them. I don't know what the user of that particular domU might have done.
Well, for the project I envisioned I have MY software and want to attach 4 webcams to the PC. I dug deep down into development only to find out that...
Windows won't work with more than 2 webcams?!
Is there a way around that problem?
Information about my configuration:
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Relevant applications running in x86 mode
Canyon or Prestigion 2Mpix web cam (running in 640x480 resolution at 30 FPS)
Hi All,
I can't sync my phone with my PC, this is the error:
The following appointments failed to synchronize from the device...
I looked for this appointment but I can't find it.
How can I solve this issue?
I just discovered that an old MediaWiki of mine was infested with spam, and the database table named "text" (which contains the page content) is 3GB large. I've deleted all the spam pages manually, but:
The table is still the same size.
I wonder how it got to 3GB anyway. There wasn't that much spam (about a hundred medium-sized pages)
How can I get rid of this mess?
If you want to inspect the wiki, it's over here. The database is MySQL 5.0.75.
I don't care if it's not free; I switched from PC to Mac recently and I kind of miss Hypercam to record our best moments in games (Halo, Combat Arms, Starcraft, etc) and showing hacks.
I tried to use Crossover Pro 8 and 9 and it hasn't worked. If anyone has a solution, let me know. Thanks!
I have a problem with restarting my PC, it happend couple days ago, and now restart works same as shutdown, even when I tried to make my own shortcut(Shutdown.exe -r -t 00), it just shutdowns.
Any idea how to fix that ?
Hello,
When I set up my XBox 360 as a Windows Media Extender although I can see all the media I have on my Windows Vista PC it is excruciatingly slow to move between albums etc
Is there anything I can do to improve this or is it just because of the number of media files I have - about 5GB?
Cheers
I recently got a wireless PC controller, and now I enjoy games playing from my bed. However, I find it hard to correctly place my laptop so it's comfortable, and it would be great if there was a way to view my screen through my iPad, with minimal lag; so I could simply leave my laptop behind me or on the desk and view the game from the iPad.
Is this feasible/realistic?
Additional info:
Both the iPad and the laptop are on the same WiFi network
I have my work system on the ip range 172.16.xx.yy, and I have my personal system on the ip range 10.0.xx.yy. Both of them, however, are on the same network of my University, but on different LANs/VLANs (i hope i used the right word here).
How can I remotely connect to my work system from my PC, given that both use private IP addresses?
If such a thing is not possible with current set up, what minimal changes are required for it?
my PC is connected to 3 different networks: 2 different LAN connections and a VPN connection.
when i am connected to the vpn, i cannot browse to the LAN intranet as the DNS is all going through the vpn and it cannot see the domains on the LAN.
Is there a way to set firefox/chrome/etc to use a specific connection, so that i don't have to disconnect from vpn to get to the other intranets?
I am trying to ping one of my local host and checking CPU process to see how "Ping of death" attack behaves. I tried to ping my other PC which is in local network with 192.168.44.2 IP Address. I tried this,
ping -l 5000 192.168.44.2
and I got error like this,
ping: -l flag: Operation not permitted
I am on MacOSX Lion. How can I remove this flag so machine can let me ping with preload?
Thanks for any direction!

What are the new shortcuts for Windows 8?
There are lots of new UI elements in Windows 8 such as the 'Charms Bar' and the fact that the Desktop is treated as an app.
Some elements are easier than others to access on a non-touch screen enabled device such as a standard desktop PC or laptop equipped with a keyboard and mouse.
What are some useful shortcut keys that utilise the Windows Key (Win) to make using Windows 8 easier via a keyboard and mouse?
Hi guys,
i want to install ubuntu 9.10 on a pc which has already installed Windows 7.
I have set up an unformatted primary partition with gparted and ubuntu live:
During the installation i choose language (i'm italian), time and keyboard, and then it shows me the "prepare partition" window, with no partitions at all and all greyed out!
Do you have any hints?
Hello everyone. I have a slow computer. When I click on an icon say Firefox it can take 10 seconds to load. when I minimize and maximize windows you can see it happening. I get "ghost" screens where you see the window outline of the box but nothing in it or it may be white.
The laptop is two years old and has these specs:
Intel core two duo 2.8GHZ CPU
4GB RAM
500GB HDD
512MB Nvidia 8600GT video
Realtek HD audio
What is going on and where should I start looking for issues? Ubuntu 10.10 was upgraded from 10.04LTS following the instructions from the Ubuntu Wiki and it was done through the update manager GUI, not the CLI. Thanks for the help.

I have a 150gb local disk on my Windows 7 x64 ultimate computer,
i recently bought another 150gb hard drive and wish to merge/combine the 2 together to form 1 300gb hard drive.
Is this possible to do without losing all the data on it?
And i have thought about SATA but was curious if there was a faster easier option before i go ahead and take my pc apart
Somebody was using my Windows 7 and she hibernated it instead of shutting down. Later, I booted up Ubuntu and moved about 2GB worth of files from the Ubuntu partition to the Windows partition.
After booting up Windows (from hibernation), I couldn't find any of the files. Then I restarted the PC, and the files showed for a second or two and then disappeared.
Did Windows delete all the files I put on it while it was hibernating?
A friend of mine says that a site I frequent was reported by his antivirus software to be infected with a trojan. I can't confirm this because I'm on a Mac, and he's running PC so nothing happens on my end.
I'm wondering if there's a web site that I could use to check the site for infection or malicious script.
I have bunch of Chinese .wav files on my hard disk that I'm trying to convert into .mp3 with Audacity but it appear that Audacity can not read Chinese character songs but the .wav file display correctly on my 32 bits Win7 Ultimate(English) pc.
I have to rename these Chinese character songs into English file name in order to convert them.
Does anyone know if there is any software (prefer open source) that will take Chinese character file name(.wav) and convert it into .mp3 without renaming the file?
I am choosing a wireless headset for my PC (I hate cables) and am looking at Sennheiser RS 170 / 180. They supposedly sound great, however, there is a 25ms audio latency. I've heard that this is OK when watching TV or listening musing but is bad for games.
The question is - has there been any research / hard data that would show how much of a delay is noticeable by human brain? 25ms doesn't sound like a lot but I may be wrong.
