  • Can EPD Python and MacPorts Python coexist on OS X (matplotlib)?

    - by bjoern
I've been using MacPorts Python 2.6 on OS X 10.6. I am considering also installing the Enthought Python Distribution (EPD) on the same machine because it comes preconfigured with matplotlib and other nice data analysis and visualization packages. Can the two Python distributions co-exist peacefully on the same machine? What potential problems will I have to look out for (e.g., environment variables)? I know that building matplotlib through MacPorts is an option, but the process is lengthy (on the order of a full day) and there are open questions about compiling some dependencies on 64bit Intel. I would like to know about the tradeoffs before committing to one of the two approaches.

  • Check if iOS app is live in app store

    - by MSK
Is it possible somehow to code like below in iOS app ? if(app is live in app store) { //Do something } else { //Do other thing } I wanted to avoid cases where our QE/Dev team is using app for testing. Is there a way I can detect how app code is signed (Developer/Adhoc/Distribution) to check ? Even if it is possible, it will not eliminate cases when Apple is using our app for testing as part of review. We recorded many downloads of our content by Apple before our app goes live in App store.

  • Memory randomization as application security enhancement?

    - by Paul Sasik
I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?

  • delete the 'target' directory after build

    - by pstanton
hi, i know this is probably frowned upon by maven lovers, but the whole 'target' directory is a waste of space in the context of our program and it's deployment. we have other build processes responsible for creating the actual deployment and i currently manually delete the target dir after every maven build, so that its contents don't interfere with my file searches etc... is there a way to delete this dir automatically at the end of a maven build/install? thanks, p.

  • C++Math evaluating incorrectly

    - by Hayden
I thought I can make life a little easier in data statistics by making a small program which returns the results of sampling distribution of the mean (with standard error). It does this part successfully but in an attempt to return the z-score by using the formula I found here, it returns -1#IND. My interpretation of that formula is: ((1/(sqrt(2*pi)*stdev))*pow(e, (normalpow)) where double normalpow=-0.5*((mean-popmean)*(mean-popmean)/stdev) I did a little more investigating and found that (mean-popmean)*(mean-popmean) was evaluating to 0 no matter what. How can I get around this problem of normalpow evaluating to 0.

  • Integrating Incoming Email Into a php/mysql App

    - by phirschybar
I am looking to create an incoming email daemon switchboard that I can integrate with various remote php/mysql apps. Ideally I want to check the 'to' address to see if it is in a mysql database and if it is, have the email parsed and posted via CURL to a target destination as well as have attachments saved somewhere locally. I will likely set up a rackspace cloud server dedicated to this task (just accepting emails and posting to 3rd party APIs). However, I do not know where to start. Which server platform / distribution should I go with? Which software needs to be customized, etc?

  • fetching from a specified index in a set using python

    - by tipu
I'm using pagination on a values from a set. So what this results in is me needing to get values from x to x + 20 which can be in the middle of a set with 50,000 entries. Is it possible that I can fetch these values by grabbing by the space in the set? Would it make more sense to do result = [] my_dict = dict(very_big_set) for i in range(30000, 30020) result.append(my_dict[i])

  • Parsing CSV: how can NSScanner recognize empty field (i.e. ,,)?

    - by Fabrizio Prosperi
    I am very new to Xcode and trying - as millions - to parse a CSV file. I have read many contributions and I am managing it but I have a problem when my NSScanner intercepts an empty field: "Field_A, Field_B,, Field_D". I guess it is because it ignores empty space by default, or in this case no space at all. String is: "Personal","2011-01-01","Personal","Cigarettes",,4.60,"Cash","", I tried to debug it using scanLocation: 2011-04-22 15:57:32.414 Spending[42015:a0f] Before while...scan location is:0 2011-04-22 15:57:32.414 Spending[42015:a0f] Account: "Personal" - scan location is:10 2011-04-22 15:57:32.415 Spending[42015:a0f] Date: "2011-01-01" - scan location is:23 2011-04-22 15:57:32.415 Spending[42015:a0f] Category: "Personal" - scan location is:34 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Subcategory: "Cigarettes" - scan location is:47 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Income: 4.600000 - scan location is:53 2011-04-22 15:57:32.416 Spending[42015:a0f] Expense: 0.000000 - scan location is:53 2011-04-22 15:57:32.417 Spending[42015:a0f] Payment: "Cash" - scan location is:60 2011-04-22 15:57:32.417 Spending[42015:a0f] Note: "" - scan location is:63 And as you can see after that even expense field gets no value (should be 4.60). Here is the relevant piece of code: NSScanner *scanner = [NSScanner scannerWithString:fileString]; [scanner setCharactersToBeSkipped: [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@"\n, "]]; NSString *account, *date, *category, *subcategory, *payment, *note; float income, expense; // Set up data delimiter using comma NSCharacterSet *commaSet; commaSet = [NSCharacterSet characterSetWithCharactersInString:@","]; NSLog (@"Before while...scan location is:%d\n", scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&account]; NSLog(@"Account: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",account, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&date]; NSLog(@"Date: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",date, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&category]; NSLog(@"Category: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",category, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&subcategory]; NSLog(@"Subcategory: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",subcategory, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanFloat:&income]; NSLog(@"Income: %f - scan location is:%d\n",income, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanFloat:&expense]; NSLog(@"Expense: %f - scan location is:%d\n",expense, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&payment]; NSLog(@"Payment: %@ - scan location is:%d\n",payment, scanner.scanLocation); [scanner scanUpToCharactersFromSet:commaSet intoString:&note]; NSLog(@"Note: %@\n - scan location is:%d",note, scanner.scanLocation); I tried looking carefully through NSScanner Class Reference, but could not get an idea? Do you have any? Thanks, Fabrizio.

  • Cutomizing dired

    - by Arthur Debert
I just came across this dired mode screen at Wikipedia. I am looking into those customizations. Regarding colors, I guess just specifying the correct faces will do, but how do I get dired to show file sized in kbytes by default? And the available space in MBs (top line)?

  • How do you return stolen packets back to Netfilter

    - by meg18019
Let's say I have intercepted a packet from Netfilter and subsequently returned NF_STOLEN. At some point I want to re-inject that packet back to, in this case, the TCP stream it came from. I want to do this from Kernel space. So far I have been unable to find a way to do this. Thanks for the help.

  • Using jQuery To Get Size of Viewport

    - by Volomike
How do I use jQuery to determine the size of the browser viewport, and to redetect this if the page is resized? I need to make an IFRAME size into this space (coming in a little on each margin). For those who don't know, the browser viewport is not the size of the document/page. It is the visible size of your window before the scroll.

  • What is an efficient way to find a non-colliding rectangle nearest to a location

    - by hyn
For a 2D game I am working on, I am using y axis sorting in a simple rectangle-based collision detection. This is working fine, and now I want to find the nearest empty rectangle at a given location with a given size, efficiently. How can I do this? Is there an algorithm? I could think of a simple brute force grid test (with each grid the size of the empty space we're looking for) but obviously this is slow and not even a complete test.

I'm of the mind that i'm not allocating the right memory space... any helpful insight would be great...
