  • Object Events, how do are they implemented

    Events are really awesome, and I wouldn't know what I would do without them, but they're a mystery to me. I'm talking about events in a sense, a function(s) is called if a property, or value, a special event happens. I have only the vaguest idea how these actually work. I know it's an observer pattern, but I don't truly know how it works and/or how to implement it. Can someone explain that to me?

    I was taken aback earlier today when debugging some code to find that something like the following does not throw a compile-time exception: public Test () { HashMap map = (HashMap) getList(); } private List getList(){ return new ArrayList(); } As you can imagine, a ClassCastException is thrown at runtime, but can someone explain why the casting of a List to a HashMap is considered legal at compile time?

    So I have to send a java project to someone outside our company who has no experience with java and they need to compile it. Is there an easy way to do it on the windows command line that does not require writing out lists of the files? Personally I think javac should be smart enough to handle javac * when in the folder just under the root of the package hierarchy. Is there anything in this ballpark?

    When do I execute query COPY TO ... CSV, I create CSV file. BUt when open it column with names in excel that should be with national characters are not as it should be. So my question is, If it is possible within a sql query to change this encoding to utf8? Or something else? Because I want that new created CSV file to be as final product for user on web.     I want to make a website that will have multiple pages, but because of a unique navigation bar, I cannot simply link to a new file for each page. What is the best way to accomplish this. Some possibilities that I can think of are having all of them on one page, but using css and javascript to move the other pages offscreen, or using iframes and loading them with javascript. I also try to query the graph builder for IMediaSeeking and try to set the start and stop positions with no success.Can someone help?

Specifically, when a user types "Shawshank" I would like to see google's suggestions in my drop down. Can someone tell me what are the different ways of doing this?
