• What problem does NHibernate solve?

  I've seen some jobs that require nhibernate knowledge, as well as numerous questions on stack. I found another question that pointed me to Summer Of NHibernate and I am watching the videos now. However it has no introduction explaining why NHibernate was created and what problem is solves. By looking on wikipedia, I can see vaguely what it does, but to me it looks like .NET already has the entity framework which seems to do the same thing. Can anyone clarify why nhibernate exists?

• Is there way to determine if a file has been executed or not in C#?

  I'm looking for a way to determine if a file has been executed or not. I've looked a bit into FileInfo's LastAccessTime but this doesn't seem to change when a file is executed. I've also looked into FileSystemWatcher but this also doesn't seem to offer a solution. Is there such a thing as a file execution listener or is there another way? If it helps, i'm looking to write a folder listener that renames an .avi file within it after it has been watched/executed.

  I've found this in the CGPath.h header file. I'm curious what this const thing does? typedef struct CGPath *CGMutablePathRef; typedef const struct CGPath *CGPathRef; My guess: If I typedef something as const, it's constant so immutable and can't be changed in any way. Does that make sense?

• How do I get the Virtual Machines folder on Win7?

  I'm writing a tool called XP-More, which should help manage Windows 7 Virtual Machines. The first thing the tool has to do when launched is find the VM folder. However, turns out that folder is not listed as a Windows Special Folder. I use a workaround, but it's unreliable. Ideally, Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.VMFolder) or so would have done the job, but VMFolder is a fiction of my imagination. Is there any real way to get that folder?

  I wonder whether there's a way to program a resource DLL for Windows Clusters in Delphi. I want to write a program that observes cluster state changes. Judging from the MSDN API reference, all relevant functions are located in the ClusAPI.h and ResAPI.h headers, but unfortunately it seems as if they haven't been ported yet and HeaderConv seems to fail on them. • Does "opening a file" mean loading it completely into memory?

  There's an AudioFileOpenURL function which opens an file. With AudioFileReadPackets that file is accessed to read packets. But one thing that stucks in my brain is: Does AudioFileOpenURL actually load the whole monster into memory? Or is that a lightweight operation? So is it possible to read data from a file, only a specific portion, without having the whole terabytes of stuff in memory?
