• Good introductory statistics book?

  Hello, what is a good introductory statistics book you can recommend? if there is a whole sequence of books that should be read, please do not hesitate to mention it. Books with applications are also welcome. I am aware that a single search on Amazon (or any other book seller) will provide me tons of titles, but some of them are avoidable... About my background/knowledge: good knowledge of mathematics and probability theory, but almost null on statistics.

  I'm contemplating a single SQL trigger to handle INSERT, UPDATE and DELETE operations as part of an auditing process. Is there any statement, function or @@ variable I can interrogate to find out which operation type launched the trigger? I've seen the following pattern: declare @type char(1) if exists (select * from inserted) if exists (select * from deleted) select @Type = 'U' else select @Type = 'I' else select @Type = 'D' but is there anything else a little more direct or explicit?   I have a list a vertices and a list of triangles. I'd like to split this single mesh into, say 5, randomly shaped meshes. When the 5 randomly shaped meshes are in place the sphere should all line up and look like 1 solid mesh. I need a algorithm to do this programmatically, not a tool to do it form me.
