  • What server side technologies does uefa.com use?

    - by olst
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone knows in what technology/web platform the uefa.com website was built. Its page suffix is ".html", but I don't see how it could be built with just html, since it probably has a lot of dynamic content... Anyway, it's a great website with fast loading pages and nice design. Does anyone know who built it ? ... thanks ...

  • Powder Physics Games

    - by frinkz
Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? I'm talking about applets like this http://dan-ball.jp/en/javagame/dust/ I'm really interested in how they work, it seems more like fluid-dynamics than regular game physics. Does anyone know any open source variations, or any hints on how they might work? I think it would be really fun and challenging to work on something like this, but I'm not sure where to start researching... Thanks :)

  • White Screen of Death (WSOD) in Browser

    - by nickyt
Here's the specs: ASP.NET 3.5 using ASP.NET AJAX AJAX Control Toolkit jQuery 1.3.2 web services IIS6 on Windows Server 2003 SP1 SP1 SQLServer 2005 SP3 Site is SSL Here's the problem: I'm getting the White Screen of Death (WSOD) in pretty much any browser (at least FireFox and IE 7/8). We have an application that uses one popup window for updating records. Most of the time when you click on the [Edit] button to edit a record, the popup window opens and loads the update page. However, after editing records for a while, all of a sudden the popup window will open, but it stays blank and just hangs. The URL is in the address bar. Loading up Fiddler I noticed that the request for the update page is never sent which leads me to believe it's some kind of lockup on the client-side. If I copy the same URL that's in the popup window into a new browser window, the page generally loads fine. Observations: - Since the request is never sent to the server, it's definitely something client-side - Only appears to happen when there is some semblance of traffic on the site which is weird because this appears to be contained within client-side code - There is a web service being called in the background every few seconds checking if the user is logged on, but this doesn't cause the freeze. I'm really at a loss here. I've googled WSOD but not much seems to appear related to my specific WSOD. Any ideas?

  • Best practice to test a web application, regarding domain name and integration with external service

    - by ycseattle
I have run into these problems several times and was never able to find a comfortable solution. Let's say my website has the domain name MyDomain.com. When I run the tests on the test machine (a continuous integration server), I will modify the HOSTS file on this machine so the MyDomain.com is mapped to this local machine instead of the real production server. This doesn't work very well for many situations. For example, my application will create subdomain names user1.MyDomain.com dynamically but this is difficult to keep the testing flexible. Another problem is my web application will interact with Amazon S3, and sometimes other service like Amazon Simple Message Queue. I am only comfortable to include these interaction in my tests but I am never happy with my solution for mixing testing and production on Amazon services. Could somebody offer some tips on these issues? I would like to make my testing framework clean and flexible. I am sure this is a common question for all web applications and there must be a mature way to deal with these. Thanks!

  • Whats the difference in GET and POST encryption?

    - by Dju
What is the difference when encrypting GET and POST data? Thx for answer Edit: i need to write it more specific. When https-SSL encrypts both of this methods, what is the difference in way browser does this. Which parts are encrypted and which are not? I somewhere read, that the destination url is not encrypted in POST, is that true? If it is true and same in GET, where are all the parameters?

  • Is it a good idea to work on header files only, just at the start of the project?

    - by m4design
To explain my point further, I'm a beginner in programming, and I'm working on a small project. Instead of separating the .cpp file from the header file, I'm implementing the code in the header files, and making one .cpp file for testing. I do this to have less files, hence easier navigation. Then later I'll separate the code as it should be. Will this cause any problems? should I continue doing that? Thanks.

  • Get wrong PATH_INFO after rewriting in lighttpd

    - by Satoru.Logic
In my lighttpd config file, I have a rewrite rule like this: $HTTP["host"] == "sub.example.com" { url.rewrite = ( "^/(.*)" => "/sub/$1" ) } So when a user visits http://sub.example.com, she's actually visiting http://example.com/sub. The problem is that the PATH_INFO seems wrong, URL: http://sub.example.com/extra PATH_INFO: expected: /extra what I get: /sub/extra Now whenever I call request.get_path(), it returns something like http://sub.example.com/sub/extra, which is not what I want. Of course, I can just override the get_path method of the request class, but I wonder if there is a simpler way like changing the lighttpd config?

  • Offline mode app in a (HTML5) browser possible?

    - by Horace Ho
Is it possible to build an application inside in browser? An application means: 1 Where there is connection (online mode) between the browser and an remote application server: the application runs in typical web-based mode the application stores necessary data in offline storage, to be used in offline mode (2) the application sync/push data (captured during offline mode) back to the server when it is resumed from offline mode back to online mode 2 Where there is no connection (offline mode) between the browser and an remote application server: the application will still run (javascript?) the application will present data (which is stored offline) to user the application can accept input from user (and store/append in offline storage) Is this possible? If the answer is a yes, is there any (Ruby/Python/PHP) framework being built? Thanks

  • Is a full html page needed when loading a page with jQuery mobile?

    - by Vincent Hiribarren
I am currently looking at jQuery mobile and its system of loading web pages with XmlHttpRequest. Thanks to that it is possible to automatically perform transition animations between two pages, for instance. However, something is not clear to me. If I understand correctly, each new page of a jQuery mobile powered website is injected in the DOM of the initial web page. The documentation of jQuery mobile even tells that because of this mechanism, the <title> tag of new webpages are not taken into account. So, in a way, if my initial webpage A.html loads a page B.html, I would tend to think that the webpage B.html does not need to have a full HTML grammar with the <html>, <head> or <body> tags. My page B.html could directly begin with a <div> element. Am I right? Is a full html page needed when loading a HTML page with jQuery mobile? What are the pros and cons about having a webpage with a wrong/truncated HTML syntax (appart that this page should not be accessed directly but through the main page)?

  • Code promotion: Enforcing the rules

    - by jbarker7
So here is our problem: We have a small team of developers with their own ways of doing things-- I am trying to formalize a process in which we are required to promote our code in the following order: Local sandbox Dev UAT Staging Live Developers develop/test as they go on their own sandbox, Dev is its own box that we would use for continuous integration, UAT is another site in IIS on the dev box, which uses our dev database. We then promote to staging, which is a site in IIS on the Live box and using live data (just like the live, hence staging). Then, finally, we promote to live. Here are a few of my questions: 1.) Does this seem to be best practice? If not, what needs to be done differently? 2.) How do I enforce the rules to the developers? Often developers skip steps in order to save time... this should not be tolerated and would be great if it could be physically enforced. 3.) How do I enforce these rules to the business group? The business group just wants to get features out FAST. Do we promote only on certain days? Thanks! Josh

  • Tips for documenting a web application?

    - by Pandiya Chendur
I know that I can take my asp.net application and get it reversed to a UML document, but that doesn't tell the whole story of things like who can use what, what it calls in the way of stored procedures, what pages call what pages etc. etc. Does anyone know of an article where someone has a comprehensive way to document a web application/site? Or shall I just make up my own way?

  • Execute javascript in PHP

    - by Andreas Bonini
I'm generating your typical Web 2.0 HTML page with PHP: it contains a lot of <script> tags and javascript code that will substantially change the DOM after the load event. Is there a way to get the final HTML code directly from PHP, without opening the page with any browser? For example, let's say the HTML for the page is (it's just an example): <html> <head> <script>...the jquery library code...</script> <script>$(document).ready(function() { $("body").append("<p>Hi!</p>");</script> </head> <body> </body> </html> This HTML is saved in the $html PHP variable. Now, I want to pass that variable to some function that will return $result = <html>....<body><p>Hi!</p></body></html>. Is this possible?

  • Positioning DIV element at center of screen

    - by iSumitG
I want to position a DIV (or a TABLE) element at the center of screen irrespective of screen size. In other words, the space left on 'top' and 'bottom' should be equal and space left on 'right' and 'left' sides should be equal. How to do it? Note: I prefer a complete CSS solution, but if is not possible without Javascript then using Javascript is also fine. I am trying the following but it is not working: <body> <div style="top:0px; border:1px solid red;"> <table border="1" align="center"> <tr height="100%"> <td height="100%" width="100%" valign="middle" align="center"> We are launching soon! </td> </tr> </table> </div> </body> Note: It is either way fine if the DIV element (or TABLE) scrolls with the website or not. Just want it to be at center when page loads.

  • jQuery ajax form submit - how to ensure dynamically loaded form's action is used

    - by kenny99
    Hi, i'm having a problem with dynamically loaded forms - instead of using the action attribute of the newly loaded form, my jquery code is still using the action attribute of the first form loaded. I have the following code: //generic ajax form handler - calls next page load on success $('input.next:not(#eligibility)').live("click", function(){ $(".form_container form").validationEngine({ ajaxSubmit: true, ajaxSubmitFile: $(this).attr('action'), success : function() { var url = $('input.next').attr('rel'); ajaxFormStage(url); }, failure : function() { } }); }); But when the next form is loaded, the above code does not pick up the new action attribute. I have tried adding the above code to my callback on successful ajax load (shown below), but this doesn't make any difference. Can anyone help? Many thanks function ajaxFormStage(url) { var $data = $('#main_body #content'); $.validationEngine.closePrompt('body'); //close any validation messages $data.fadeOut('fast', function(){ $data.load(url, function(){ $data.animate({ opacity: 'show' }, 'fast'); '); //generic ajax form handler - calls next page load on success $('input.next:not(#eligibility)').live("click", function(){ $(".form_container form").validationEngine({ ajaxSubmit: true, ajaxSubmitFile: $(this).attr('action'), success : function() { var url = $('input.next').attr('rel'); ajaxFormStage(url); }, failure : function() { } }); }); }); });

  • How to build unlimited level of menu through PHP and mysql

    - by Starx
Well, to build my menu my menu I use a db similar structure like this To assign another submenu for existing submenu I simply assign its parent's id as its value of parent field. parent 0 means top menu now there is not problem while creating submenu inside another submenu now this is way I fetch the submenu for the top menu <ul class="topmenu"> <? $list = $obj -> childmenu($parentid); //this list contains the array of submenu under $parendid foreach($list as $menu) { extract($menu); echo '<li><a href="#">'.$name.'</a></li>'; } ?> </ul> What I want to do is. I want to check if a new menu has other child menu and I want to keep on checking until it searches every child menu that is available and I want to display its child menu inside its particular list item like this Home ........

  • What is the benefit of using ONLY OpenID authentication on a site?

    - by Peter
From my experience with OpenID, I see a number of significant downsides: Adds a Single Point of Failure to the site It is not a failure that can be fixed by the site even if detected. If the OpenID provider is down for three days, what recourse does the site have to allow its users to login and access the information they own? Takes a user to another sites content and every time they logon to your site Even if the OpenID provider does not have an error, the user is re-directed to their site to login. The login page has content and links. So there is a chance a user will actually be drawn away from the site to go down the Internet rabbit hole. Why would I want to send my users to another company's website? [ Note: my provider no longer does this and seems to have fixed this problem (for now).] Adds a non-trivial amount of time to the signup To sign up with the site a new user is forced to read a new standard, chose a provider, and signup. Standards are something that the technical people should agree to in order to make a user experience frictionless. They are not something that should be thrust on the users. It is a Phisher's Dream OpenID is incredibly insecure and stealing the person's ID as they log in is trivially easy. [ taken from David Arno's Answer below ] For all of the downside, the one upside is to allow users to have fewer logins on the Internet. If a site has opt-in for OpenID then users who want that feature can use it. What I would like to understand is: What benefit does a site get for making OpenID mandatory?

  • Creating a fixed background for a website

    - by ShiVik
Hello all I am trying to implement a fixed background for a website like one over here. Searching around for it told me that I can use background: fixed or background-attachment properties for this. My problem is the image which will be used as background. I am thinking about following issues: What should be image size? how will it repeat when browser window size is very large? for big 27" monitors out there? Can somebody guide me on these points? Regards Vikram
